[Q] Wifi disappeared after using the built in tether CM7 - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hi
Being a passive user I am not allowed to post in the developers section even if this clearly is a bug report.
Anyway: Installed the new CM7 which was flying - and great in every way for about a day (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068766)
Then I tried the wifi tether which also worked fine. However, when I came home and turned off the tether and on the wifi it looked for networks for about a minute before closing down the wifi again without having found any networks. The only mention of a problem looking like this one in that thread advices to delete /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf - a file that I do not have after the latest upgrade.
Anyone have a hint of what to try? I could of reinstall, but it seems kind of stupid. I have tried deleting dalvik. Have tried to take out battery for a minute and have tried to go back to a system backup from titanium.
Strange huh?
Ketil

Deleting data "solved" it
Hi again
I decided to delete data/reset the phone from the boot menu and it now works again. I will not attempt the wifi tether function again for a while though...
Does it work for others?
all the best
Ketil

Hm - with no apparent reason it fails again... Annoying!
Ketil

Ok
Just in case anyone else experience the same problem: It was finally solved after hours of irritation by manually installing from market rather than through titanium backup. It must have been some old settings from oxygen that conflicted with cm7 that screwed it up for me. Now I am a happy cm7 user!

WiFi-Tether: your phone is currently in an unknown state - try to reboot

Hey Guys.
I have a rooted HTC Hero, with the Modaco 2.2 Rom.
The smartphone worked perfect, but since yesterday I have the following Problem:
I started "wifi tether for Root users" for the first time and it worked without problems. But when i wanted to stop it, the phone said
"your phone is currently in an unknown state - try to reboot"
And the the WiFI tether Log says:
" Unloading wlan.ko module...
rmmod: delete_module 'wlan'failed
(erno11) "
This is probably the reason of my biggest Problem:
My wlan doesn't work anymore.
I can see all the networks around me, but when I want to connect, the Hero always says that there is a connection failure
Rebooting : no success
Wipe: no success
Flash the Radio 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18 again: no success
Flash the Custom Rom : no success
Does anybody know what I could do ?
Perhaps Unloading the wlan module manually ?
(i don't know how i should do that )
I woud be very very happy if you could help me
Same issue as you here. Started WifiTether to play around with it and when I shutted it down I got same message. After that I was browsing on the phone a bit and I noticed my hero getting really warm. Was wondering what it was and then I noticed that my fully charged battery had gone down from fully charged to 60% in 10 minutes!
I rebooted everything and everything was ok again. Think I will stick to built-in tethering through usb for now.
I get that error when stopping tethering too, but it seems to have no ill-effects for me - I can still connect to other networks fine, my battery usage seems normal, the phone isn't warm, etc.

Same issue as you, but again, doesn't seem like it is still on as phone not showing any signs of use, heat etc...
Seems like it is disconnected, it just doesn't know
as a side question, why would you want to use that? you know tethering is built into the default software, yes?
I just wanted to post a note for anyone else who might have trouble with the "Wireless Tether for Root Users" app on cyanogen mod 4.1.99 or 4.1.999 where it gives the the "unknown state" message.
I gave up on trying to get the version on the market working, uninstalled it, and then downloaded the "experimental" version on the dev site at:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
and it is working perfectly now.
I just thought I would post this in case others have the same problem and are searching for a solution (I could not find one and tried this out of desperation).
Thanks!
@joquarky
THANKS!!!
This is my priority for the evening and you made it super simple
It did help, a lot!!!!
I thank you for taking the time to post it man
appreciate it

Problem with internet connectivity on Aria.

