Hello,
I know that you can hack the Focus to get the Internet sharing but I saw that the Omnia will have an update to get it. Can we exepct the Focus to have the same kind of udpdate since they are very similar?
I have a Samsung Focus v1.2 when I got to the diag. menu. (HW VERSION: REV 1.2)

No, I wouldn't expect that. AT&T announced Internet Sharing only for Focus S/Flash, both Gen2 phones. And they've hunted down any Gen1 user that has Internet Sharing enabled on their WP7 phone. And I doubt they're going to turn 180*.
Interesting! I don't think I've heard of a HW 1.2 revision so far!!! We had 1.0, 1.3 and 1.4, at least that's what I know. Are you on Mango?
Yes, to be exact I got: HW VERSION: REV 1.2 and FTA HW VERSION: REV 1.3
As long as your device is unlocked in some way (Developer/Chevron/Other) you can get internet sharing on your Samsung phone.
1.) First install the WP Dev Tools and unlock your Samsung phone.
2.) Use the Application Deployment tool to send THIS to your phone. You do not need to run it and you can delete it after it has been deployed.
3.) Install the Diagnosis app by typing ##634#
4.) After the Diagnosis app starts type *#9908# and select 'System Tweaks' press 'Save' then 'Close' and restart your phone.
5.) Your phone now has internet sharing and as a bonus is interop unlocked!
PS: You need to have a recent firmware on your phone or your diagnosis app and drivers will not be new enough to work.
EDIT: I built the file depoyer app using the tools provided by Heathcliff74 so many thanks to him! Also ADC is built in as well so no need to worry about that and I also upped the max number of connections from 3 to 5 devices.
Wow! Thank you, it works perfectly
What can I do if my firmware appears to be out of date (I get Diagnosis rev. 0929)?

Uninstall it (press and hold) and run it again from Dialer, you should get the new one, if your OS is updated.
this method worked great. i got my 1.3 focus to finally have wireless tethering. welcome to the new age windows phone
I am new to Windows phone. I purchased a used Samsung Focus. It was locked to AT&T. OS-version 7.10.7720.68 , Firmware: 2103.11.8.1 , Hardware revision: 3.1.0.7, Radio Software: 2103.11.8.1 , Radio Hardware: 0.0.0.3, BOOTloader: 5.8.0.2 , CHIP SOC version: 0.36.2.0
So, I purchased sim-unlock code and inserted T-mobile sim-card. It works fine. But I read that AT&T has disabled many Mango features. I would like to enable them. For example: I'd like to enable "internet sharing" or making my phone a personal wifi hotspot. I followed the steps but didn't get it to work. Here is my response to each step:
1.) First install the WP Dev Tools and unlock your Samsung phone.

my phone is already unlocked as I can use T-mobile sim card. No idea what is WP Dev Tools (?) and what to do with it if phone is already unlocked
2.) Use the Application Deployment tool to send THIS to your phone. You do not need to run it and you can delete it after it has been deployed.

Sim-Unlocked isnt the same thing as Dev-Unlocked , all the info you need is in the aforementioned forum , get reading!
I know this is an older thread, but I just wanted to thank you for the excellent write up. Up until today I haven't had a need to tether anything to my phone, but after grabbing an MS Surface, I suddenly found a need for it.
I followed your simple directions, and now I have internet sharing in my settings. Excellent!
Are you on AT&T? Unless you pay for the ability to share, you might want to keep the share to a minimum, or they will add the feature to your bill for you.

Hi Everyone,
I just received a brand new ATT Focus from US ( with the SIM unlocking code also ).
The phone is rev 1.3 and running 7392 atm.
Searched and searched on XDA, Google also...couldn't find a definitive answer at all...
What is the easiest/fastest way to get to dev unlocked Mango ?
So far, from what I've read is to revert to 7004-chevron unlock-update NoDo- keep the unlock-update mango ( of course some registry tweaks during the way).
Thanks,

