Returned to stock DI18 yesterday after experiencing glaring issues within less than one day of using EB13. That's a testament to how bad it is. EB13 is definitely not ready for prime time and must've been rushed out with glaringly known issues to appease the public with a 2.2 release. The stability, functionality and feature loss are not worth whatever minor gains in EB13 Froyo 2.2 such as bluetooth voice dialing, in-browser Flash support, etc. For now DI18 is the way to go for stability (record 600+ hours uptime before forced reboot) and for the most part everything work or have work around. Froyo 2.2 update is a failure for Sprint in comparison to T-Mobile Vibrant because theirs actually made improvements and resolve issues.
Method of upgrade was ODIN to stock DI18, run Samsung update for EB13, boot into recover mode, cleared cache and applied factory defaults.
EB13 issues found within a short time span and was concerned what else might surface:
- Instability, phone shut down when clicking on a link in browser
- Video camera live view and recording lag. I use the video camera every day so it was glaringly obvious.
- Graphical glitch in browser when dragging page where a block of the page is offset. This is glaringly obvious too and surprised it got by QA.
- Samsung update hung towards the end on second flash, good thing for old reliable stand-alone ODIN
You should try ODINing to EB13 rather than the Samsung method, most users so far have had a nearly flawless EB13 experience
I think it really depends on the exact methods people are using to upgrade. I haven't had any glaring issues, just some small things that existed on the stock 2.1, like weird button miss presses, some keyboard lag. Just waiting for a good EB13 rom before I say anything is defunct.
I wouldnt go all the way back to eclair....try if u don't like eb13 use dk28 I haven't gone to eb 13 but if I don't like how eb13 rides im going to dk28 especially now with a OC kernal
sent from my Epic 4G
If I only had one Epic, I would stay on di18, or a custom ROM based on di18. Since I have 2 Epics, one will stay on di18 and the other will continue to beta test Froyo ROMs. There is little progress between dk28 and EB13. Most of the bugs from dk28 still exist in the latest release. I really hope our devs here can clean this mess up.
Im sad to say. But I just did. The low fps on low light video recording killed EB13 for me. Useless since I go out and do pegan nightime rituals and record the clan meeting. Now instead of having awesome night time videos off me wearing my long night hooded warlock trechcoat, it looks like a disaster video of blurr. How can I continue my rituals with this shat samsung!? Foorrrr shaaaammme!
At first I went back to a rooted/customized DI18. Unfortunately, the damn system update message kept popping up saying that an update was available and needed to install. I eventually got sick of the message and flashed the phone to Froyo using Odin. What do I have to remove to prevent the system update from trying to update my rooted phone?

You can delete the system updater.apk in the system/app directory. This will prevent your phone from downloading and prompting you to update.

Weird, I used the update.zip method of updating my rooted epic from stock and have only had small annoying problems that were today outweighed by the single fact that the gps now locks instantly to within ten feet...indoors.

Color me lucky?
Used Samsung method after returning to stock. Battery, GPS et al rock solid on EB13. Enjoyed Bonsai, but am now "in the groove" - custom ROM had some nice details, but gaps as well. EB13 is a hi function 4G smarter phone for me!
I did. After the latest issue of losing 4G for 2 days straight I reinstalled eb13 and nothing. I went back to DI18 and 4G came right up, what a shocker.
EDIT: I'm running on midnight ROM eb13 4.0 and with the new wired tether apk posted in the themes and apps area, my phone is running flawlessly! I just had to correct this post.

I went back. I record videos all the time and that's what killed it for me. Even in still-camera mode the pictures look almost pastel, hate it.
I'll be going back to Eclair. I really didn't like anything froyo had to offer besides the updated youtube app (if I can't get that on 2.1) and flash support.
I just got froyo this morning OTA, went to class, came home and flashed it again hoping to fix my main problems. Didn't work. I just got done wiping my phone, flashing DI18, reboot, flashing EB13, and still it's still messed up.
I really don't care about the camcorder deal because I don't use it often but the laggy sleep/wake and no auto correct are really annoying for me. I only use my epic for browsing here and there and mainly texting/music. Now the audio sounds bad and on top of that my dictionary vanished. I don't even know if anyone else is having this problem because no one seems to say anything about it. Not to mention they changed the call log (the little phone button) and you can't toggle through ringtone volume>vibrate>silent any more with the volume buttons.
Gonna go back to DI18, root, remove system updater(thanks for that tip^), fix the yamaha calibutil thing, and sit happily while I wait for a stable(r) release. What a pain.

