Hi people,
First post here I think, but Ive been around a while.
for the last few weeks ive been having terrible battery life on my Nexus S (i9020) and the battery stats are showing "Android OS" as being the culprit. I have tried loads of different things like a full wipe, remove all my apps etc etc.
I installed the ICS Rom, the Kellmsking MIUI rom and a stock 2.3.6 rom all with the same problem.
Each time i install a new rom, I do a factory reset/wipe, wipe cache, dalvic whatever thingy etc yet i still get the battery issue when I install a few rom.
Anyone got any idea's on what i can do to sort this out?
Ive searched and searched, both here and everywhere else on the net and I cant find any useful information.
Thanks in advance guys.
Did you try wiping battery stats in Advanced menu in CWM?
Also next time you install a ROM go to mounts and storage and format system partition.

i had the same battery issue til i flashed the matrix rom with the matrix 10.0 kernal...they calibrated the battery with a calibration app...since then i get a good 12 to 18 hrs on a charge..i have the governor set to smartass..1000/200 with deep idle enabled...give it a try it worked for me

Matr1x kernel also does the trick for me... you could also try the teuv! But matr1x is the [email protected]#t for me! SmartassV2

Thanks guys, I'll look into those suggestions.
Yup, I wiped battery stats and system etc. pretty much everything that has an option to be wiped, i tried and still have the problem.
I just cant get my head around why its happening though. I've had the phone since march and its been fine all along.
I would try changing battery. Maybe your battery's life just ended...
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
but that doesn't explain why "android OS" is giving so much trouble in the battery stats.
I didnt seem to have it after flashing ICS but i had to get rid of that for other reasons (unreliability, crashing rebooting etc).
just downloaded the matrix kernel and am about to flash it.
My phone has been in airplane mode for the last 2 hours or so and i had reset the battery stats just before then. its showing 46% on "Android OS" in the battery stats and only 18% in "Display".
I also have Sync'ing turned off, GPS turned off, bluetooth off etc and no apps installed, yet i still get the battery drain.
Hopefully this kernel does the trick.
Well, what you described makes sense though. Assuming you weren't playing with the phone hardly at all, during that period of time, the OS probably used more power than your display.
heres my battery stats after 12hrs over moderate use...mostly texting at work..n some net

thanks guys.
I installed the matrix kernel last night and its early yet but i think i still have the same problems. the phone was actually off this morning (bout an hour ago) and I had left it only 6 hours previously with 3/4 full so it ran itself dead overnight in standby with not being used.
Im getting really tired of it now, Have tried everything from kernels to roms, removing every app i use etc etc and still im having this problem.
sup people, Little update with some pics of my system. I cant seem to do screen shots on this phone like I do with the Galaxy S so their just photos.
As you can see, in the last 10 hours and 15 mins, Android OS has used 25% of the battery. it was originally higher than the screen usage but i turned the brightness all the way up to see what would happen with the stats.
Its been out of the charger since about 12 O'Clock(4 and a half hours ago) and my battery level is at 37%.
You can see in this one, I installed the Matrix kernel last night and reinstalled 2.3.6 stock rom (rooted).
Any tips or advice is very much welcome guys. Its either that or im gonna end up taking it outside and shooting it.
Well, I went ahead and tried yet another rom. I went with this Oxygen rom from the dev section,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285243
At this moment my battery is at 80% and I have added nothing, not even signed in with my gmail account. Im gonna give it a while and see if it drains excessively again and see if that could help pinpoint the problem.
the kernel has obviously been replaced too, with the one that comes in the Oxygen rom.
When is OTA due?
I'm not quite sure what you mean?
Well its been on for 8 hours now and theres 31% left in the battery. This is with literally no usage in that time.
I'm starting to come around to the thought that the phone itself is faulty so i think ill look into reverting to stock rom, stock recovery, lock bootloader etc and take it to the shop. Anyone got any advice on doing that?

Hi guys, I'm stuck in this problem from about 2 weeks...and i can't get rid of it. Im on PA with franco kernel. But this would happen with every kernel.
Android OS "keep awake" status grows everytime i turn off the screen. It can reach up to 2hrs with 15 hrs of battery life. If i turn stock ( i did the procedure on sunday) the problem seems to disappear so is not hardware related...
I've just factory wiped my phone and flashed the new pa rom and franco milestone. The Android OS keep active status continues to grow insanely. And ive only gmail installed it seems to grow only when i turn off the screen.
Rom dev told me that is not rom related (no one with pa has the same problem)
Kernel devs told me that is not kernel related
I can now suppose that this is not apps related, Ive flashed common gapss for paranoid rom, that's the stock pack.
What the hell causes this awake status???
Android OS in battery page means apps related drains.

