Getjar is an application download store just like the Amazon Marketplace and Android Market. The only difference is that they contract with developers to give certain paid apps away for free to the consumer. A lot like the Amazon Free App of the Day.
For each download of a paid app (for free), the developer is reimbursed by Getjar. Getjar, in turn, makes it's money when people click on sponsored Apps for download. The paid apps for free are clearly highlighted in a gold color. The sponsored apps are clearly highlighted in a light blue color (along with the text "Sponsored" beneath the Free button). You do not have to download any sponsored apps to obtain the paid apps for free.
Since the developers are getting paid by Getjar on a per download basis, it's not considered Warez.
Please also note that not all apps on the Getjar website are the full versions for free (there are a lot of the same apps as found in the Market with built-in advertising). Only those developers who agree to Getjar's reimbursement program will have the full version of their apps available for free to the user.
Good example of paid app for free: Glyder 2 by Glu
----
Now if anyone knows where the downloaded apk's are stored (i.e. where is Getjar's cache?) I'd appreciate knowing. Right now, I'm having to back them up with Titanium Root in case they get removed from the Getjar store.
I just want to know that when i download a paid app from getjar.com then can i able to update that app through market or not.

Thanks for the post. Got it installed and was able to get Rio installed too. once in the app you have to set up "one click method" in your amazon account. Guess you can dhis online too on amazon.com as thats where it sends you. But after that is set up you can download apps.
You have to have an account with Amazon and link your phone with your account and turn on the one click purchasing.
I really just wanted Rio. I'll never use their store, they don't make android, they don't make apps, they just want to profit off them. If I'm going to give someone money it's going to be the people who are putting the time, effort, and money into the product I'm purchasing. I played through a couple screens of Rio, it was pretty cool. I then deleted the amazon market and rio wouldn't start again. I'm just going to pay the $.99 from the market and keep the money where it belongs.

Then plug up your atrix to your PC, grab the file and transfer it to your PC. Then run sideload wonder and it will put it on your atrix.

GetJar is giving out 100 paid apps for free. Here is the site to get an idea of what they are offering and the getjar.apk.
Side note: GetJar runs as a service in the background, so what I do is find the app I want, download it and either uninstall or "freeze" it to stop the service from running and eating my data/battery [see my guide for more detail on this].
Have fun and happy downloading (and unlike the Market sale, there are actually some utility/productivity apps included).
GetJar is offering over 100 paid Android apps for free! To compete against Google’s 10 Billion App Downloads promotion and Amazon’s “One Paid App for free everyday“, GetJar has come out with its own offering which is better than both the Google’s official Android market and Amazon’s app market.
Usually when offers like this come about the apps are quite crap, this is not the case with GetJar’s deal. Some notable apps which are being offered for free are Paper Camera, TweetCaster Pro, They Need To Be Fed, Splashtop Remote Desktop and more.
All you have to do to access the free apps is download GetJar for your mobile by hitting this url into your mobile phone browser - m.getjar.com/gold
You can check out all the apps available here - GetJar have very nicely laid out all the apps on a side-scrolling type page.

hmmm Word Up!
Getjar giving away stuff...how novel!
What they do not tell you is that their crappy app runs constantly in the background! Unlike amazon or android market Getjar is a real battery drain!
With our poor vibrants battery life being what it is, I personally would rather keep it "alive" longer for other things than scanning getjars web site for news/files.
If they were to change this detail, then it would be worth revisiting untill then not for me.
Hope this helps!

Nice thing is you can remove it after you get the apps you want and you don't need it to run them.
yeah the app itself runs your battery like water... i dont understand why but i uninstalled it after i saw in 5 minutes my battery decreased 10%
Hence my sidenote in the OP about it running as a background service. I've seen that same drain before on other times I have used it. That is why I usually get what I need and then kick the app to the curb.

