Ok you need to breathe buddy, it's just been announced it will most probably take a month before it will be available on HTC as they need to incorporate Sense to it.
well if you recall the desire made the jump from 2.1 to 2.2 pretty soon after the 2.2 announcement, considering the DHD is the new flagship phone id imagine a very similar situation if not there is always custom roms
Wonder if cyanogen will publish it before htc that will be sweet

The DHD will most likely be the first HTC handset to receive the update. However, how long this takes is anyone's guess. Then your carrier will modify the update, unless of course you got a stock unbranded DHD.
My money is on Cyanogen, real money. If CM releases 2.3 before HTC I'll donate again.

dont you compile the roms from the sdk ?, pretty sure all the android files are available in the sdk you just need to create a rom from them. (i think)

Nope, the roms can't be made until the source code is released or another device gets it to be ported over.
Roms can be made from the sdk but don't turn out very well to say the least.
I expect an announcement soon from HTC, i doubt they will let their flagship higher specs phone fall short against their direct competitor, classic desire was the first device to get froyo after the nexus
I'm betting on it being out around Christmas time,
Probably in 2 weeks we'll start to get them trickling out...
I hope that dhd will get it as soon as possible, but wouldn't be surprised if Samsung s get's it first considering cooperation of Google with them on new G phone.

Unfortunately the N1 was pretty much the same as the Desire. And was built by HTC. Now the situation is a little bit different having Google cooperating with the plastic-toy manufacturer . Then again I doubt Galaxy S will get 2.3 sooner than the DHD, because they got to 2.2 about a month ago.

really glad to hear samsung listen to their customers!
I agree that an official update from Samsung for our gtab would be most welcome. However, by the time any of us see this update (seeing as this obviously wasn't originally on Samsung's radar and the snail like pace with which carriers provide updates) I'm pretty sure that the awesome dev's we have working on CM9 and the ICS team will be able to provide something much sexier, making the update moot for many that follow those threads.
Still though, nice to see that Samsung is considering not throwing year old adopters under the bus (yet!)
Hello,
That could be a great news once confirmed by Samsung.
I'm sure the devs here will make it even better once the first official roms (even an alpha) get leaked. The community has already a "spy" at Samsung, Cyanogenmod founder
Well, they are now talking about a "Value Pack", not a real ICS OS but possibly a new Touchwiz thing with some ICS features

It’s been awhile since the last update and I just wanted to let everyone know about our progress with CM9. As I mentioned in the previous update, Android 4.0 contains many internal changes that require updated graphics drivers. Unfortunately, these drivers are almost always closed-source and don’t appear until a device or devkit is released with them. For many devices, our hands are tied. Some very clever workarounds have gone into CM9, but we’re still blocked on some subsystems like the camera.
Since Android 4.0 is such a major change from 2.3, we started with a fresh codebase from Google and have been forward-porting features from CM7 with an eye on design and better integration. This is a somewhat time-consuming process, but it allows us to rethink everything. We’ve eliminated the CMParts app, instead choosing to add our custom features directly into the main settings. We are also taking a “just works” approach when it comes to configuration- CM7 had too many options that just weren’t widely used. We hope to achieve a good balance between tweakability and a great out-of-the-box experience. I want your phone or tablet to feel like it should have come with CM9.
Currently, you can compile CM9 for a small number of devices- notably the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Wi-Fi and T-Mobile versions), the HP Touchpad and Motorola Xoom. The next devices to show up will likely be a whole array of Samsung phones (Exynos chipset), with devices based on the Qualcomm MSM8660 and 7×30 chipsets to follow. It’s still unclear if we can provide support for the QSD8x50 family of devices (Nexus One, HTC Evo, etc), but the answer almost always turns out to be “yes” for these kinds of things.
As our hardware support improves, I’ll keep this blog updated. As much as we’d like to stay ahead of the manufacturers, it may be a tie this time Thanks for the continued support, and please consider dropping us a buck or two using the link at the bottom of the page if you enjoy CyanogenMod.

