ok my question is in my beater car (subaru legacy) i have a cheap ol head unit in it since is just my beater gas saver and i can plug my epic into it using my usb cable and it will ask for mass storage charging all that stuff and i can click mass storage and it will play thru my stereo without any music player open and will show the names of the artists and songs on the stereo but not in my tahoe.
head unit in the beater is a duel (walmart brand)
head unit in the main ride the tahoe is a top pioneer and it will not play thru that like the cheap duel. i have to use auxilary port on the pioneer and use my music player on the phone. they both have usb and auxilery import.

I have a Duel in my Subaru Outback myself. I've never been able to get it to stay connected to any of my android phones long enough to play any music files from them. It seems to constantly disconnect and reconnect itself. I don't think the USB port on the head unit has enough power (at least not on the model I have). It will read files from a few different mp3 players I have, as well as all the USB thumb drives I've tried. I'm guessing that your Pioneer head unit's USB port is also low power.
its wierd cuz my daughters ipod works everytime thru the pioneer

I found out I can put rhapsody tracks on the SD card on my Titan (XV6800) so I've been using it as my car MP3 player. Problem is when it's plugged into the charger I get some noise (the phone is connected to my car using an aux port.) My question is does anyone use a similar setup, and if so what do you use as your charger? Right now I'm using a cig port to USB thing. I could probably reroute the ground, but I'd rather not deal with the mess of wires.
is this capable?

?? Are you asking how I have my phone as my MP3 player?
You need something like this. I have that connected to the 2.5mm/USB splitter that comes with the phone, then there's a 3.5mm lead that goes from that connector to my car stereo's aux input.
Considering there's a mic on the adapter, it doubles as a handsfree kit so when a call comes in, the music pauses and I can hear the caller through my stereo.
Pioneer Avic D3
I have the Pioneer Avic D3x in my car with the bluetooth module. I just installed it. I had to install a plugin on the mogul called a Jet something and it connected fine with my audio in the car. I can listen to my radio station SuperRadioMix.com and it mutes out when someone calls. The station streams perfectly to my mogul phone. This may sound like a advertising for my radio station....and it is. . Just to let you know you can do it.

Oh yea, blutooth would solve the problem because it's most likely related to the common ground, however I already have a rather nice Eclipse head, so I'm not looking to replace it. I am looking around for blutooth adapters though.
That noise you're hearing is a ground loop. The only way to get rid of it is to use some kind of ground loop noise isolator, like this one:

I use Mortplayer on my Titan for MP3's as well as streaming radio. It works really good!

This is exactly what I'm using. You can find it on Verizon's site, you might also be able to find it in the store.
Thanks coodaddy1, I figured that was the next step. I thought about running a ground from the cig lighter to the chassis to see if it eliminated the hum.
I am using the usb/2.5 splitter that came with the phone with a 2.5-3.5 splitter i got a radio shack, all that connected to my stereo line in. Works like a charm.

I found that the 2.5-3.5 doesn't have the correct amount of posts and you will need to eventually pull out the tip to get full stereo (are you sure you are getting stereo sound rather than mono out of both speakers- all left or all right)?
If that works, cool!
This is what you need - Car Dock with Audio out

