Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me, I have a major speakerphone issue! When I enable speakerphone, the other party cannot hear me. I tried different ROMs but that didn't change anything. However, voice recording and voice commands are working just fine. I'm wondering if there is something I can do? Or does it mean that I have a physical defect?

Have you searched for apps in the market for apps that check the functionality of the parts of your phone? Or you can go to a service center and they can check it. For example, I have ATT, and my first Sony Ericsson phone was messed up and I had to get it checked at their service center. They have ways of checking stuff like that I think.

Thanks for your answer. I couldn't find an app specifically for that. Also, I bought it from someone, so no warranty
Thing is, I refuse to believe its defective, seeing as I'm able to record sound and use voice dialer. That would use the same mic as the speakerphone, no?
Also, I did another test where I created a loud noise near the mic and I was able to hear it on the other phone, but very very low volume. Could it be that something is messed up with the volume?
Is there a way to do a full format of my phone, just to test?
Thanks.
Well, it does seem that my secondary mic is screwed up.
Anyone know if there's a way to force speakerphone to use the primary mic instead?
It would just pick up sound from the speaker and echo

So I guess I'm SOL? Damn it.
Would motorola honour the warranty if I don't have the receipt?

They might. You can also see if the can take a receipt or paper of a bank statement when you bought the phone.

Yes, I do have this rather strange issue.
It happens rather often that when someone calls me, I can hear the speak or their background sound prior to answering their call...
Indeed, one might think that this is a great bug, that could be turned into a feature, but it's rather awful thinking that one might hear me speak, before he answers my call...
Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

If you can hear what's going on at the other end of the line before you answer your call then you need to send your phone back to your manufacturer immediately.

could you please detail?
how would that help, since Vodafone will most likely exchange my phone to another HD2 which will probably have the same issue?
Moreover, in order to exchange, I'll need to demonstrate them this issue. And since it's not a regular-occuring issue (sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't), it will be hard to prove anything...

If you can hear what is going on at the other end of the line before you answer the phone (I assume you still have the ringtone at this point?) then that is a hardware failure and the phone needs to be replaced.
you could be paying for that time and as no-one else has the problem then your unlikley to get it as a recurrent fault on the next handset.

Got the same 'problem' I don't see it as a real problem though. You usually don't pay when you're the one getting called.

Agreed- if you can hear the other party before you 'answer' then it suggests the device is auto-answering. Once you can hear the other side, the line has connected regardless of whether you still hear the ringtone.
All WinMo devices have an 'auto answer' facility but it should only kick in when connected to a car kit, and even thgen only when specifically selected in Options.
This is not a common fault- indeed I've never heard of it before in any of my 8 years of supporting WM devices, so report it to Vodafone; at least it will then be on record that you have reported it.
I know that this topic comes up again and again but wht has nothign been done about it? When I call SE they don't acknowledge that there is a problem - has nobody else contacted them about this?
My phone is not rooted - has anyone who has rooted their phone increased the volume? Is there a solution anywhere out there?!

I was going just say WHAT???? I can't hear you! but that would just be mean
I'm up to 026 rooted and the volume seems the same to me. Only good news is that using a Bluetooth earpiece solves the problem ... now if only I could use the BT to voice dial.
the actual volume of the speaker is pretty decent, like when your in test mode you can hear a significant difference. I guess some idiot at SE decided to keep it low.

I bought a BT earpiece so I can use while driving and it does make the volume much better....I cant get the BT to "activate" voice dialling on the phone - should it be able to? Have you manage that? The voice dialer standard app on phone is a joke I still therefore have to dial the person I want to call and once that is started then the BT takes over....have you managed anything better than that?

Yes I know I have seen this....so why oh why oh why when SE must/should be aware of low volume havent they increased it instead of messing around with non-essential things like Creatouch/Timescape?
I just wish they would acknowledge the problem and let people know either they were going to fix it and if they cant fix it then i can get rid of the phone! Sp far they just seem to pretend it doesnt have a problem eg when calling customer services they say that nobody has reported any problems....
I have contacted se about this too. It is mt biggest stumbling block with this otherwise sound phone. Come on se FIX IT!
ear piece volume is for sure lot less than many phones I used. Much less than SE's own phones. I almost can't talk on it in noisy streets or I take out my bluetooth head set.
Unfortunately, I love the phone so much that I decided to adjust to several issues X10 has. When I first got the phone I had so many little issues with the phone that bothered be but over time I adapted myself to it

Android 1.6 doesn't do BT voice dial.
It might sound kinda stupid but make sure that the ear speaker is direct to your ear, which means that your ear will be covered by half the phone and not all of it ( unlike my previous nokia phones) pretty stupid I know but I hope it helps.

Sort of depends on the conditions you use it under. If you're in a conference room it would work better than if you're in a shopping mall.
I've had mobile phones since 1988 (22 years of wireless) and I can tell you that the X10 has the worst in call volume I've ever experienced.
I imagine that somebody at SE must be aware of this.

