I had the same issue as alot of you with not having ANY GPS at all after flashing the ACS ICS V2 Rom.
I found a solution:
After flashing the rom flash the
Modem_EI22.zip fome the 2nd post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339344
That worked for me. Hope it works for others
trying now...
(update) - no difference, still needed to ODIN to EC05, end up back at EI22 with NO GPS. oh well.
I flashed the rom 3 times last night with no luck on the GPS. I did this this morning and it worked. Maybe I just did something different.
Update:
GPS worked Once...Now it wont work Again.
Maybe I had a fluke.
I odined back to stock ec05, used stock recovery to update. After first boot I used odin and installed acs recovery, did the rom wipe, installed and have it running great with last gps check 6/6 in my apartment.

Ok, I'm starting over. I'm going to Odin back to Stock EC05 modem and ROM. Go through the process over again and see where it gets me.
I'm thinking because I didn't go back to the stock EC05 ROM, but did go to the EC05 modem that something is missing.
1. Odin to Stock EC05
2. CWM v3.1.0.1
3. Get GPS lock
4. Flash ACS ICSv2
5. Flash EI22 Modem
Fixed....3/3 sats in 30 seconds indoors facing north.
edit: EI22 modem didn't take the first time, GPS was with the EC05 modem. Rreflashed the EI22 modem listed in this thread...and...no GPS.
yea
ok so i get that i can odin back to stock ec05 reroot+cwm then flash ACS ICS to fix the gps, but can i make a nandroid and restore my data and keep gps, cause ive just spent a good hour or so getting it back like i want it and i dont want to do that bs again lol

I would assume EI22.
Well I have GPS working...
1. Odin to Stock EC05
2. CWM v3.1.0.1
3. Get GPS lock (shutdown and 3 finger salute)
4. Flash EI22 modem (Ec05toEI22 .zip)
5. Flash ACS ICS v2
I haven't rebooted the phone yet, but was able to get the GPS service to properly start and to lock in on 4/4 satellites.

I ODIN'd back to DI18
Went into google maps and got GPS lock
ODIN'd DK28 modem and booted up
Installed Clockworkmod
Flashed DK28 ROM
GPS works great
I went from quantum 1.7 back to stock DI18 via Odin, used Odin to flash Modem and pit files, then rooted and clockworked, flashed ACS deodexed
DK28, got everything back, including GPS. Mine was broken once I upated to froyo when leaks first started dropping.

If you follow what I posted step by step, the root is applied when you do the DK28 ROM
So how do I odin to dl18 after I m already on froyo
Ps I am noob.

Ill have to reload and tr that when I get home. But after every release doing the same, this is going to be a NIGHTMARE for sprint if the offical OTA does this when its eventually released. :/

