Hi all,
I have a dual boot HD2 with MIUI Android 1.10.28 on SD and stock WM 6.5 ROM.
I'm getting used to switch frequently between the two OSes since I've got several
applications I've to use for my everyday work on both sides of the wall!
While e-mails are on IMAP and calendar is synced via google or activesync I'm in
trouble with SMS which I use frequently for work purposes.
Is there up to now a syncing solution between the two which doesn't mess up all
the thing? I've read of Exchange 2010 but no one states that it really works.
Thanks for your help!
Riccardo
Dear Folks,
Can anyone help with this? I have just upgraded to dual boot WM6.5 and Android, but do not want to lose my SMS

Hi Guys,
Its my first step in Android world. I have been using Windows Mobile since last 5 years (Currently HTC tytn II). I am very impressed with HTC Hero promos and customization. But before I move to Android world and buy this phone, it would be very helpful if any of you can provide answers to my following queries. Apologies, as it may be very basic questions for you but these functionalities very necessary for me as I use almost every day in my Windows phone.
Question for Android (HTC Hero)-
1. Can I sync Outlook address and calendar Android (HTC Hero)?
2. Can I open/edit word, excel and power point presentations? (If yes then does it come by default with phone like I got it with my HTC tytnII)
3. I need navigation software. (I saw one is available here http://www.alk.eu.com/. is there any other for Android like i use TomTom in my phone).
4. Any email client where i can configure Pop3, Imap or company microsoft exchange server.
5. Voice chat messengers (like i use fring(www.fring.com) for my windows phone)
Thanks in advance.
Jit
Hello there
Welcome to Android world. I don't know so much about android till now. But if you search the forum you can get all your question answered. I'm trying to help you from my little knowledge.
1. You can sync your contacts and their information from outlook.
2. HTC Hero has Quickoffice. So, I think you should be able to open/edit word, excell or powerpoint docs.
3. You can use AndNav2 for your navigation. The software is free in the Market.
4. Yes, you can configure your e-mail clients.
5. I haven't got any voice messaging service till now for android.
Hope these helps. If you have any other questions first try to search the forum .
Thanks.
there are tons of free IM apps out there.
1) Meebo (the best one)
2) eBuddy
3) IM+ (not free)
4) HelloYm, HelloAim, HelloMSN
5) IM app (built in android)
pda_crazy, as you have a HTC Tytn II, have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396782 and try Android for yourself. The latest build for Kaiser/Tytn II is from the Google Ion (HTC Magic) rather than the Hero, so the Sense UI is not present. Also, wi-fi, camera and bluetooth are not working, but GPS, Android Market and Google sync are. It may require some tweaking to get the best experience on the Tytn II as different versions of the phone seem to have particular issues with calls and/or data but I am running it on my UK Kaiser (MDA Vario III) at the moment and have calls, sms, sync, Android Market and GPS working fine. Battery life is a bit of an issue, but if you can get it working it will give you a chance to download and try out a variety of Android applications before paying for an Android phone.
not so simple
I have a hero. The quick office can only open word docs, have trouble with excel . It will not edit. You can sync outlook contacts and calendar . I could make a gmail account on it but not yahoo so far. Still looking for a good explorer software in which I can keep stuff where I want. Any suggestions ?

DocumentsToGo is pretty much the only app for editing doc and xls on android. If you want a file explorer both 'Astro' and 'Linda File Manager' are good.
HTC sync VS active sync

Hi there!
As I'm currently a Windows mobile user about to take the step over to Hero I just want to make sure that I can use my Hero at work as well.
Today I sync my work contacts and work calendar with outlook using active sync.
When syncing I don't have to enter any information at all, the sync sets up automatically. Does HTC sync work in the same way!?
Do you have to set up the HTC sync by entering server names and stuff like that, or is it just like active sync that everything is automatical!?
All answers are apreciated!

