3.2 Update Problem US. - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Hey guys just pulled my 3.2 update from Samsung over wifi for my non Verizon 10.1 Tab.
Downloaded the 67Mb file and installed. Halfway through the update got stuck and failed. My about screen now says I have 3.2 but now I cannot connect to any networks and every-time the device boots it says it has failed...
My Tab is bone stock.
Any help?

You can try a factory reset but that will wipe all your data. You can also flash CWM and load a custom ROM.

Might back up in Kies then reset... How do you perform a factory reset?

Settings > Privacy > Factory Reset
Sent from my GT-P7510

ill have the update in my thread soon.

Try setting your network preferences to Static IP and enter all the data that shows gray below. I was able to connect after setting a static IP. I'm on with Samsung support now.

Just updated my Tab. Asks me to update firmware through Kies.
I also can't connect to Wifi.... it's always trying to Acquire IP Address.
And Kies isn't recognizing my Tab, so I cannot connect to my computer to do the firmware update.

Also, screen auto-rotation doesn't work anymore....

Same here. No wiring and auto rotate broken. Nice Samsung. Regretting trading my Transformer for this.

+1 Don't Update.
Samsung support confirmed to me that it is the 3.2 update. Wants me to back up everything and do a "Factory Reset". Not holding my breath that this will fix it. I can get internet if I set up a static IP.
Here's hoping for a quick patch.

Problem is, I don't know if it's the same thing for you, but since I updated Kies 2 days ago, it won't even recognize the Tab... So I can't even back up...

Update went well via Kies
It took a while but I was able to successfully update my USA 10.1 wifi tablet via Kies.
I pretty much left it alone and let it install the update by itself.
I do not have any broken wifi and all settings and applications remains the same.
One excellent feature so far is the browser. It is faster and more stable. Web pages loads in the desktop mode by default. I can finally watch HBO GO with messing with the browser uastring. Good job Samsung.

Do the web pages load any quicker than before the update?

For me it does. I tested it by opening up multiple pages in the browser at the same time.
All the web pages loaded without any issues. Before the update, the browser would freeze and some sites would not load at all. HBO GO still buffers at start up but then everything plays quite well.

How did you get Kies to recognize the Tab? What version of Kies do you have?
I am running 1.0.2.1112_3_1 for Mac.

I am not sure why you are unable to update via Kies. If you have the latest version and you connect to your PC via usb connection and launch Kies, and it recognizes your device, it should notify you that there is a firmware update. It is a long process but if you leave it alone it will install itself.

Will the Kies update wipe your device?

Can't upgrade firmware using KIES

I have the newest version of KIES
It connects fine but disconnects when trying to upgrade (look at the third picture at the bottom right corner)
Is it because I'm in the united states?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Try a different USB port. Preferably directly on the motherboard.
what's new in the new firmware?
Hopefully a more compatible modem for wider areas. My H+ is what my HSDPA was on my Captivate.
Seriously, what is up with this POS KIES program? My phone is connected then once I start the upgrade, the connection is lost. WTF???
I've been googling this issue for an hour.

Usually your PC /AV/Firewall .

guys I think this is because he is in the states. Its obvious Samsung's servers aren't ready for them it isn't even out yet. Hack reg kies or flash Odin. However it is only minor fixes. Swype + little connectivity issues and auto brightness fix. Unless you use them regularly I wouldn't worry about it.

I have the same problem. Am in the UK. Trying to do it officially. Only had the phone a couple of days. The handset says it is connected but Kies goes round and round incirclesoffering me he upgraqde, backing up everything and then sayig it is disconnected. Help!
Read the thread, the OP has been helped.
I see alternative ways outside of Kies for doing things, but nothing that covers why the 'proper' way of doing things doesn't work for some of us.
Oh well, it's proper enough for the official service centres to use that where it came from.
In case it helps anyone else, a combination of uninstalling Kies, reinstalling and using a different USB port [on a laptop, so they are all on the motherboard] appeared to do the trick for me, though I have no idea why that should be.

