[Q] Photo Editing w/ S-Pen - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

This would be a big selling point for me. Does anyone who already have the phone mind confirming that you can snap a picture and edit it? The main thing I would be interested in is red eye removal. Right now I have to take a picture, move it to my computer, remove the red eye and then upload to facebook/whatever. I would love to be able to remove 1 step, a step that normally delays sharing by days or forever if I never get around to it.
How advance are the included photo editing apps and how well do they work with the s-pen?

Only had mine for about 24 hours. . . I did not see a red-eye removal in the included 'photo editor' . . . i could have missed it. . .if so it is not obvious.
I can say I have used pic say pro for a while on other phones...and i have installed it on my gnote. It has red-eye removal and it works ok. . . i bet there are a ton of other pic/image editors on the market(s) that have this feature...

[APPTest] DarkRuler BETA : Measure Tool

DarkAngelFR picked up this project and has a working app up and running... check out his blog @ http://blog.idlezone.org/pages/HTC/DarkRuler
original thread (how it started)
....A couple days ago i stumbled accross an App for the iPhone called RulerPhone and i thought it would be a cool tool to have for the diamond. Since our diamonds screen isnt multitouch, the tool would have to do without it and the lost ease of navigation could be accomplished using additional onscreen buttons.
Here is a basic explanation of the tool. Lets say u need to measure the with of your bookcase but u dont have anything to measure it. well you could guess how wide it is, OR you take out your Diamond, place a creditcard in the case and take a picture of the bookcase from within DiamondRuler. Once the picture is taken, you align the creaditcard from the picture with the placeholder on your screen using the touchdisplay, the zoom buttons on the display and the NavWheel. Once u have it all aligned you lock the picture and now you can start measuring your bookcase. the diamond will calculate the distances for you.
Is there a developer out there willing to take on the task? Let me know via PM.
Here are some Mockups of the GUI.
reserved for later use (maybe)
awesome idea
wow what a program!it is evolutionary!!
Flattering
If anybody would like to contact me about RulerPhone (I'm the developer) or inquire about development hints, please feel free to do so via the email address at http://benkamens.com/rulerphone. I am more than willing to share.
If the final design is going to be so blatantly RulerPhone-esque (to put it nicely...), I would appreciate a simple reference and link back to RulerPhone as the originating idea for what may be DiamondRuler.
Awesome idea!
I hate all these amazing iphone applications, getting very jealous of the iphone...
Must remember iphone GPS is rubbish....Iphone cant run all my favourite WM applications....
i remeber there was a ruler application for the N95..it could measure the distance between you and the object, height, angle...
certainly an interesting application to have
Nice whiskey collection! Nice idea for an app
Great idea !!
Should be really funny
@kamens : do you encounter special problems for developing this (I mean hard picture analysis coding...) ? I may develop this kind of funny tool for "windows mobile" but afraid of getting in hard "card finding algorithme".....
See Ya
DarkAngel
PS: excuse my english
no programmer up for the task?
i would code it myself, but by programmingskills just suck

Don't worry.. as soon as someone creates this app the Diamond will become world renowned! And the best part.. this is impossible for the iPhone to perform

If you need a tester i'm happy to help.
this will be amazing
would like to test as well
Hello!
Beta Release is available, if you wants to test contact me by private message.
Will post the app in about a week if not many bugs found!
Thanx to testers and to fluid888 for the idea, to Kamens for its iPhone apps (thanx to a friend here for showing this to me "live", really impressive), to anyone in the beta, to the GSensor SDK Creator, .....
Ok I can see some potential for this if it can be calibrated to any accuracy. But how would parallax errors be dealt with and also spherical aberration could cause problems.
Interesting "bookcase" you have there fluid888, I think I might have read one or two of them myself!
lol
Sorry but I didn't implement any kind of spherical aberration algorythm yet lol... interesting but not really something easy to do!
Maybe in release 12.3.4.5 I will try to implement this let's make the v 0.1 working before

[MOD - HOW TO] FFC for the Vibrant - How to do it

Disclaimer: XDA-Developers has zero affiliation and liability with this, and the sale of these parts is being allowed only for the sake of helping the modding community
My original thread was getting cluttered, and XDA asked me to make some changes, so here is the new thread on HOW TO DO THE MOD.
Breaking news available via my twitter feed, or #vibrantFFC
The US/T-Mobile variant of the Samsung Galaxy S had it's FFC borked prior to manufacturing. This has left us an easy way to add it back in and open up the ability to explore video calling. From my experience thus far, their is poor support for software for FFC's in general, but this seems to be changing. As more of these cameras make it out to devs, expect to see more video calling and chatting apps to start appearing in the near future.
To accomplish this you need a few things:
[*]A camera from the international Galaxy S variant, the i9000s. These are available through a wholesaler that requires a minimum order of 3, sometimes more. If you want to go this route and find a buddy, see my thread for that here.
A small size 0 flat head screw driver and phillips screw driver. Most eyeglass repair kits include screw drivers that are close enough in size to work.
An iPod opener tool, or something similiar.
Something to remove the paint from the digitizer where the FFC goes. Denatured alcohol, and the stronger goo gone varieties are known to work
Q-tips
Some balls (not really - its easy) and common sense (goes a long ways)!
An FFC compatibale ROM - eugene's froyo (2.2) or Bionix (2.1)
Open your phone - Remove the battery cover, sd card, sim card, battery. remove the 7 screws around the back plate, then use the iPod opener tool to snap the rear plate off.
Unsnap the various buckles to release the motherboard.
remove the speaker and original camera
turn the main board clockwise for about an inch to allow some space to work
locate the FFC molding. It is above where the original camera was located. You can dry fit the new camera in place to see where the FFC goes. This is the area that the paint needs to be removed from
Use your remover of choice and some qtips to get that paint off of there
Let things completely dry before putting back together. 10 - 30 minutes should be fine
snap new camera in place, check your work.
If it looks good, installation is reverse of removal.
Some ROMs (2.2 base) do not include the font camera driver. If you cannot get it to work, try copying the attached file (unzip first - should have .yuv extension) to /system/camera on your phone. (requres root)
You can get the camera from here.
maybe you can add the pictures from the other thread?

