Hey guys since this is General I had to do it. I just got back my Evo and I'm trying to root with Unrevoked, of course its not happening. Now, I have the latest software 3.29 and the latest basebands and etc..
Is there any other way to do so, such as with adb? I gave up the Epic cause theres hardly any development on it, but now I can't get back on this..
Thanks for all the help in advance, it feels so good to have my HTC back in hand!

I tried from last night on.. I then went and applied the latest RUU to make sure everything was up to par and settled.. Went on to do Unrevoked 3.21 and I kept on getting the error " Backup CID Missing" I've seen many ppl have this issue, why I don't know.. On the IRC i saw this was reported as well.. All this is understood.. I just wanna know is there another way I can attack this from? Like the flash exploit or the use of adb?

That should do it - the rage exploit works for me every time and you can put a new recovery on that will allow you to change the HBOOT and then also run unrevoked-forever.zip and then you're set.
Thank You.. but.. Need More..!

I thank You so much.. Only issue is that I use a Mac, not a windows machine.. 3/4 of the tasks can be done thorugh ADB and the SDK via Terminal on the Mac but others cannot..
Damn it, I'm not a noob lol but this sure as hell makes me feel like one.. I've rooted over and over on multiple devices and now have this BS!
Keep bringing it in Guys I reall appreciate it.. As soon as I am rooted I will post Pics and a DAMN celebration video lol..
Thanks SO much..
Thank You ALL!
Thank You .. Thank You..
The Rage method is def the way to go for a "raged" individual...
It helped so much, and the downgrade is no biggie.. just time consuming..
Now, I finally got my Evo to be Free and Unlocked, again, for the third time with the third Evo.. I swear, I am gonna stop changing devices..
Thanks Again to all..

You were not looking in the right spot if you have been looking for 6 months...root for the Hero has been around for quite awhile.
I always pay more attention to a post when every word begins with a capital letter...

Whats it like to know it ALL, the posts are here to help anyone having trouble with their mobile device. I have encounterd 100s of hero users who have not been able to root since the firmware .7 update, sorry if you three are above reading comments meant to help those of us who are having problems with Rooting.
P.S. you might want to check out app brain and see how many users have downloaded this app today alone, before you pass judgement on any one. AND READ ALL THE COMMENTS.
Ignorance is bliss !!!

Its the fact that the OP said "HTC root is finally here." Its not finally here, its been here for a long time.
No one is passing judgement, we are just saying root is not new...even for .7. That app might be new, but root is not.
P.S. if those 100's of Hero users running .7 had read XDA, or done a simple Google search, they would have known you can root. .7 hasn't been out for 6 months, so you could have used Androot.
At any rate, enjoy your rooted phone.

Nice try, dosent work never did
Androot doesnt work for sprint htc hero with .7 firmware update, nor does SuperOneClick.
Thats why we dont use one click methods

Exactly. I've been playing with rooting devices since I had a HTC Mogul running WinMob.
These one-click solutions are nice and all but are usually the polish to an otherwise multi-step solution that has been around for quite a while.
But it worked with the ROM you would have had 6 months ago when you said you started searching.

are you using regaw's root for .7 method???
if so i would say go to theimpaler747 thread for cyanogenmod Q&A, the OP is VERY helpful. I used regaw's root and my freind as well, worked fine for our heros, reread the steps just to make sure you didn't miss anything.
I tried all these one click solutions on mine with the .7 upadate and they didn't work. I looked around for hours like most noobs do before they post... and the only thing that worked for me was to run the RUU to get it back to basics.
So my little first contribution/suggestion, if it's worthy, would be to note in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572) where it says .6 underlined, to read .6 and above .7.8.9..ect.
Good luck to the OP.

There is the Easy Root thread, works with .7 and takes 5 minutes.
I ruu'ed back to 2.1 and then accepted all the updates and used superoneclick it worked.
None of the one click stuff worked for me. Trying to get http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572 to take and everything worked accept the "Superuser Permission". I'll try from scratch in the morning. Point is, for me, the one click stuff didn't seem to work. At least the manual way is a step in the right direction. Remember to load the older 2.1 in the second thread.
Good option though FISHVENOM

No need to downgrade if you read my post.
I just got an Evo 4G yesterday, the last time I rooted an evo I had was a few months after release. But I left sprint for another carrier for almost a year, it was a 002 verison. Any how this evo has the Following
2.10 Hboot
004 revison
Baseline 2.15.00.11.19
Build 3.70.651.1
Software 3.70.651.1
PRI 1.90_003
PRL 60676
I have no idea which root method to use i've searched and seen so many but not sure which one to use, last time I was using unrevoked, cant remember if I had to use shell commands like it was during the first rooting process of the Evo. It seems that it has got a little more confusing. Can anyone give me a LINK with a method that would work with my EVO. Thanks in advance.
Unrevoked.