thanks for your advise i was trying to update my sgs2 ke2 version and i had same problem than i tried an usb on the motherboard finally it works
I have got the same problem as the OP while trying to update the firmware of my galaxy s II. I tried everything from reinstalling kies to running it as an administrator and I even connected to every usb port on my laptop. The same thing happens: When i click skip backup and start to download the update, the connection is immediately lost (as shown in the SS of OP).
I haven t tried ODIN yet, and would rly like to update my phone with kies and use odin as my last resort since I m not a techie.
I also disabled the anti-virus and also tried to update my phone in flight mode without any success :/ I should also mention that my kies is somewhat ****ed up as sometimes it keeps connecting to my device. To solve the problem i have to uninstall the drivers of my phone from the pc and reinstall the device automatically once i plug it in the pc. After that kies connects automatically to my device.
Somebody else is experiencing the same problem and managed to solve it? Any help would be appreciated Thanks
I can't Kies to work at all. It detects my phone and has presented the firmware upgrade dialog couple times but the upgrade always fails before starting. I've disabled my firewall (Windows Firewall) and anti-virus (Security Essentials) to no avail. Backup also never works, it just says "Preparing..." forever. There seems to be no way to trigger the update manually (rightclicking on GT-I9100 shows firmware upgrade item as disabled).

Galaxy Tab 10.1 LE (Google I/O) Android 3.1 update is out!

Thanks to Samsung for the prompt update! Thanks to Google for the free tablet!
To update, just go to Settings->About Tablet->Software Update->Check for Updates.
If you don't have a Samsung account, you will have to create one. I'm in the US, but there wasn't a choice for that so I chose UK and it worked just fine.
It will download the update and reboot to install it. The download is pretty quick, but the update takes quite a while to apply. Once it gets to about 73% complete or so, the update inches along very slowly. So just be patient.
After the update, the lock screen background is different but all my settings were preserved.
About tablet (after upgrade):
Android version: 3.1
Kernel: 2.6.36.3
Build: HMJ37.UEKF3 P7510UEKF3
EDIT:
- The upgrade does not make you loose root access. This tablet really is a dream for developers.
- I don't see any evidence of any TouchWiz components anywhere. It still appears to be stock.
- Since this is a WiFi tablet, there's still no access to the Android Video Store (plus I'm rooted). Supposedly that is only enabled on 3G tablets for some reason. Oh well, who cares.
Have fun!
Hi, has it got the awful touchwiz built in or is it still "vanilla" android?
My thanks, like you, to samsung for the update and the tab
I have rooted my IO tab and froze some of the samsung system apps with titanium backup. I'm hesitant to update until I get some more information.
I don't think if touchwiz is ready yet. It will be updated later...
Does this break root or CW recovery? Or can you boot into fastboot after the update?

Same here, rooted, apps frozen with TB.... not at all worried at the quality of 3.1 update versus 3.0.1 delivered on the tab at IO but would have to fall on my ceremonial sword if I updated and ruined a lovely piece of kit by subjecting it to touchwiz... More than my honour could handle
No disrespect but not interested in comments repeating ill informed speculation from" uninformed" blogs, just want a straight answer, so if you are still online ageitgey can you tell us yes or no as regards TW - thanks
Thanks a ton!
Downloading as we speak.
There is no sign of TouchWiz in 3.1. It looks completely the same as before, except minor differences (new lock screen background, slightly different wifi icon, etc).
Root was preserved after my upgrade. RootExplorer still works fine and was granted root permissions.
I didn't have Titanium installed, so I can't comment on that. But I doubt there would be an issue.
anybody else having issues updating?
I am getting
"Failed to update firmware. Try again useing PC software (Kies) or visit a Samsung service centre."
not really sure what to do from here.
Concur, no sign of touchwiz, root preserved, titanium works fine. Bizarrely background color of text box when writing this has changed from white to blue and font is dark blue. Apps seem to work ok.
Well report other changes as and when found
onovich, you are not alone. I get the same thing.

Kies says that "This version of the device cannot be updated".
OTA update doesn't work because I've rooted the ROM and installed busybox.
Probably after reverting to stock ROM via Odin OTA update will work?
Updated here, not too many changes noticeable to the end user. Wonder about USB Host - I suppose we need an adapter of some kind because of Samsung's proprietary 30pin port?
so whats the official word on updating
will it work if you are rooted , or unlocked bootloader, or both

IO Tab - System Update to 3.1 - Connection Failed

I can't seem to get my update to go for anything. Not rooted, no custom recovery etc.
Went to check for the update, picked UK, made a Samsung account etc. It tries to connect then I just get "Connection Failed" after it told me an update is required.
Is anyone else having this issue?

same here. sometimes you get the feeling that its your tab doing this but I guess its total server failure.

so we DO have to re-do the root process once we apply the update via OTA ? Dammit.

Cannot connect go Kies to update to ICS???

