I like X8
The unbeatable price, functionality and the design

It's small and discrete. A perfect phone to listen to music when you take the bus, and with a great sound quality when you connect it to your stereo car.
And the fact that with custom ROM it moves faster than my future sister-in-law's X8 (she has it with stock ROM) and faster than other Android devices that I've seen in people around.

I like video recording...clear..

The relationship -> size/price

Yea its the price and what can we get of it
There is the thing...all tweaking, configuration its an intetesting process ;D

i like the camera, it looks really great ... and also the normal music player

i love my X8 . .
overall its all good... the speed , functionality , games , surfing and good camera recording . . really good phone...

btw
everyone who wants to be added in x8 group on skype is welcome! i already made a thread
my nickname: uvitis12
so than there we can discuss and share!
and i love powerAmp player its the best and our phone is enough good to run it smoothly

In phone... Price... and only this...
In community... Epic x8 developers
Before x8 I had Nokia 5230 and sometimes I'm missing that phone... It had better camera (photos was 1312321313123x better then made by x8) and better screen resolution (640x480).

Sound quality, Cheap price, the design, surfing the internet! And apps for sure!

easy to install custom rom and overclock

For one, the price, its size (I hate the fact that the majority of smartphones are huge, might as well get a freaking tablet), the lovely design and the surprisingly active community that have gone beyond SE in terms if what our x8 can do.

[Q] Sony Xperia Arc Opinions

The Arc looks like a fantastic all around phone in that it has great clear/loud sound/with mega bass. I wonder if this phone is using the Wolfson chip.
Takes great pictures in low light/video is smooth/Hdmi mirroring. Very smooth UI and great colors on the screen.
It has a single core Qualcomm Scorpion MSM8255 processor. I realize its not a Dual Core phone but since they are just entering the market I would prefer to go with a single core 2nd generation phone.
I was thinking of getting the Samsung Galaxy S II but Samsung is still doing updates on the first Galaxy S and I don't trust them re updates.
Sony has stated that they did not handle updates for the X10 very well but promise to do a lot better with updates in regards to the Arc,I believe them.
Furthermore bigger isn;t always better.(Dual Core Vs Single Core)
In the end I want a phone that has clarity/volume in regards to phone calls/Great Camera/Good Video/can play games on it.
Would love to hear your opinions on the Arc Pro/Con.
how could you believe a thief when he tells you he won't steal anything anymore...

I'm looking for opinions on this phone not looking for stuff like you can never trust a thief.
Its not using wolfson chip.
The camera is about as good or maybe 5% better than the X10's. (check GSMArena photocompare)
The Bravia Engine works only with pictures or videos. Rest of the time its just like any other TFT LCD.
Internal memory is a measly 500 mb.
I personally don't think the Arc justifies its price tag, the Neo has everything the Arc has but at a much cheaper price.
Oh and like the X10, it will take months to crack the bootloader, so no custom ROMs.

apparently this is not the case. The hard lockdown on devices in the past has made it hard even for SE to upgrade the phones. The new phones are said to have a more open bootloader to make it easier to update
+1 for the Neo (how could SE have stuffed up and not given their flagship model a front facing camera.. but given the cheaper model the same fancy new screen and camera chip and also given it a Front camera!) are they really that stupid?
I'm going buy an HTC or Samsung next..and if not them a motorola.. after those choices.. I might consider a Neo
Kiwi
And so here I am on a brand new Arc. Had it for a day or so and must say it's been very smooth so far. My latest phone was an X10i so this is not terribly different...
Anyway, first impressions are very good. Great screen. Native Exchange integration is perfect (except I can't sort contacts by other than first name, believe this is an Android quirk). WiFi tethering was very smooth. DLNA was hitch-free. In-call sound quality is very good, I'd say better than the other Xperias I've had (apparently it has a little mic that takes up background noice to cancel it out, though I think I'll need to fly with a head-set to experience this properly). Why they've switched the "menu" and "back" buttons around I can't understand for the love of me, but maybe there's a reason...
Overall, with my short experience it's been great, so far. Certainly a phone I would recommend to any non-X10 user and probably to those that have X10s, as well.
Cheers for now/M