Hey all,
I've got this odd problem with my Aria running Cyanogen 7.1 with Drowing's kernel.
Consistently throughout the day while moving from place to place where I either have Wifi, strong 3g connections, or both, that I will lose internet connectivity until I reboot which will restore both internet and sync/facebook capabilities. At first I attributed the problem to Juice Defender messing with wifi and 3g disabling so I uninstalled it. After today though, I realize the problem must be something else because the exact same thing happened.
I have yet to try doing a data wipe and re-installing 7.1, but I will if it could fix the problem.
There have been many reported data issues (in the kernel's thread and the nightlies' thread) with the later builds of CM7 using that kernel.
You should be able to simply flash the CM7 ROM on top of your current installation, without wiping anything, which will revert you back to the default kernel. It's not clear why but when the Android version number bumped up to 2.3.7, DC's kernel has caused data problems for some people. You shouldn't need to wipe any data to correct the problem, but you will have to stop using the kernel -- at least until someone figures out why it's happening.
Gratitude for the replies.
I was getting that paranoid Windows itch that something was just not feeling right so I wiped everything and re-installed 7.1. Surprisingly without the kernel I haven't had any issues with the internet problem described above and the phone is actually performing better than ever. I am interested in finding out exactly why that happens, but I can live without it.
Thanks again guys!

The developer is as well.
I'm still having this issue with the stock kernel. Does anyone know which was the last nightly that didn't suffer from this?

I have not had any data issues with any nightly using the stock kernel. You could re-flashing your current one (or later if possible).
I found that any 3rd party apps that control Wifi (Scanners and such) tend to permanently disable/make me unable to connect until I reboot.

I've been running the latest nightlies during this time but I haven't reformatted in probably 2 months.
I went into my router and gave the Aria a reserved DHCP address 4 days ago. Since then the data hasn't dropped out a single time. Maybe dhcp is part of the problem?

Bell Atrix , lost wifi, bluetooth and rebooting lots

Hey,
My phone started acting up after 1 month of upgrading to gb 2.3.6. My wifi and bluetooth wont turn on and my phone constantly reboots. I used CWM and did a full wipe. and flasehd the darkside ROM. Still i have the same issue.
Does anyone know what do I need to do to get my phone working?
Thanks
A friend of mine has the same problem, Im pretty sure thats a hardware issue already. !
running gb 2.3.6 #4 - still no wifi/bluetooth
Having the same issues. Does anyone know if wifi and BT share an antennae?
try flashing a differnt radio? for your phone specs
look in ihop thread or fruit cake thread for your radios

I'm pretty sure this is a hardware issue... I have been having this problem myself, and have tried flashing many of ROM and Radio's since it has reared it's ugly head - all to no avail. The WiFi an Bluetooth do share the same Broadcom chip... maybe there's enough of us experiencing the problem that we can collaboratively order a dozen of these things (they only seem to sell in bulk).
Had the same issue, ATT had to replace the phone.
Any more news on this issue?
Same thing happened to my Atrix last week (Bell, 2.3.6, locked bootloader, unrooted).
Same here
Same problem on my original Atrix, which was replaced under warranty by AT&T six months ago. Recently my replacement Atrix has been having the same problem. Wifi won't enable and frequent reboots.
Although the phone should still be under the 1-year warranty, AT&T refuses to honor it because the screen is cracked (so much for Gorilla glass).
After getting two phones with the same problem, and hearing about countless others having the same problem, and getting screwed out of the warranty, this is definitely my last Motorola phone.
EDIT:
The "fix" that was originally posted here doesn't actually work. I'm almost certain that this is a hardware problem. As of now there is no software fix, if one even exists.
Check this thread for more info:
https://forums.motorola.com/posts/0c2f1387d6
I recommend that you post to acknowledge you have the same problem.
i tried the script and it tells me "oops... did NOT find wpa_supplicant.conf! any help?
cafe. said:
I found a permanent solution to the problem. It was probably more obvious than I originally thought it would be. This is probably what will fix it if you recently ran some sort of 3G tweak as it probably damaged/corrupted /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf. Before I get started with what what problems my phone was having:
-'Wifi Error' message when enabled
-Random reboots when trying to enable wifi
-Bluetooth worked fine (and if you are having issues with bluetooth it may be due to a similar bluetooth related file having problems)
-Impossible to fix by flashing new roms, wiping/factory reset, and virtually every other possible thing I tried
So, just before giving up, I found something called 3Gturbocharger--which can be downloaded from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18703418&postcount=5021 REMEMBER: IT'S 3GTURBOCHARGER, NOT ANY OF THE OTHER SIMILARLY NAMED FILES.
Now, the value of the script isn't really in the "tweaks" it provides, but rather the easy way it provides to reset the file of interest (/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf). Run the script using "script manager" as root, once you've done this you'll be able to run a feature within the script called Wi-fixer. Run it and reboot. The problems should all be corrected. You could also try to manually navigate to 'data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf' and simply rename it to whatever you want (as the script does), at which point the old file will be replaced by a newly generated one.
I'm assuming that in your case the bluetooth equivalent of "wpa_supplicant.conf" was corrupted. Possibly /data/misc/bluetooth/dynamic_auto_pairing.conf or /data/misc/bluetooth/incoming_connection.conf. Worth a shot trying the method I described on those files as well. Try it out, you've got nothing to lose.