Hi all.. I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 gt p7500 one month old, and I saw that there is finally an update to ICS. I still dont got it try mobile netowork (t-mobile - Macedonia), so i read that I can update thru kies. The problem is, I cannot connect mu tab to kies??? I dont have an USB option on Wireless and Networks and it connects in MTP mode. Is there any way to fix this problem and if not, how can I update my tablet to stock version of ICS in some other way? Please help...
Regards
It sucks that kies won't work now that ics is out. I'm having trouble updating mine as well.
Kies is not a product
I have tried for almost a year now to get my tab recognised by Kies, but only a factory reset will get Kies to recognise my tablet. The moment I install my own software on it again that disappears.
Kies via Wifi has no firmware upgrade option, sad to say, so best wait for OTA upgrade.
I am waiting too for the OTA as that POS named Kies is not working for me. But it is coming, just be a little more patient. It is rolling out in the US, maybe even in Canada. The rest of Europe will follow, or you can download from samfirmware.com, and do it over USB via Odin (lots of threads covering that)...
Best of luck!
I did a reset in anticipation of the update and was able to do the update through Kies
with no problem.
I had 2 Galaxy 10.1, one of them could only connect wireless for update, not with Kies, the other one could not update OTA, only with Kies... and to connect I had to reset the device, Kies is really worth nothing...
One of the reasons why I am only using custom ROM
I fought with it for a couple hours last night, and finally resorted to a factory wipe. Then it was fine. Just means a few hours of reinstalling and configuring widgets, but still annoying as hell that after 2 years Kies doesn't work with 3.2 stock rom.

It's far worse: I could never connect to Kies. One day I just wanted to test connecting to Kies, so I did a Backup with Titanium Backup and then a factory reset. Thereafter I could connect without any issues. So I restored all settings - user and system data with everything! - from my TB and expected not to be able to connect after doing that. But oh wonder! I still could connect to Kies!
But about a week later it was again like before: No connection to Kies :silly: That was the last time I started the software on my PC :cyclops:
After the update, and after I updated the apps that are included with the tab, and after I reinstalled all of my apps,
I tied Kies again. Tab connected wih no problems.
Looks like that's one of the things fixed in ICS.
From what I gathered from the internet and other forums the problem with Kies apparetly is that if there is a file with a filename that kies doesn't like, it won't connect. The big problem is find that file or files

That is my understanding too. But when I remove all non-essential files (i.e. "personal" files) from the system it still did not work... So it must be one of the files related to a product.
To find out which one (or which ones...) will take a lot of time, and I do not want to spend that much time on a POS product like Kies... So for now I will wait for the OTA update, or the end of August 2012, whatever comes first. If it still is not there at the end of this month I will go to one of the custom ROMs, and never look back.
XDA is no longer worth my time.

That IS an interesting concept. Never thought that might work. I have given up, surrendered to Kies, reset the GTab, got Kies working, but alas, no update here in Canuck Territory... So all for naught!
I will try your approach on the other GTabs I've got...
Thanks for the tip!
-- EDIT --
Guess what? When running Firmware upgrade and initialization I get the message: "'GT-P7510' does not support initializing."
And that is all I can do, no upgrade via that path possible...
I did a factory data reset and upgraded to ICS via wi-fi. And my 7510 was still rooted

I use this metod on all my samsung devices. Unfortunetly there is not avalable software for S4 as of now on samsung servers. We need to wait and i think developers will get faster then samsung stock software.
You can use Kies to restore you software. I just check and they added galaxy S4 firmware to server. Here is how : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984717

Your method works the best!!! On the S4 though, plug in the phone and then start the firmware restore....
Awesome! This was extremely easy to do. Once Kies was connected, the only thing I had to do was tell it to update the firmware. I didn't have to give it my serial or model number or put my phone in "download" mode or anything. It took care of all of that automatically.
Here's a link to the desktop Kies client. You can simply use the USB cable, you don't even have to run Kies on your phone for it to work.
ht tp: //ww w.samsung. com/us/kies/
I accidently deleted touchwiz before I installed another launcher, and it apparently didn't like that very much. Even a hard reset didn't straighten it out, but this did the trick! It does look like I'm going to have to re-root it though.
Also, wiping it appears to have smoothed a lot of the lag out. It's still not 100% perfect, but it does seem quite a bit smoother, and it appears to have completely taken care of the super-lag that was being caused by the keyboard in landscape mode.
I'll try to document everything I install or change, to see if there's something that triggers the lag. Hopefully it will just stay this way.
So glad it helped you out! All thanks to Norbarb for the method and idea.....