oh wow, I just actually clicked on the video LOL I know that person personally since he's in Thailand. Like both him/I said, wait for the final firmware. That unit he has is still a very early prototype, no where near the final. Some of the hardware isn't even implemented yet, you can tell which . Cheers

look, when you talking about you don't trust sgs which is only 3 months younger than x10 and got 2.2 update almost the same time as x10 got 2.1, and knowing that SE announced x10 would never receive 2.2 but samsung never claim they won't provide further version, but then you said you trust in SE?
i don't think you need any oppinion at all.

Got to play the arc, neo and play last night, and I also saw the arc at CES. Its certainly improved since then, and huggee fast first time round.
One thing I noticed is that the widget overview is now smooth, no lag like before.
As for neo vs arc, there are lots of similarities, but when you pick the phones up the arc feels better, special somehow. The neo feels normal... Also the display is better on the arc.

Arc
>Clear Black Panel(No Air Gap, Great Sunlight Legibility, 20% more Brighter than Neo)
>Lightweight(117g) vs (126g)
>Slim Arc Body(8.7mm~10.5mm) vs (13mm)
>Screen Size 4.2" vs 3.7"
Neo
>Front Facing Camera
>Better Hardware Positions(Camera Sensor, Shutter Key)

Why would you buy another Android phone?

I, even if I could afford would not buy another Android phone because the X8 got everything I want in a smartphone.
It doesn't have that much ram, or the best camera, or a big screen, or a fast processor,or native flash but other than that what doesn't our x8 have?

Its getting seriously expensive out there and the X8 is perfectly packaged despite no flash and no touch capabilities unlike the rest of the market, everything else offered by Sony Ericsson's budget Android phone is good enough for me, for now.
And why? Android is king

Hardware keyboard....
Honestly, my main phone, when I go out, is a Motorola Flipout.
Just got the x8 for free due to a drawer contract.
But at home... For testing new apps, playing with ROMS, searching the full market (the Flipout has some problems there), downloading apps, as my new, very power saving linux home server. And I have a nice TV app installed (german dailymetv, they download content over Wifi and I can watch later) or for surfing it's nice, because the display is bigger.
As soon it comes to serious messaging which involves a lot of typing I really miss my hardware keyboard...
Wazzup
The x8 is a very nice and decent phone, there r some that destroy it saying that it is useless and blablabla, blablabla, but hey, if everyone uses the same cellphone, the world would be a very terrible place
Personnally I like the X8 but I'd like to have a bigger screen and more RAM :/
What you (OP) said it's true, it's a good phone with all the modifications we've made but I may sell my grandpa's iPhone 4 for a Nexus (S or Prime) if he'll ever give it to me [gosh, Apple is SO overrated].
I can afford till 200 Euros now.
If I would buy a new phone, it would be the Optimus Speed, because:
It has Dual-Core
It has a 4-inch-screen
It has an 8MP camera
It can record HD-Videos
It looks better (black color, thin,..)
It has an own forum @xda and official CM7
It´s the cheapest Dual-Core-Phone right now (around 340€ withoout SIM-lock)
But atm, I neither have the money nor want a new phone, because I need a new computer for playing Black Ops, MW3 (when it´s out), maybe Crysis 2 etc.
But I think, until I have the money for a phone and have already bought a PC, Quad-Core phones or at least Dual-Core phones with 2.0 GHz.
And they will maybe all have 3D and HD Display resolution and so on, so I don´t think that I´ll ever buy this phone.
But maybe I´ll get a new phone next summer along with a new contract...
I would buy an xperia Ray, because, its faster, better screen, better camera, and it hase the sony xperia style.
But right now, im loving my xperia x8.
ahemmm.... i buyed another X8, because i want to use it as main phone (my first one) and i want to play with it (change ROM, make tests, etc, with the second one)
i love x8 but buy neo v
I would buy any of the faster Android phones because i LOVE android. It never gets boring, with aaaalll the new apps and roms and everything you can add
I might buy the MIUI phone when its out. But not until android supports gpu accelerated UI

I have a trick for the RAM, for more RAM take a permanent marker, open the cellphone and take the battery off, and write in there where it says the model write More RAM, works for me, now I have more RAM xD.
For a bigger screen, just take 2 or more mirrors and put them in the right angle and you will see how your screen is bigger
xD I don't want to offend you, I'm just bored, but BTW, a cellphone with a mega big screen is a problem sometimes, I dont like to be talking with a machine that i put in my ear and it can reach my chin like nothing

Looking for new phone.

