i was ondering if there were any software that would allow 2exec' to estabilish a video chat session over wifi rather than paying for the 3G rates... also if there were a way to do the same with regular pc users too
thanks for any information
Not as yet even though the camera does have the facility to be integrated into applications, unfortunately no-one has yet!
Video calling is good though!
I sent an email to the MS Portrait team and they told me that this may be included in a future version if they can get the camera API.
I think it would be a killer app that will separate the Jasjar from all the others.

You are wrong. With PocketCaster www.comvu.com you can stream videos from both cameras via GPRS, UMTS, WiFi up to Comvu-Server.

Thanx, man! Bravo for the info!
That's amazing! I just downloaded and played a bit but I couldn't really play that much seeing as O2 only give me 1MB a month!! booooo
Dubrand,
Thanks for the info. However since I haven't yet seen this tool you are referring to, is this tool solely a video blog? In other words, from what you are saying, it cannot be used to do an interactive chat between two people on the fly (like in MSN Messenger on the PC) but only to save and upload a video clip on a server no?
Tks.
Thanks Dubrand! Looks like a fun little app/service. 8)
Thanks a lot!
It cannot be used to do an interactive chat between two people on the fly (YET). But i think this is a terrific proof of the concept that the build in camera can be used in (interactive) applications from third parties. An exciting promise for future use of the HTC Universal.
thanks for the info. i think this is a must have and when it is fully integrated into say msn messenger this will be my far the best device / gadget for years
3g video web conferencing
Any developers who fancy having a bash at developing such a website feel free to contact me. www.meetnow.co.uk...I have the ideas, web address (not live yet)...but lacking the technical know how..

it surely will be a big kicka**
The header is the question really in total. Snazzy wee webcam .. MSN Messenger.. the two go great on yer desktop. But on your PDA?. I think we should be told. Looking at a quick past glimpse of posts past .. its a non runner.. but what a wasted opportunity! If you think you know how it can be done .. write in .. NOW!.

Oh and a whinge. ClearVue doesnt want to display my PDF file (jrcalc_guidelines_v3_2004.pdf) but Adobe Reader will .. however as on my Nokia 9500 the pages dont reflow so reading means scrolling all over the shop .. what a palaver! But on the laptop . no probs.. cheers!
Thats it .. now you can go!.
Errrm....not sure if you are asking a question or ranting about MSN.
Wouldn't life be grand if things were as simple as MSN utilizing the same functionality as the Dialer App (i.e. video). Have you SEEN the MSN client? It's about as full of features as MSN version 1.99999.
As to your second comment--many of us here are in agreement that ClearVue screws things up, but Adobe does a better job. There are pros and cons of using both.

Since almost nobody uses video calling, the 2nd camera is currently a bit of a waste. MSN messenger usage would be killer.
I'm asking myself the same question as well as wether you can use this device like a normal webcam (for your pc). I have found some references on http://www.mobile-review.com claiming that you can use a Universal as a webcam for msn but it doesn't say how!
However I did find this: http://www.zone1.de/PocketPC/index.html#webcam
which claims to be software that can upload pictures (e.g. every 10 seconds ) from the Universal to a webpage...interesting...anyone tried this?
Also anyone know how to stream video to a webpage from a universal??
Like http://www.comvu.com/ ?

Hey guys i was wondering if anyone knows of any good dedicated facebook apps? im kind of sick of using PIE/opera mini to look at it, so i was wondering if anyone created a standalone program that optimizes the experience
mmmm..
i second that...i was looking for a app for facebook like the one on the blackberry or the myspace app like on the sidekick lx....i mean it would make it easier to get on our myspace or facebook....if anyone can develop it dat can make a large profit since theres millions of ppl that use myspace especially...

I'm sure there is one out there. Search for a pocket pc app. The forums here are more for rom modding and dev. Windows pocket pc will get you there.

Yes and it's a good one but it's too expensive.
$39.95 for IM
I used to use slick on S60 and it supported file transfer. Been using slick on my x1 but I havent try to use files transfer yet. You could try that, just google lonecate games slick.
I'm using BeeJiveIM and fring occasionally....but BeeJive seems to work best so far.
I kinda want a IM app thats finger friendly. But it's rather hard to find
IM comparison

today I checked new version of Fring(3.3.4) which has file transfer. It has real
file trasfer not just as a link! but I can not transferr MP3 with that.
Have anyone tried the new version on XPERIA?

Same here,
If you use msn you can even send offline messages.
The downside is that the font is too small for our resolution but still usable.

I would be interested in locating a mobile version of QQ (english preferably..)
I've been using Palringo.
Works alright for me, could be better.
Sometimes I need a soft reset for it to log in, wont log in other wise, dont know why.
Also, do the other apps make the Instant Message LED indicator flash? I know its there in the illumination settings, but palringo doesnt trigger it :|
I like also the EQO Messenger http://www.eqo.com/.
i use slick. a bit slow on some menus but i like it better than nimbuz as it does not require you to log a web server to use.
I use Live messenger and Skype, just as on the laptop.
I have tried fring but it wasn't quite it...
IM+ FTW!!!
I too second IM+. It simply works, while many others simply did not. I use ICQ, GT and Jabber protocols.
And skype for skype, sure, but it's constant data flow and thus constant battery drain. Good if it's cold outside and you want to keep your hands warm
I like fring
