Hi all, my Note cannot connect to Kies....which after I checked with the internet is a very conman problem for Galaxy. I still want to make it works and I have some questions if anyone can help....Thanks in advance!
1) I checked some web site that to connect with Kies in computer (mine is Win7 64 bits) that we should first go to the phone's Setting-->About phone-->USB connect-->connect with Kies....... However in my Note there is no such setting in About Phone and I checked all areas in Setting but there is no USB connect-->Kies....... where is it?
2) Although I cannot connect with Kies at my computer but I can still use MTP connection is that all with Note?
3) If I cannot connect with Kies do I still get update from Samsung? I noticed that in my phone setting--> about phone section, there is one are that can click in to check updates, so what should I do?
Thanks again everyone....
Kies will not connect to 7" Tab, Galaxy S or Galaxy Note on my 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate system. Have tried older versions, latest version, Repairing and numerous drivers as there are posts elsewhere of 64bit driver issues. Works fine in MTP mode and Kies Air.
Have no such problems on XP professional.
Glad I am not the only one but it seems to be a Kies problem rather than the phones/tablets.
Any help would be appreciated by those of us suffering!

The USB connection utilities are under Wireless and Networking, however chances are your Kies issue is because you have USB Debugging turned on.

No - it's off - as I said, it works fine with all three Samsungs on my XP Pro machine but not on Win7 64bit machine. However, ADB works fine on both machines so I'm pretty sure that it's a problem Kies has with a driver.

ah good to know win7 ult 64 doesn't support it, that explains a few things. But why isn't total commander copying and pasting to it. ?
My 7" tab can connect to kies running on a 64 bit win 7 ultimate and home basic without any issues.

My SGS connect on my 64bit Win7, not ultimate though. I can remember that it couldn't connect at first, I think I had to change the USB Settings. Give it a try

Am from Hong Kong....may be is the WIN 64 bit problem, I am using Win 7 professional not ultimate, and will continue test it, may be DL Kies from UK....
BTW what funny is that I send this problem to Samsung all they said is to reset the machine to factory default and try..... guess not much help....
Connected fine on my win7 64bit ultimate. Must be some other issue. Impressed with the functionality

I agree with post #8, had same problem, phone unlocked from UK, downloaded Kies from UK samsung site and no problems on Windows 7, 64 bit. Try download from different Samsung site.
are you using any other launcher? Tried on my wife's phone the other day (different phone). It only connects when the phone is in the Samsung Launcher with every apps closed.
64 bit fine. I had a similar issue until I saw one blog article that said "once USB debugging is off *kill all tasks*" - did that and it worked fine.
Have to say, the concept of Kies for firmware upgrades works really well (as a piece of consumer software) though, as a colleague said, you can see why they are in hot water with Apple - it's a direct rip of iTunes!

Yep, I hate both with a passion
Won't run at all !
Kies UK won't run at all. I immediately get "Kies has stopped working" The phone shows up fine in Explorer. I'm Windows 7 64 bit.
I tried :
Uninstall from Device Manager then reinstall.
Install as Administrator.
Uninstalled Windows Mobile Device Manage
I tired every Kies thread Google showed. 5 hours so far.

I got likewise. Think it was related to the USB drivers. Worth making sure USB debugging is off and the phone pops "MTP connection"* in the title bar prior to trying to run Kies.
My anti-virus also affected it. If you run, turn it off prior to installation - if you've already installed, turn it off and to a Repair (Change) from Add/Remove programs.
Win 7 Home Premium X64 plus UK Kies plus German Note = success for me. No drama, no hoops, no fiddling with antivirus or firewall settings. Easy peasy.
The only issue was needing to disable USB debugging on the phone, which was not made at all clear in the message issued by Kies.
Windows 7 64-bit home premium, no problems with this or the sgsii....

NO luck on my iMac
So i tried my laptop with windows 7, when i connected the Note it had to update several things. That took a while, and i ahd an update from Kies. After all that it said immediately that there was an update for my Note with a few improvements. I bought mine in The Hague in The Netherlands, but it is a German version. He is stil busy as we speak, at 99%
It started working for me on win7 64bit after I unchecked USB debugging under applications-->USB debugging. If memory serves I had the same problem on SGS.

Hello all, just want to thank all the hard workers associated with the collaboration this site has produced. I am a noon, the plan is use different developers products, then if I have a successfully optimized phone, donate. So far, I have successfully installed ota dl09, Then supah clean and voodoo 5. Almost everything works except PDAnet, I'm extremely excited about my performance so far. Any suggestions on why PDAnet doesn't work on my PC? The phone indicates its working, the PC doesn't recognize a modem connected to it. Tried reinstalling everything, no go.

You have to have the samsung drivers installed on your PC in order for it to recognize your phone, been there done that.
Installed latest drivers, PC indicates phone is connected, when I click connect on the pdanet icon in the tray I get a message to make sure phone is connected. Debugging is on, pdanet indicates its working.