So you're saying your phone doesn't have any other apps besides the ones in the /system and you still have Android OS as the battery drainer? Like just ROM + gapps? No 3rd party apps?

yes...this is the situation. I come from a clean installation (factory reset/wipe cache/wipe dalvik -> flash rom+kernel+gapps). Obviously i have the aosp browser and the goo manager...
Another weird thing i've noticed is that i have the voice "operative system" in my mobile data usage that has downloaded 90kb in background. I know that "google services" is related to the account synchronization...but what is this "operative system" ?
ah...ive forgot to say that i i've disabled the "backup and restore from google account" option
no other help?
Disable admobs in Play store and gmail
Disable everything in Play store as a matter of fact (notifications and such)
For me, Android system is taking number two spot in battery usage.. after the screen. I doubt that is normal.. the matr1x kernel was very good as far as I can remember.. I used it for a bit, but the stock will keep the fluidity in lockscreen.. waking takes a split second longer with other kernels.
Have you tried redownloading and reinstalling everything? Maybe install the aokp gapps, which has less items and download the one or two you need for the first few hours.. just to check..
R: Android OS "keep awake" status drains my battery
Just installed xda to say that even with every single little thing disabled...even with WiFi and mobile data off...it keeps growing (5 secs in 10sec of screen off)
Ive tried everythng even return to stock (seems to solve the issue). if i remember well...with pa i can flash only the gapps that come with this rom
It's just weird

Update
Ive found something really weird...
If i manual sync my account in the google sync menu....the keep active status in my android os stat...fall down in time for about min.
Everytime i manually sinc the account...the keep active status decreases.
Someone has an exlpanation for this?
UPDATE: i've removed and relogged my google account many times. And the Android OS "keep awake" has fallen down from 20mins to 0mins. I will repost later if it comes back
Update: nope...now is growing faster even at screen on. It raised to 4mins in 5secs

I would try different roms like rasbean, minco, and others because that problem usually goes away . Just let the ROM settle for a little bit and look on BBS to see what it shows you.

The aosp browser and goo manager are in the /system, not /data. What you should do is install BBS, charge your phone, unplugged it and leave it for at least 4 hours and dump the BBS stat. Don't forget to enable root features so it'll show the alarm stats.
If you're saying that Android OS keeps your phone awake then BBS will show that your phone doesn't go into deep sleep.
R: Android OS "keep awake" status drains my battery
Hi guys...
Turning to stock (franco kernel) seems to have solved the android os keep active status...now it just reaches sometimes a couple of minutes...returning back to 0 without doing anything...even at screen off.
But 25 mins ago ive set a custom reference to BBS and left the phone in standby. I dont know why but tapatalk used the cpu all the time...and never let the phone going to sleep. Ive not even used tapatalk from when the phone booted

Another update in case someone has the same issue.
With a custom kernel the phone has continued to have the issue. The keep active status was lesser than before but it was there at 40mins of awaking the phone
So i had to reset kernel and turn completely stock. Once in stock ive factory resetted the phone going in phone settings.
Now the issue is really gone. However i still dont know what has caused it. Maybe something in the android system settings
If someone has an explanation i would be really grateful

for me the troubles started with the last update from 20 November
without using the phone, the battey drains in 9 hours, not installed any third party apps
Android OS kernel 52% , Android system 9,8 % Media 5 %
I contacted samsung for a couple of times, and only give the basic answers
already wiped cache, several times, re installed the stock firmare two times, MJ7, nothing helps
i am getting really sick of this and already looking around for another phone
Kind regards, Wiebe

Have you tried to stop comm/sync stuff? For instance disable the sync toggle? Or both Wifi and Mobile Data when you do not use that?
Have you tried wakelock detector to see what keeps your CPU from entering deep sleep state?