Try on another computer. That solved it for many.
Job done
haha, I wasn't seeing the trees because of the forest.
For anyone that might get interested in this, here are the steps that worked great for me ( didn't put any SIM, nor had the time adjusted):
All info I had maily came from this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1143999
1. Install/flash 7004. Unlock via chevron. Use any registry editor to erase the values from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > DeviceReg/PortalUrlInt, remove its value data and save it. Do the same with PortalUrlProd
2.Zune upgrade to 7008.
3.Zune upgrade to NODO.
STOP THE UPDATING WHEN DONE otherwise ZUNE will automatically proceed to the last two updates that leads to Mango.
4. Deploy http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=722646&d=1316284246
5. Deploy http://www.edisk.cz/en/download/38910/New_SMS_unlock.xap_41.01KB.html
6. Make root /provxml. Copy unlock.xml to it.
7. Let Zune do the rest.
In my case, everything worked flawless and updated to the last samsung update: fm 2103.11.8.1; radio: 2103.11.8.1 BL: 5.8.0.2
you forgot to mention that after updating to mango 7720, you need to run the diagnostics app to load the "unlocked" profile. Heres a link to the thread, but this thread i find is unclear;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16809179
What i did was the following AFTER the update to MANGO!
1. Enter the diagnostics terminal by entering "##634#" as a phone number
2. Typed "*#9908#" in the diag. mode, which brought me to the GPRS settings
3. Scrolled through the list of profiles, selected "unlock", clicked "save"
4. now your focus is ready for sideloaded apps!

Consider me new; can you connect steps 4 and 5 with step 6? 4/5 are each XAP files, what purpose does each serve?
Also (and maybe related), unlock.xml seems to be within one of the linked XAPs if you change it's extension to ZIP. How do I copy it to /provxml? This isn't self evident to me, but maybe it is once in Root Tools? I haven't been in Root Tools yet, but is there somewhere to do step 6 within this and if so, can you summarize where?
Sorry for the many questions, there's a lot of info that's hard to digest on the matter - this is pretty close to being the best (most understandable) step-by-step once the questions I posed are answered. Thanks.

When you get to NoDo-cancel search for updates as it will surely get you to Mango without unlock.
Install ''WP7 Root Tools" from the link-yes it is a xap.
Install " New SMS" xap from the link.
Open WP& root tools on phone. Make a provxml folder in root. Navigate to Applications/Install/D19A80F2-..../Install and copy unlock.xml.
Paste unlock.xml inside the previously created PROVXML folder.
Exit.
Go to home screen open Phone.
Go to dialer- dial ##634#. A new program should open.
Type *#9908# and a new dialog comes out.
Choose unlock from the list. Press save. Exit.
Done. Fertig. Listo. Finito.
Hope it's clearer this time. Good luck.
This steps should be posted in a new thread and stickied.. IMO, its really hard to find good collected guide about the focus...
3G not working after Unlock
Hey guys, have you noticed that 3G data doesnt work anymore after loading the unlock.xml profile under Mango? I tried reloading the other presets that were available in the GPRS diag. shell, but my 3G is still knocked out. Any thoughts? I am with Rogers in Canada

Just to confirm, you went through 7392, 7403, and 7720 all BEFORE selecting the unlock profile, right? LOL, I rolled back to Nodo to do this a few days ago, and Zune isn't giving me the option to update anymore, so when (if?) it finally does, I want to make sure I don't screw up and have to roll back again.
Not sure why it continues to tell me no updates are available when I have already gone through the update (using the official process) before, so I know it has been released to me. Perhaps it was only "available" to me briefly before they moved on to a different set of users?
do i have to use the unlock using dialpad BEFORE or AFTER mango update... im in 7392 (i think thats NoDo???) right now, and im confused

I tried forcing a million times with every possible timing and situation covered - no go. It either says "no update available", or "cannot check while your internet connection is down".
The irony is I was already pushed Mango officially (without having to force it), but I didn't use the steps to prevent relocking. So I restored back to my unlocked NoDo to do the above steps, and ... well, now I'm stuck.
What gives?!?

Dude... This worked for me.
I do have a small doubt. If I reset the phone after all this will it affect the unlock? I would like to reset the phone and login with my new id.
Please let me know dear...
Once again Thank you so much for the guidance...
After reset, the phone is deleted, thus your settings, certificates, files, pictures etc (everything on it) are gone.
So you will lose the developer unlock, but the OS after reset will be 7720 (latest you upgraded to). If you want to have unlock after a hard reset, you have to start again from 7004 (re-flash).
I recently bought a Samsung Focus on Ebay. I updated it to Mango via Zune. Can I still unlock using Chevron? Or would I have to downgrade and how?
Sorry, first time using WP7.

You need to start over from 7004 to be unlocked in Mango. You can only unlock in 7004/7008 unless you pay for developer unlock.

