Just a quick question i bought this phone when it was released and it suffered from this awful restart bug so it got sold.
With the ICS update being available what i'd like to know is has this been resolved and if not will flashing a custom ROM cure all that ails it?
Also will it bring at least 720p video recording?
TIA

Try doing a factory reset ... maybe that should clear it up... but if anything it should fix with next update .. did u buy the phone from someone who had a custom rom on it?

Sorry i just realised i wasn't very clear.
When i bought one from a retailer it had the reset bug so i sold it as it was a common thing and this was a while back. Now i'm planning on getting another one seeing as ICS is coming out so i wanted to know if that restart bug is still around
FYI when i had it i do remember factory resetting it offten but it didn't fix it
Nah that was probably that phone.. the only bug known is the i9020A and it has a search bug where if ur signal is low it starts activating the search bug non stop until u restart or simply turn the screen off and on. But yeah its the only issue known. =]
Sent From In between Your Moms Boobies
There is no known issue with restarting. Either you downloaded a buggy app or there was something wrong with that phone. You should of returned it for a new one.
And to answer ur question about 720p recording... it doesn't do 720p
Just wait for the Galaxy Nexus

This is pretty much fixed with the lastest ROM and/or screen replacement.
Cool well although the vid recording isn't 720p I may still get one, my problem is in the UK we get stiffed on the price of phones and £540 is more than I'm willing to pay.

I'm using a T-Moblie MyTouch 4G on Wind Mobile in Canada. Would the phone get OTA updates? If not, is there any way to check or download the latest updates. Have there been any updates since the version on my phone:
Android: 2.2.1

Kernel:
2.6.32.21-g899d047

The reason I ask is the phone behaves strangely at times. I've seen it show 3 or 4 bars but GPS, data and voice don't work until I reboot then all is fine. I've also seen it lose a strong signal and be unable to get it back until I reboot and suddenly everything is fine. I've also read so much about how fast this phone is supposed to be but mine seems to to frequently stutter when scrolling through the app list, movie playback in rockplayer (and others) is often jerky, and it even seems to have serious problems recording at 720p (it freezes for a while resulting in sections being missing from the recording) or playing back those videos. I'm hoping maybe there was a bug fix released.
Thanks!
stock Rom is pretty bloated and your going to run into those issues if your on stock. swap to a custom rom and root and you should be fine.
So none of that sounds out of the ordinary on the stock ROM?
I'm trying to get my phone replace with one of the ones with a good screen. I'm waiting to hear from the third HTC rep who's supposed to call today but it sounds like they are going to give me a replacement since they told me they're trying to collect samples of the poor screens (although based on the poll I saw in this forum, it's hard to imagine there's a shortage of samples for them to look at). I don't want to do any permanent rooting or flashing until I have a replacement just in case it causes issues with warranty.
Once I have a good replacement I'll probably go ahead and flash something better. Is there a stable Gingerbread ROM yet?
Thanks.

Thats strange. I'm completely stock and don't have the problems you're having. I think you just got an overall bad device. Hope you get a good replacement. What speeds are you getting?
As for the ota? I don't think you'll receive it due to T-Mobile being the one that pushes it. When an ota does come I'm pretty sure there'll be a manual way to update. Latest update is still 2.2.1 which is the one currently on your phone.
CyanogenMod 7 is still experimental but I hear all over that its pretty stable. Check some threads first.

I've had zero issues on stock and still haven't bothered to flash anything yet, despite being rooted, because the stock works so well for me. I also think you just got a generally bad device. Best of luck with your next one!

[25.01.2011] There is no any official update after this version...
Ok, thanks guys. I'll see how my new phone works when I get a replacement. Hopefully it'll behave better...
I'm stock and I don't have those problems that you mentioned. Have you tried factory reset?
No, I haven't tried a factory reset yet. It's been a little better behaved lately. Also I'm most likely getting a replacement from HTC in the coming days(weeks?) so I'm not inclined to do any modding or starting again from a reset until I get the new phone. Whether it's a hardware or software issue, hopefully starting fresh on a new device will fix it...