Well I have X8 one full year and now I'm looking for new phone.
I have eye on Xperia Mini but I don't know should I really but it at the end I'm looking something like X8 so if you have any suggestions please post it.

I got the ray it only 210pound in the the o2 shop it faster than the iPhone 4s on loading apps.
screen is clear than the iPhone.
it has 1ghz CPU ram 512 free 8mps can it got gd2.3 super1click working just no fourm on xda fully working sense 3.5 working on it. It is a good fighter for the HTC sensation it is all most as fast as it as I no my wee bro has it and now he is moving over to the ray the iPhone is my wife's and the ray kick ass if u no any1 with 1 just ask them to show you it you like
super.sense 3.5 on x8
If you have some money to spend you should get the Xperia Ray, for me it is very good, but i love the Arc S and if my parents give me permission to buy it, i will buy it, i want a big screen, and a very good Price/Quality'n'Performance relationship, and i have that in Arc S
Some Xperia Ray Specifications:
- Small size, it is easy to use with one hand, like X8
- A High Resolution, wich gives you an almost Retina Display (as the iPhone 4)
- 1GHz processor, fast enought
- 512MB Ram, suficient
- Slim, i like slim phones, X8 isn't slim
- GingerBread 2.3.4 with all his good features, like XLoud, Bravia Engine, Swipe Keyboard (?) + T9 Keyboard (?) (adjustable in settings)
- SE will give it the newest Android ICS
- 8MP Camera, with 720p video recording
- 4GB microSD card included
I might choose x10.
Although it is an old phone, but still better hardware than many almost same range price phone.
Im liking neo. It has exmor camera. Although im still thinking whether to pick neo or ray.

Sorry to barge in this thread
But yesterday I lost my beloved X8. Obviously can't think of any other phone than Android, the question is which one? Shall I go for HTC or retain SE again. Managing fund is the major problem at the moment . And I'm not going for a high end phone. I don't think there is any point in spending big money when you've got Tabs at almost the same (or even cheaper) price than those big shots like i-phone.
That also brings the next question, is it ok if I go for a Tab instead of the smartphone and use bluetooth for making calls. I can have at least 7" screen and phone combined in one package. So which one should I go for?

I am wondring if I should buy the Xperia arc S now, or should I wait for the next generation in this price range.
What do you think?
Really. THERE LIKE 100 people making the exact threads everyday.
Can't you search for someone asking the same question???
It may be an old threads ...
Yes :-
1-Clear display
2-HDMI
3-Awesome speaker
4-sexy design
5-The Best camera phone. (not better than xperia s)
6-Will recive ICS update officially.
7-good battery life
8-noise cancelling mic
No:-
1- Became Old cause most of new android devices are dual core and quad.
2-Lags alot with ICS .
3-Not good for HD games even when using GB.
4-Overheat from the back when playing games or surfing the web using DATA.
5-when you speak the other side (who listing to you) will hear your voice repeated specially when using the speaker.
6-Less custom roms ( seriously that's why i started making my own roms) than Galaxy or htc users.
*So it depends on you whether you wants high performance device for gaming and fast picture shooting or not .
Don't do it.
It's too old