Lack of GPU a Heavy Loss
As we don't have a GPU in Wildfire, we won't be able to enjoy the animation and effects in ICS.
Gingerbread Animation stumbles often in CM7.1. If the wildy was equipped with a GPU, it would definitely be getting ICS officially.... FYI, HTC Wildfire @ buzz is the 7th device in most installation according to CM stats.
Atleast I'm happy with it for 2 years now... Better than My Girlfriend... LOL..
Just tried out the ICS by ErwinP and i found it quiet good. OC'ed to 652MHz and it was a bit smooth. The lack of GPU showed when the screen became slow when coming out of the app drawer.
Live wallpapers didn't work at all like the camera. But the rest was smooth. Wifi , calls , sms , images etc.
Give it a time and it may become stable on wildfire.

HTC didn't announce ICS update, despite its brothers getting it.
We assumed it was hardware limitations with the smaller RAM (512mb)
But now HTC have announced the new HTC One V with ICS and Sense 3.6/4.0.
And guess what? It only has 512mb aswell.
So RAM can't be the issue. Maybe CPU power?

The issue is that HTC has A LOT of phones. The Desire Z has already received a major Android update. It is not a flagship phone, nor a big seller.
Or in short....$$$$$$$$.

True, but the Desire Hd (released at the same time) is getting the update.
And that phine hasn't just had one, or two or three major updates....

I think Nospin is right; commitment to the development of Android varies among different manufacturers. Commitment to profit does not. There is limited upside to them providing an upgrade. Chances are, we'll still purchase the next HTC phone when we get the money and/or discounted price with contract from our carriers, despite them choosing not to upgrade our phones. In other words, why provide us with an additional free service, when they're going to get our money in the future anyway. In fact, providing the upgrade might *deter* us from buying their latest and greatest.

That's cause the Desire HD IS a flagship device.
But I hope so, we will get custom ICS from HTC ONE V. I think it will be brilliant
I don't think the desire z will get a OTA update either. I think they plan it this way so that we have to upgrade and won't be content on sticking it out with our old devices. Either way the desire z will get ICS from cm9 most likely. It's taken longer then I wanted but I know it's in the works.
Just use Andromadus. I know it's not official, but you can rock it now. Which counts for a lot.

If this was Samsung, then I would agree with the Desire Z getting ICS. However HTC has already given us an unlocked bootloader as well as the source code for the Desire Z. There's no need for HTC to get involved anymore. This is exactly why places like XDA are important to the rest of us who "knows" our devices are still kicking strong because then we can just do the work ourselves. And besides, even if Desire Z does get an ICS update: the majority of us will still prefer Custom ROMs anyways. This way, everybody wins. HTC maintains a healthy reputation with us and we get to save some money.
heh, by "we", I mean the talented devs that still support our devices. I'm personally useless.

I agree, I think there would be two benefits of having ICS come officially to Desire Z / G2. First would be that that ROM would be a lot easier to modify and tinker with by the dev's then what they are working with currently. The second benefit would be in the form of less people asking for eta's on cm9. I would rather use a custom version of a rom than a stock rom, but the same doesn't go for everybody. I bet a lot of the traffic on xda is people just wanting ICS on their device period.

You don't need to use CyanogenMod 9 to have ICS. And HTC Vision is listed with 512MB RAM anyways.
I am about to give up on cm9 and go backwards. I want a 1.6 super d rom from my g1 on my g2. Hell I might go back to eclair if I could, just to flash something different. ...

It is possible to port old roms but really... maybe I'm in the minority but there are so many roms to choose from on the g2 why are so many people hung up on needing a solid ics build. I get it the latest is the greatest but what more are you really going to get out of it? Plenty of amazing aosp, cyanogen based and sense roms out here that work amazing, how can anyone be so unsatisfied to want to go back to a donut rom?