Im in a similar situation (in Canada as well) and waiting to hear back from htc regarding getting a replacement (taking them quite a bit of time to respond) - let us know how your warranty claim goes!

Did you ever get your replacement? I got an escalation call the day after my initial call so I was feeling really good about HTC support. He told me I'd get a call from corporate. Still haven't heard anything. Finally called HTC support back, their notes were all messed up, and after several minutes on hold they told me Corporate will call me.... And now after that last post I want to install Cyanogen 7 but I don't want to do it before sending back my phone...
In any case, I put up a video shot at 720p to illustrate one of the things I was talking about. Actually, in low light video looks awful, but there was enough light to make this one look decent at times, but every so often it just pauses. This happen to anyone else? Is it a slow SD card write issue maybe? I'm using the card that came with the phone.

I guess I'll try a factory reset and flashing now...
So on craigslist i just bought a nexus s phone...
This phone is in perfect condition and everything but there are some small problems with it.
First off i think it is a prerelease dev phone...
It ran on a build name called: Soju
This build had ridiculously bad battery, like 15 min, but it turned on in about 6 seconds way faster then my other nexus s.
So i tried loading on a different ROM and it worked but the camera will not work for any ROM.
IT SAYS: Camera Error- Cannot Connect to camera
How can i fix the camera on this?
Also is there anything we can get out of the Soju model version? Probably not but thought i would ask
Somebody plesae let me know what to do!
Are you going to send a message every 30 minuts?
Please be patient.
i did it one time man...

what rom you using?

^_^ funny **** did you try Googleing the name of rom or software that you said? Or did the person that you got it from on Craigslist say it was already rooted might wanna call him or her back and ask "what the **** did you do" lol just a thought

you can always flash the stock ROM back into the phone with CWR
No when I got it It wasn't rooted.
Also I don't think it is the rom as o have tried muiu too with same response.

if the camera didn't work when you got it why did you accept it? bad battery life sounds like a dead battery, and camera not working sounds like dead phone.
also 5s on google typing ohhh... "nexus s soju" may just - actually, no, it will - find your answer.

I figures out that the camera does work on the original firmware it came with but on that the battery is terrible.
When I loaded new roms the camera stopped wworking.
What radio do I have to have for the latest cm7 and also how do I flash a radio can I do it in clockwork or only fastboot?

hello guys I have a nexus with one gingerbread 2.3.4 and when I use the 3G network after 2-3 minutes the phone restarts. with this bug I can not use Internet
any ideas? Thanks!
Yes. Me to.
What ROM and/or kernel combo you guys using?
I have the stock rom ota gingerbread 2.3.4, nothing changed, full stock. I recently tried miui 1.5.20 the problem is the same. may be a hardware problem?
Does the phone get hot to the touch on the back? Does the phone still reboot if you turn off 3g data and you go exclusivly Wifi?
Had the same issue with my old Nexus 1. Called HTC support and they immediately said it was a defective board. RMA'd and got refurb, but at least it does not reboot when I use 3g.
Good luck.
thanks jhsiao36, think if I update the radio version 5.12.00.08 can change something or brought it in for service?

I didn't help for me. I tried the 5.12.00.08 radio and it suffered from the same 3g reboots. But when I disabled 3g and used Wifi, never suffered from reboots.
If the phone is still under warranty, definitely encourage you to call them. HTC's customer and tech support is the best I've ever seen. They replaced it no questions asked, even though my phone is rooted and bootloader unlocked.

+1 They are awesome to deal with. It really makes me sad that they are starting to lock down their phones, because I won't buy a phone if I can't run custom ROMs on it.
But with the radio, I highly doubt flashing to 5.12 would help. Google released the 5.08 radio with the OTA update to Gingerbread. If 5.12 was any better, I'm sure they would've included it. There had to have been a reason they stuck with 5.08.
If you aren't afraid of losing anything, or already made backups, you could try the passimg method of giving you a completely stock install. See if the problem occurs with that as well. This would rule out software vs hardware.
No one can really solve it?