What eventually fixed mine was a complete wipe, then reinstalling stock. (I have since gone on to a custom rom again and custom kernel) - my Android OS/System sit on 3-6% average now. Where as previously they were sky high.
IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE!
This thread will help you optimize ur battery - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579075
Don't confuse the percentage in settings for the actual drain percentage. It just means that of the ACTUAL drain, 20% is done by OS. So 20% of for example 4% per hour.
Use BetterBatteryStats and Wakelock Detector (both can be found in XDA) to find out what is really causing it.
My Android OS and Android System are also both at 20%... But I still only lose 0.1% in deep sleep.
And in the past hour it went from 96 to 93%, with screen at 100% brightness, Wifi, tapatalk and music. So....
Send From My Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9005 Using Tapatalk
Again.... It's a known issue. There are many Threads about AndroidOS Bug and the Deepsleep Problem.
Just search for it or read the last few days in this forum.
Every day a new Headline for the same Problem and in 95% of all no App is the Problem for the battery draining.
If you use your Phone not often, and your Battery lose 2-4% per hour, AndroidOS is on top of your Battery Status list and everything is fine.
If your Battery need much much more per hour, and AndroidOS is also on Top check the wake time from Display and AndroidOS.
This is okay

If you can't find the source of the drain try a factory reset.
We went through so many threads like that, my man.
Do a search.
For the headup, assuming that you have already turned off Android location access, turned off Google location access, turned off auto-sync (I know you said you needed it but just for now, off it), turned off gps/mobile networks, do the following
a. disable Knock On/Off feature
b. disable CIQ (if you don't have CIQ, then ignore this step)
Note: do one by one and make an observation how the battery life behaves after each change.
Oh, btw, reboot the phone, say, right after unplugging the charge.

Don't hope, fix now.
If I was you, I would backup all my important personal info on the phone and factory reset it.
I would do those tricks one by one w/o installing any app yet and see how the battery fares after each charge.
General speaking, we need to understand the root cause and find the solution from there, if it needs to be rooted to fix the problem then you root it otherwise, blindly rooting and assuming everything else will fix isn't the right way to debug.

hi, everywhere i've read all over the internet seems to me that no one has actually a clue as to why samsung phones are using a lot of batter..ie my galaxy s6 edge plus on uk vodafone..100% in the morning need to recharge it again at 6 or 7 oclock with light usage...lots of people are having similar issues with samsung devices, all saying its the android system or android os using it as you can see that when you go into your battery settings, beyond that its all mystery...then you get ....turn this off, disable that, power save that, get wakelock detector, task detector. Phoned samsung this morning they said it was the battery...oh dear me...they would replace it for me, i would have to be without a phone for a few days...that was their answer....the phone is 2 months old with light usage, had iphones in the past, not one problem, since android, im now paranoid in making a call and sending a text incase the battery dies...you shouldn't have to disable features on a phone that was made for that phone, there is clearly a fault in the software, so im asking the super experts here if they can actually pin point the problem thanks, its happening a lot, so there clearly must be a bug in the system software somewhere...and its not my apps, only got half a dozen installed, and i ve reset, cache cleaned, reinstalled one app a time, tried it with no apps installed, always the same...android os or android system between 12% to 87%...thanks to anyone that helps
I'm having the same issue. Last week before the 6.0.1 update I rooted my S6E+ and it started going into a boot loop. So I put stock rom back on again and left it. But the battery is terrible since. I thought the update to 6.0.1 would help but it's the same. At night (10pm) I'd put into airplane mode at 100% and by morning (7am) it would still be 97%. Now in the morning it's 43%! It's losing 57% overnight in airplane mode.
Any help really appreciated!

If factory reset didnt help you need root . This is the only way to fix it
I aware you have trip the knox and that cause Doze fail to start when it is on idle.. Please check your knox via Phone Info *Samsung* via playstore and if it shows 01, that means the knox is tripped..
By placing the root, leaving the stock firmware the device does not go into deep sleep and then consumes the battery.
You must flash a kernel for MM
Battery drain is caused by a lot of factors. The truth is that there are a lot of apps/services on your phone that you don't actually need/use. Google for example tracks location, syncs your account, backup, etc. All these services are running in the background and eat up juice. Android is different than iOS, so you need to disable some apps/services that you don't need to prevent them from running. There's also a lot of apps that have the "wake up phone" permission enabled or "keep phone awake", that even though your screen is off, will sync and do stuff. There used to be a method in Lollipop to prevent an app/service from waking up your phone, but I can't find it in Marshmallow (yet).
I'd recommend to root your phone, install TitaniumBackup/Package Disabler/etc. and freeze all apps/services you don't need. Search for "debloat" and you'll find loads of lists that you don't actually need and can disable.
Thanks guys for the help. Can someone give me any pointers (link to forum) where I can update my kernel or root please? Really appreciate all the answers thanks
I am back to 5.1.1 now and rooted.
I've noticed my phone is now downloading the 6.0 update again. Is it ok to install this or will I lose root again?

hi, everywhere i've read all over the internet seems to me that no one has actually a clue as to why samsung phones are using a lot of batter..ie my galaxy s6 edge plus on uk vodafone..100% in the morning need to recharge it again at 6 or 7 oclock with light usage...lots of people are having similar issues with samsung devices, all saying its the android system or android os using it as you can see that when you go into your battery settings, beyond that its all mystery...then you get ....turn this off, disable that, power save that, get wakelock detector, task detector.