NICE
I have ordered from these guys before - very high quality
I use mine for that all the time. I have one of those bracketron mounting clips that clip to your vent and I use the included headphone adapter and the usb splitter (becuase it wont charge unless you connect the power to the usb splitter). I connect a mini usb cable to a usb adapter in the charger socket. To connect to the radio on my ford focus I have a digital adapter that lets me use standard rca jack input to the digital port on the back of the factory radio (works with any any audio source)
To connect to the 2.5mm headset adapter,I have a cable I made by chopping the end of a old 2.5mm handsfree headset and soldering a standard 3.5mm headset socket to it. You should be able to buy a similar adapter from any vendor on the web. The headset that the moguls included adapter wants is the standard four conductor one that most multimedia cell phones like the samsung a920 use. (I originally used the cable I made with a samsung) The only problems I have had is that vibration from driving sometimes jiggles the mini usb loose from the phone and you have to plug it in again. I guess I could route the cable over the top of the bracket to hold it in place to solve the problem,in fact,Ill try that tomorrow.
One other problem I have had is tomtom as it has no internal media player. I was using it for gps functionality, but other than the fact that it is missing all sorts of key information on my area, like points of interest that it really should have, its very difficult to switch out of it and control media player. That means that while you can start your music and then launch the gps program you are then stuck with whatever your play list is and cant control media player. Other than that it does work well and the voice comes through fine. I switched to Garmins gps software and it works great. It does not even need to have some other app initialize the gps like tomtom does. It does not have an internal media player either, but at least its a little easier to switch out of.
im running a bt headset with a miniplug straight into my aux input in my car. works well enough to stream music and mp3s
Hi everybody,
I am wondering if someone knows if it is possible to connect the HTC Magic to the car stereo (via USB).
Now that I have flac support I would like to try it in the car stereo.
Thanks
I have mine connected via the CD changer port on my Clio.
The Magic is connected via one of these: Jays HTC Y Splitter
The EXT USB goes into the Magic, the USB connector goes into the USB charger and the female EXT USB goes into usb to 3.5mm jack which connects to the "Connects2" audio adaptor for the CD Changer which fools the head unit into thinking there is a changer connected and gives you a line in.
All this is behind the dash and only a couple of cm is showing to plug the Magic into when audio and charging is needed.
It sounds great when listening to music or podcasts and GPS instructions are clear as well. When connected and you get a call then it shuts off the music and routes the call to my BT headset seamlessly.
One thing I would point out is when I first put it in, I got a high pitched whine rising with the engine revs. I found this was due to the earthing of the charger and the alternator. It is called alternator whine and I fitted a ground loop isolator to the line in which cured the problem. All in all it took about an hour and £30 or so and works brilliantly.
Hope that helps.
I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't be able to connect using an actual USB cable (like you connect to the computer to charge or copy files with). Your head unit would likely be expecting an iPod to interface with.
What you CAN do, if your stereo head unit has an "Aux" input is connect an audio patch cable from the Aux input to the headphone adaptor that your phone came with. If you don't have one, try this link.
You will, of course, have to control the audio from your phone and not the radio head unit.
More expensive, BUT have a look at the Parrot Mki9100 Bluetooth hands free kit. Supports bluetooth stereo streaming, plays from a usb stick (and controls an ipod)
How do I connect the hero to the car stereo so I can listen to music through the speakers?
first you are going to need a bluetooth adapter or stereo that supports BT. Then pair them up and play. other option would be an aux connection.

Is there an adapter that uses cigarette lighter?
any mp3 player device that plugs into headphone port will work. Like the fm transmitter devices, that do plug in through the lighter. Just go to the mp3/ipod section at wal mart or best buy, they'll have it

DO you have an aftermarket stereo? If your stereo is stock, what is the year make and model of your car and i'll to see if you have the direct hookups. If you want great sounding music through your phones mp3 player, pandora, and ect.. this is the only way to do it (plugging split rca's in the back of the stereo and the other end into the headphone jack)
If your not so much into quality and just want to hear the music in your car a simple bluetooth device that someone reccommends on this thread would work - if your head unit supports bluetooth music streaming. Just because it has bluetooth on ur stereo it may only be limited to incoming and outgoing calls.
Then your only left with an FM Transmitter (worst sounding quality) not even the most expensive one will come close to the first two options you have above.
Post more details and I can help you. I'm very knowledgable with car electronics and installation.
Good luck

Thanks, It's for my wifes 2003 Honda CRV with stock stereo. I don't think there are any connections we can use. I believe we will have to use the cassette adapter (puke), but they are cheap...$5-$6 on ebay....
well, a cassette adapter is better than an FM transmitter.

