I powered off and powered on my Nook color running 7.1.0 off the internal memory, and i noticed that my lockscreen style had been changed, and my password does not work anymore. How do I get back in without doing a factory reset?
You've probably forgotten your password.
Not possible, I set it only 5 minutes ago.
Also, it will not let me recover using gmail, and when i click emergency call, it asks which launcher I should use (from a list of only half the launchers) but clicking on one does nothing.
I have a feeling there are some corrupt files...
EDIT:
Well, I ended up resetting it using Clockworkmod
This may be a bug, because I reflashed the stable rom, and the same password error occurred. I was still unable to access the nook after restarting
EDIT:
I flashed a different ROM on, and the same thing happened, any ideas?

I have a problem and I hope somebody can help me. My phone can't boot into a TouchWiz ROM because it asks for an encryption pin or password, even though it is not encrypted.
Here is some history and more information:
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 that had Cyanogenmod installed on it. Suddenly it was charging slow on my normally fast charger (even draining when the screen was on), so I was looking for a kernel with fastcharge enabled. I went through a few of them that worked and ended up with Mahdi ROM which I really liked until I read that the development stopped two weeks ago. I then decided to try out a TouchWiz rom but I tried three of them and all of them ask me for a password during the first boot. It's a TouchWiz screen that states something like: "Enter your pin or password to use the encrypted device memory".
I removed the external SD cart, did a full wipe in TWRP including internal storage and data partition format, but the problem persists. I can go back to Cyanogemod, Slimrom and Mahdi rom, but when I try Insane ROM or Wicked ROM I get the same password request popup. I through I would try ODIN to flash stock and see what happens, but the phone is not recognized by any computer I tried (MacBook Pro, DELL laptop or iMac). Since it has problems charging I think there is a problem with the USB port.
Anybody has a clue how I can disable this 'encrypted' bit / flag without using a USB connected computer? Because it is clear that the data on the phone is not encrypted. It is like something left over from a previous ROM.
Background details:
- I had a good working Galaxy S4 running Stock 4.4.4, with Root/Safestrap/TWRP (Phone was not encrypted)
- I rebooted into Safestrap and did a full TWRP backup to my ext SD card [fat32]
- I tried to install CM-12 zip via Recovery Mode, but I think I missed a step and something didn't work out. So I,
- Rebooted back into Safestrap and selected "Restore" from the options. Restore ran for a while, rebooted and restarted successfully.
Now here's the strange part. Restore appears to have completed successfully because I can now see my original wall paper and the unlock screen. BUT my 4-digit numeric PIN doesn't work to unlock the screen. And it looks like wifi and cell phone service aren't connecting. So I"m stuck. I've tried the known-good PIN multiple times, but same results.
I guess I could Odin back to stock and go through the process of installing all my app's and setting them up, but I really don't want to do that.
Any idea why my PIN would not work or would have changed?
Which Version of TWRp do you use?
I remember that it's a known problem with some Version and the only way to prevent it, is to reset the PIN before backuping.
But you could try to delete the /data/sytem/locksettings.db to reset your PIN
If that not works try to delete the .key files in /system/data and create a new PIN after rebooting
I am running BPB1 on my s5 and enabled encryption. The phone showed an Android looking character, and then restarted or went black...I noticed for the past 90 minutes the screen was black and the blue LED kept blinking.
I held the Vol Up, Vol Down, power, and home buttons together. It rebooted into trying recovery...then retarted...waited on the Verizon Logo for 5 minutes, then came up with the Setup Wizard.
WTF?
At a loss as to what I should do? Get back into SS and restore a backup?
If you enabled it, the disabled, it probably wiped everything because that's what it's designed to do. If enabling it caused it to factory reset like that, I'd restore a backup if you have one.