Count me in. But like I mentioned earlier I love the phone so much for it's style and so many other things that I decided to adapt to it. I use bluetooth in noisy places. I normally hate having bluetooth hang on my ear in public. So, I put it in my pocket and take it out when I get a call. Fortunately, there are not many calls I need to answer right away.
I too have this problem so I bought SE's MW600, well worth it but I hope they sort this problem soon.
My K800i had a fantasic earpiece sound quality and volume but my previous SE C905 was terrible and the X10i is worse still!

+1...It's a bit quieter than most other phones I've had, but conversations are still fine.
The way everyone's talking about it, it seems like a huge deal. I've heard that (it was about the Evo 4G because many people complain about call quality on it too) when custom ROMs can be booted, the devs can increase in-call volume.

maybe they said nobody has reported the problem because they couldn't hear the callers either. sorry, just couldn't resist that!
anyway, i do agree that this is the worst phone i've ever had in terms of caller volume. unless i'm in a quiet room, it's utterly useless. the only remedy i've found so far is to use the speaker phone, which is not a good solution at all!
while i do love the X10, if the issue still isn't resolved with the 2.1 upgrade, i may just go back to my old phone, because while the X10 is indeed quite smart, it sure as hell isn't much of a phone!
How can people honestly say this is not a problem?
We all have the in-call volume set to max and it's barely acceptable, set to half-way/normal which on many other devices would be sufficient and it's hardly audible unless you're in a library. Setting my Blackberry's in-call volume to max actually hurts my ears it's so loud! But ideally that's the kind of dynamic range in volume I'd like to see, no...hear SE implement.
If I had to guess, I would say that SE was having trouble finding a balance between finding an acceptable in call volume level and having a problem with echoing in calls. The louder the speaker is, the more susceptible it is to echo. There is no other reasonable explanation as to why its so low. Especially in a flagship phone. As a device, this phone is stellar, but as a phone, its pretty bad.
The last post basically echos my latest communique with SE. Their reply is below:
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre regarding your X10
Andriod 2.1 is due for release within Q3 of 2010, this may be subject to change however.
This should resolve the audio issues you have explained.

Looks like they know but are not too bothered about it! Certainly does not appear to be a priority............................
After years using nokia and symbian OS I decided to buy a new MOTOROLA DEFY+ MB526
after 1 week I would say great phone except for quality audio phone calls
I'll explain: during a call to someone sometimes i ear a tiny little buzz while the opposite phone ringing, then my partner has a voice at times seems a little metallic....
but the thing i hate is during the conversation I hear my own voice as echol ...
someone tells me that is a feature motorola the instant return of your own voice in the capsule, may like it or not .... there is the possibility to remove or change it ? is a software or hardware feature?
I tried to replace the sim with an other, but the same problem of the return of my voice
I then tried with skype .... and with surprise h, the problem disappears
instead the noise is likely to be charged instead to the area where work,
Let's see if I can do a restore of the phone
I think the problem is the second microphone to me, because if the microphone off during the call I hear the return of my voice
I've got 2 MB526 in my house and both have VERY pleasant voice sound. No echo, no metallic sounding... The sound is very clear and very natural. And it's set to normal, so I guess it can sound even more natural if set to that option.
I think you should send it to service, cause that ain't normal.

I really don't know, but I hope your new device will be okay!
i hope too
i hope it isn't a problem with all defy+ from germany with italian sim cards..
Check in settings - Call Settings - Voice quality.
- Tick the Balance mode to have better voice(balance - crystal sound)
- Or choose other option suit you in the list
Note: You may also increase or reduce the ear piece volume during a call to suit your hearing mood.
Also you may try disable in build.prop : ro.mot.hw.crystaltalk=1 to (0)
Skype normally wouldn't use the 2nd mic.. This 2nd mic is used for noise cancelling when in call mode specially thru the simcard service provider.
Now, I may wrong but this is something I understand though..
thanks

This method above must be on a rooted phone and access it in system/build.prop.
But I don't think it is necessary for you now since your device is not rooted yet.
Try first the other options I mentioned above and see if they do solved your earpiece issue.

