Hi!
I need help bypassing the pattern Lock!
Short story:
ordert the phone from amazon. didn't arrive in time. one day after estimated delivery date the parcel lies opend in front of the door. phone with inserted battery is still in it. all the stuff like charging or earphones is missing.
went to police and so on. for the fun of it i started the phone to look if the thief maybe made some photos or sent some messages before "returning" it. problem: he enabled a pattern lock. now i see no possibility to look if he/she maybe did something stupid like writing a message or taking a photo. i want to get that stupid kid (has to be a neighbor) ...
so maybe someone can answer here or write a pm ...
i DO NOT want to do a factory reset. i want to get to the last calls and messages!!!
thx in advance and excuse my bad english
Strange story. I would contact the post office or company that delivered the phone. Not sure what country your from but in my country it's not legal for postal service to just leave a parcel at the doorstep.

alreday went to the post office and the police. amazon didn't send t as a real parcel, more like a letter, therefore it wasnt insured. the posal service didn't leave it in front of the door. it was stolen out of a mailbag and then, a day later, returned to us ... we don't understand it ... we hope amazon will send us a new one, but i want to find out who did that!!!

my thoughts exactly - why should there even have been a sim card in the phone when it's sent from amazon
Who steal packages from the mailbag, take out the cheap stuff and deliver the most expensive piece to the recipient a day later?
I call BS.
ya +2 on tht ?lol leaving the phone an taking the ear phones sounds negative.....well the pattern locks r easy to open try all combination of 3x3x3 its simple , not thoughp like rubiks cube...
our only explanation:
neighbor kid stole it, parents found out, kid 'gave it back' or kid got scared ... no idea ...
it all just sucks ... i would wish to find out who was it to understand that stupid person ...
Sounds to me more like you 'found' someone else's phone and are trying to get into it. But giving you the benefit of the doubt ...
Hold the screen at an angle to a light source and look for a greasy finger streak where the lock pattern has been sketched.
if i would have found it, i think i would have had better stories
tried some of the bypasses i found on the web, seems that most of the security holes are fixed (gj samsung )
Amazon already answered that they send a new one.
Only reason why i want into it, is to find hints who stole it in the first place.
If i would have "found" it i would just make a hard reset.
People give the kid a break come on now, its not funny when UPS,TNT etc get lost on their delivery runs. The driver delivering this package got lost their satnav crashed their mobile fone went dead and you know what, they took their sim card out of their fone and opend this package placed their sim card in this SGS2 just to use the GOOGLE maps just so you could have you fone. Now thats service with a smile lol

lmao. what a funny thread.
To the OP, grab her itemised bill instead and save urself the hasle of trying to bypass the pattern lock. lol
If youre story is genuine on the other hand, just be happy ur getting a replacement. Sell the locked one to me, give you £100 for it.
Try this.
Put another sim in it. Call that number. Answer it. While still in the call press the back or home button. You should now be on the home screen. You should also be able to check call logs / messages etc.
I did this on a friends S1 when their kid locked them out of the phone due to too many pattern attempts.
Not sure if it will work on the S2 but worth a try.

Hi all, i had a bad start to the new year...some teenager snatched & ran away with my Touch Dual this morning (dawn,it was dark).
Anyway, my Telco can only deactivate the SIM card. I called HTC to check if thr was a way to BLOCK the phone in anyway...but their office is closed as its new years day.
Any1 has any ideas wat i might be able to do? I dnt think i'll see it again but its really disappointing. some luck huh?
p.s. I intend to get another touch dual the soonest i can afford it..

What do you expect from them to block? I think you want something that's not possible. However, I know that in Holland, the police somtimes sends a sms-bomb to the IMEI number of a stolen phone. I don't know where you're from. but maybe the police in your country can do that to. It seems very anoying to me to receive lot ant lots of sms messages about using a stolen phone
i thought it was up to your network to get the imei barred? if your network wont help i doubt if HTC will do much.
Go to Police with your IMEI!
the IMEI is also on the box the device came with
i was under the impression you can break a phone if you have its imei
I'm sorry...

I can't believe the nerve of that little jerk. Your bad experience just gave me an idea. I once put an app on my Magician that when a different Sim card was inserted into my phone, it would send me a text/email with the telephone number of that Sim. I never had to use it so I can't say for sure that it actually worked. I guess I should've tested it. But anyway, my point is; I'm going to find that app and post it for all.
Can't wait until you get your Dual back.

yep, i came across that software before too..now i wish i had tried that. (well, another lesson in life!)..my only saving grace is i have everything i need backed up. with the IMEI number, which i already gave the police, the only way the thief will be caught if he tries to sell to a 2nd hand mobile phone shop.
by the way, im in Singapore, one of the lowest crime rates in the world. but hey, still, low crime doesnt mean no crime.
oh my, i miss my phone so much...haha..now i can just laugh about it. i just checked the retail price of the dual here...it will cost me about USD 700. sigh...
luckycris0,
if u find that app, pls post it here...thanks..
after this lesson, i will use that, if not for anything....just for karma.