Yup you do have one connection that you can plug into. Its the cd changer port in the back... Theres an aftermarket harness that connects to a converter which comes with a cable that has 3.5mm tip on the end. This would be your best and actually not to difficult option. If you want to go with the super simple route then yeah cassette adaptor is what is used by many and its actually not that bad. Better than using an fm transmitter.

anybody have any idea on how to play music from the phone through the car? My buddy has an HD2 and all he does is plug it into the car charger and it will play. I tried that with my car charger and it didn't do squat but play it through the phone while charging the phone.
He probably has either blu tooth which you don't need anything to plug into the car (you just need to sync it once) , or he has it plugged in from a 3.5 headphone jack from the car to the phone.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
no he was not using the 3.5 mm jack. He was using his car charger.
Some car chargers have FM adapters built-in. The phone plugs in and is being charged. Meanwhile, the charger connects to the phone either by bluetooth, the "HTC" port or a 3.5mm jack, and transmits the audio to the car stereo by FM.
Here and here are just a couple examples. They come in either cabled (3.5mm) or bluetooth versions. Both would work with a slide as well. With cheap stereos with bluetooth nowadays, it's really a poor solution, especially in cities with lots of FM stations around.
But yeah, it really isn't possible for your friend to "just connect to the charger" and get audio to the radio, unless one of those methods above is what he's using. Either his stereo has bluetooth or his charger transmits over FM.
If your stereo has auxiliary ports(possibly on the back), just get an rca to 3.5mm cable and you're good to go.

Run the 3.5 mm jack out the phone to an amp and bypass the radio
It's just not true that you need bluetooth or an FM transmitter. I have an Alpine MP3 only head unit. It has a USB port and I just connect my Slide to play songs from the SDcard. Maybe he has a similar headunit?

I have a relatively old Pioneer head unit with a 3.5mm jack in the back and just ran a cable. It doesn't charge, but I can plug anything with a headphone jack into it. Most head units nowadays have that in the front, which makes things a lot more convenient. But, I do like the built in USB idea and may get one when I can afford it.
Also kcbboy, depending on the make of your friend's car, it may have a built in USB port that connects to the factory stereo.
Funny, just this weekend I installed my Motorola T-605 bluetooth unit in my car. It does both music (A2DP), handsfree, and has a 3.5mm jack also. I'm thrilled with it cause now I can just hop in the car and hit play - no need to unpocket the phone. The only downside is that it has an external speaker for the handsfree phone part (it won't play via the car speakers,) but I can live with that. (My head unit has line in and a ground-to-mute input, so this worked out well. My wifes car will involve an fm modulator to install her T-605.)

It's true that you can use the phone as a USB Mass Storage device via a USB cable to the headunit. I didn't think of that route, given that the OP's friend "just plugged it into his charger." I haven't seen a charger with a USB passthrough to a headunit yet. I'd love to, though.
double post. sorry.
I use an adapter from PAC audio that has 2 headphone jacks, 1 for a mp3 player, 1 for my sirius receiver.

I just know a lot of people call the USB cable the charger cable too sometimes. It's nice though, I can play them right from the phone with my head unit controls.

Hi guys,
Is there any android media player made for cars - same as the cheap ones for home, but with 12V, ACC connection for power up/shutdown and so it saves its memory like car devices - with HDMI out and NO screen?
Backstory:
I recently installed and removed the AVIN Avant4 PX6 android unit from my E39 M5. I wanted it for carplay and ibusapp - but the quality of the unit was just poor, terribly sound quality even with DSP chip and other various bugs in software.
I ended up removing the AVIN and replacing it with a new Pioneer with HDMI video in. I am now running an android media player with ibus app. It works well (just no touch screen). My question is, what am I losing by not having an accessory wire for the media player?
Currently I have the Resler and media player connected to ACC wire so it turns on/off with the car. The media player loses date when that happens but i turned off the automatic updating of time for the car so that works fine.
I have searched for some cheap external car android with 12V+ , ACC, connection so it can save the memory but havent found anything without a screen, and all the ones with a screen do not have HDMI out.
bump .. anyone?