Yup! Sick of it.
Well, I'm done messing with this phone. It has been in a desk drawer for 2 months waiting for an upgrade. Now that it officially has Froyo, I can advertise it as such and sell it on eBay. It's back to the EVO for me until my contract renewal comes up. From there, who knows. I loved the screen but hate the bugs!

I used that method too and I get gps locks in about 3 SECONDS now.....before I couldnt even get the nav to work...(Turn by turn voice directions were completely gone)
However EB13 is kinda buggy....nothing major yet just a lot of scrolling glitches and such.
im gonna wait for some eb13 roms before abandoning ship

Buy another phone.....preferably one not made by Samsung.
eb13 was anything but rushed lol
This is pretty sad. All of the people in this forum griped and moaned and yelled about not having froyo, now that they got it they dont want it. Bunch of kids
Now I dont profess to be an expert, but the low light thing is there, it is a bug and im sure they will fix it. is it a deal breaker? OMG no it isnt.
Just got my 7.7 this afternoon and it showed a SW Update, that said it was to improve overall performance.
Since I'm using ADW, all is pretty snappy anyway.

Finally I got my Tab 7.7 updated to official Jelly Bean version!
Luckily I live in the Indonesia, one of the areas where Samsung has officially released their first JB update over over-the-air update (totalling 470mb).
So far the only issue is the digital clock app (crashes everytime my tab restarts).
Better virtual keyboard experience though somehow it looks very much like ipad's... I wonder why samsung did this.
Smart stay is now available, also the face unlock.
I also notice HDMI option at the sound setting options, enabling to choose stereo mode or surround.
Better camera captures, especially the front camera. Shutter response is also improved.
Noticed a new standard app called "play music". Haven't check the difference with the previous music player app.
There is a new button "blocking mode". I wonder what's the difference with previous notification button.
oh yes, the thing I like the most is that you can now playback videos at real full screen. Occupying the spacious 1280×800 pix screen of the tab 7.7.
and always remember, the screen is the only super amoled hd+ screen ever installed in ANY samsung tabs!
My opinion: finally samsung paid attention to 7.7! No need to look for the note8 or tab3.. JB is ruling on 7.7 now!

this is great news well its not what we expected to be 5.1 update but its something im glad alcatel has actually listened to us especially through that Email that was sent last month hopefully in mind they should release the source code soon or someone to capture the OTA and extract it

As mentioned in the root or update thread, the OTA updates contain only patches to the binary code and not full source. It'll have to come from Alcatel.
well they sure are taking their sweet time pushing it out, its not hitting mine yet.
how many possible users could they be going out to afterall? its not like this phone went mainstream...

It's slowly making its way mainstream. It should release this week. I hope it's not one of those updates that break something when trying to do good.
Already had the update last week and the performance is much better now!
Looks like an update is rolling out right now, dated today the 13th....still 5.0.2 unfortunately
Yup - installing right now. Still 5.0.2 ..

After the update try to clear all all opening apps, you will mention that it's without any lag or stutter

I am not sure if it is just me - but at least this part is NOT fixed. clearing open apps still has the same stutter that it had before. I restored the animation scale back to 1x and that has not changed anything. Maybe that is how it is supposed to be.
The app launching appears to have improved *slightly* . Whether double tap is more reliable remains to be seen. The update did not reset my launcher setting i.e. it did not revert to the stock launcher .
Overall - so far , I am not seeing anything worth getting too excited about - Not so far at least.
BTW - just to confirm - I now have Android version = 5.0.2 Kernel version = 3.10.49 Build number = 7SQR-UER0