I created another thread, but basically if you have a rooted phone you have to open a terminal and do
su
pkill -KILL daemonsu
Prior to enabling encryption. I did this and it worked. I then tried it on the SD card, and it worked. Then, last night, tried to decrypt it..and that is where **** hit the fan. Granted, I didn't run those terminal commands again, because my 'user' in the terminal command appeared to be what I got the first time I ran pkill -KILL, which went from [email protected] to something like [email protected] But basically the phone appeared to have stalled during the decryption process. Once I got back in SS, my files appeared to still be on my SD card, so I tried to recover a backup....what I didn't realize is despite the file list being on the SD card, every single file was corrupt due to the messed up decryption.
So right now, I am very hesistant to do encryption again in case I ever need to decrypt in the future. I guess I don't see any logical reason to decrypt one day, unless I intend to sell the phone...but a factory reset would accomplish that.
This was what happened to me yesterday.
Sorry to digress... My phone was encrypted but not rooted. I have the encryption password. Any chance to get the data back from the phone?
Thanks.

I i had to reflash the firmware the correct one TB-X104F_S000024_180930_ROW_DCC. Anyway it wasn't booting at all before i flashed. Now it boots, shows the logo etc and constantly says Encryption unsuccessful!, so i reset it and factory reset it but nothing changes.
I have no idea where else to go, bootloader is locked and all i can do is flash the firmware. Would there be a way to remove this from the files within the firmware?. It seems like android is there in the background but i can't get away from that encryption unsuccessful screen!
Sorry if none of this makes sense.
Yo. I got the same tablet bro. Been trying to figure out a custom recovery for her. A stock ROM would be great to have and I haven't been able to find one anywhere. Might I inquire as to where you found yours? It would be a huge relief to know I can fix it if I break it lol.
encryption
If you download the Lenovo MOTO smart assistant from Lenovo support it has a resque option. I also used that to root my tb-x104f. It downloads the original everything and if you take the boot image from the file it downloads and replace it in one that has been modified from magisk it will rescue it and you will have root also thatd what I did with mine
same problem here, reflashed with stock rom. and not resloved

Did you fix this issue?
I am having the same problem.
Thanks
Same problem here (my error reads "Decryption unsuccesful", but I think it's the same as yours).
After a few tries, I believe that it is a problem with the internet connection. After the factory reset, if I skip the wifi connection step, it starts normally. And it is completely usable. I can load pdf documents or apks by the usb from a computer and it runs correctly. But whenever I try to set the wifi connection, it updates something and it causes the tablet that the next time I turn it off, I find the error on the picture when turning on. It asks for a password and no matter which password you enter, then it delivers this message.
In resume, right now it is a completely functional tablet if you NEVER connect it to the internet and load anything you need via usb or bluetooth.
I tried to reset it with Lenovo Smart Assistant, but the result is the same.
I am looking for custom roms to try if it's something about the stock rom, but I haven't found any. Can anyone reccomend me a rom for Lenovo E10 X104F 2GB?
Solution: (Worked for me)
Format Data as F2FS in TWRP. (Advanced Wipe)
Then reboot and wait.
My phone rebooted on me today while using the flashlight (something that occasionally happens from time to time), and now my fingerprint reader doesn't seem to work.
It says Fingerprint Hardware Not Available when I try to use it from the lock screen. The actual hardware itself is working, as I can still go into settings and try to set up a new fingerprint, it will vibrate and show that I touched the sensor as I move my finger, but then it fails at the end saying "enrollment not completed".
I also can't delete any of my saved fingerprints. It seems to get stuck trying to delete when I click one to remove. I'm thinking some sort of security thing got messed up when it rebooted, and I don't know how to fix it. I am rooted, so I already tried wiping cache and dalvik from TWRP. Not sure how to remove fingerprint data and start over... is there a way to do that?
I'm running the latest PE rom (flashed last week), and no, I didn't flash from Nougat in case anyone thinks this is that common issue some people have. I would try the fix for that, but since it isn't the cause of my problem I'm afraid it might mess things up more. Would really rather not hard reset again, took too long to get my phone set up with everything and paired again.

Reflash PE. If that doesn't work do a clean flash.
Boot into TWRP
Go to advanced>filemanager to acces the files in your phone.
Enter the folder /data/system/user/0
Delete following files: ./fpdata/user.db, settings_fingerprint.xml
Reboot to system and set up new fingerprints with the fingerprint wizard
Everything should work normal
