HD2 and Web2Go

anyone have any idea if this is going to work, bc my only other windows phone was the dash and i used to use the old school Tzones for $2.99 on that.
On the same boat bro, I am currently paying $15 a month for unlimited data on Sprint and I DONT want a $30 bloated data plan, does Web2Go work on smartphones if you buy retail $450.00 ????
Probably not, T-Mobile does IMEI checks now to see if you're provisioned correctly. While you may use them on other windows Mobile phones, the HD2 is considered a special device and will require the regular data package like Android.

I'll second that answer, but more definitively than 'probably.' Full smartphone data plan required.
Web2Go will work. You have to change the apn in the data settings from epc.tmobile.com to internet2.voicestream.com. I've had several iPhones, Touch Pro 2, and now T-Mobile USA HD2 (got mine last week from Wal-Mart w/no commitment) and I have NEVER had a problem. T-Mobile doesn't perform any provisioning checks or scans that's BS! I've had service since '99 (Powertel=>Voicestream=>T-Mobile)!

Do you have the phone set up as the HD2 on the T-mobile website under your account or as another phone?
That's odd because i use to use my HD with one of the cheap plans (since they didn't have the IMEI numbers for the HD initially). However, after a couple months, I could no longer use the phone unless it had the unlimited smartphone plan (and everyone else reported the same thing on the Blackstone forum). As far as I know, Tmobile does check IMEI and it will detect that HD2 is a smartphone will not let you connect unless you have the proper plan.
Thanks for the heads up k2trill, imma buy an HD2 retail and set up Web2Go. Ill let you guys know how it goes, expect a response in a week.
set it up as "my phone is not listed" option.
I am asuming as much as we read these forums Tmobile will too so there you go - from time to time they will create some sort of firewall (by changing the options and settings) to force us into Web2Go... I want to see how this goes as I will not purchase HD2 to subscribe on additional $30 ripoff... Web2Go I can live with...

In theory of Web2Go works on your phone... yes - it will get EDGE quality and not 3G but it should work with everything (weather, facebook, etc)

i have the hd2 on web2go...

i just put my sim card in, and was able to connect...
i didn't change any settings at all...
i flashed, put the 2.10.50 radio on there to flash and got crappy speeds...
i tried different radios but no luck... somebody got any ideas?

SIM Slot on Verizon XOOM?

Quick question, I was close to purchasing a Xoom for work reasons (going on the 5gb data PAYG plan). Boss decided to give me the Panatech 4g USB radio for use in my laptop and have the company pay for it.
Would I be able to purchase a 3g enabled XOOM and pop the verizon 4g SIM card into it - with the understanding that I would only be able to access 3g speeds?

AFAIK the Sim slot is not active, it has to be sent back in to Moto to get the 4g hardware installed and the sim slot activated. It was suppose to happen not long after release but it has all gone quiet on that front.
Lordao
Verizon 3G is CDMA and does not use SIMs, instead using the Xoom's MEID (AKA "ESN") for identification and authentication to the network.
So as lordao said, the SIM is inactive now (as there's not even a 4G radio in our devices yet). Had you asked this post-4G upgrade, then the answer would have been "Yes" instead and you would have also had 4G speeds, too.
Thanks, that's what I was guessing as well and just wanted to check on confirmation. I would hate to have another expense and a 3rd mobile device with a payment due every month (Tmobile g2x with unlimited data, the usb 4g modem AND now a xoom? no way). I've had my heart set on a android tablet but I don't really want to lock myself into a wifi only device. Would love to have a tablet that I can keep my 4g sim in and swap out to the usb when I need to access the internet on my laptop.
I'm constantly moving from site to site for my job, this is killing my cell phone's battery ( I carry 3 batteries). Hoping to knock the cell phone down to personal data + voice and the xoom for email / vnc / google docs, then busting out the laptop for issues I need a full keyboard and full OS.
I've gotten my job down to the point I can do 90% of it from a tablet (logmein...google docs... etc), was dead set on buying a xoom and paying the cost per month, but having the boss suprise me with a 4g usb threw a monkey wrench in my plan.... not that i'm complaining at all
If you buy a $100 Cradlepoint CTR500 router (make sure it'll work with that 4G stick, though) then you can have LTE now, and if you get the $150(?) PHS300 it has a battery, too.
i second the idea of a cradlepoint phs300 router. Plug your 4g USB, and your good to go. On its internal battery, you get 2hrs, but if you get a car charger for it. Well you can run the router from the cigarette lighter, and if you have to you can unplug it and take the router with you. The phs300 hardly weighs a bit. Get the carry pouch for it and carry your modem in there too.

Atrix Laptop dock question

I have an atrix 4g at&t phone. I bought the unlock code to unlock it. I figured it would be helpful for using it on t-mobile and worldwide.
My question is this. Is the laptop dock locked to at&t, or is it that if my phone is unlocked and I am on t-mobile can I use the laptop laptop dock online? I want to get a dock now that they are cheaper.
Thanks in advance.
The dock is locked in no way.it it's simply a screen, keyboard and mouse pad. It connects via the phones modem, wifi or data.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
While the Lapdock is not locked to any particular carrier, you may find that when you plug your Atrix into the laptop dock you will not get online via the phone because it will try to verify that you have tethering enabled on your account. There's a workaround for that using RootExplorer/SQL DB Editor however....
I don't have t-mobile mobile data on my pre-paid sim so i can't do a lot of testing for you.
So if my unlocked at&t phone is using a tmobile sim with a plan that allows tethering the laptop dock should work online?
yes as long as phone has data and you have a active WIFI or Tethering plan the dock will work it is not tied to any provider

[Q] Is it possible to use MyTouch 4g without a data plan?