Apologies for the noob question but what do you mean in step 2? Do we actually have to take the motherboard out of the phone like in these videos: http://www.careace.net/2010/06/09/disassembly-of-the-samsung-galaxy-s/ and also is it really necessary to remove the speaker?
EDIT: Sorry for not being descriptive, What I mean is, does the speaker block this "socket"in which the FFC goes? If not then why is it necessary to remove it?

Do the files go in /system/camera or in /system/cameradata ?
I am trying to work it on the Bionix 1.7 rom and I keep getting errors.

That video is a general disassembly. It isn't specific to this mod. You can make the modification without removing the audio socket/speaker.

Still nothing. Any other way to test it?

It won't run on stock kernel. There are several threads going about the cams. You may want to read them to get a full sense of whats going on. But, it looks promising.
Got mine installed a few minutes ago. I'm not on a rom that supports the FFC but the rear camera works, no lines or fuzziness as some reported. On first opening the camera app I tried to tap to focus and got a force close. Can't get it to happen again so I'm not sure why that happened. Other than that it's working perfectly.
I did notice on installing the camera that NOTHING but the camera needs to be unsnapped. There is a ribbon cable that has to be flexed into place to install the new one but it does save you from removing the whole board (not that it's hard but why bother). On installing the new camera I did notice almost a snap when the ffc popped into place.
Did anyone manage to get a perfectly round hole? I tried for a couple hours with a qtip, some goo gone, and a screwdriver. While the results are respectable I'm curious if anyone found a way?

Nice vid. Now you have to tell us how you got the 3d user interface on there, and about the programs you're running on it to make those customizations.

Cheers man! Battery life varies heaps. Strangley, browsing the web probably takes the most and gaming is a relatively small drain. In standby ~1 % per 6 hours or more. so that's insane but for heavy use probably 12-14 hours? moderate use 1 -2 days at an absolute stretch..
I do use ADW EX with a few theme plug ins etc (i'll post a full tutorial soon) Cheers for watching!
I really enjoyed watching that. Artistic and the best I've seen!
Very nice
Thanks man.
Excellent video. Looking forward to the tute.
One bit of hopefully constructive criticism for you though - you really need to used a tripod for your video recording device. Shaky handcam makes it look less professional and detracts from what you are trying to show off because it cant keep focus quickly enough for all the small movements you are making.
Great Video and Fantastic UI

Cool Dude!
I'm wondering what version of MultiPicture Live Wallpaper do u use, cuz every version that i tried on my HD2 and now on my Note it's loading when i unloock the phone.
Tnx for the answer.
Excellent video. But you do need to make that cam less shaky... I'd advice, in case you want to keep the video "in-motion", is that you reseat the cellphone between scenes, change into portrait and landscape, isntead of allowing it to be shaky. Very artistic tough, very creative, and quite thorough.
BTW, it's been reasonably stablished by users in this forum that browinsg eats your battery because of the white backgroud. The opera browser (and perhaps others) have options to change default background color, just like the "kindle" app does. That extends battery greatly. Wi-fi is also a culprit here, so keep it in 3g.

any app like this?

went with my sister to check out a house for purchase. she took out her galaxy note 2, took a picture of one of the rooms and after measuring it. she took out her note 2 s-pen to write directly on the picture she just took, drawing lines and writing down measurements. and man that was useful. this is samsung' proprietary software that comes with the phone. now is there any app like this for Android? i don't want to add notes or bubble text to the picture, i want to freely write or draw whatever i want on the picture i took. any program similar to this that would let me do this with my finger?

I would search for photo editors. Most, if not all, have the option to draw on pictures. For example, this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.picsart.studio&feature=search_result
It has a lot more downloads than the others, so I would go for this one. Just search for "photo" or something, and you should find a bunch.

I like the video. Music is good for the type of video, +1 to the wallpaper because turbos, intro is cool, +1 to the themes, I like the Settings tiling up animation (not sure if that makes sense).
Only thing I would say is smoother camera handling (e.g. min. 55, min. 2:13-2:15) and the angle you have your phone is good but at some points it's hard to tell what app, or what setting you're doing/using because the very top left is blurry.
Also I can tell I'm bored right now waiting for the wifey because I just spent a lot of time reviewing a 3 minute video lol
What's the purpose of the video?
Why not link apps and mods properly with descriptions and instructions.
Why not a step-by-step or how-to?
A 3 minute video I'm forced to watch is useless.
Why spend 3 minutes looking at something?
Now you have to pause, rewind, fast forward parts if you missed something.
Everything written out would save time and not waste everyone else's.
All I see is a video to generate views.