I want to break some myths about the Xperia S. The screen is .1 inches bigger but the phone is massively bigger due to the screen bezel and the antenna design and does not feel good in hand. The material feels quite cheap for some reason. The Arc isnt a solid phone but feels more solid and is thinner and lighter. I have been using one form of ICS or another since December with Arc (not S) and its as stable and fast as it ever was with GB. The official ICS ROM will make for even better custom ROMs. The camera is marginally better on the S but is not the best by 2012 standards. I hate the feel of capacitive buttons on the S but I guess ICS on screen buttons would take care of that.
The Arc S is a good phone for its current price but I expect development to slow down in a few more months as more and more developers are upgrading hardware. The One X and the One S is definitely the bar right now. The screens, construction, processors and camera are all the best on the market. I have Sony everything so its hard for me to exit the brand so I'm keeping my Arc for one more year but for others, the One is the upgrade for 2012.
I have played with all of the phones above and Arc overclocked feels the same as S.
One S is better in almost every way vs Xperia S. The feel in hand to the performance. The construction is superb aircraft grade aluminum treated to a very nice finish. The only thing you'll miss is NFC but its still not mainstream with enough practical applications right now (it takes two hands to clap). The super AMOLED is not an issue coming from a lower resolution Arc and is a superb screen despite reviews.
One X is hands down the best phone I have ever played with. There are only two things inferior to the One S and thats battery and finish. Its still gorilla glassed front with ultra high impact-resisting polycarbonate, which is very strong and solid but something about that black aluminum magic is so sexy about the One S.
Either get one of the Ones or Arc S. I cant recommend the Xperia S to anyone.

I strongly disagree with this point. With the final update, it will be at least as smooth as GB if not faster. The ICS beta is laggy because of the incomplete/unoptimized 2D acceleration implementation.

I strongly disagree with most of your points.
1. It depends on what you really need and fit best your needs.
2. You can't even know because there is no official ICS yet.
3. Well it is good enough for HD games. Name one, which doesn't run smooth? I can play GTAIII and MC3 smooth (I don't need anymore ).
4. Every phone heats, you just feel it a little bit more because of the thinness. GS2 users whine about that too.
5. Surely not with normal mic, and for the speaker, I personally don't know any device, which has really good speakers.
6. Less custom ROMs? In Samsung and HTC forums there are only more ROMs, because 80% are stock-based. Do you really need that?
@OP: As I said it depends on what you really need. I am very happy with my Arc S.
BTW: Next time you could search and post your question in Q&A.

1- Agree maybe i should wait then judge the Arc s with the official ICS hoping it will become better .
2-GTAIII is playable but with few glitches ...
* I used to be happy with my arc but not after i saw the benchmarking of GSII ... And the face unlocking on ICS .
I'd say Arc S is one of the best phones in that price range. I admit the processor and GPU are kinda crappy, but it's still capable of running HD games(such as Asphalt 6, MC3, GTA3 etc.) without noticable lag!
Arc has a lot of custom roms. Phones like i9000 has more roms, but why do we need hundreds of different roms, because we all know that only some of them are good!
One thing I really love in my Arc is the screen! It's large enough(Frankly, I think larger would be too big), it has good resolution, and it hard to damage(it is more scratch-resistant than ie. Gorilla Glass).
And don't you say ICS is laggy! They haven't even released the final build! I believe Arc has a good potential of running ICS.

1. I am sure Sony won't release some laggy ****. We should be way more happy with Sony for even releasing a alpha/beta version.
2. IMO, It depends on the ROM. I haven't had any on CM7 and stock based ROM like Arconium.
But still it hasn't enough RAM, apps need more and more RAM.

well,i sold my HTC Evo 3D two days ago and iam using my old Arc For now.
coming from Evo i feel some lag in games but homescreen feels same.overall i dont see much difference in performance(i mean real life performance not benchmarks) but if you are a power user dont get this if you want a overall good smartphone with good camera Arc is pretty cheap now.go for it

Back to my arc S!

