You can also choose to just freeze it, all the benefits of uninstalling without losing your twlauncher. Titanium Backup Pro, MyBackupPro and my personal favorite: ROM Toolbox can just freeze apps.

Thank you very much.
I uninstalled twlauncher by titanium backup... then I did a stupid thing.
I'm wondering if I uninstall go launcher too, is there the default android launcher? so...I uninstalled the go launcher.
Now, the phone can not boot, stop at SAMSUNG logo screen. It looks I have to refresh the ROM.

if you know how to use ADB you can push a launcher apk back onto the phone from your PC.

yes. Google for info on how to download and set it up - it's part of the development sdk package.

Launcher pro rom

I have noticed all the roms that remove blur seem to use adw launcher. I don't care for it much and was wondering if its possible to remove it and replace it with launcher pro because I would like to only have one launcher so that the other isn't running in the background....Just curious of the best way to do this....i do have titanium so I could freeze it just looking for the best option, any help is appreciated....thanks in advance

I always install LauncherPro, then restore my backup from the preferences menu, then uninstall all other launchers using Titanium Backup.
Just make sure you install a new launcher before you delete or freeze all you others. I'm currently running rubiX Focused and my only launcher is LPP

i think a more efficient way may be, using root explorer, going to /data/apps finding com.fede.launcher1.apk and moving it to your /system/app folder, renaming LauncherPro.apk, renaming other launcher to whateverstocklauncheris.apk.bak. Then reboot your phone and its like launcher pro is your stock launcher with nothing else running in the background! enjoy

Either way is fine..delete or rename adw launcher with root explorer or use titanium backup and uninstall ...does the same thing really.
Cheers! Good to see people helping others so quickly
Thanks for the quick reply....you guys are awesome

Tried this in Tranquility 3.5 and it broke the TranQ Toolbox. Oh well.

Would this help speed up the boot time, since until the SD card has been mounted by lpp, the system hangs after unlock. If lpp were to be the only and first launcher running, maybe it'd get this started or done sooner in the process

I did this with Fission 2.2.2 and it runs perfect. Faster than the original luncher. Removed the original, and no problems, rebooted the phone since the change, boots faster also.
Ive found that having launcher pro installed on my system when i make a nandroid makes it impossible to use the nandroid (system part atleast)... I dont know if anyone else has experience this... I still install LP on my system I just make my nandroids before touching the system now... This is kind of a funky problem I've only now been starting to run in to =/
Also, in regards to removing the Tranq launcher while using the Tranq 3.5 rom - the tranq toolbox relies on the tranq launcher for elements of the framework much like Blur widgets and htc sense widgets do with their launchers... if u want to use the tool box while removing Tranq launcher from system memory, you will need to freeze the tranq launcher with titanium backup... this is one of TiBackups coolest features in my opinion... using the freeze feature in Ti removes the app from system memory, meaning it takes 0 cpu or ram and does not appear in the app droor. While the program is not installed, other programs which ARE installed can still call on the application file for the elememnts they need to run... Enjoy

Properly restoring.

Can someone tell me the proper way to fully restore all apps using titanium backup and google restore?
Should I allow google to restore what it can and then let Titanium backup do the rest? When I tried this way it seemed that TB didnt restore all of my app information (such as game progress). When I tried to skip the google restore and let TB do all the work, it restored everything but now none of my apps show up in the market so I dont think they will show updates.

On titanium backup, hit menu and go to batch. Restore all apps with data.
DO NOT RESTORE SYSTEM DATAThat will ruin the ROM or mod or whatever you did

I did this and my apps don't show up in the market so I don't think they will show updates. Also this method doesn't restore my settings for the OS.

Can you explain how to do this? Right now I have all my apps restored but they don't show up in market.
I was thinking let android do a restore of my apps first and then run TB to restore all the settings but I dont think it will restore settings of apps that are already installed.

Firgured it out.
I wiped, loaded new rom, startup screen up restored all apps from android backup. Then loaded up and restored "app data only" for all my apps.
I now have all my apps installed, all their info was retained, and they all show up in the market.
The only thing that didnt get fully restored was my home screens and all the settings in the main settings app.

If you're using ADW, you can back up your settings right from ADW settings.
If you're not using ADW.....I'm sorry.
Will adw backup my home screens and system settings?

Everything within ADW, yes.
I usually do the titanium restore first thing then after a while the market catches up, some of my apps are side loaded so it saves alot of trouble. Adw Is great for restoring screen transitions, rows and columns etc.