Thanks for the speedy reply, giving it a go right now.
Wow, where are the people saying "Unrevoked sucks! You're lazy if you use it and if you do, you deserve to get herpes!" that usually come out for questions like this?
I second unrevoked. I know what I'm doing, but unrevoked worked fine for me. Why do extra work if it's not needed?
3rd vote for Unrevoked.
4th unrevoked for noobs there's no better way and its quick

I am in the Exact predicament, just got a new Evo today. My old rooted/nand unlocked one broke and my best-buy warranty got me a brand new out in box, 100% free. Now im looking to re-root it. Last time i rooted i used toasty's method(think that was his name) and it took a while with some adb terminals. Does unrevoked root and unlock nand? I just want to be able to run Cyanogen Mod and tether wifi.
Thanks guys.
I just tried Unrevoked 3. I have the correct Evo drivers installed via HTC Sync, i had uninstalled HTC Sync, and i had successfully installed the Hboot drivers. I then ran unrevoked and it found my Evo but after a few minutes of the program working, i got this error.

Anyone know of a way to root/nand unlock brand new Evo's? mine came with 2.2
Just ran it as Admin and all is well. My stupid fault, and wow was that allot easier then the like 80 step guide i fallowed for my first evo.

Go ahead and give it another try and run as admin. Make sure you have HTC sync uninstalled and have the Android USB Driver installed. And also make sure your downloading the latest version of Unrevoked.
EDIT: I just noticed your last post... Oh well.. Glad you got it rooted.
+1 sometimes with the newer hardware you have to try it a few times before it'll work.

I was in the same boat in February. Spent two weeks reading through every thread on here trying to decide - especially since mine is a company phone and I didn't want to brick it that quick.
I ended up doing the Auto Root. I watched the youtube for the 25 minutes, then ran it on mine while the video ran again. Worked in perfect time with the youtube video and have not had a problem with it at all.

Unrevoked.
Unrevoked.
hah i am usually one of those people saying unrevoked will give you herpes, but it has gotten better over the past few months, and now works perfectly fine.
if you want to take the hard/fun way, use the link in my sig. it is the manual way to do it that teaches you how to use basic adb and flashing and stuff. very helpful if you want to learn fast.
again, my unrevoked hating days are over, but i still reccomend this method.
I have rooted several methods. Manually and with unrevoked. Unrevoked works fantastically and I have never had a problem. Noob or just lazy like me, its perfectly fine

same here unrevoked 3.32 worked flawlessly for me i was very curious about rooting and if hadn't been for unrevoked i probably would have never done it i saw a video on youtube and looked so simple, it was like for clicks it worked for me in two i was so surprised i didnt belive i was rooted and checked and rechecked and i was fully rooted
unrevoked here as well. I originally rooted using Toast's method back at launch, but my new phone came a few days ago and I had the same debate. Unrevoked just plain works fast, and it has a tiny download.
Sorry to post this question, I searched but did not find a definitive answer (at least in my searches).
Is the R2D2 rooted thru the same process as the standard D2? And, will the same ROM's work on this newly rooted R2D2?
Thanks. I will be getting the wife said R2D2 shortly and wanted to be sure of the process prior to her screaming at me for bricking her new phone.
I have rooted an Eris, Inc, Evo and D2 in the past so I am prepared for all the goodness to come.
Thank you.
You can root it via z4root, ive done it on 2 of em without problem.
All you will have to do it reboot the phone after installing z4root or else the app will hang when trying to root it. after a reboot the app works flawlessly.
Awesome, thanks. Good piece of info to know. Thanks
I really need to root i bought DHD 4 months ago but i updated it accidently
can i root it now is there any way?
please help me out. I never rooted any phone before.
thanks.
I'm pretty sure you can.

Time ago I upgrade too by mistake to '2.3.37' and this thread had the solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152233
Be carefull in goldcard step when copying the serial from phone to post in the revSkill page. Took me two attempts to create correctly the goldcard to execute the downgrade.
i could do with pointing in the right direction
i have a dhd - unbranded
android 2.3.3
sense 2.1
build 2.50.405.2
i have read through the downgrading instructions i have found and downloaded the files but can't get it to work
when i run adb it doesn't even find my dhd!
any advice would be appreciated