Hope that helps.
Here's an app that's similar to what I was talking about in my post earlier. The trial version is available from handango.com and it's about 25usd to purchase. Give this a try. I'm certainly going to on both my Nike and Polaris. I'm still going to try and locate the app so you all don't have to pay for it but since that time, I've changed laptops countless times, but I always save everything to disc so we'll see.
thks
thks guys...i will definitel try these apps...once bitten twice shy!
ystrday, i jus bought myself another TOUCH DUAL!...got it at a better offer..had 2 sign a new 2year contract for another telco line...& gave the line to a loved one to use...
Uhm.
I read a few years back that your operator can block the whole phone, not just the SIM card. Never needed to use it, I have no idea if it really works.
Bad luck!
Anyway, thx guys for the app! can really be handy!
will one of these appz survive after a flash or hard reset? guess not So, they are pretty useless in front of phone guardian for symbian in example

It probably can be if he's set it up right, but you can use that to help return it to him (assuming that's what you're intending). As far as I know it does use GPS.

The right thing to do is find out who's phone it is and return it , its pretty easy with the data kept on phones "now a days".. The HTC online service can used to lock the phone , wipe data , track phone etc. But this feature is useless if the phone is off or the sense account is deleted or changed on the phone.
Correct me if I'm wrong !

Previous post is completely correct. I'd just return it save you the trouble. I mean put yourself in their shoes, how would you feel if you lost you phone?
Do the right thing. Return it.
Hand it in to your local police station, make sure they log it and give you a reference number. Then after a set period of time, possibly 4 weeks, if the owner has not claimed it you can legally claim it.
However, the owner has probably reported it as lost and had it network barred. Not sure if you can then get it removed, but that is the right thing to do.
you'r right dude thanks

I found some guys phone once, read his msgs and txt a few people to let them know I had found it. He rang me up on it and asked me to meet him at a certain place and time, I told him I was working at that time so would have to meet him an hour or so later, he went mad at me over the phone saying I should meet him when he said! I just laughed at him and told him Id be there later. After meeting up with the guy he showed no appreciation for what I had done to get his phone back to him, some people huh?
Wow miclair. That is just sad. You have much more class than I do. Still showing up and giving them the phone after they get.mad when you were trying to.do the right thing. I commend you for that.

Try and trace the owner or hand it in would be a good start.
Trace the owner, and if you cannot find them, hand it in to the nearest police station to where you found it.
Alternatively contact the carrier who can trace the sim number or mobile number of the phone and find the owner.
keep it, if you drop yours you have a spare one ,
unless the owner calls the phone. than you can give it back >.>
If you dont hand it in you will probably find the IMEI gets blocked by the carrier when it gets reported missing, so wont be of much use as a phone anyway.
Hand it in, if it was your phone I am sure you would wish for the same.
shouldn't be too hard to trace the owner, so do it.
If you can turn WiFi and gps on and leave the phone powered on (Samsung dive) else turn it in.
Step 1: Check the call log and call one of the numbers the person dials often. That's sure to be a friend/family member of the person.
Step 2: Tell them you found the phone and let them put you in touch with the owner.
Step 3: Return the phone to its rightful owner.
Step 4: Enjoy the boost in Karma.
The owner uses Samsung Dive and is tracking you right now. It's a guy, he's 6'4," 250lbs, and read this thread on XDA. Now what are you going to do
I don't understand the question. Is that just me?
There's only 1 thing to do, and that's ring someone (as suggested above) and return it to its rightful owner.
Edit: Alternatively, check the email address of the owner and get in touch with them that way.

What ever you do, never hand it to the police. it will end with them. This should be the last option If all the others don't work. Better it ends with the rightful owner as first option or you as last but one option.
What would you do if you found 5000 dollars on the floor? Hand it to the police? If you can't trace it, they can't.

I dont think you can call the guy a thief, he found the phone, did not steal it from anybody.
Now morally, thats a different matter.
I would try and trace the rightfull owner and return his phone.

I agree with OrionCarl in this case. Just because you find something doesn't mean it doesn't belong to someone else. Keeping it when you know that it does is the equivalent of stealing it.

Hello everyone.
Today I found a brand new SGS2 on a supermarket and I took it
So I was wondering if they can track me down by GPS or something like that, if they lock the phone what's the worst that can happen ?
By the way before you judge me I didn't steal anything, like I said I found it.
If I were you I would see a lawyer and discuss this. In Germany you wouldn't have stolen it but would've been guilty of "Fundunterschlagung" which is also a crime and can and will be punished.
Tracking a phone is not that hard, there's the IMEI for example. In the very moment you use a sim card your carrier will know the IMEI of your device. So if the owner of the device reports this the police definitely can track down this very phone.
In addition you should never forget that most supermarkets have cameras.
I guess I will save you and me a discussion about the moral implications of such a behaviour.
Yeah, you're right.
I will give it tomorrow to my carrier maybe they will find in which name it is registered and give it back to the owner.
Thanks.
The answer is yes. This was not abandoned property. imho, You have a moral obligation and perhaps a legal obligation to return the phone.
Sent from my SCH-I800 using xda premium
You should have given it to the supermarket customer service or manager or even hand it into a police station, im assuming it wasn't on when you found it (otherwise the owner would no doubt try and call the phone to see if anyone had it)
This thread makes me sad...if i lost my phone id cry and hope that the person that found it would have the decency to answer my frantic calls or hand it in to have it returned to me. Do the decent thing.