I could never get PDANet to work. I always use EasyTether.
TYVM, will try it
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
PDANet needs several things to work:
1) You need PDANet installed on your smartphone, and running in USB mode (Bluetooth bottlenecks the bandwidth from a strong 3G connection).
2) PDANet installed and running on your PC (same software version as what you have on your phone)
3) Samsung Fascinate USB drivers on your PC.
4) Phone is running in USB Debugging mode. I suspect this might be what is missing for you.
Hope this helps.
Today there was a new KIES update and it seems that there will be a wireless connection to it... but how?
i think the touchwiz update will have the capabilities for the wireless Kies... did you get the touchwize update? where did you get this Kies update?
What software do you use on windows to connect to kies?
For the first time I was able to connect with Kies. USB connection never worked. I am able now to sync contacts and memo and calendar.

I installed Kies 2.0 on a Windows 7 machine and was able to connect via wifi after the TW update, but the version of Kies they currently have for the Mac does not work. Just for some fun, I contacted Samsung chat support and the Rep told me that Kies isn't even made for Windows! And that "kies wifi" just means you can connect via a USB cable while your on a wifi network! That's some top notch support.

WOW LOL
Just for the yet-to-be-informed, you have to have the latest Kies installed on your PC and the TouchWiz update on your Samsung tablet. Run Kies on the PC. Then go into settings/Wireless and Networks/Kies via Wi-Fi on the tablet. Pick your PC from the listed devices. Once you've connected the first time, you probably won't need to have Kies open before you initiate the connection on your tablet. Kies will leave a little behind to watch for the connection, then open up.
I have it working well, except that Kies freezes up occassionally. My PC runs Windows 7 64bit.

I tried doing that and the Tab 10.1 doesn't find my computer on the same WiFi - it just says No Devices after scanning.
I've disabled my firewall on my laptop just in case, but still no luck. Any ideas? Thx

Just keep trying. Mine didn't see the PC at first, but found it on the second try. My PC is wired on my network, with tab using WiFi from the same router. Not sure your PC can be connected to the internet via WiFi and still connect to the Tab via the same WiFi. Seems like it "should" work, but that may be one roadblock. Working fine on my system. I have a notebook PC arriving tomorrow or the next day and I'll put Keis on it to see if I have the same luck.
I feel dumb for asking this but what is kies? What does it do? Is this a samsung only thing?
its like a samsung itunes.

Yeah, though not as bloated or laggy ... but I was hoping for plex like media streaming capabilities, but sadly not supported ...
Found a way around it. All I needed to do is connect my Galaxy Tab 10.1 through the usb cable first, and then Kies would recognize it through WiFi afterwards. I guess the Laptop and Tab needed to meet each other through USB first.
kies does not see it or something, it keeps telling me to disconnect and reconnect, this is when i try to do with usb. when i press kies via wifi on tablet icon, screen gets a gray hue over it and does nothign...
I have it working with my Wifi 10.1- and I'm using Win7 in a VirtualBox window on my Ubuntu machine. The one thing that kies won't do is copy arbitrary files to my SGT. What a pain!!
There is a workaround- add the ".pdf" extension to the end of your file name (foo.apk.pdf) then you can do a single file copy to the SGT. Kies does a great job of playing gatekeeper so that you don't put anything harmful on your SGT. Heaven forbid you might root it or something.

I have the opposite problem, I can connect to it via wifi but when I connect USB kies does not recognize it.
Unfortunately Kies became useless as in the new version they dropped the ability to synchronize with Outlook!

I had this same problem. Could connect fine via USB but nothing happened when trying to connect via Wi-Fi other than the tablet's screen graying out. After doing a factory reset it's now working for me.
Finally have wifi file transfer
My MAC with lion would not connect to the 10.1 wireless or USB. Today on PC World they had an App WIFI File Explorer. Free download crippled and $1.60 Pro version. It is in the Market & Amazon.
I have the pro version and can transfer files wirelessly now. To me it was worth the $ rather than fight with Samsung.
So I just got this tab for my mother and did the OTA update to 3.2 (heard ICS in July/August). I've been having issues with the Kies recognizing the tablet. I've enabled USB Debugging, but can't seem to find the option to connect as USB device (instead of MTB). I'm running Windows 7 Pro (32 Bit) and I'm wondering is it worth trying to get Kies to work?
My mother isn't really going to bother with transferring photos/music etc so i'm not worried about that. just curious if there was any additional benefit. I plan on rooting the device for her after ICS comes out and then I can just initiate backups that way.
I had the same problems with Kies for some reason, neither the tab or S2 would be recognized but after some update to kies it works fine now. But I don't really use it to be honest and connect via KiesAir via wifi.
no don't bother just use airdroid, check the store.