[WORKAROUND] Can't defrost frozen apps with titanium backup on KL7

Took me some time to find a solution, a lot of googling,
eventually I found this magic post
And I thought it deserves a better spotlight.
1. Copy /data/system/packages.xml to your PC. (or edit it somehow...)
2. Edit it, find the line with your app name that looks something like :
Code:
<package name="com.sec.android.app.samsungapps" codePath="/data/app/com.sec.android.app.samsungapps-1.apk" nativeLibraryPath="/data/data/com.sec.android.app.samsungapps/lib" flags="1" ft="134880eb380" it="11b7e237e00" ut="134880eb753" version="26114" userId="10039" enabled="false">
3. This line freezes samsung apps, which I wanted to desfrost to make S-Choice work. Change the false, to true > Save.
4. Copy the file back to the phone.
5. Contact titanium backup author and report this bug.
Reboot, Enjoy.
PS - I did not find the solution myself, I am just making a solution found by olympicchicken More readable and searchable.
I too have been having the problem with not being able to unfreeze system apps. What worked for me is to uninstall the frozen app from within Titanium BU (be sure to have a backup before uninstalling). Then just reboot and was able to restore the app through Titanium BU.
Don't know if it made any difference but I had done the app backup in Titanium before I froze it in the first place.

I didn't backup any of the system apps I froze before freezing, hence if I would have deleted them, I would have been deleting the only apk copy i had of them.
Could somebody please check their /data/system/packages.xml for the line referencing "com.sec.android.app.controlpanel" (Task Manager) and post this entire line for me?
I've stupidly uninstalled it and TB can't restore it from backup as the line is missing.
Cheers.

Even if you have an app frozen you can still select backup. Then uninstall the app, reboot, and restore the app.

That didn't work as TB just hangs when trying to restore. I don't have a nandroid backup so if someone can post that line then I can at least fix it manually.
A simpler way to locate the particular line is by searching for "false" will keep showing all the frozen apps ) much faster too
I can confirm the uninstall and restore method worked for me..
I had frozen all three samsung app services(app, account, una) and I wanted to unfreeze them because of the free Dead Space and Modern Combat offers and I couldn't unfreeze them..
So as they were already frozen I made a back up of them, uninstalled them, reboot and restore them.. Worked like a charm..
Thanks guys.
I also try to contact the TITANIUM BACKUP developer informing about this bug... but not update avaible for the moment!
The file-edit method did not work for me. However, the uninstall/restore did. You have to convert system apps to user apps to backup them first, but it's quick and easy.
Possible solution

Back up stock launcher

Does anyone know how to back up the stock launcher settings, mainly the homescreen layouts and folders, so that they can be restored after (re)installing a ROM?

Titanium Backup does this, but be aware that if you install a from with a different launcher version, it will not work.

If you open Titanium Backup and go to the backup/restore tab and back everything up, all of you launcher settings (Desktop and it"s contents) are saved. This is because your desktop launcher is an app. Now to clarify what my beware statement was; if you are on Honeycomb and do a backup, then flash an ICS rom, your saved Launcher settings will not work because the Launcher in ICS is version 4.0.3 while the launcher in Honeycomb was 3.x.x. As far as TiBu is concerned they are different apps and you do not have a backup for the newer version. Now if you are using ADW or Launcher Pro it will work just fine. If you are doing updates on say Eos Nightlies for ICS your backups for the app [Desktop] Launcher 4.0.3 are the settings for the stock launcher and should be restorable. You can also install the ICS Launcher that Cyanogen is creating called Trebuchet and do backups and restores of your desktop with this as well. I hope this helps. Let me know if this does or doesn't make sense to you.
Note: I don't mean to insult your intellegence, but just in case. To restore an app in TiBu, on the backup/restore tab, press whichever app you want to restore and a menu will pop up with options, among those options is restore (That is, of course, if you have done a backup previously). Make sure before you flash any other ROM that everything showing in TiBu has a current backup. Easiest way to do this is while in the backup/restore tab, press menu/batch and about the fifth option down should be "Backup all user apps + system data" . Press the "RUN" button next to this line.

[Q] Google News & Weather app not restoring with Titanium Backup Pro

So I updated the Google New & Weather app to check out the new update but decided I liked the old one better. I had made a Titanium Backup of the old version before updating and was able to restore the old version with no problem until I had to reboot my phone. After the reboot, the News & Weather app completely disappeared so I tried to reinstall with Titanium Backup and and now it won't install. I'm assuming because it was a system app? I've tried several times and Titanium just hangs on the reinstalling screen and once I even left it for about an hour and a half. Any ideas to get the old version reinstalled? Thanks.

the apk you can find simply by googling the right search terms. i originally found it that way within seconds. anyways, you can restore the nandroid backup and move/copy the app that way.

I was hoping to reinstall using what I already have. But I did find the apk, put in the correct place with the correct permissions rebooted and still doesn't work. I even found a flashable zip and that didn't work, nandroid didn't work, titianium backup didn't work. Nothing seems to work, I do appreciate your help though.