I really don't think it can be resolve without sending it back to HTC for a replace/repair. As I said in my previous posts, I've tried 3 different ROMs - stock, cyanogenmod 6 and 7 - all exhibit the same issue - reboot when on 3g, but perfect if on Wifi. And yes, it will reboot even on a freshly install ROM (no apps installed).
HTC knows of this issue and they will replace/repair. I got a refurb and it works perfectly - stock, cyanogenmod 6 or 7.
Sorry, probably not the answer you wanted to hear, but search on <insert your favorite search engine> and you will find that this is a fairly widespread problem.
Thank you for your answer! It does not work, had sent a factory repair.
After several tests, on Monday I sent the phone in for service. I think it's a hardware problem, maybe a bad batch of motherboards.
my S / N: HT05... and your?
I will tell you just back from assistance.
Did you ever overheat it? I believe that the N1 has a problem if you really push it that it can overheat. Once it happens once it will happen again and every time it takes less and less to cause the reboot. Eventually it reboots just with 3G.
I was running mine in the car-mount with GPS, Google Maps (3G), screen on brightest, on a hot summer day while charging ... and it rebooted. Didn't think much of it but then it started rebooting every time I used GPS and charging.
In the end it was pretty near useless ... rebooting all the time. I sent it in twice (the first time they couldn't reproduce the problem) and the second time they replaced the board. Problem solved.
Now I am very careful not to overheat it.

I apologize for the frustrations associated with the current issues with the GB release... Please know that we are aware of many of the issues people are experiencing and are working with HTC to resolve them. Although I don't have a time frame now, they will be sending out a patch to resolve issues associated with your device.

I was also prompted for an update today, after just being prompted for the GB update the other day. I was hoping maybe they were being true to their word and unlocking the bootloader.
It was a rather lengthy update process with two reboots involved.

Not to sound like a douche, but I think it's pretty obvious that Sprint & HTC plan on releasing an update that would fix the problems presented with the GB update.
There was the 4.22 update,GB
Then the 4.24 update,GB fix,
Are you guys saying there is a 3rd update being pushed?

I'm wondering the same thing...I've already had two updates. I took both of them because I like my evolution stock, only reason I ever rooted my hero is because Sence made it sluggish.

at this point in time....i am not confident that we will have any sort of solution in the near future, we will simply have to deal with this horrible android version of gingershitbread, i never tought id hate the awsomeness that is an EVO , but currently...i kind of do, clearing user data, resetting, done it all, it still sucks arse and glitches half the dam time, its horrible, if id have known i would have stayed with stock 2.2 (not because of root but because it actually friggin functioned better)
I waited a couple weeks and did the rooted stock rom, 4.24
Have had no issues after a full week of use.

the more i think about it you think he said that just to shut me up and so the sprint forums dont get filled up with posts about it ??? I dunno; like the corp store told me; "as long as you can make and recieve calls there is nothing wrong with your handset"
IT suxx to be stock its like having a maseratti that only goes 55MPH
okay, i received a n7 with a transfomer rom preinstalled on it 3 weeks ago, i called up customer service after a day trying and they said "do everything to make it work" and they will send me a email with instruction returning it.
headache: i managed to put a stock rom back on it, activated and everything, but i find out it's not as smooth as other devices (well, playing games for the first week is fine, than keep getting lagg after time), but luckily, i took a picture when i first start up the device (with transformer wallpaper, system info..)
currently the n7 is on stock rom with bootloader unlock and rooted, so if i return with this stock rom, are they will pass the examine of faulty and not "charge" me for another device? or i just go to the transformer section and flash their stock rom )
thanks for any advice
i dont think anyone have this case before -.-

There have been several instances where people have gotten ics (not TF, all asus products have the tree background) test roms on their devices, and experienced the same lag you are experiencing. It appears they got early pre-production devices, where the software (and perhaps hardware) has not been finalized yet, which may be what is causing the lag. I believe they will take it back if you change your complaint to "extreme lag", and explain what happened to it.
Good luck
