Does anyone feel that with EI22 they are getting worse WIFI signal compared to Froyo??? Mine seems considerably less.
Somebody (I think Noobnl) posted in another thread that they powered the radio back to make battery life better.
i dont' feel mine is weaker but i am having problems with wifi not connecting unless i toggle the wifi button. it will goin into a searching, connecting, disconnecting look until i disable/enable it. then it connects immediatly
Worse signal same speed.

It actually looks like I am getting just a little better strength than the EH17 modem but worse than EC05.

I get better 4g now but my wifi just toggles in a constant connect, disconnect, not in range state. Happens even while I am sitting next to my router.

Well someone said that they were having the issue with nubernal so I reflashed the stoc rom and rooted but I am still having the issue. I have not flashed the keyboard fix or the gps fix as yet but I did flash konane's ciq remover. If problems persist I may have to reflash to bone stock and try it unrooted then rooted to see if I can track down the issue

Only the indicator shows weaker. They just adjusted the signal gain to different db's. Not a big deal you will still have the same exact speeds. And those of you that are connecting and disconnecting try putting in the right password. I know its hard when your skipping keys but slow down.

Absolutely not. I could make it to show that you had 0 bars on indicator when really you should have full bars. And you would still have full connectivity speed. The only speed that is relevant is what is called link speed which you can only see by an app called network info then you select wifi. Also our phones are not 5ghz wireless so we won't have the same link speeds as what a 5ghz enabled device would. I'm sure that the indicator bars will be adjusted in the first custom roms

I have given this modem several chances and it has disappointed me everytime. I consistently get 300 kbs less at home on my Airave on 3G. Out of the house it stops downloading in the middle. Speed is up and down. I lose internet off and on. All on 3G. 3G icon sits there but no blue arrows flash. Sometimes I have to toggle airplane mode several times to get 3G going again.
The only good thing I have found is that I can connect to 4G in my living room consistenetly where the EC05 modem was hit or miss. So if you use 4G all the time this may be a good modem for you. for 3G...throw it out.
I had problems with 3G (dropping out and not coming back) and GPS lock when I first flashed the EE03 modem. Second time around GPS locked and I haven't had the dropped 3G issue since that first flash. Not sure what's up with that, you'd think the problems would be consistent. However, im prolly not the best gauge as I have Wifi everywhere I go. I use 3G sparingly. I haven't compared speeds between the two modems though.

Yeah, that's why I gave it the best test possible with an Airave. I get 1.8Mbs with EC05 and 1.5Mbs with the EE03.
3g signal and strength seems a little stronger for me but not by a whole lot. I've been running it without any issues.
3g drops constantly with ee03. Can't wait for a stable gingerbread!

EE03 speed up my connection quite a bit. No issues here, and paired with SRF 1.1.1, my phone is extremely fast.
I'm fine with it. Little difference

For those with EE03, does it write/change your Wimax settings. I changed a bunch of mine while using ED05, namely the min signal strength toconnect. Default was like -89 and I lowered mine to -94. Def able to connect more, but if it doesn't... u can just watch the bat guage spin. Just wondering if increased performance with the new modem may be due to tweaking the settings.
I had changed my 3G extensions... blanked them all out. They got set back to default while flashing a ROM. Never got a chance to evaluate a difference. Are the ports/proxies set up the same with EE03? Maybe try blanking the 4 entries and see if that helps.

No way I love the ee03 modem. I used to have a lot of emails that I would send hang for the longest time. Haven't had a problem at all with ee03 modem. Also 3g speed is so much faster for me as well. Just my opinion.

Have you ever seen this behavior on eb13's and ec05's modem? I have and also dk28's modem. I have this pop up from time to time on various rom/modem combinations and I'm starting to think its some sort of RIL bug or 3g handshake bug, maybe even some sort of permissions bug (really I have no clue tho).
I see this happen from time to time. I'm in a spot that always has 3g, but what happens, it just sits there loading, all the while my 3g icon is dormant, doing nothing. Then out of the blue it goes to 1x and starts working, but only with 1x, then when its done loading whatever, it will bring 3g back and it may or may not repeat the same thing again when I try to pull data. Note; occasionally it will retain 3g, but be hexa slow.....1~10kbps slow.....ouch, that's slow.
That was why I spoke of a modem binge in some other threads. Originally I thought it was sprints network taking a dump in my hand(set). Now after seeing an evo getting 3g right next to me, while mine was stalling and eventually dropped to 1x and also trying every decent modem. I have to believe the problem is in my phone some place.
Only thing I have recently discovered to work is to fix permissions in rom manager, I don't use rom manager for anything, except fixing permissions. The only reason I even tried fixing permissions in rom manager, was after fixing permissions in cwm (3.0.0.6) my phone would (sometimes) get stuck in a boot loop and the only way to fix it would be to clear cache and dalvik cache or restore a backup in cwm. However this modem bug/issue still pops up from time to time, mostly when the phone has been sleeping for 10minutes or more.
I actually think the ee03 modem is pretty good. Just my problems are not.
i wouldnt know lol ive been stuck on dk28 since the usb ports on my laptop are broken