Everything you posted is true.
Where ever any help for battery asked everyone says disable this and that.
There is some kind of software bug.
I really regret now for buying this device
Battery Drain
I am also facing same issue tried moving to custom Rom performance is awesome though battery drain is something i am not able to understand .Even i tried keeping phone on airplane mode still battery drain .Maximum standy i am getting is 9 hours after light usage .
Any help will be really appreciated .
Install a custom kernel and rom, flash exposed framewrok and install Greenify, Coolify and Amplify. That's how i minimized the battery drain.
I recommend the Audax plus kernel and rom.
You'll find it here with a detailed guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s6-edge-plus/development/rom-audax-plus-v1-0-t3219017

There is no root available for the at&t varient
You know.. it's such a shame.
I loved my phone but I'm not keen on doing Samsung again. My battery life was horrendous.
Greenify and Disabler Pro h help a lot but not enough.
i think i got the same problem. i rootet my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ (SM-G928F)
After i saw that 7.0 was on the way for the s6 and s6 edge i unrootet so the phone was ready to get it OTA.
But after this it´s using around 40-50% over night
First time i unrootet i used Samsung Smart Switch to get back to stock.
I then rootet and aplied a Deep Sleep fix wich help
But now i want to sell the phone and would like to sell it stock and from i can see it looks like the problem is still there.
This time i flashed the phone via odin and with this file G928FXXS3BQB1_G928FNEE3BPI1_G928FXXU3BQA5_HOME.tar.md5 from sammobile.
I hope someone can help me out to if there is a fix so it get´s deep sleep in stock.
Don't get any phone with small battery. Like 2K resolution with 3000mAh is a bad idea. Galaxy s6 edge+ Plus should have 4000mAh battery instead.
Get Galaxy A5 2017 full HD screen but you get a better battery life.
Hey,
I'm having issues with my nexus 6p phone where it seems to have some battery drain issues, when i'm checking the battery history the wifi uptime is 100% while it's actually turned off.
What i have tried:
Verifying wifi advanced options - turned everything off and changed freq to 2.4.
Location advanced options - turned everything off.
Looked in the xda forums , found a thread with the above solutions.
It's pretty annoying, my phone is updated to last version(this months update).
Have anyone else faced this issue as-well and solved it somehow?
Thanks in advance.

If you could, please provide some actual battery stats. What is your screen on time? What is the actual battery life? Screenshots please.
Battery drain on Nexus 6P
Hello,
I am experiencing the same issue. I tried few ROMs and Kernels, but since a month and something ago my Nexus 6P is having some serious battery drain issues. Before I managed to get over 5 hours SOT before, but then the battery drains began and now I manage to get only 3 hours and a few minutes at the best.... I turned off all of the potential settings that can affect battery life (scanning and location included) but it didn't help. It seems to me that my phone does not want to Doze (you can see it when you look at last screenshot)...
I am attaching screenshots from BetterBatteryStats (while using stock ROM and Kernel), and another screenshot from Settings->Battery while using ParanoidAndroid build.

I had the same issue for a while, but it has recently stopped. The WiFi usage bar is now empty. I haven't noticed any particular change in battery life whether it shows it or not so I would say it's nothing to worry about.
I've seen reports of this glitch from back when L was released. So it's probably no more than a glitch.

I remember that glitch and I was wondering about that.
I'm on WiFi almost constantly anyway so I can't confirm.

Do you think it's a glitch? Can you please take a look at screenshots provided above by me and confirm it is a glitch or something else? Be it a glitch or not, something is still draining my battery very badly.
Thank you.

Personally, I wouldn't use the Facebook app. It's a huge resource hog. I use the mobile site. The bug discussed didn't actually cause battery drain though, it only showed on the graph as always on. You are most likely getting the drain from elsewhere. Try uninstalling Facebook and give it a 24 hour cycle. See if your results are better.
Also, I always recommend backing up and wiping internal storage once and a while. That can clear up a ton of issues.

If you have Viber, go to General settings and tick "use device's settings" and check if the problem goes away.

+1
The same here.
Anybody that may have another solution?
P.S.: It seems to me that my Nexus 6P does not go into Doze Mode.