i believe... if they ever release ics to our beloved device... the firmware will lay around... just use it with odin is more reliable than waiting that sucky kies to connect to their lame server...
Kies sucks
:cyclops:
WELL, WHEN I BOUGHT MY P 6800, FOR 1 MONTHI COULDNT NEVER CONNECT TO KIES AND @ THAT TIME I THOUGHT IT WAS THE ONLY WAY TO SYNC W OUTLOOK.
AFTER SEARCHING EVERYWHERE, XDA INCLUDED, REALLY WORKING SOLUTIONS WERE NOT ON THE HORIZON. FINALLY I TRIED THE FREE APP MY PHONE EXPLORER AND ALL WORKED JUST FINE. 3 WEEKS AGO I UPDATED KIES FOR MY I9100 AND WONDER OVER WONDER: KIES CONNECTED TO MY P 6800 AS WELL. SO, WHAT I DONT GET: WHY A GIANT LIKE SAMSUNG IS NOT ABLE TO RELEASE A SIMPLE TOOL LIKE ITUNES?? WE GALAXY USER ALWAYS MUST WAIT, BOTHER OR STRUGGLE WITH OUR HIGHEND DEVICES...
I'm running Windows 8.1 Update 1 on my laptop, but whenever I come out of standby, I have to go to the device manager and disable and then enable my Wi-Fi card. I have tried updating the Wi-Fi card to the newest version I could find. Later today I'll post the computer model and the Wi-Fi card when I get home.

That's a KNOWN issue if you are using a Dell Venue 8 Pro. I've done numerous Windows updates and driver updates from DELL's webpage, but this doesn't resolve the issue. I simply reboot the unit when I need to re-connect. The issue is an intermittent one for me.
I'v seen the same problem with my Asus Vivotab Note 8. If it's been in standby for very long, once you wake it up, it'll show connected, then will change to limited connectivity. The only way to get it back is to turn wifi off then back on.
OK so my laptop is an older one, the HP Compaq nx9420 with the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network adapter. I know it's an old laptop, but when I was running just Windows 8, not 8.1, the connection was fine after standby.
Sent from my HTC first using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
What wifi device is actually in use on the venue 8 pro and the vivotab note 8? Wondering if there is a pattern.
I myself havent had this issue in windows 8.0, 8.1 or 8.1 update 1 on an HP sleekbook using the qualcomm atheros AR9485
My DV8P is using an Atheros card as well for WiFi
Well my laptop was shipped with Windows XP preinstalled, so its a pretty old computer. It runs Windows 8.1 almost seamlessly though, the only problem I have is lag in the start screen (avoided as much as possible) and this Wi-Fi adapter problem. If needed, I can post a screenshot of the driver information/version.
This is the driver version and information for the adapter.
Dated 2010, I presume you have tried updating/checking for newer driver revisions?
Yes I have tried to update my driver, this is the latest that I could find, there may be newer ones though.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do this, but the thread is now essentially closed, I got a new laptop over the weekend, the Asus F200CA. Thanks for everyone that posted and helped me out.
You can *actually* close it, since it's your thread... There's a "close thread after posting" checkbox available to you.
Hi xda-community,
I've got a Problem with USB Tethering with the Nexus 4:
Tethering itself works, but my PC is running so slow, taskbar is unusable.
Can someone Help? Im Clueless.
System:
Windows 8.1 Update 1
Intel i5
Nvidia GeForce GT240
12GB Ram
Smartphone:
Nexus 4 (mako) unbranded.
BL unlocked, Rooted.
Rom: Cyanogenmod CM11 (Latest Nightlies, but Problem is also on M6)

That's strange. Why would your tethering affect PC performance? Is it only when tethering or is it whenever your device is connected?
Does it happen on other computers or is it just that one? ..

Probably like many and me, you too could make activated Windows 8.1 through a TAP Driver activator. I don't why the very same thing occur to me, with multiple 8.1 PCs and tethering phone combos. Everything that works fine in Windows 7 and 8 messes in 8.1. As you said I too face extremely irresponsive Taskbar particularly the Wi-Fi Network selecting sidebar that doent even popup when USB Tether is done. A sec I disconnect everything happens one by one immediately. I can't even diagnosis the IP of connection due to this lag despite its extreme slow..

I activated Windows 8.1 with a valid licence.
PC is only slow when tethering is ENABLED, not if i just
connect phone to computer.
I managed to get it working that way:
Pull out Lan-cable, but keep activated the Lan
Network adapter. Activate Tethering.
It just works fluid, dont know why.

Yes PC's Network and sharing center goes wild only with tethering and not with normal MTP or PTP connections. Plus I tried to Pull out Lan-cable and yet keep activated the Lan Network adapter. Nothing happen new, same lag occur. If possible, I'll post a video to denote what happens in my PC soon..
I think it is a NDIS driver problem:
