Lock screen email notification. - Galaxy S II General

I receive text notifications fine where you slide to read. same for missed calls. But i never get emails on the lockscreen . I am using the gmail app. Is this why? And is there a workaround? Also i find the keyboard dreadful but don't like swype. Is there an alternative?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

I assume widgetlocker or some similar app would allow you to have new gmail show up on your lockscreen, though I don't use any of those. With any jkay-themed ROM you can at least have a slide-to-open-gmail item on your lockscreen--though it doesn't sound like you use a custom ROM at all.
As for keyboard, there are literally dozens of options. I use SwiftKeyX primarily, though it's like $4 iirc. TouchPal is probably the best free keyboard I've used, and it's developed right here at xda.

changing the bottom dock

ok, i have an evo now, LOVVEE IT, but also looking at picking up an epic and giving evo to gf. but the one biggest thing thats killing me on the epic is not being able to customize the bottom dock, i dont use messaging, i use google voice and would need that at the bottom.
is their any way to change those icons? (WITHOUT USING ANOTHER LAUNCHER, I like the touchwiz UI, and dont wanna use adw or launcherpro etc...)
I heard this feature was removed from the current UI. Apparently there were some problems with touchwiz 3.0, and they removed a few features to get rid of a few of the bugs..
Touchwiz on the epic is essentially stripped down compared to the Vibrant and captivate... although this may change with the 2.2 update..
so it doesnt have ANY way? not even with root? ah. that kills it for me, i dont even touch the messaging app, idk the last time i did...
I'm just curious why not use the messaging app las time i tried google voice it was too slow.
well i have multiple phones and GV is PERFECT for it, and yeah GV used to be HORRIBLE, but now they have push sms, so its pretty instant, and i cant text from my pc etc... the ONLY downside to gv is no mms yet. idk i just REALLY dont want a app on a dock that im never gonna touch..
I love my evo very good, no problems, honestly the draw to the epic for me is the touchwiz fetures, not so much the UI itsself, but the unique features. the speed and the screen.
just not sure if its worth going from an evo to epic
Touchwiz 3.0 does not support landscape thats why they used 2.5. You may be able to change this later on if a developer can port touchwiz 3.0 but then you would not have landscape support in touchwiz.
This is the 4th thread about this exact issue
Solution here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770529
Just download Handcent. When you hit the messaging icon at the bottom it will ask you if you want to use the stock app or Handcent (then you can check - remember this choice). Now whenever you hit the SMS icon (it will still appear to be the same...). It will open Handcent.
Click to collapse
This might work for the other buttons as well, if you clear the defaults in said applications. That is done under the Settings > Applications, find the app and hit the "Clear Defaults" button.
How does using Handcent fix anything for those of us that want the bottom dock button to launch Google Voice?
Did you read the question?
Use launcher pro, u can add and remove icons/programs from the dock

Messaging App Mods?

I'm looking for a messaging app that will get rid of the contact picture next to each text message and only show it at the top, and also allow for changing of the background and LED notification colors. Is anything like this available from any ROMs that I would be able to use/extract it from?
Pretty much your only choices are..
Handcent
ChompSMS
or Stock.
Those are the most popular. Handcent is very easily customized.
i hate how the handcent popup looks so dated. otherwise it is way more customizable than chomp.
I'd really prefer to use the stock app, I just really hate that the contact pictures show up next to each and every text. Hopefully someone comes up with a way to disable this, as I'm not smart enough to figure it out...
I agree with Kilgil27... I used to use Handcent, but eventually went back to the stock app because I would double and triple text my buddies for no reason. I went back to the stock and found it to be so much faster. When I went to uninstall Handcent I found out why... 6MB for a freaking texting app? Damn, son!

Looking for a new SMS/MMS popup app

I've tried different SMS/MMS popup apps. Many are very similar and sort of recently found one that almost satisfies me, popup 7, though it has it limits like MMS notifications not working. Is there an app that when you get a message it notifies you like normal in the status bar and when you click on the notification, via the dropdown, instead of going to the messaging app a popup will show for quick reply and such things. If there isn't one, this would be an awesome app to develop IMO.

Use handcent. It has the popup set as default. It pops up and gives you a notification in the status bar.