@Epic4gee...Yeah, I got those symptoms but only going to the EE03 modem. Maybe it is a tower/modem issue for me. But the biggest thing is that it is slower on an Airave which should be the best connection I could get with a 30Mbs broadband connection. I could pass off the connection drops as Sprint but not the speed difference.
Yeah 3g sucked for me too

I'm calling malarchy on this thread since this morning I was getting 1.2 mbs/s on 3g, 7.45 mbs/s on 4g and 17.07 mbs/s on wifi with multiple attempts. I think like all devices thios varies by region, modem software and device hardware. It'll never hit that venn diagram where all 3 circles coexist at their highest points. I was probably in some mecca of coverage this morning.

Did you put the EC05 modem back on and test it in the same area? You will get about 200-300 kbs more in speed on 3G. I consistently tested this on the fastest connection possible, an Airave with Broadband 30Mbs connection. EC05 is faster, EE03 connects to 4G better in low signal areas.

I see a major improvement in the signal with the ee03 modem. I live in portland, and went from 2-3 bounding bars to a steady 4. My 4g still disconnects in my apartment, but it is stronger than it was outside my building.
First I'll start off by saying tonight was a really terrible night for me so if this comes off as venting so be it lol.
Samsung, you're getting there that's for sure. Scrolling, screen off/on is buttery smooth and things seem to be working better than I had expected.
With that being said, there is still work that needs to be done. It may just be my location, but with the EG22 modem I feel like I've been roaming more than usual. I flashed back to the EC05 modem just to see and it confirmed my suspicion: either my phone or my area just doesn't like the new modem very much.
Another key component is battery life, it's been pretty sub-par for me. At work I have terrible reception (no bars, even roaming) so I put the phone on airplane mode and the battery is still dropping pretty consistently, much faster than on any of the other leaks or Froyo. Must be a rogue process(es) eating it up, but I can't be sure unless I do some digging which I don't really feel like doing.
All in all it's definitely coming along nicely, but by no means is it phenomenal. But for the first time since DI18, I can honestly say that I feel Sammy is doing some stuff right. Keep it up, don't let us users down

My impressions of the modem/rom is they are faking things a little bit on the signal meter as I know the signal isn't that strong in those areas. And it's not like a software update just gives better signal.
I agree that it seems like I'm roaming more on EG22, but the modem doesn't seem to have any effect. For example, I ran the stock EG22 build for a while and noticed the roaming issue and weaker WiFi reception. Reverting to the the EC05 modem didn't seem to help these issues. One of the stores I work in has a WiFi router that I can access throughout the store on Froyo (EC05), but on GB (EF02/EG22), WiFi disconnects when I walk to the rear of the store. Doesn't seem to matter which modem I'm using at the time. I even flashed back to Froyo yesterday but left the EG22 modem installed. GPS, 3G, and WiFi were flawless all day everywhere I went. So it seems that there must me some code/instructions in the build itself that are more relevant than the modem firmware.
Another interesting tidbit is that there basically is no difference in EC05 and EG22 modems. Randy did a binary differencing to generate a patch between EC05 and EG22 and the patch file is 142 bytes, which is probably about enough to change the version name.
I have noticed since the first GB leak that the WiFi reception is horrible now compared to a stock Epic with FroYo.

Yes, it makes me wonder if they might have the power to the radios dialed back a bit intentionally to help them diagnose something possibly?
I have noticed the wifi bars being low, but it isn't effecting the speed at all. I consistently get 1.5mbps down/600kbps up when over 3g, and have seen 9mbps on 4g. Call quality seems good as well. As for battery drain? It might be a bit faster than I'm used too, but then again, I'm coming from SRF 1.2. If there are any issues with the TWLauncher, I don't notice them because I'm a LauncherPro user. Issues with the browser? I use Dolphin, so if there are any, again, I don't know. Overall though, this ROM is stable enough for daily use.