That worked for me, as well.
A rooted DI18 stock ROM was giving me trouble with the update.zip method due to the old joeykrim one-click used to root it. So I went with the Odin3 method.
Just to clarify:
I used the Odin3 method (the alternate method) to go from a rooted, stock DI18 to the new DK28 OTA update leaked ROM.
I enabled GPS and opened Google Maps, but "My Location" failed; no GPS.
I used the same Odin3 method plus this PIT file to go back to DI18. As explained here and here.
I tried "My Location" again; GPS worked!
I then repeated step 1 to go back to DK28. I tried GPS and it worked. Success!
For what it's worth, I then successfully applied the one-click root v2.50 (enable USB-debugging, plug in the phone, extract the files to a folder, then run the "run" file).
EDIT: Another thing I wanted to mention: ensure the Samsung USB drivers are properly installed and working. Test them by plugging in the phone like normal while on, try enabling USB-debugging, try the "download mode" where you power-on the phone while holding the "1" key on the keyboard. Ensure your computer successfully installs the device drivers in all of those methods before starting any of this.
If you're having troubles with Windows 7 64-bit, try it in XP 32-bit. All you need are the USB drivers, Odin3 and the PIT and .tar.MD5 files to make this all happen (and the one-click files for root, I suppose). Good luck!
Oh, busted. I'm a lurker. I just realized this is my first post on here since joining almost 3 years ago! Yay me.
DK28 killed my GPS! It was generally always able to locate me, even if it was 30-90 meters off.
After flashing the DK28 modem/stock rom, the GPS wasn't able to find me at all. Closest it got was about 2 miles west of my location. -___-;;;
Currently trying to flash DI18 and see I can get it working again.
**EDIT**
Flashing DI18, getting a lock, then flashing DK28 again, WORKED and fixed my GPS!
I am able to get a fast accurate lock. A bit much of work, but I'm glad its working somewhat again.
Just adding my voice of support to this method.
-Started with stock DI18, GPS averaging 30m accuracy indoors and out.
- Rooted with one-click, installed deoxed DK28 with clockwork
- GPS could not even lock on, even outdoors.
- ODIN'd back to stock DI18
- Got a lock with GPS (back to 30m accuracy)
- ODIN'd stock DK28.
- GPS was averaging 60m lock indoors
- Went outside, aquired a good lock
- GPS now averaging 3m (not 30!) both indoors and out.
After that, I rooted stock DK28 and flashed another DK28 rom (including clearing data and cache) without the quality of the GPS lock decreasing.
Hope this helps.
Using maps on DI18, then flashing the DK28 modem and rom definitely fixed my GPS issues..
Whats odd is I did do GPS status when I was on DI18 and flashed DK28 and still my gps was messed up, so it seems using MAPS is the key.. odd.
Hey all...just wanted to share.
Before the froyo flash my GPS was working.
Before the froyo flash I decided to do the "GPS Fix" turned on hot start up.
After that gps took longer to start.
Flashed to froyo dk.
Now GPS does not work.
Tried getting back to the dialer gps menu, but it doesn't work? do we have new numbers to access the gps menu?
Is there a way to do this without having to flash back? I too am in the group of going from stock eclair to froyo and now I can't see any satellites. Ugh.
I didnt flash back.my gps is fine. Using viper rom 3.0 + gpsfix.
could you give info on how to use the viper rom for newbees?
Sheesh man I must be a lucky MF. My **** locks better than ever. I flashed stock with odin and applied update.zip. I mean my **** almost locks as soon as the app loads..
Can someone tell me the logic behind this approach and why it works?
I havent flashed back to DI18 ... will wait to see if it locks at all outside my house. I know I had some issues before but not consistent.
Locking is insane. 4 meters indoors. I actually walked from one end to th other of the building I'm in and it actually followed me correctly. THANK GOD this was fixed..
My gps initally didn't work then just resent the dk28 modem over and blammo. It worked.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
After flashing I opened maps and couldn't get any satellites to lock, downloaded GPS status and it worked, cleared and redownloaded data in tools just to make sure, maps worked fine after that
it seems that every time i flash a rom my radio disappears and i have to use odin to flash it back. is this normal? i flash the dk28 modem from viperrom's post.
No, that's not normal. I flashed the DK28 modem once and haven't had to do it again.
Nope sounds like it not sticking so you should try to flash it with a fill tar file and hope it sticks or somethings wrong with your phone.

What do you mean when you say your modem disappears?
I know that everytime I flash a new rom it takes a few minutes and the 3g icon will go away for awhile, then come back, then go away, finally it will be steady. Perhaps this is what you're talking about? I've never had issues from it, just gave it some time and it sorts out.
flashing from one of the full tars fixed this.
i have the HTC EVO and have been running Flipz FreshROM since he first put out his custom EVO ROM and even used his HERO ROMs before that. my wife has an Epic now, which i rooted back in October. she's currently running the last official update from Samsung (DI18, i believe) and i wanted to update her to the latest release (DK28).
what are the best custom ROMs to use that are based off of the DK28 update?
is it best just to update to DK28, then root and not worry about a custom ROM?
in order to update to DK28, do i have to unroot first or is there an already unrooted DK28 ROM that i could flash?
thanks for the help.