Same here, not too much difference noted with this update. Anyone know if Alcatel includes a changelog someplace with these updates?
I feel differently. This update, so far, is great. The lag I had previously is nearly gone and installing apps is much much faster. DTTW has worked everytime (only tried about 7-8 times so far) unlike previously when it hardly ever worked. I don't notice anything different on the camera but I've only played with it for a short period. I've not used this phone as a daily driver since I got it in May because of the user experience, it just lagged and I hate lag - especially compared to my LG G2. Today however, I put my sim card in and will give it a true test, being the daily driver.
I was going to return it initially but held onto it waiting for an update and glad I did. I simply couldn't understand why this phone was not at least as fast (or faster) than my LG G Pro Or HTC One M7 since both of them are running the Snapdragon 600 (vs 615) and slower GPU. Plus both are also running pretty heavy skins yet both were way faster/smoother than the Idol 3. It had to be software and optimization which seems to be what this update addresses. The screen and speakers on this phone are to die for and I'm glad it's now able to be used effectively. I may think differently in a day or so after a real world test but for now I'm excited about this little guy.
I just got the update this morning, and my initial reaction is pretty good. The phone just feels snappier overall. The notification shade seems to come down very smooth all the time now. Previously, when the keyboard was open, the notification shade would drop a lot of frames when you pulled it down. The camera seems to be doing a better job of getting the correct point of focus too. Also, double tap to wake actually works now! This is huge for me because it only worked about once out of ten tries for me before. I'm happy.
Edit: I'm also seeing about 1.5GB of extra free storage. I wonder if the phone wasn't properly moving apps to the sd card before. I have about 12 games installed, and I have them all moved to the sd card.

Looks like you guys had the update we got last week in europe. It runs much better , cleaning apps doesn't lag anymore and everything runs smoother.
For the people still having problems can you confirm you're in 5.0.2-010 03 ?
I have just received new OTA update 1.85.401.5 for European version of M9 Plus.
Please
Can you share with us a copy of your new rom ? Please
What do you mean?
Can you do a zip file to install in recovery ? like tlbade has maded ?
@zazabichi so it's not 5.1, right?
With my s-off, i've just converted to main version 1.08 Europe region 401, all went fine. Now updating to 1.61, then hopefully to 1.85 Then i'll dump system image and look at creating an update for CleanSlate ROM

I had the stock 1.61.401.7 unlocked through HTCdev, rooted & installed exposed. I reverted to the stock back up I made (before root/exposed) but the OTA install is not working. I also reverted to stock recovery (only found 1.61.401.6). The attached image is what I get in the stock recovery after I get the red exclamation image. Any idea what am I doing wrong? do I have to re-lock the bootloader first or is it because of the stock recover being for 1.61.401.6 instead of 1.61.401.7?

I think it will be the difference in recovery.
Unfortunately I don't have that recovery extracted. Maybe someone caught the fota URLs andbacked up the OTA zip, that should contain the recovery, but I don't have them, sorry
Is there an improvement of the performance after the OTA? I'm interested in buying this phone to upgrade my M8. I read some reviews says that M9+ it cannot handle high frame rate games very well. even on switching to other apps on multi tasking.
Are this issues were improved after the latest OTA?
Thanks!

Better stay with the M8 if you're in for gaming. The OTAs didn't change much related to that, and I don't think it's possible. 2K screen and the GPU of iPhone 5S is not meant to be paired for high demand gaming, and no OTA will change that IMHO. For casual gaming still okay.
Antutu seems to score lower. But the ui multitasking seems to be improved overall quite a bit.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'm still upgrading to M9+ since I'm not into gaming. What I really like on HTC devices is the boomsound. I am tempted for the QHD and fingerprint sensor for M9+. For those features, still pretty good to upgrade to M9+.
What really confused me to buy is because of the news that HTC Aero will be coming soon. It would not feel great when you buy a new one then suddenly, another one is released.

It is strange that the Taiwan update mentions Battery improvements while the Euro update has System improvements, one would think they would be the same kind of upgrades, but they are different & also different in size.