I have installed the EL30 update after going back to stock EC05>EI22. Here is what I have observed about EL30 (I have not applied any other fixes nor rooted yet):
-The upside down horizontal calibration for compass is fixed
-Keyboard lag is gone
-GPS improved from locking only 4 satellites to 6-7 (the GPS Fix I think, could can allow more, upto 9-12 under best conditions), so I think this made be good enough, but balancing power for battery consumption.
-"Android System" service aka CIQ is definitely gone.
-Haven't experienced speaker feedback squeal yet, although I did on EI22 after I had used voicemail and google voice search.
I have installed CWM 5.0.2.7 and rooted. I had to do the CWM flash twice (once to get SU on and open Root Explorer so I could delete the install recovery script, since there's no EL30 Kernel yet that takes out the install-recovery.sh script. I am showing only 2 bars in my house with an Airave when I normally get 4.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
No, I'm getting about the same signal with my Airave. The wifi looks like more bars than EI22.
Has the rotation sensor been jerky for you in the past (skymap/yelp/other AR apps) and has EL30 made it smooth again?
Seems snappier. GPS is definitely better. Had a lock as good as 1m today for a short time while driving around and it was cloudy. 4m was the norm. Will test the modem over the next few days.
Man, if the keyboard skip is fixed and the GPS too, I'll be happier than a dead pig in the sun. The wife and I made a run from Houston to Ft Worth this weekend. I had to pull the battery about 7 times on the trip to get the GPS back on track. Extraordinarily annoying when you are trying to find your way in a place you've never been before.
No OTA here yet, probably will go the manual route. Thanks for the good news on the update, look forward to having a phone I don't have to cuss out all the time!
Sleeb
Preliminary results for me with EL30 modem running EI22 Legendary is: ~7% TWS while at home. I'll report back after a normal day at work and then going home.
With EI22 modem I would average ~3% TWS.
It's a shame I'd have any TWS since I live in a metropolitan area. Stupid Sprint coverage.
I think a lot of you need to remember that sprint is doing all kinds of stuff to towers lately and other issues may make your signal bars report differently. I'm still on ei22 and while typing this I watched my signal bars go from 0 - 2

Yes rotation sensor was upside down starting in EB13 Froyo and has been until EL30. You could fix it though by doing your horizontal calibration upside down. Now you don't have to.

Funny, I was just about to post a little message about my stupidity and battery life.
Since I keep things mostly stock, my upgrade routine was to backup apk/data, and system data in MyBackup, then reflash back to stock EI22, install the EL30 update, do the CWM/root dance, and restore stuff in MyBackup. All went well, but my battery life was about %70 of what it was. For the first 2 days I just figured I was playing with the phone too much, but today I started plowing through the settings. What I found was that even though I had restored everything in MyBackup, not every setting stuck. For instance, Facebook was set to update every hour even though it had previously been set to never update. I also had to re-freeze DRM after the install. There may still be more things I haven't found.
The point is after an upgrade, especially if you have re-installed stuff, go through every setting you can think of that could be killing your battery. It's possible that some app has been inadvertently set to connect too often and that is what is killing the battery too fast.

I wonder if the US GSIII has weaker wifi than the international version. Anandtech reported that the wifi radio on the GSIII is weak.
I wonder if it's the soc cuz the evolte WiFi behaves similarly to what you describe.
No problems here I usually turn on wifi when getting closed to home and if I'm looking at something as soon as a pull to driveway is already connecting

Now does anyone know if I leave it set to 5GHZ, will that use it for my home router or any router I try to connect to? So I guess Ill have to switch back if I come across a 2.5 router

hi guys looking for some help here with the people that are having problems with their wifi ..i am having the same problem getting pissed about it cutting out , this might be something ..run a speed test on wifi with gps on and then run it with gps off .. i have ran it about 20 times and the numbers always come up the same ..here are some pics...if the mods want to delete the same thread in the international thread please do..low scores =gps on ....high scores gps off.. also if you go to location services and check wireless networks u will see your speed go sporadic
Prolly the easiest explanation for the GPS and low WiFi speeds is that this is a low power lte chip. The GPS, WiFi, lte & bt are on a single chip and can only have a certain maximum amount of voltage going to the chip. This would be a Qualcomm issue not Samsung.
My Verizon G2 has horrible wifi speeds, and all the other devices are great. My S4 could get great speeds and access from the other side of my house, and my G2 barely gets anywhere near that even 10 feet from the router. I've read that it could be related to wifi calling somehow. Can anyone diagnose the problem? I've tried multiple ROMs, all of them had the same issue. Please don't tell me to return it, that's not an option being on TWRP

If you can not solve the problem you can always return to stock and Verizon will not be the wiser. Not be wise, you have reset the router being you are having this issue on several roms, I thinking it would be a based issue with either the phone or the router.
I'm not seeing this at all. My WiFi speed/signal are comparable to my razr, range is about the same too. My internet speed on WiFi is another story though, rotten HughesNet...

Okay, I need to clarify- in WiFi settings, the G2 is telling me my wireless signal is sending 72 mbps, however when I load webpages, download apps, watch Youtube, etc it downloads incredibly slowly. It seems like something in the phone is a problem.

Have you tried resetting your router? For me, I have great connection speed and signal strength to my router, but my satellite internet speed stinks so I just usually keep 4g on at home.
Have you checked your speed through another device?

I reset it, restarted the modem, shut off the computer, even turned the strip all the way off so they weren't getting power. Restarted everything, same problem. I changed the router settings to auto band width and it seemed to get a little getter range but the speed was still slow. I thinks it's just time for a new router. It's a linksys e2000- I'm wondering if this router just doesn't play nice with newer smartphones.

Ran into that with my old linksys router with Windows Vista. Got a dlink awhile back with issues.

Interesting.... so this could be coincidental, that it happened to go bad as soon as I got a G2. A new router would probably fix my problems?

Well, I'm not guaranteeing anything. Have you tried your d/l speeds on any other networks? I'd do that first.
