Warranty implications for imported Note - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

I'm looking to buy a Note pretty soon and since it looks like there won't be an official release in the USA any time soon it looks like I'l have to import one. My major concern with this is what to do if there is a problem and want to return it. I see that some appear to have issues with the display and with any new device there's always the concern that they haven't got all the bugs worked out so being an early adopter caries with it some defect risks. So, what's the deal with importing from Germany or the UK and are there any sellers to stay away from or prefer?
Thanks,
Brian

same concern here. i am really close to buying from either from clove or handtech, both UK retailers. do they provide any kind of warranty/satisfaction guarantee? also, what about the manufacturer warrany? do these brand new phones not come with a Samsung warranty? thx

They are EU phones so come with a Samsung 2 year international warranty which doesn't include the US. Handtec and I'm sure probably Clove as well cover the phone for the full 2 years. If you need warranty service you ship it back to them in the UK and they handle the repair through Samsung for you.

Hello,
I am also looking for note and my condition is same they don't provide any manufacturer warranty.
So I am concerned about the quality, I also doubt that it could be refurbished or korean copy of the cell phone
Sellers are saying that the import it from Indonesia. Also they are saying that its genuine and will connect via samsung Kies as well so I am thinking to go for it.
What will you suggest?
Buy the way did you purchased the cell?
Thanks

purchased a softbank

I recently purcahsed a supposedly unlocked "new" softbank x01ht. I know it can't be new because to unlock it they would have to mess with it out of the box. I e-mailed the seller and he assured me it was unlocked and the OS was in english. I also found some other posts on this board questioning the legitimacy of these cheaper unlocked softbank phones. I'll give an update on whether its legit or not when it arrives on monday.
Just want to know if there are any American users of these softbank phones? Especially in California? Are there any issues with this phone on the t-mobile network? I am pretty new to the pocket pc/phone scene. I read through the FAQ on the wiki I just have a few more questions:
1. What exactly is the radioROM. Is it part of the main ROM or a separate ROM?
2. Is it safe to assume all HTC Hermes model phones are pretty much the same hardware wise and just differ in cosmetics? So if I load a HTC ROM on my softbank, it pretty much is a HTC phone in function?
daemonk, i tried my best to find out what are these devices' S/Ns, that seller didn't answer, would you tell us what is the S/N when it arrived?
sure. I bought mine on ebay btw. There was a thread previously on the same seller. The shipping tracking says its being shipped from Hong Kong.

I purchased one from them also. The Serial number starts with HT638 and it came with a dopod rom installed and bootloader 1.04. It was shipped to the US from Hong Kong overnight.
I am returning it because it came with one dead pixel on the screen. They say that the return time takes 14 days and they gave me a return address in Bellevue, WA.
Hope this info helps anyone.
wow that makes me feel a lot better knowing its not a scam. I hope mine comes with no dead pixels.

Yes there are quite a few Softbanks in HK. Street price selling just under US$500. Official Dopod selling almost US$800 in HK.

softbank sells phone devices with their brand name only in japan. i presume any softbank devices sold their should be the ones sold through any illegal channels. no one can justify the $300 difference on the price tags if dodpod and sofbank sold there are both from the legal channels.

They're not "illegal". We call them parallel import. But then for the $300 difference, we don't have any customer service and we're on our own if the Softbank goes silly. See, if they can make a profit at $500, then the street retail in Japan should be around $400. Good deal for such a device!

whatever you name it, they are not shipped there through the proper softbank channel.
there are those in japan buying them from softbank with the contract and personally exporting them unused to elsewhere after canceling the contract, but that will not work anymore with the ones shipped with the new rom after Dec 2 as nobody so far including pof has been able to unlock it.
if any unlocked ones are still flowing through from elsewhere, it could be from factory level and that is definitely through any illegal channels as htc should ristric that.