im getting that to
My Atrix wifi stopped working in the past, but started working again. It currently stopped working once more, giving me an Error if I turn it on. The Bluetooth has never had issues and still works, I am a month past warranty but with unlocked BL it doesn't matter anyway. This seems to be a slight issue with these phones unfortunately.
I could live with the phone without wifi, but the constant reboots are unavoidable. I notice that when I originally boot the phone, if I use it and keep the screen on it works, but as soon as I turn the screen off, it reboots. Odd to me.
Ya I have the Bell Atrix myself and I'm still on Froyo because of complaints of GB. (especially battery life) Maybe I'll do ICS, but I'll wait for some reviews since its not that easy to go backwards as say my OG SGS...

Anyone try doing this manually? I can't locate the file.
wpa_supplicant file
hi, the file is in etc/wifi and the bluetooth file is in etc/bluetooth/ i renamed the .conf files but this don't solved the problem.

Re: [ROM][NIGHTLY] CyanogenMod 9 for Motorola Milestone 2 (Android 4.0.4)

Re: [ROM][NIGHTLY] CyanogenMod 9 for Motorola Milestone 2 (Android 4.0.4)
This is kinda sad, that I can't reply directly to the ROM thread, but here it is, I just hope someone will tell them, or see it to adress these problems correctly:
There's a couple of problems with this ROM. First of all it loses the data connection after sometime of inactivity. Browser won't load anything, asking to check the connection. Going to settings -> data usage -> mobile data switch -> turning it off and then on solves the problem, but it's kind of annoying to do that five to six times a day.
Secondly - just after flashing this ROM keyboard backlight was working fine. But after installing the gapps it stopped. Just won't work. ((
Third(ly))) - Apollo app crashes at random when trying to listen to podcast/music from sdcard. Also annoying. Disabling data connection seem to solve the issue tho as it stopped crashing yesterday.
Fourth - some sensor shanannigans when you're trying to use chrome (games are fine with it) while charging. Random zoom-ins and stuff.
Fifth - and most terrifying. Sometimes it loops, as if I was repeatedly taping the screen at the center or somewhere near it. Can't even reboot when it happens. Power button to lockscreen seem to solve the issue.
Otherwise this ROM is smooth and good and I like it a lot. Using it for a few months now.
Big thanks.

The Data connexion loss is a recuring bug for some, mostly people who have a Carrier that use roaming (ie : use another's carrier's network). No known fix for know, but some people seems to have it working "better" by disabling data roaming/national data roaming in options, but it's not for everyone, since some carriers require that to be toggled for data to work.
For the Backlight on the keyboard, be sure to check if the automatic gestion of automatic backlight is activated, it's required for it to work. There is too a "fix" for the problem in the last 5/6 pages of the main topic from memory, but don't recall it exactly, so you'll have to dig to try it.
No idea about Apollo, but it seems to have quite some quirks, and most people use other players so not sure about it, maybe start by checking the Apollo dev's page and market comments to be sure it's not related to Apollo but to the ROM.
The "random sensor shennanigans" while charging is something that happens to a lot of people, i think it's a multi touch bug from the kernel, but not sure (ie : not really solvable by the dev, unless he finds a way to remake tezet's fix (i think it was tezet) or we all use CH kernel since it seems the bug isn't there in this kernel [ wtb a way to use custom kernels :/]).
Your last problem is a weird bug, probably linked to the ROM, but i must admit it'll be hard to pinpoint, since i don't have it but my brother do, while both phones are the exact same model, and flashed the same, in the same order, with the same sbf/rom versions and so on.
I guess you can try to make a full wipe/factory reset (only backuping data you REALLY need to keep like contacts/sms/call log and so on) and redo your phone config, because as far as i know, the only difference between my phone and my brother's is that i had to did that again after i screwed up a couple times, installing an app that was bricking the phone (took me a few wipes to identify it), it might be the reason why i don't have it and he does, or not.

