soooo i was unrooted 1.5 stock hero rom, then the official leak came out so i upgraded to that, is there anyway i can root now?
The RUU police didn't get here in time for this one...
You'll have to wait for a 2.1 exploit to be discovered.

thanks, it's alright though, 2.1 is great. The only things i wish it had were lwp and friendstream, but i can cope. I guess i'll just wait.
So you have 2.1 RUU ? Then you cannot root.
haha yeah i bit the dust,
i don't think i'm missing out on that much seeing as i tried rooting before and it never worked

You could have just downloaded fresh kitchen and rooted that way... but you're ****ed for now. Sorry dude.

hrm a new user must have posted and then deleted.
i did try to use the kitchen, it would get up to the point where it would go into recovery mode then just stay stuck at the HTC logo recovery screen, also when i was doing it it says pre-kitchen has identified that you are not running a stock sprint rom, even though i was completely stock 1.5.
Well thankfully i was able to downgrade to 2.1, and do the root and unrevoked forever, everything worked perfect since i took it slow and one literal step at a time, so i finally got full root, then today i dived into flashing a rom, well that was easier then i thought it would be. I did the one by netarchy, it was the HTC OTA Froyo 2.2, *FINAL*, build 3.36.651.6 (Rooted) Odexed that he created, i must say good job and thank you to everyone that helped me, most of all without some awesome Dev's on this site none of what we can do could be done.
just wanted to say thanks, and i look forward to enjoying my fully rooted froyo rom.
yaysiez - I never messed with the unrEVOked or the 1 click root stuff. I find the long way is really fun to do! It's a learning experience. Glad to hear everything went smoooooth for ya. I didn't like the idea of not being able to reverse UF, although I hear they may or may not be working on an S-OFF switch.

The newest version of UF includes (or works with) a new S-ON switcher, so you can revert the S-OFF state if you want.

Yes you are correct, it's S-off, so this will give you a true full root with nand unlock for once, unrevoked has really pulled through with a awesome job.

Yup... and that was the only thing left I was waiting on rooting for. Now, the only other issue I have is I don't want Froyo until the streaming audio issue is resolved, so I'm going to stay on UF 2.1/1.47 until a new update comes out. Then, I'll upgrade with a 2.2 rooted stock rom that will likely show up here somewhere.

I have encounterd 100s of hero users who have not been able to root since the firmware .7 update, sorry if you three are above reading comments meant to help those of us who are having problems with Rooting.
P.S. you might want to check out app brain and see how many users have downloaded this app today alone, before you pass judgement on any one. AND READ ALL THE COMMENTS.

Its the fact that the OP said "HTC root is finally here." Its not finally here, its been here for a long time.
No one is passing judgement, we are just saying root is not new...even for .7. That app might be new, but root is not.
P.S. if those 100's of Hero users running .7 had read XDA, or done a simple Google search, they would have known you can root. .7 hasn't been out for 6 months, so you could have used Androot.
At any rate, enjoy your rooted phone.

Androot doesnt work for sprint htc hero with .7 firmware update, nor does SuperOneClick.
Thats why we dont use one click methods

Exactly. I've been playing with rooting devices since I had a HTC Mogul running WinMob.
These one-click solutions are nice and all but are usually the polish to an otherwise multi-step solution that has been around for quite a while.
But it worked with the ROM you would have had 6 months ago when you said you started searching.

are you using regaw's root for .7 method???
if so i would say go to theimpaler747 thread for cyanogenmod Q&A, the OP is VERY helpful. I used regaw's root and my freind as well, worked fine for our heros, reread the steps just to make sure you didn't miss anything.
I tried all these one click solutions on mine with the .7 upadate and they didn't work. I looked around for hours like most noobs do before they post... and the only thing that worked for me was to run the RUU to get it back to basics.
So my little first contribution/suggestion, if it's worthy, would be to note in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572) where it says .6 underlined, to read .6 and above .7.8.9..ect.
Good luck to the OP.