Let me know when yours arrives. I am curious about a couple things...
1. Does it have any bad pixels?
2. Does it have a Dopod rom and 1.04 bootloader?
I hope my replacement does not come with the 1.09 bootloader.
Since these come unlocked with the Dopod rom installed, then I would guess that I should be ok with my replacement when it comes.

i'm surprised if it comes with the bootloader 1.09. the bootloader 1.09 checks the cid and it won't let you flash the dopod rom on softbank device. you cannot unlock softbank x01ht that comes with the new rom with the bootloader 1.09. if it comes unlocked with the dopod rom, the bootloader cannot be 1.09.
alright just got my softbank phone in. From the looks of it, everything looks legit. I want to charge it fully before I turn it on so I'll post on the ROM version and stuff tomorrow. The manual is in Japanese as I expected, so how long do I need to charge this thing for the first time?
The S/N is HTC638XXX btw.
okay so mine is basically just like Freshter's. It has the dopod rom and 1.06 bootloader. No dead pixels .
So I guess the guy is legit? I havn't really had enough time to play around with it to notice anything wrong so I may not be the best authority on it.
The guy I bought it from on ebay is selling 5 more apparently.

It seems that yours came with bootloader 1.06 while mine came with 1.04.
I just sent mine back today for replacement because of the dead pixel.
The seller has been very responsive to me, but it is a shame that I have to wait 14 days or more to get a new one.
I'll let you all know the specs of my new one when it comes in.

Well, I finally received my replacement X01HT yesterday after a month of waiting.
As promised, here are the specs:
X01HT (HERM200) with Dopod ROM
Bootloader: 1.04
ROM Version: 1.23.707.4
ROM Date: 07/21/06
Radio Version: 1.14.00.10
Protocol version: 32.50.7018.00H
One other thing that I noticed was that the first one I received (and returned) had the part number 99HCE045-00 XT01.
This new one I received yesterday has the part number 99HCE045-00 XT02.
Does anyone know what the difference is between XT01 and XT02?
Edit: Also wanted to mention that the new one has a serial number starting with HT647...
Can you help ?

Also, where you ever able to update the ROM????
Any answers can be a great help.
I buy one from pcmonde on amazon and work very well.

I don't understand your logic. Unless it has been "stolen", it is as legal as it can be.
i'm new to the xda scene but i am awaiting a recently ordered softbank x01ht that a 3rd party rogers dealer has ordered for me from an authorized dealer in vancouver. this comes with waranty and all for about $570. it comes locked and in japanese as i was told by the person introducing me to person ordering.

Australian buying HTC Touch HD

For Aussies who are looking to buy HTC Touch HD, you might like to know that a Melbourne based ebayer is now selling it bundled with TomTom6 and 8GB MicroSDHC card.
We also get local warranty for buying it here.
I just won one at about AUD1225, after being unsuccesful in the first attempt (the winning bid was AUD1250). All prices are inclusive of GST.
I thought it is not a bad deal. With the current exchange rate, it actually works out to be cheaper than importing from expansys Singapore assuming we can escape import duty. Depend on the exchage rate, it is quite close to importing to UK.
A couple of sellers are offering to let you buy it without bidding at about AUD 1350, also with TT6 (full license with latest Aussie Map) included.
I thought some of us here might be interested in this info.
Cheers.
thansk for yours info

I think that depends on your conversion rate that your credit card charges you.
The key reasons I bought it here was, at worst there is no significant difference in price (Many actually bidded successfully at got it at lower price than I did), you are assured GST is already included, hence no more import duty, local warranty, and inclusion of Tom Tom 6 (legit copy).
Are you sure you get better than that?
I bought one on the Buy it Now option for $1299. Mainly because he has TomTom with AU maps included. Many others are removing the 8Gb card, some even adding a 2Gb card as an offer having taken the 8Gb out!
I bet you were the bugger who outbid me for the 1225 one! ;-)

Actually, those who bidded later got it a lower price.
We should have conspire and bidded one at a time, then all of us would have got it for 2.50

Well the phone you bought was not Australian stock. Either was mine but i know that. The guy you bought it from basically imported it and is now selling it for a premium. The way i purchased my handset is cutting that middle man out. And since it is not Australian stock it would be interesting to see how this "local warranty" will work out for you. My handset came to under $1000 so i had no gst or import tax. And i have tom tom 7 already so 6 doesn't really appeal to me

Okay, of course, all stocks came from China ultimately. HTC is a Taiwanese company which had manufacturing plants in China. So is Iphone for that matter. IPhone is manufacutred in China by Foxconn, which is another Taiwanese company with factory in China.
Everyone imports and sell for profit. You have paid a differet middleman by buying from Europe, that's all. Unless you buy directly from HTC China, you will have middleman.
I get your point regarding the so called local warranty, though. I hope HTC Australia honor it. If not, this guy might be just be paying for my freight to HTC Hong Kong for servicing I guess.
Have you received your credit card statement, or check it online to find out the conversion rate yet? Usually credit card company's rate is highly unfavourable, so am just curious what did they charge you with.
You're right about TT6. I'm not going to use it either.