I am so lazy, i ask here, so i did not start new thread.
Few days still and i get Dream again.
The ROM in it si some Hero thing. Isn´t that mean Dream is rooted and HardSpl in it? I can go and put Cyanogens ROM in it? If i understand it right, you can´t put any other ROM in unless you first put HSpl and root?
Sorry my bad english, hope someone catch what i mean...
Edit: Root and HardSpl ok, so now Cyan and works great...
Hey everybody!
I presume there won't be too many people that will have had experience with the SMS sync feature, so I hope one or two people out there can help me.
I have the problem that everthing is activated, but it only synced the last conversation with my mate (so lets say 2 text messages out of a couple of hundred).
Anyone have an idea how to force exchange to sync ALL the messages?
Using a Touch Pro 2, in case that should help diagnostics move along a bit
Unfortunately i'm having this same issue. I would like to simply recreate the whole SMS/MMC folder in my Exchange box, but havn't found a way to force the behavior. I get the feeling SMS syncing was a last minute thought and not completely fleshed out.
As I said, strange thing is that everything that is coming in on the phone is now being synced...
all the messages prior aren't, with the exception of the 2 sms between me and my mate.
Gotta love Microsoft. Never gets boring....
Has anyone experienced any issues with syncing sms messages on the newer builds of 23xxx? Specifically I've noticed that when I send the messages from Outlook 2010, sometimes (not always) my phone gets really sluggish. The process activesync.exe starts using up tons of CPU usage. I'm currently using a HD2 using Kumar's ROM based on WM 6.5.5 b23569

I can definitely confirm that for my HTC HD Mini. It has a wm6.5.3 stock rom, i had to use Zenyee patch to disable HTC Messaging to get SMS Sync working, because HTC screwed up on that.
And I can confirm, that sending SMS through Outlook 2010 slows down the device and ActiveSync goes up to 98% cpu usage.
Any news on that? A hotfix or something?
Any solutions to this yet? I'm having the same issues + the issue that I can't send sms from Outlook but only from Outlook OWA

you need outlook 2010 to be able to send SMS's from outlook itself, any other version will not work, ive had 2003, 2007 and now 2010, and only 2010 does it.
also ive expirienced my phone being slow and useless when SMS syncing is enabled, its really a pain in the ass.
ive gone through 20 phones in the last 2 months, constantly buying and selling, its getting ridiculous, no 1 phone does everything i want.
all i need is full exchange connectivity (tasks and sms included), mobile office so i can use my spreadsheets, slide out keyboard, 3G, decent camera with flash. its obviously neither android, WM or apple can meet all those requirements.
Hi all, tried a search but may not be thinking the right Query.
I would like to try the Android builds for a while but when you fire up from SD the builds dont seem to be able to access the Contacts details etc on the device - am i missing something that allows this ?
Thanks
Winmo to outlook, outlook to Gmail, Gmail to Android.
That's what I did.
Helllo!
I am wondering if there is a programm out there that ports my wm contacts, calllogs and messages to Android and, even more important, back to WM.
It is very annoying, having some messages on the Android system and some on wm. Since WM is my basic OS, I try to find a way, getting the messages i received while using Android back to WM..
Thanks for your help and kindest regards!
Hi, in order to avoid this problem I've done the following:
Transfert from WM to Android:
I used SpriteBackup and SpriteMigrate
You can find how to proceed on their website (SpriteMigrate is free).
Nb: I didn't transfer my agenda as it's synch with my PC (I used HTCSynch to retreive my meetings).
To avoid receiving calls and Sms in WM:
easy... put WM in "flight mode".
You will only be connected under Android.
This will only work if you choose to switch completely to Android.
Ideas but not tested for migration:
You can try also to synch all WM with outlook, then Outlook with Android if you have a sense version (use HTCSynch).
MyPhoneExplorer may also do the trick.
Dear ladies and gentlemen,
for a few days now I'm a proud owner of an android(SD)-booting Leo.
I still use WinMo every now and then.
Is there a way to keep contacts and (most important) sms synced? I mean from WinMo to Android and the other way round. I know a lot of apps for contacts, but for sms it's really only WinMo to Android and not vice versa.
TIA,
Arcat
PS: Give me something to answer, only 2 posts (i guess) to signature enabled ,) )
Well you can use your gmail account to sync between winmo and android as far as I know, google it there is a solution I think.
Or you could try this out, not sure if it auto syncs but it can migrate.

Thank you,
already tried googlemail with activesync. works fine, but sms excluded.
http://spb.com/android-software/migration/ is, as always, only from winmo to android and not vice versa.
Have you thought about "MyPhoneExplorer"? Lets you sync with outlook, export SMS, etc... Then you could use activesync on the winmo side...kinda wonky but might fit you needs...
