iOS vs webOS - Fascinate General

I have access to BOTH rom sources thanks to cydias host.
Webos? Dead now but still one of the best OS's of all time
iOS? Extremely popular and but webos is better in terms of functionality.
I will only do one or the other.
Get the votes in. Going to decompile the iphone5.0.1.ipsw and do my thang.

Umm, isn't iOS closed source? I think that file your using is just the firmware update, not the actual source code itself :/
I might be mistaken, but I doubt it.

Either you are really drunk or you need a really big hug.

hey, do you think you could port commodore 64 or Atari 2600 OS to the fascinate? that would freakin rock!! this ice cream sandwich stuff is crap..
Atari FTW!!!

I could port webos. But here's a problem. After you install, you wont be able to get back to android for ANY reason. Without source I have to port /sbin directorys from the pre. So that means no recovery. But you could install kernels from unixphysho. But still. I may not do it because of you can get back.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

WebOS would be awesome but unless it could be dual-booted or reverted then no way would I want to use that. And iOS is pretty much impossible to port. If you get either done then more power to ya but it is doubtful. You should use the ICS source release to make us a solid ICS rom.

Along with iOS, i also have web ics in my pants. You could say theres an os party in my pants. Everyones invited!!

Its garbage. Its a proof of concept. We had gingerbread booting on the epic like a day after its release, but not in a functional state. Why completely rebuild an OS when you can take what we have and make it as functional as possible. It would be a waste of dev talents to hand build a Frankenstein gingerbread when there is so much else to work on.

I thought that was illegal. Surely the GPS hardware uses a kernel driver, which must link with the GPL2 licensed Linux kernel. The GPL states that the source for GPS driver must be also released, if it is shipped together.
NVidia/ATI got around this by having users break the law for them - ie: you have to compile an open source shim layer that glues their precompiled binary packages onto the kernel. However, this is not the case with phones. Samsung is shipping the product, so they are responsible for complying with the GPL.
So when can we expect miui and cm7 to get updated?
Would love better battery on miui.

now that the boot loader is unlocked...

Will there eventually be any roms that get rid of the webtop stuff all together? I have played around with it a bit and ultimately found it to be worthless and haven't used it since.
I want vanilla android! It sucks that is so much to ask for in this market. (I had Nexus S but cannot live with t-mo.

Me too. I could care less about CyanogenMod. I want PURE ANDROID!!
I just want my Tegra 2 dual core phone to HANDLE LIVE WALLPAPERS.
I also want the WIFI to work (stopped detecting WiFi altogether)
Will be posible to port any variant of Honeycomb? Honey can handle the DualCore module, is AOSP and has HighRes. I think it will be better than any 2.x.x. Motorola Xoom has a very similar hardware so I don't think that it's imposble, but all you are the genius here

Multicore works perfectly fine in the current version of Android on the Atrix, as well as Gingerbread. Honeycomb will not be backported. Look forward to Ice Cream Sandwich instead, which is the "new hotness" I guess you could say.
If you want better multicore support, look to the app developers to add it into their apps. Android can run multicore but without support in the app, as I understand it, it won't use both cores. I am sure someone else with more knowledge about the underlying structure of Android could shed better light on the subject.
Honestly, where does this misinformation stem from?

GB Update for Epic

Spoke to Reston, VA today. They claim they are still working on the official GB update to the Epic with Samsung. They don't want to have any problems like they had with the Froyo update (according to them- there was a "lag" issue with the rotation on 2.2 OTA update). No date planned as of yet. Please stand by...
As long as its working right when it comes out. Thanks.

Samsung should just give up and let the Epic community work on GB. Give them the source code and I bet they will have a fully functional build of GB within a month.

Challenge accepted! Lol Cupcake on the Evo. Wonder how that would run being that the Evo specs are well above what's needed. I'm assuming, if someone is actually able to get it to boot cupcake, that it would run about as well as running Windows 95 on one of today's typical PC specs.
In regards to the toolbox and apps. Would the flash 11.x work on GB as well? I thought flash stopped at 10.x for GB and 11.x was for 4.x.x (ICS and up).

I think it does run on GB. When I flash a rom I flash this group of app along with it. It shows up in my apps when I boot up but I am not sure of the last time I used any flash on my phone. I usually use my pc for the Internet.
Op has some more info. I will be working on it more over the next few days. This will have apps, tweaks, and tricks. The apps are one part of the toolbox that will start showing up in our roms. They will also be included in a flashable zip for those who are not using our roms. The second part of the toolbox will be exclusive to our roms. It consists of modifications to the installer script that will put a copy of your recovery log into a folder on your sdcard. It will also do a md5sum of the rom you are installing and put that in the folder also.
Remember this is a work in progress so don't expect it to be finished over night.
Peace,
Love, and
Happiness