Well all up once shipping was paid for i believe it was just under the $1100 mark. I highly doubt that htc will honour that warranty which is why i suggest you contact them asap. Even if my warranty isn't honoured in Austrlia i have a 2 year manufacturer warranty with a store i can send the handset back to. If i need to send it back of course i will pay the cost which is unfortunate. BUT, it is better than having no warranty and no place to send it back to.
i did what davecash did and got mine from Handtec
my credit card came up at AUD$1081
very happy with it so far, exactly what i need for my use. now just gotta suss out some tweaks :-D
Your credit card amount will be an uncertainty especially in this highly volatile time. At the time when I looked at it, I would be paying more than you guys if I had bought it from Handtec.
Another uncertainty was the import duty. Because the amount was bordering around 1000, it may be slightly more than 1000 or slightly less. I would have to live with the possibility of an import duty.
So I decided to bid because I would know for sure what I was going to pay, whereas getting from Handtec I did not know at what exchange rate I would be hit with, and if I would have to pay import duty.
Another thing to bear in mind is, just because you guys paid that amount is no guarentee that another person will be able to get that exchage rate. You know very well that AUssie currency is sliding downward these days.
So, I bidded in ebay.com.au.
I realised that I was impatient and bidded a little higher. This guy got it for much less at AUD1176
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=250324322216
If you're able buying for business, there is also the benefit of the 10% GST input tax that you can offset, I think.
This seller advertised himself as operating in Melbourne, and I made a call to Melbourne, and there was a person there speaking to me. So...
I guess that shop might not be around when I need the warranty, but that would be just the same for Handtec I guess.
So, for all who are buying, weigh all the pros and cons and decide for yourself what you think is the best.
Cheers.
I was bidding on some of those phones too. But was outbid at $1200 at the last moment.
I wound up paying full price.
However, I don't mind as it has local warranty, and given my past experiences with smart phones, that is a must. I can also claim GST, and at today's exchange rate, it would be over the magic $1,000 mark if imported directly.

I get $2000 a year for mobile phone purchase (I own) ontop of my pay packet. The Sony Experia X1 was rolled over to a Director who wanted it after we finished testing it, his Audi Q7 wouldn't sync correctly using bluetooth with Touch Pro (the X1 syncs perfectly). Never had a problem with HTC's phone and my BMW.
My departments budget includes funding to buy, test and use (or not) mobile phones that we believe may be usable within our organisation.

Lucky you, mate. How does Mobicity do the warranty? Do they have to send it overseas or whill HTC Australia do it?
I bought my HD for $1050 total from handtec but that’s no longer possible with the current exchange rate and handtec's price increase.
Note that if you buy it from a "local" seller and need to send it back for warranty, it is highly likely that they will have to send it back overseas to get your phone fixed/replaced. It's not like they stock up on it and can just give you a replacement sent via express post nor can they send it to HTC Australia. That could result in an unfavorable turnaround time.
Regardless, if you want the phone go buy it because once you have it the price is all forgotten. Don't worry about how much you paid or what others got it for and just enjoy the phone.

Your email was from a Mary? She told me that her stock has already been all returned to her supplier because the 8GB MicroSDHC and user manual are missing and she has sourced for the unit from another supplier but the stock are yet to arrive. So she currently has no stock. The stock is shipped out of Hong Kong, and not Sydney. Seems that everyone in Australia is advertising that they have stock, then ship the item out of Hong Kong.
I cancelled my order from the last one I ordered 10 days after payment (supposed to arrive from Melbourne 1-2 days after payment). He has has the wrong stock being returned to his supplier story. But I got the full refund.