I would like to give my MyTouch 4g to my mom who is also on Tmobile. However, her plan doesn't include data. Is it possible to use the phone with her plan without racking up data charges? I'd essentially like to disable data over Tmobile and only use it over wifi. Can that be done? If so, how?
System settings/Wireless and network settings/ mobile networks/ uncheck data enabled.
This is for CM7 not sure about stock as I have never used it.

Turn off mobile data in quick settings in the notification bar
Sent from my T-Mobile MyTouch 4g
I tried turning off mobile networks in the quick settings and it mostly worked. However, a few minutes after I turned it off, the 4G sign came on and I was able to browse the internet. This only lasted for a minute or two and then I wasn't able to connect again. Any ideas what was going on?
I'll hand off the phone for now and run the experiment myself. I'll report if I notice data usage again.
If her plan doesn't have data, it wouldn't connect to data when she puts her sim in. My son has a Samsung Vibrant and doesn't have data on his line under our family plan and he's been that way for the past 3 years. So I wouldn't worry.

Yea I used a HTC magic without a data plan for a while. Carriers that say you must have a data plan with a smart phone are stupid. Don't listen to them.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda app-developers app
You don't need it the data SOC for use the phone that only carrier advice to gain more money so relax even if the H, 3G, E appear that mean the device(phone) is trying to connect but wolr no go thru bc the required service does not exist on your TMO acount

Anyone had success with a 3/4g USB dongle in the US?

I recently purchased a joying android 4.4.4 rk3188 headunit, and am doing some research on the USB 3g dongle working in the US. Joying claims their dongle they sell uses a WCDMA network, meaning we would need a verizon or sprint SIM card. However, verizon and sprint sell off the shelf prepaid usb dongles, plug and play.
Having never messed with usb network dongles before, maybe you guys have had some luck.
Does anyone have a usb dongle with data up and running on their android head unit in the US?
Thanks!
I bought a used huawei e2รป1 on eBay in hopes that I could add a line of data only to my Verizon plan - Verizon thought it could work, but the imei number on the dongle would not show up as a device in their system, so they couldn't Activate it - I used imei checkers from other carriers and it didn't show up either - been using my phone as WiFi hotspot and it works great - would love to find a solution to the dongle though
Use an obdc ap. I use 1 from at&t it's 10 buck's a month to add to your plan. And then you don't have to worry about setting up anything other than to connect to the WiFi in your car. Much easier. I bought a at&t USB modem and it was nothing but problems.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N915A using Tapatalk
Excuse me, what is an OBDC ap? I can't find anything like that at ATT.
He meant OBD2.
ATT has a "Connected Car" plan, that uses a 3g dongle connected to your car's OBD-II diagnostic port and only functions when the car is turned on, providing a wireless hotspot for your vehicle.
all of these sites list "WCDMA" and I know Verizon used CDMA and thought they were the same. I am about to buy a headunit from RoadNavi.com and they suggest this dongle:
http://www.roadnavi.com/product/3g-4g-usb-modem-huawei-e173/
But when I asked about it on Verizon's Chat on their website, they said it would not work. Then I saw somewhere that "WCDMA" is China, but I dont know where I read that.
I got a Huawei 3g USB modem from ebay - I have Verizon but it seems they don't support wcdma - I found a deal from Freedompop, which is a discount service - they had a deal where it cost 10.95 to buy the sim card (they do support wcdma) and the first month was free 1gb data and you can cancel anytime (that plan is 19.95 a month if you keep it) - with a little tinkering with settings I got it to work, but it is very slow- just barely fast enough to get data to Google maps or waze, but other more data intensive apps will barely work- remember, these units only get up to 3g speeds- if you use either your phone or a dedicated Hotspot you will get 4g LTE - that is the way to go in my opinion

Freedompop was actually one of the alternatives I was looking at to incorporate built in 3G into the head unit. What tweaks did you have to do get the Huawei modem, the android head unit, and Freedompop to get them all to play nicely together?

The FreedomPop SIM card comes with instructions on how to set APN settings - the stock ROM wouldn't allow me to enter the setting as it did not have a data settings tab - I installed Malaysk's ROM which recognized the modem and card and allowed for the settings to be changed - also, the APN name is not FreedomPop, which threw me for a minute (I actually assumed it was picking up another carrier's signal and tried to create a new APN - but if you see an APN listed, you just need to enter the setting that is sent with the SIM) - but like I said, it's dog slow and not very reliable in my opinion
What about a dongle like this? It supports 4G and does not seem to be limited to the WCDMA network

if you have T-Mobile, you can get the SyncUp Drive:
https://explore.t-mobile.com/t-mobile-sync-up-drive
It is basically just creating a wifi hotspot, but it works and is relatively cheap. Plus you get the features of the app and roadside assistance. I use it iwth my Joying
I dont have t-mobile but I do have att and I have been trying to get a zte mobley but they are out of stock everywhere.
I'm running a Huawei E397 with a Freedompop sim. My headunit is a Joying Intel Sofia unit. I use PPP Widget to get it to work correctly.
I have a Joying 2 GB specific model for Opel
But I I can't use it because I don't know how to configure network settings and APN...

Yes, only PPP Widget. I had trouble getting into the APN settings for PPP Widget. I'll see if I can figure out what I did. I think it was some combination of the "Connect" and "Configure" buttons on the widget.

I use a HUAWEI E397 B397Bu-501 and get 4GLTE on AT&T (Cricket) in the US on my Eonon GA2167. There was no need to use PPP widget, root or any other software. After inserting the USB stick I was able to access the Cellular Networks menu and edit the APN data.
anyone that have verizon have any luck with verzion branded LTE sticks?
I tried the pantech uml290w-g but no luck there..