So, since you'd narrow down your findings.. I think the only option now is to hit the road and make a visit to your nearest Motorola service center..
no
i said that i call the sellers of the phone AMAZON.DE and they said that they have send me a replacement, it will be thursday or friday in my hands
AMAZON.DE is very efficient
The new phone is already in my hands ....
first i charged the battery, insert the sim, I input my account MOTOBLUR etc .....
I tried to make a call .....
same problem, I hear the echo of my voice in the speaker phone, even turning off the microphone
so i tried to download and install skype .... no problem ...
so i'm very unlucky
what i have to do now? send the phone to motorola service? call AMAZON to send another phone?
ask AMAZON for a refund and then buy someyhing else?
i'm very angry
can you make a test for me? turn off the microphone during a call, place your hand between your mouth and the microphone and tried to speak, do you hear your voice?
i send my phone to motorola service
i'll wait 2 weeks for my repair....
i hope....

how can i made this?
i can't root because i have 2.3.6 build 231
if service will not solve the problem i'll change defy with sonyericsson xperia neo
Tonight I went to the Motorola shop where i leaved my defy+ to ship to service, because I had forgotten one thing from them, and I find that there has not been sent becuase the MB526 is not on their list but only defy MB525 and they wait an email from Motorola Service Italy to know how to record it;
the shopkeeper told to me that my phone with this serial number was produced in Tajikistan and has only 12 months warranty
after service the problem is the same
so now from a friend of mine, i have a motorola defy mb525 with the same problem
i have the WIUI 2.4.20
i try to find build.prop : ro.mot.hw.crystaltalk=1 to (0)
but there isn't this row...
My stock Defy+ M526 occasionally has this echo also, I've tried different voice quality settings but it makes no improvement. It doesn't always do it however.
Interestingly I used a friend's Samsung Galaxy Y the other day and noticed the exact same thing..... I never had it on my old ZTE Blade android though.
Right basically I got a g2 a couple of weeks ago and loved it but it started developing call issues where the person on the other end couldn't hear me very well or I sounded muffled (I swapped phones with someone during a call and it did sound awful) now I've tried the tutting noise cancellation thing of in call settings and a blast of compressed air.
but I was wondering if when I changed the battery a few days ago whether I may have dislodged something slightly and was wondering if anyone knew exactly where the mic was and what to look for. Now I don't mind changing the mic and everything else over as it was fairly easy doing the battery but thought I'd ask on here before ordering more parts

I'd like to see a software patch that disables google now when a call is in progress... Pointless to be talking to someone and they hear you say "ok google" anyway... Maybe the solution is on Google's side of the equation. Shouldn't google be able to make some code telling the service to stop when a call is in progress, then reactivate once the call has ended? The service is pretty much useless during a call anyway, unless you want the other party to hear what you're searching google for.

I wonder what else it had messed up as I noticed since turning it off I've got track info back on my car stereo when I connect my phone, like you said gotta be a Google fix and not lg, no point having it if it is gonna cause issues
Guys, since my 6p, almost every call I make or receive, the person on the other end tells me that they are hearing what they said back. It's like an echo of what they said. I head them perfect and no issues on my end.
Anyone else having this issue?
And to add, I'm trying calls with and without case and it doesn't make a difference. Sometimes the echo for the person on the other end goes away after few minutes but most of the time it stays for the entire conversation. I also just today tried whatsapp call but same issue. Very frustrating as everything else on the phone is perfect.
I had this yesterday on WhatsApp
Any ideas? I sure can't be the only one out there with this issue.
It's a typical Google mic cancellation issue like the nexus 5 had. It will never be fixed.

Doesn't look so typical as Internet/forum search brings nothing being reported regarding this on Nexus 6p. Don't care what's on Nexus 5.
The problem is specific to callers on the other end of the phone hearing themselves back when they speak.
I have had the same issues. To fix I lower my volume all the way down then they say it's fine. The other option is to use speakerphone. I did read somewhere people are using their finger to cover the mic hole on the back. I'll try that today.

Here is the best temporary fix. Use a headset with a built in mic.
Also, calls over internet are more likely to get echo. Try a regular phone call, no Google voice and such either, just a regular sim number based call.

Covering the mic hole did help but if my volume was to high it would still do it. It's like the sound vibrations are getting picked up through the phone. Anyways I am rooted and romed. I may look into turning noise cancellation off.
I'm personally having this issue only when the back casing are attached to the phone or when i accidentally cover the back mic with my finger
Posting an update. It seems doing either one of the below fixes the echo callers on the other end are hearing:
1. Cover the mic at the back top of the phone during the call
2. Or Lower the volume to like half or three quarters of the way
I prefer option 2 and all is fine now.

Long term have you had issues in busy places like airports, bars/restaurants? Do people complain of too much noise around you with noise cancelling turned off?
the issue is still persist even after the June OTA. is there any way we can contact Google or Huawei to fix this issue permanently ?
I really love the phone but this issue is frustrating as it is a basic need in any phone. phone calls must be ok. how it can be fixed without root ?
It might be due to phones calls over the internet such as advanced calling on Verizon...I had this issue too a while back but I read somewhere this could be the issue do I turned off of advanced calling(calling over the internet so while I'm on a call I can use the internet over 4g). This is quite annoying since I sometimes do need to use internet while I'm on a call but I think the echo problem is worse.
So far no one has complained about an echo since I turned off advanced calling when before purplpeople would complain or stop talking about every call. Hope this helps