Seriously? If they find out you did that then you may well lose your job. As an employee your actions are not seen in the same light as a customer.
Look at the call log and call someone who's on there frequently. Tell them you have the phone and arrange to get it back to the owner. You'll make someone very happy and you'll save yourself a potentially large amount of trouble

Of course return it. Not only you feel good when you see the owner's face thanking you and being re united with their handset but also you might get a little reward...But that is not the point you should of just gave it to your supervisor as that would of been the decent thing to do...
Imagine if the supervisor said "ok i will return it" and kept it for himself
Either way glad you are doing the right thing

Someone has problems with custom rom and CWM 5?
Be a nice guy and just try to track down the owner. Just check which Google account the phone syncs with and fire up an email.
If you've switched your own SIM into the phone, it's very likely the phone has sent a text message to a number the owner set up the moment you fired it back up. It's also fairly easy to track the phone via GPS, check call logs and wipe the phone remotely. The service provider can also track IMEI numbers on phones registered on their network.
More importantly, make the real owners day and let the poor guy have his precious phone back!

Dear community,
Recently I found a Samsung Galaxy S5 on a football pitch, while playing. I'm living in the middle of nowhere, so i decided to wait for somebody to call it. There were no contacts or something like that, only 2 pictures of some strange stuff:laugh: Now I've waited for 2 weeks, and nobody has called the phone or anything. Now I decided to keep the phone. I factory resetted the phone and deleted all data and cache, it's completely empty now. My question is, can the phone be tracked by using findmyphone even though I've resetted it, or do I have to install a new Rom on it?
Sorry for my English btw
Cheers

At this point I don't think phone can be trackable, if you waited for 2 weeks that was enough time for them to tracking it down if phone was set up for some kind of tracking app. Have you checked the ESN/IMEI? may be reported as lost now
Would be interesting what strange stuff was on the pictures. Was the phone part of a crime? Were it nude photos?
We will never know because you just deleted everything.
Depending on what was on the phone I would have brought it to the police or to a shop of the carrier used (if found with sim card). They could have found the owner within minutes or at least a few hours.
Despite that every phone has a so called IMEI number which can be tracked down independent from the sim used. You can change that number if you know how but there is a high risk of hard bricking the phone. And in fact I hope you hard brick it because you just deleted someones phone without trying to find the owner.
Have a nice day.

Guys, it's been 2 weeks since he found the phone, he said he didn't get any calls, is not like he found the phone this morning and couple hours later he did a reset. If he is telling the truth

Yeah... if the owner wanted his phone back, why didn't he look for it? 2 weeks not even a call!
Depending on where you live like in UK the network could sim block it if the owner decided to by calling their provider meaning it couldn't work on any network, so if you ever decide to sell it just remember there's always that risk.
I smell some fishy fishy business. How plausible is it for OP to find a phone with no contact/log/message list whatsoever?
I mean, not even a single text message?
Then OP would like to modify the phone to prevent it from ever being recovered. Sorry buddy, you won't find assistance here.
Classic symptoms of a "I illegitimately acquired a phone, and do not wish to return it!"
The phone is trackable through IMEI. Your local telecom commission has the power to block usage from the phone rendering it useless to you.
Well, if it has a Sim card in it, it should display what carrier network it's on...take it to them or the police. Doesn't sound like you tried very hard to find the owner or you stole it.

two weeks....Two months or 2 years won't matter...he isn't the real owner of the phone...and trying to blocking it from being tracked by original owner is the part that I have a beef with....He needs to turn it in tot he local police station and they will decide to give it back to him after a while that it's been unclaimed. He doesn't have the legal or moral authority to decide when he's gonna magically turn into the owner of the phone.

Yeah... because in the real world you find a phone and you waste time and effort to try to find the owner, when the owner doesn't even care.
Around 80% of my contacts doesn't memorize their own number, moreso memorize other people's number which are already saved in their contact list. If he doesn't make a backup (gmail or not) he won't have any way to contact his own number. He can probably return the phone and sim to the carrier and they will contact the owner.
I'm saying that there is no real effort on his side and he clearly has intention not to return he phone. If there's a will, there's a way.
Report it as found at the local police and at the provider and wait if the owner will claim it.

I have to agree... doesnt matter how long its been. It matters what you've done to find the owner. The most obvious thing would be to get the number/carrier off the phone and take it to one of their stores as they can easily look up the number and know who it belongs to