Yes, you can upgrade it, and yes, it should be working in Lima.
All updates for the phone come from Microsoft, through the local mobile carriers.
You will have to download zune and it should update on its own. If not you can trick it into thinking your using a different carrier . I had at&t and they didn't release a few different updates so I changed it to bell Canada and got all of them.

Confirmed. Received 7.8 update yesterday via Zune. It applied about 3-4 updates before it was done. Very happy with it. Does anyone know if WP7 Root Tools will work on 7.8 and is there a screenshot function available when it's rooted?

Lucky I am on SaskTel, running Telstra firmware, cannot get an update through Zune yet. Tried de-branding my phone, restored to factory, branded to SaskTel, spent hours trying to get the cable-pull trick to fool Zune... absolutely nothing!!! A little disappointed, and hoping I won't have to wait too long for the notification to show up on my phone. Probably would have been best if I hadn't checked Google and found out that the update was rolling today - then I wouldn't have wasted so much time, and I wouldn't be so disappointed now!! Haha Anyway, have fun with it, hope to be enjoying mine soon, too.

Hi! I m also on att, but today i was able to get WP7.8, the way to do it is debranding your phone!
Enable the MFG application by going to the dialer and dialing ##634# then pressing call. LG Phone Problem and Solution
Launch the MFG application and enter 277634#*# when prompted for a password.
Select the Engineer Menu item.
Select the Other Setting menu item.
Select the Edit registry menu item.
Set the input boxes on this menu as follows:
Select ROOT_PATH: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Input SUB_PATH: \System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\
Input KEY: MobileOperator
Data Type: STRING
Select Query and write down the result for re-branding (just in case)
To debrand leave the input data field “000-88″, apply the changes.
Connect to Zune and check for updates.
Good luck!

So, I've used the SevenEighter app and that worked superb. The app will crash after each successive update, and you have to reselect the languages (6 for me) existing on the phone before each install. But other than that, works just fine Got like 4-5 updates (I think from 7720) till 7.8.
The app is here: http://windowsphonehacker.com/articles/want_windows_phone_7.8_now_try_this_easy_tool-01-31-13

Thanks for the tip. I got impatient when nothing was working, so I tried Seven-Eighter. Worked for me! Yay =)
The windowshonehacker tool worked for me but not the first time. It gave me error 80180048 and then I did a phone reset and chose only English language and it worked.
Thanks guys.

Good luck!

I did the de-branding above and it ATT LG-C900 updated, but I don't thin it is 7.8. It still says Windows Phone 7.5
OS version: 7.10.8107.79
Firmware 1.1.6.10
Can someone verify if this 7.8?
I don't think this is 7.8 because the home screen hasn't changed.

What is your OS version #?
update:
ok, the 7.8 OS version # is 7.10.8858.136
I finally got my ATT LG C900 updated to 7.8, here's what I did:
1. De-brand the phone: this got the phone updated up to 7.10.8107.79
2. Do the "Disconnect" method: by placing the phone into airplane mode and then timing to see how many seconds it took from clicking the Update until it give you the message that the your phone is up to date. Now do it again, but this time disconnect your computer's internet 1 second before the time that you just measured. This is just trial and error. You have to do this many time until you get the message that you have an update. Now, when you get the message that you have an update, turn on your computer's internet and then click on the Update button to update your phone. You have to repeat step 2 for every update until you get to OS version #7.10.8858.136 (it took me about 4 or 5 updates before reaching 7.10.8858.136).
Disconnect Method
How many updtes are there between 7883 and 8858?
Its taking awefully long...
Has anyone tried the Bluetooth yet?

I don't remember exactly, but I think it's just 1 or 2 updates. You have to do the timing exactly (one second before whatever your measure time is) to trigger the update.
Hey guys, after many days of experiment, brick, sideloading and many more I have successfully unlocking band for our Z1. Currently I only tested with C6902(unlock all utms/wcdma band), dont know will it works on LTE version(unlock all band, include LTE and UTMS). But I will borrow that from some of my friends:good::good::good:
Unlocking guide will be post later

Well, I wanted you to write down some kind of a guide or at least an explanation how's that possible. I thought that other radios just don't exist physically.

Well, Sony use the same MDM9615 modem + MSM8974 for all 4g LTE variant. For 6902 they only use older modem+MSM8274 (it's a downgrade version of 8974 without LTE modem support). Sony only lock the band in baseband.

