If you dl IRIS and use IVONA HQ you'll get good really high quality sound when IRIS replies. My phone is a british woman.

Iris just isn't there yet. Iris is good for a few smartass remarks that's about it.

Didn't even think that app was there thanks

You have to have Pico TTS or an app of that nature and the Google Voice Search app.
To OP:
Siri is probably the most over rated feature in the history of phones.

This is funny

Speaktoit is good also...

I said feature, not design.

When I read about Siri it seemed pretty cool, so I started playing around with what is built into the stock gingerbread android build. (Just hold the search button until the Speak prompt appears). It's actually pretty good. Not as conversational or integrated as Siri, but it works pretty well for sending voice texts and generally navigating the phone.
And yes, Iris is good for a laugh.

Check out Skyvi - https://market.android.com/details?...id=com.bluetornadosf.smartypants&rdot=1&pli=1.
it has a 4.3 rating. haven't tried it out myself yet tho. it incorporates Wolfram Alpha, which is what siri uses i think.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't want to/expect to talk to my phone like it's a person (and have it perform results I expect.)
Saying "weather" and having my phone take me to the weather makes infinitely more sense than asking it "Will I need to wear galoshes to work?"
Granted, some of the actions might need some natural language, and might be nice, but a lot of what I've seen from Siri demoed is just asking simple things in about as dumbass and roundabout a way as possible.

Jeannie is just as good.

Iris is a Siri like app, I reccomend downloading it if you want humorous conversations
Everyone post your funny iris responses:
Me: Who is our current president?
Iris: Obama the llama
Me: Do you use Google plus?
Iris: No, I use blackle.
Me: Iris, why is your name Iris?
Iris: Dude my name isnt Iris, its Chris.
Me: Your name is Chris?
Iris: No, my name is Iris..
Me: Iris tell me a story
Iris: You tell me one first
Me: But I asked you to tell me a story first, so you go first.
Iris: I don't want to.
Me: why don't you want to tell me a story?
Iris: Fine. I will tell you, but you must keep it a secret.
Me: Okay, I'm listening.

I don't believe iris was made to be serious. Sometimes it does have serious responses (very few but they are there) but I think it was also made to occassionally be funny as well.

(market app)siri alternative voice assistant

HELLO GUYS,
with the iphone 4s become popular with siri ,evryone seems to be so attracted by the functionality of it !!WHY DO WE NEED TO FEEL JEALOUS?
we have an ANDROID! here i would like to share with you some of the apps similar perforing just what siri does i tested em on our p500 and it does work really well
speaktoit assistant----https://market.android.com/details?id=com.speaktoit.assistant&hl=en
jeanne----https://market.android.com/details?id=com.pannous.voice.actions.free&feature=more_from_developer
iris--https://market.android.com/details?id=com.dexetra.iris
vlingo-https://market.android.com/details?id=com.vlingo.client&hl=en
AS FAR AS WHAT I HAVE TESTED:
speaktoit is better for user interactions and commanding like telling it to open poweramp music player ,or calendar,or messages or any app etc and jeanne is good for getting factual infos..
my tiny bro from kindergarden came into the room and asked it who is the prime minsiter of india!
and guess what it gave th eanswer along whit some info about the prime minster..
really nice

Jelly Bean Search vs. Siri!

I can't wait till we see this on the Vibrant. Check this out!
I honestly do not think their comparable.
Siri still has a + side to it, for example you can ask it something in any way you want to and it will reply, Google Now does not, yet anyways.
Anything else, Google Now has done better so far, organization, information, etc.
Sir I seems more life like but information providing is not that great but with Now you have to say it like you are googling it

Although Google search is faster you have to consider SiRi pulls up more resources and can do a little more. SiRI can open apps, play music from your phone, and use alternate resources other than Google to pull up even more information. I'm no pro iOS don't get me wrong. But if you're trying to declare a 'winner' you have to decide what the 'fight' is about. Is it about speed or features? Google wins in speed, but SiRi wins in functionality.

In my opinion, I prefer the simply mode that uses Google Search than Siri... When Google only says two sentences, Siri is teling you a story... I mean, it's tru that Google Search is faster, and this is what I'm looking forward to.

The voices in my head are faster than both and I can change male/female and accents on the fly. I even have celebrity voices too. :screwy:

Have you guys ever read comments on a Apple centered blog? I've never read something more hilarious than stuff like that. They claim that Google copies everything that Apple does. They even think Google stole the "rectangular shape" from Apple.
If you feel like you could use some laughs just check out 9to5mac for example.
I look forward to reading comments about how Google's Voice search is shamelessly copied from Apple's Siri "Innovation". -.- Like Voice Recognition has never been used before Siri... xD