I had an Xperia S for a week. And I hated it. So I got my arc S back and I couldn't be happier.
If you're ever tempted by an Xperia S - don't do it. It's just not good enough.
Why?it is faster, and screen is much better.
Sent from my LT15i using xda app-developers app
I tried xperia s and find it heavier, worse picture quality, worse design and i missed the physical buttons. So i stick with arc S, still my fovorite so far.
I felt the build quality was poorer than the arc. Wasn't as big a step forward as is claimed, tbh.
isnt the dual core do nothing for it??
I was all for getting one, until I had one in the hand, two big for my liking. I really want my next Phone to be Sony, but if they continue the trend of creating bricks like most manufactures seem to be doing these days then I'll stick with my S.E and I might just upgrade to the Arc S.
I don't want a mini tablet as a Phone.
Wait for the GX guys, it's true Arc successor.
I'm waiting for SX to replace my Ray
I think 4-4,3 inch is the limit for the smartphone. Everything above is... tablet. Arc S is good enough for me.
I think the bigger a phone the better, I thought the xperia s looked good in the pictures but when held it irl it feels fat and the bezel looks really thick (big turnoff). But I'd still go for performance over design.
Sent from my Arc S with JJ's ROM installed + stock kernel.
What I didn't like:
Soft buttons are terrible - often takes 2 or 3 taps for then to work. Very frustrating.
Terrible battery life on the latest ICS F/W.
Heavy and uncomfortable to hold for long.
Bravia engine doesn't work on latest ICS F/W.
Power Saver app completely useless.
Sony UK refusing to repair screen tint issues if you've unlocked the bootloader.
Occasional hang when using the Quick Launch camera button.
Fonts too small for me - and using Large option only works in some apps and is ignored by Timescape, etc.
The flap on the USB port won't last long.
Stupid menu design for the launcher.
Widget picker takes 5 seconds to appear.
This phone looks great on paper but feels half-finished to me. I can see why the reviews were so lacklustre now.
So I'm back using my arc S which I will keep until I've saved up for a Galaxy Nexus. Sony have done a poor job of ICS and I they no longer have my trust. Why can't they produce a couple of excellent devices instead of releasing mediocre phones every few months? The mind boggles.
I did like the new Walkman app though - by far the best music player I've used on Android.
I find it ridiculous when people say " the bigger the phone, the better." Perhaps ego issues to compensate for something else ? Lol
Seriously, it is silly to put a tablet sized phone next to your eat. Just don't, please, for the love of god.

Not 100% sure what to do as I have arc already.

I'd hang fire, I've got 8 months left on my contract so I've got plenty of time to see what Sony can come up with in the future. I was going to sell my Arc the other week and get a Ray as I was wanting something smaller but after some thought decided to stick with the Arc in the end. There's nothing that I really like when I look at line up on GSMArena, maybe the Arco S but I'd have to hold it before deciding.

Soft buttons ARE terrible, even calendar launcher(lower left corner) interrupts with user interaction.
a mid range / mid end device doing a very nice job. even hdmi output is surprisingly smooth.
well, fairly spoken I had no expectations with ics, even sony's official website claims that, I never understood that, why some people got confused with "improved" performance and "speedy" UI, they both are different things.
I disagree.
For its price... Arc/Arc S was a loot when it was launched.
I now own both an Arc and an Xperia S. No doubt arc is the best designed fone any manufacturer ever made, but it is way too short on horsepower. Even on gingerbread, the contacts app lags if you cross over 500 contacts. So does the messaging app.
Arc users keep dwindling and shifting around custom ROMS trying to find the perfect one. And we all know after a few days of use and installing chunk loads of apps, the fone just struggles to keep up as a BASIC PHONE (it runs applications well though).
Arc is indeed a great fashion statement but as a basic phone, even my dads ZTE Blade delivers better.
Xperia S is thicker but works like a charm! Wish it's speaker was as loud as arc though

100% true. When I first booted JJHybrid 3.2 it was a rocket comparing to stock ICS. Now with few apps instaled (<30), everything lags, even keyboard, which should be one of the main things in phone. Looks like, arc S in my last Sony phone.....from now on I am 85% sure, my next phone will be Galaxy Nexus.

I did like the new Walkman app though - by far the best music player I've used on Android.

I haven't looked at PowerAmp for about 6 months. I didn't like it much though but will take another look.
It's much better than any other music app I've found.