There is the Easy Root thread, works with .7 and takes 5 minutes.
I ruu'ed back to 2.1 and then accepted all the updates and used superoneclick it worked.
None of the one click stuff worked for me. Trying to get http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572 to take and everything worked accept the "Superuser Permission". I'll try from scratch in the morning. Point is, for me, the one click stuff didn't seem to work. At least the manual way is a step in the right direction. Remember to load the older 2.1 in the second thread.
Good option though FISHVENOM

That's what I did. But RUU may make odd things happen, a few users who did BOTH and then RUU'd lost s-off functions but still had s-off. So if you're going to do both just commit to never RUUing. If you want fastbooot commands you need darchs. Darchs is undone by RUU. If you are good with just HERCIMG.zips then regaws wil do, but will NOT be undone by RUU.
i know this is somewhat off topic.. but i love the title of this thread..
its like a feeling we all have at first.. we are a little embarrased after our first flash.. and ask ourselves "is it ok to flash??".. then we end up flashing everywhere and all of the time..
sorry oostah, i had to let that out..

Oostah, I was sorry to read about your phone issues and I thought it was great how you didn't give up and got it solved.
The 1st time I went S-off, I only used Darch's Eng Spl. I RUU'd to try and solve my phones intermittent (Rom flashing) issues. So, I lost S-off obviously and used Regaw's to root and then decided to do Regaw's S-off (since I had the 1.47 bootloader now), then, I did Darch's as well even though I don't use fastboot commands often, but it's a nice option to have. I didn't know about the issues that Il Duce brought up (but he would know since he is so active on XDA). I know that there are many who have gone the same route to get S-off.
It has been a lifesaver for me when I lost my recovery some how. If you just want temporary s-off, you might just want to just do Darch's since Regaws is permanent at this point.
Good luck and Happy Flashing!

Duce, pstevep, and oostah I had the same issues that Duce described but it was of no big concern ,because I'm on a different phone. But I've been trying to keep up with you guys over in the Mild_salsa thread and help.So before I got my new phone a I used regaws s-off and Darchs together ,evrything was groovy as they say.I when I get my new phone ,I unroot my hero and then I start to try to help with your mms issues over in the other thread.Lo and behold I can't flash any HECRIMG's from the bootloader, can't figure it out then I come upon this thread :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971550
Seems when I put my 2GB card back in my hero and re-formatted it I didn't notice that it was set to formatt at FAT not FAT32. So I take it out today and re-formatt to FAT32 and (How does that chef from LA. say BAAMM!) my bootloader now recognizes the HERCIMG.zip.(I just tested it again took out my card formatted it to FAT booted into bootloader and it didnot recognize the HERCIMG,took it out reformatted it in FAT32 and BAAMM! lol it recognized ther HERCIMG.)

Yea, you have fastboot mode enabled, which you can turn off in menu>settings>power management, or something to that nature. What exactly are you trying to install the hboot drivers for? I only ask, because if it is so you can use Unrevoked, I just wanted to give you a heads up that it won't be working for you, and I'd avoid trying it. Unrevoked won't work for the 2.3.3 OTA. If it is for other reasons, then carry on!

Well, you DO need to have the hboot drivers installed for Unrevoked to work, if you're using windows. The problem is that Unrevoked is not yet updated to work with the 2.3.3 OTA. There is currently no root method for ya. The only hope you'd have for right now, is if your phone had been rooted prior to you having it, and your bootloader is still S-off. Other than that, you're going to need to wait until unrevoked gets updated to work with the OTA. I also wouldn't be surprised if when there is an Updated method to work with the new hboot 2.16, that there is a different set of modified hboot drivers that will need to be used (speculation, but wouldn't be surprised). That would mean you'd just need to install them again.
I would just sit tight and wait for the updated Unrevoked to drop, and see if there is anything that changes with their instructions or downloads.

Also, I have no idea how true it is...but I've heard a couple people report that they had success in going to a Sprint store, and convincing one of the techs there to downgrade the phone back to Froyo. Again, that's just hearsay, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sprint had the capabilities to downgrade the system (we currently can't downgrade). If that is at all true, and you were able to get them to downgrade ya, then you could root using unrevoked.

Damn, that's too bad. I wonder if it is actually possible, but they're instructed to not do it....either that or the person who reported it before was full of it! He did say it took some convincing though, and he gave a few reasons as to why he wanted to do it (ie. with the GB OTA netflix didnt work, it borked wireless N wifi, the compass no longer worked, phantom voicemail icons, etc) he complained of all those valid things, and got the guy to do it. At least that's what he said.