In my opinion, different people will have different opinions regarding which ROM is the "best". User experience can vary from person to person. What may not be an issue to one person may be a deal breaker for another.
I would recommend trying each until you find one that meets your needs. To update to DK28, I would recommend following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853209
Couldnt be easier. If you find that you have issues with DK28, use ODIN to get back to 2.1 and then reroot. The process is simple and easy to find if you search. Personally, the second time I tired DK28, I used ODIN to go back to stock 2.1, then used the link above to go to DK28. I would also recommend giving your phone a few days to adjust to 2.2. This helped some of my issues work themselves out.
Use odin to flash the dk28 modem first. I can't post links yet but look in the ViperRom thread for a good zip of Odin with the dk28 modem and the correct Pit file. Unzip everything, untar the modem.tar. Turn off your phone. Boot while holding the 1 key down (you get a Yellow Icon in the middle of the screen). Run Odin, Place the modem.bin file in the PHONE slot in odin, put the .PIT file in the PIT slot in odin. Plug the phone into the computer. Odin will see your phone as a COM# port, any number is fine. Auto-Reboot and F.Reset Time should be the ONLY things checkmarked in options. Click start.
Its complicated but it works pretty good. The phone will restart and run with the DI18 and the DK28 modem. Get a GPS Lock in Navigation or Google Maps on the phone, make sure it locks! Skipping this step has led to some people not being able to get locks with the internal gps on epics with dk28.
Apply the oneclick root found in the forums (Android Developement).
Pick a rom, i think Bonsai 1.04 is very stable and pretty with its elegant font.. not so strongly masculine like some of the custom roms. Download the rom and put it on the sdcard, boot into clockwork (volume down, camera and the power button simultaneously) and wipe / factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache. Flash the rom...zip off the sdcard and then reboot.
Yes you can flash directly dk28 with modem using ODIN.. I tried the OTA zip on a stock DI18 and couldn't get that to work for me. But when I went direct to dk28 from di18 i lost gps.
Anyway, just my story, and what I did. I love my custom rom, but it took me hours to figure it out. I hope these instructions are complete and errorfree, but it would be a good idea to read forum threads about this stuff besides just what I have to say. ViperROM's thread was especially helpful with the odin use stuff. There is a wiki about it too, but im not allowed to post links, oops.
I don't know if it was just me but I immediately jumped on the DK28 band wagon, and yes it was cool but for me it was somewhat unstable. My Wifi was borked, sometimes it'd go on perfect, other times I'd hit the widget in the pulldown, and it'd sit there green and do nothing. i'd have to go into the Settings -> Wifi and it'd say "Error". So like I said I don't know if it was just me cause everyone else here loves it. Anyway just thought I'd let you know!
Good luck!

if i'm wiping everything and flashing a custom DK28-based ROM, do i need to unroot, flash the stock DK28, re-root and then flash? or could i just wipe the current state of her Epic and flash the Bonsai ROM? i know with my EVO that i have to update the baseband/radio separately from the ROM, but whenever i want to update my EVO, i just wipe and re-flash the new ROM.

Check out Quantum rom, with EXT4..Just did my wifes epic,no issues at all....BTW i run fresh 3.5, good rom....
I have a question about roms and the (eventual) update to official froyo...will those of us on DK28 need to flash back to use custom roms or will we be able to simply odin a new modem and install a new rom? Or better yet, not have to odin anything and just be able to flash in CWM.

Not a possibility to update via flashable .zip not with ODIN

It's actually possible (correct me if I'm wrong) that whatever you flashed through ODIN didn't have the modem for EB13. Going back to DI18 and then using the update.zip to get to EB13 is a sure-fire way to get the new modem...
Chances are you actually did get the modem though if you used the link to the .tar that was posted here... in that case I'm not too sure
Yea I used the modem posted here and in my setting it says EB13
try downloading gps status and deleting agps data thru the app.
I'm on a dk28 ROM with eb13 kernel and modem. My gps lock is quick and within 10 meters tops.

The only two ways to do this, either using the Samsung tool or Odin, will both completely wipe your data and settings. If you want to save your data make sure you do a nandroid backup before updating and then do an advaned (/data) restore with clockwork after you've updated and restored your root/clockwork.
There are more than two ways.
*Samsung tool (or Odin)
*update.zip (for fully stock system)
*cwm flashable di18->eb13. If you are on dk28, then use the cwm flashable di18 w/ modem in the wiki, first.
You will probably lose data and settings when flashing the di18 zip, but as mentioned before, you can do a backup and then restore /data once you make it to eb13.