Galaxy Note in stock at Clove.co.uk!

Clove have just Tweeted that they have received stock of official UK Galaxy Notes.
Nearly £600 though :/
http://www.clove.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-note
I think I'll wait till people start selling unwanted network upgrades on Fleabay!
You can slice £100 off that figure by buying from amazon.de. Should come to under £500 (£493 at the last count) including VAT and delivery to the UK. Price has been dropping a little, day by day, this week.
Handtec have it for £540, but I have a feeling it's the EU model that you could get from amazon.de for less money.
Clove should rename to expensive.co.uk or greedys.co.uk

When you know a thing or two about Handtek and then compare it to Clove you then realize why there is a price difference.
CLove could sell phones from overseas (grey-imports) but that then opens up all manner of problems.

Yes, this is excellent news.
I did quite a bit of searching around for a protective cover for the Note and couldn't find a thing.
Nice to see the one coming from Clove has a flip cover for both the back and screen.
I've just check the delivery status of my Note and it is on it's way and I should get it tomorrow. I cannot wait to try out all the new and exciting features.

Depends on what your concerns are so please come back if you wish a better answer.
If it is to do with warranties, well phones will have to be shipped back to where you purchased from. This can be awkward, you have to read the warranty card that comes with the phone.
Registering the phone on the Samsung web site may be an issue.
Your best bet is to read the Samsung Warranty web pages which can be found here.

[Q] Need to buy a SM9005 from Amazon, importing to India

Hi there guys,
Hope you all are having a good day.
So the thing is that I decided on getting myself a Note 3 (the international version). I sought the add out on Amazon and will be purchasing it soon.
Could someone who has an idea about the import tell me as to how much will the final price be that I have to pay after the custom clearance? I really need to know this before buying it. The on-shelf price of the Note 3 on the website is $705 and the seller is 'mygsmstore'.
It would be a great help. I can't ask questions on the website as I haven't yet bought anything from amazon.
Hi there,
I am also trying for the same. if you refer to my question here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47783662, I am trying to get this from Expansys.
Let me know if you are interested and/or want to pursue this!
Thanks,
Ckhurana
Even I was thinking of the same, however there are quite a few problems.
1. How good is the retailer. As we will lose all warranty since its a USA product. So we need to be pretty sure of genuineness of the product.
2. Customs is quite tricky. I have searched and could barely find a convincing answer about the customs aspect on importing the phone
3. Region Locking- Samsung region locks the device. i.e. if we get it from USA, how will we get a US sim to unlock it.
Would be glad if some community member can help us.

Even I was thinking of the same, however there are quite a few problems.

why dont you buy from Ebay.in, i know most of the people dont prefer ebay but still its in Endia so you wont be having serious problems with the dealer or the product.

is that so well as i recall it i could see a number of sellers who directly import unused and unopened Note 3 from the US, only extra cost which the customer may need to pay is OCTROI if applicable.

Hi,
I see that you have ordered note3 N9005, even I am planning to buy one from US. But there are two main concerns, first, is this a genuine Samsung phone? Second, about region lock policy of Samsung.
So, please let me know did you face any region lock problem and how is your phone working so far (could you check your phone with android app which verify the originality of Samsung phone). If your phone is good, I can order from the same seller.

Is there any quality difference fi you buy form a chinesse retailer?

I'm currently interested in buying a oneplus two and the official site says that they don't deliver to my country, so i'm thinking of buying one from a chinesse retailer like gearbest.
A friend told me that if you buy form a chinesse retailer they may not be the same quality as if you would buy it from the official site, any thoughts on this?
he also said that they come whit more bloatware and there's a higher chance of getting one with overheating problems. I'm thinking they might have different hardware revisions.
Nope. I'm from germany and bought the Oneplus2 (A20003) from Geekbuying. It took some time to ship it because it were very asked but it is actually working good and seems to be a good one.
No quality problems!
I think if you buy from chinese retailer it may be running Hydrogen OS instead of Oxygen OS
I am use the oneplus two in china
I am using the oneplus two in china.just now, it is fine, and I love it .and I think the hardware revisionsis the same with the phone outbound