Usually not. They do get linked to the Market though; so you'll get an update alert. But when you try to update you'll get a message saying you can't because "you didn't pay for the app." A little annoying; but it's true.
Once in a while it does work though. I think I was able to update Paper Camera a while ago.

Been using it for about 6 months now and there have been some real good apps.
try redownloading the apps once an update is shown in Market.
Sometimes it takes them a while but they do update the versions in GetJar.

https://code.google.com/p/ad-away/
I received an email from Google Play that AdAway was removed due to "Violation of section 4.4 of the Developer Distribution Agreement." Thus, it will never be available on Google Play again. Please switch to F-Droid, the open alternative to Google Play!
Allow app installs from 'unknown sources'
Download https://f-droid.org/FDroid.apk to your device

AdAway is an open source ad blocker for Android using the hosts file. It needs Android >= 2.1 and ROOT access.

Google Removes All Ad-Blocker Apps From Google Play Store
not sure.. there was a good one Adfree.. even thats gone..
something i found here
http://www.heavy.com/regions/2013/03/google-removes-ad-blocker-apps-from-google-play-store/
Google banned all apps that are blocking adverts from Play. Fck google!
Just found out the same by trying to install an ad blocker on my friend's phone.
I would say F-Droid is pretty safe, at least the AdAway author recommends it!
"Don't be evil?"
Rom Toolbox pro still does adblocking, though I'm not sure if it's as good as or better than Adaway or ABP were. Rom Toolbox Pro is absolutely worth the money for any root user anyway.
Google has also sent an email to jrummy, so even that will be taken down soon.
I got a copy a adaway, if anyone wants it lemme know.
Wtf is Google doing ?
Are they tracking users as well ?
ROM Toolbox includes an ad blocker.
Since Adaway is opensource I've compiled it and posted the latest version here.
its newer than what was in the play store.

Really? Nothing is stopping you from side loading apk's outside of the Play Store, and the adblock apps did break Google's TOS.
But you're right, no one likes ads, but how do you think devs earns money? By giving away their hard work for free? Nope.
If you don't like ads, then buy an ad-free version of the app or side load an adblocker and move on.

Of course I'm all for supporting devs, and if am app is worth paying for I will pay for it.
Most of the ads are just crap and not related to other apps, just things like "increase your penis size by 10"
But rules are rules so i have to accept your comment and agree with you. Side loading apps is okay now n then, but can attract bogus apps so users should be cautious.

If you have a rooted phone,
Search a adblock host file here on xda or in a rom you have somewhere and put it manualy with rootexplorer in
/System/etc
Replace the empty existed one
I have a lot of ad block host file on my sdcard and all my rooted phone have it and no ads come on my phone.
All apps on the store just replace/mirror your default host file with a updated one.
But I think it's better to do this manualy, because this host file is very sensistive for network and if you have a bad line in,then a virus or malware could pass.
Or
if it to strong, then you cannot surf on certain site or watch video.
To edit it,
just go on google dash and ads notifier panel,
and copy all network adress, then put them in your edited host file for block it

Have you ever wanted to get an awesome free app from Google Play on the HDX but you just don't have root? Well that is actually easier than you might think at first. I hope this will be useful, personally I use this trick a lot.
1.) Go to the google play store on the web and choose a free app (it only works with free apps)
2.) copy the URL and paste it in the search bar of the following website:
apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/
3.) click generate download link.
4.) choose which app you want to download the apk with.
5.) then click open file, and then hit install.
6.) Play the game!
I use this trick to download stuff that isn't on the Amazon market but is free, like the Buzz launcher and other games. I hope this helped someone, and thanks.

Cool, thanks man.Never thought of that, but I never had an advanced phone- no need. For my uses a nokia brick is good enough.
Or just sideload 1mobile market. no root needed for it to work just for the apps it cna download that need root just like normal playstore it has all the free apps that google play does. I assume its similar to those apk downloaders out there but just does it on the device and in an interface that works well and even allows searching and the like.