Confirm it works on Z Ultra And ZR. But no LTE Z1 to test it
Sure. But I'm developing the method for the guide
I will throw some pic too (for tutorial things )
1.Install QPST first
2.Download HTCDiagDriver
3. Unzip HTCDiagDriver, open htcdiag.inf
Change this from
%OEMDevice02% = OEMPort02, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C07&MI_04

Click to collapse
to this
%OEMDevice02% = OEMPort02, USB\VID_0FCE&PID_5146&MI_04
Click to collapse
Save the file
Use your phone and enter this *#*#8778*#*#
4.Now connect your phone, make sure usb debug on and connect into mtp, open adb and type this
adb shell
su
setprop persist.usb.eng.1
Click to collapse
5.Now turn off usb debug ,disconnect your phone, wait for about 10s and connect to pc again
6. Now you will see your pc will be install driver for debug sony mode. Just wait until it say cant install driver. Now you use "Have disk" method to install htcdiagdriver (There are several devices like "C6902", just watch hardware ids of them and choose "MI_04"and install driver.)
7. After install driver, open QPST -> QPST Configuration using start menu button (Must do, otherwise you will stuck, IDK why this but just do that)
8. After open QPST Con, switch to Ports tab, press Add new port, untick "Show Serial and USB......." and press OK
9.Now in port tab you will see COMx port that show MSM8974:victory::victory:
10.Open QPST install directory -> bin-> RV_NV_Manager.exe
11. After open that, click setting -> Comport. Choose your phone COM port
12. Now press file-> Read from phone. It will load slowly, be calm now:angel::angel:
13. After it load done, scroll to 1877 section, click on that. Paste the decimal number here and I will continue the guide
Pls backup nandroid first and prepare full ftf incase it wont start again
@olokos
Bad news guys, after found out how to unlock baseband, my phone start to behave like corrupted baseband (and other phone I test this mod too, same behavior). So my research will be continue and the guide I will post later. If anyone mod walk around here, pls close this thread. In future I will post the guide with complete bug-free procedure

Hello, I just bought a new motoactv.. But I now see, that because of the fact they shut down Motoact, I cant create an ID. and therefor I cant use the watch as it is. I could root it, but I dont think it will give me the functionality (advanced interval for running) as it can now.
so..is there anyone who can give me their login as they dont use Motoactv.com anymore?
Would be highly appreciated!!

Yeah, but since the pc doesnt recougnise the watch as a USB storage device, and WIFI cant be installed, I never get to create an account. I now have the account details of the person where I bought it from, but I suppose I can as well throw it away, Motorola doesnt give support either.

Stop adbd shell in your watch.
Easiest way - via MotoACTV Root Tool from http://www.cleardroidroms.com/motoactv.php

Go to Settings -> General -> Motoactv status -> Software version.
Post it here.

This is initial release or first maintenance version. A really old software.
Update your Motoactv to latest and root only after that.
Keep in mind that versions for 8Gb and 16Gb are different. Choose firmware only for your device.
OR
Install Motorola Device Manager from here https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/88481
Plug in your Motoactv.
MDM has to check it and upgrade to latest (but I have no idea, will it be correct as I have never seen such old firmware like yours)
'Advanced functionality' won't be enabled with root.
Interval training can be enabled/planned via Motoactv portal.
So, upgrade your watch, add new wifi from settings -> wireless, then register new account, go to http://motoactv.com
Voila.

I already rooted it I think.
Problem is, when I run motorola device manager, it only says, no updates and at device it says "N/a"? So no clue how to get the latest software on it.

Uninstall Motorola Device Manager.
Install this version - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9ZhejL5ANmGQjdreG5jR3YybTg/edit
2.4.5 definitely had correct drivers.
Check that battery on your watch is fully charged.
MDM has to detect your Motoactv correctly, search for software and upgrade it,
If it won't - look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1534073
3) Fastboot:
- Operating System: Windows/Linux/Mac
- Instructions (Windows): Unpack the zip, run flash-all.bat (if it fails, run as administrator)
- Instructions (Linux/Mac): Unpack the zip, run flash-all.sh (it should already have proper permissions)

Links are in the first post.
at the end, I got it working. Even wifi, although that was on ly a few times, since then I cant login anymore. I am about to sell the watch, as its realy bad in GPS for running (as it was bought as running watch), so I will just sell it as smart watch. But then I do need some apps installed on it. But when you install one app, its full, now trying to get it to install on the SD memory, but again.. not so easy!