This is kind of where I'm leaning now. My phone works great, I have relatively few problems and introducing new ones just to get from DK28 to EB13 doesn't sound like a good idea at all.
Is the compass/accelerometer issue resolved in EB13? Will Google Sky Maps work properly? Does wifi turn on everytime, without error? If not, I have nothing to gain and everything to lose by even considering updating to EB13..
New Epic 4g - Rooted and Rommed
Hi, I just swapped out my Evo 4G to a Galaxy Epic 4G, I first was trying to figuring out how to updated to the latest mods but thanks to XDA developers i got it all working fast now. I first installed the Root one Click 3.0.0.5/6 and then i tried to install the Rom but it woulnt take it. So after reading much online, i figured i had to take it to Android 2.2 first to install one of the latest ROM's. si i did the Froyo 2.2 update and the I was able to Flash it using the One Click Root CWM3 Clockwork 3.0.0.6 and installed ViperROM Trinity 4.0.4 and now its running Fast and clean I also installed the Genocide 1.20Ghz EB13 Kernel V.0.2
I ran sum benchmark test and got:
16.561 mflops @ 5.06 sec Linpack
1773 on Quadrant
38.99 seconds on SQL
1315, 2948 on Smartbench
My Epic is Working great Thanks XDA-Dev.

Why is this a pain? Barely different than flashing a new Rom/Kernel:
1) CWM, make backup
2) Odin combo EB13/Root/CW (ext or RFS)
3) CWM, Flash EB13 Rom/kernel (required for ext4, optional for RFS)
4) CWM, restore data
I used Midnight 4.0 and Genocide 0.2a kernel. My homescreen, settings, apps, etc. all restored perfectly.

The fact that you put up with this nonsense is really astounding.
An upgrade should *never* destroy anything on the phone. The homescreen, settings, apps being as they were -- I take that as an absolute non-negotiable minimum, not some amazing contrivance.
OK, so I am new to the epic 4g (it belongs to a friend, I have a cappy). I've flashed to stock, upgraded to E05, rooted with the latest one-click, and all that goes perfectly!
When I install bonsai 4.0.1 the installation goes flawless, but on bootup it keeps doing the FC vibrate and boot loops. I've tried 3 fresh installs but I am getting nowhere. I have also tried it doing the 3x wipes and without. I'm familiar with odin, so I know it's not something there. Any thoughts?
Having the same issue. Sadly.
*One thing I'll note is to ensure you are using ClockWorkMod 3, not 2.5. Wanna make sure you have the correct file type (EXT4).
I have tried to install Bonsai 4.0.0 & 4.0.1 multiple times and have had the same boot loop issue.
I love the Bonsai (3.0) Rom, which worked just fine w/ EB13, but has not worked at all since upgrading to EC05. I want to keep EC05 as bluetooth actually works.
I always odin back to Stock DI18 and update to EC05, then root using CMW 3, wipe date/cache/dalvik 3X, then install Bonsai 4 (and 4.0.1 one another attempt). The install seems to be successful, but I end-up stuck in the boot loop. I tried to re-flash the ROM after netting the bootl oop, but it errors-out in CWM.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. I am crazy frustrated as there must be something simple I am missing...?
If you follow the instructions exactly you can't go wrong. Forget what you think you know. Bonsai is totally different than other roms out there...

I was having problems after installing bonsai, force closes, no call sounds, ect. I copied all the files on the sd card to pc and formated th sd card. I only put the bonsai rom on the sd card and then flashed. Put files that I wanted back on card after and everything is great. If all else fails try it, I have seen it work on several different epics.

Did you update to EC05 with the "over the air" update? If so, there has been a lot of issues with that.
Yes, best to go back to eb13 prerooted with CWM3 and then go to Bonsai.
So am I reading that Bonsai 4 is incompatible w/ EC05?
I have gotten Bonsai up an running while on EB13, but no such luck since upgrading to EC05. I am not using the OTA update.
I have also heard that there may be issues w/ CWM 3 and EC05?
Any insights?

Bonsai 4.0.0+ is a EC05 ROM. It uses Framework and kernel source of EC05(heavily modded of course just like the other EC05 ROM's). But I too have been reading many reports from folks having issues flashing ROMs from stock EC05. Not sure if Sprint/Samsung has thrown some kind of roadblock in there or if it's something we are missing here, but it doesn't matter how you get there. If you are on EB13 when you flash Bonsai 4.0.1+ it will update the modem for you, so it's not necessary to be on EC05 when you flash the ROM.
As far as CWM goes, the Epic community is in need of an official version of CWM 3.
I got it to work!
Odin'd back to stock, completed stock upgrade to EB13, then installed CMW 3 and flashed Bonsai 4.0.1.
I did have to reflash Bonsai once in CWM, but I am now up and running on Bonsai 4.0.1 on the EC05 Kernal and loving it!
Thank you very much for your assistance.