[Q] NexusHD2 ICS v2.7 - Data connection problem

Never posted in these forums before, since I've never suffered any problems with my HD2 until now. So I will post it my way.
Background info:
I have been using tytung's Android ROMS since he was developing Froyo, starting with MAGLDR. Since then I've been constantly upgrading to his next releases. When cLK eventually got stable (around the latest stable GB releases I think), I switched over to that bootloader. Not having any problems. When ICS finally got it's HWA fully working I switched over to this. I had never encountered any problems with my phone ever, which I am greatly thankful for... That was until now.
My problem:
Approx a week after installing tytung's NexusHD2 ICS v2.7, I started having problems with the phone's data connection in general. When I turn on the phone, it MAY get signal to my data carrier. Sometimes I do, other times I don't. I can try to put the phone in "Plane mode", and back to normal. But that has the same effect as when i turn off/on the phone. Other times when the signal bar shows that I either have full or 50% signal (two dots), I am not able to call, send sms nor browse the internet at all. WTF!? I have tried disabling the WiFi but this has no effect. When I search for data providers(carriers?), I may find all of them after two minutes of searching, I'll find none OR it will search for ever and never come to any conclusion.
Searching:
I have searched through nearly the whole developement thread, and also searched through this Q&A thread, but I can't find anyone who suffers the exact same problems as me. There are some threads and problems similar to mine, but none of their "fixes" has killed the problem for me.
What I have tried:
- Tried the WiFixerFree-solution
- Tried different (older) kernels
- Tried flashing older tytung releases (2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6)
- Did a fresh install
- Extending the system partition (in case of bad blocks)
no success
I don't think this has anything to do with tytung's newest release. It's just weird that this recently started happening, especially after working so good for so long. Does anyone have any clue on what I can do now?
Disassemble your phone and make sure the antenna tabs are touching the contacts,I did this and sure enough one was not touching. After reassembling, full signal was restored.

Omg found the stupidest solution to this irritating one week-long problem.
I tried to extend the system partition even further. Weird that this solution rarely have come up as an option in the forums.
Hope this is helpful to anyone else who may suffer the data drop-problem.
EDIT: Nope... Just a temporarily solution. I can't understand why this should have something to do with the hardware, when I haven't done anything that could harm the phone in any way. But I'll do it asap, and report back. Thank you for the tip.
The 3g connection not working and I can't even use the gprs and I can't enter APNs to let the phone access the internet please please please help me
Now I can use the internet only through the Wi-Fi connection!!!!

Any good news? I have this problem also, after flashing 2.7. I have restored my HD2 back to my previous backup, but still suffering this problem.
The 3G/H signal jumps between 0 ~ 4 bars, but most of the cases it has 0 bar, then switches to edge. If the internet get disconnected, it cannot reconnect automatically. have to turn off data and back on to connect to the internet.
I flash the latest radio, no help. reflash the sd card, no help. reformat the phone, no help.
The last thing i want to try is to part my phone and reconnect the data antenna

if nothing helps/i break my HD2, then it is time to buy a new phone.
Reporting back. Just installed int2ext+, and can report back that after only 3 minutes of use that my data dropped... again. I were not able to call, and neither send sms or anything.
I will get the needed tools to disassemble my phone and TRY to fix the connections. When this is done I will report back again.
Thanks for all tips I have gotten so far! I love this community!
Fffffffffffffffff
NAH! Just disassembled my phone and straightened up the pin that was the problem for this guy
After 2 minutes of uptime, the signal dropped to two bars, then after ten more seconds it dropped to zero... Now it is back to "normal", doing random bumps from 0, to two to four bars. Soooo... f*uck
The pins were my problem, I only have data dropout when going into the market or sending/receiving MMS's now.
i have similar problem too.after using wifi tethering. 3g IS not working anymore till reboot. sometimes 3g automatically change to 2g and vice versa
Any solution?