+1 on GO SMS Pro, it works great and is highly customizable. Has popups notifications in bar, notification privacy, individual notifications, can customize every single thing about the app. Even make DIY themes right from the apps built in thememaker(separate free add-on) etc etc etc etc. It's the best 3rd party sms app I've used IMO

I use sms popup. it still goes off your stock messaging app just adds a popup.
Well none of those let you automatically bring out a pop-up for quick reply after you click on the notification. Those popups overlay anything your doing automatically. I was looking for something that notifies you of a message and when you click on it from the notification bar a quick reply pop-up comes out. So essentially you chose when the pop-up comes out. I don't think there is one. Would be a great app to make though I don't know how to.

You can configure SMS popup for quick reply from the popup window That's what I use and I love it so much it's included in my rom.
all you need is a lovely signature.

Handcent SMS not sending MMS

Just got the Note 3 thru T-Mobile..had it for about 9 days. Cant send/recieve pics, even to myself.
Switched to the stock SMS/MMS app and it works fine. Anyone else experienced this? I kinda like Handcent because I can have a LED light notify me of a unread SMS/MMS..stock app only gives me a sound.
Handcent sms just updated and fixed the issue.

I'll check it out.
As much as I hate Handcent 5, I tried it, but no go for me. Again searching for a new messaging app. Stock would be fine if it wasn't bubbled.
Themagicm, did you have any luck?
Yes. Seems to be working for me. I'll test some more and if it craps out I'll reply back.
False alarm. Sending works....some recieving works. Uninstalling. The only reason I use it is because I can change the LED color to notify me of unread TMs.
I just now uninstalled Handcent as well. I went over to goSMS. Far from ideal, but at least I can again send receive MMS, as well as receive MMS over wifi.
The original messaging app works for me though...I just want the LED to flash a color of my choosing. Lol

I was looking at that one, but didn't want to shell out money just to try it as I couldn't find a demo. I know I can return it after a few minutes, but would prefer to test it over a few days. Is it that much better/different than others?

Just tried sliding messaging...swiping left and right to loop through conversations? Seriously? There may be ways to change that in the settings but I'm not going to lose my refund window you find it.
I just wish there was a demo, even if it was crippleware, too go through the options. Looked like there was potential, I'll see if I can learn more about it abd may reconsider

I paid for it and used it for a day. Buggy, UI layout can't be changed only colors, stuck in conversation style, when using dark theme you can't see new message notifications on your conversation list since there's no way to change the black highlight color.
I'm sure it fills a niche and I see it has it's fans, but the sliding seems gimmicky and underwhelming. even with the maximum customization that I could do, the best I could do is get it close to 8sms, which is more reliable and less bloated.
They definitely need a free version, or at the very least, a trial period. There's too much in the app to get a feel for it in 15 minutes, and you'd spend most of that time attempting to MANUALLY configure it to send and receive MMS.
I say all this not to bust on the app, as it may be just right for some, but just to throw it out there that if you're used to a handcent-level of customization, this isn't for you.

I dont know what you did but you can change the UI layout. There are 4 different styles. It isn't buggy for me. maybe bad install for you. I do admit that sliding between messages wasn't for me so i disabled it in settings. In theme seting in sliding menu mode choose fullscreen sliding menu or choose no sliding menu.to change display layout it is under theme settings too. Mine highlight color for new messages show up in red highlight and I chose Dark blue theme. Yea like you say it might not be for some.

Right. The layout, meaning where things are located, is the same though. Just the styling of the layout can be changed. For example, I want my contact picture on the left, so that it's in a vertical list and not alternating.

Turn off Default SMS & Call Widget on Lock Screen

I do like the stock 4.3. Its much smoother compared to 4.2.1.
But what I don't like is the default SMS widget that shows up on the locks screen when we receive an SMS.
Same goes for Miss Calls.
The sms is displayed on the screen itself, so basically anybody could read the sms as it arrives (I dont like putting lock).
I know, there is a setting to disable sms display but that will turn off the displaying of the message on notification bar aswell.
So is there any way to turn off that widget ? I couldn't find any yet.
Infact, this whole lock screen widget thing is not so cool because, as per my experience, if I put widgets, the phone takes up a while (1-2 secs) to wake up.

sorry I dont know which app/process it is because I don't own a Samsung device!
you must try to find it yourselves by just freezing apps/process related to lockscreen one after the other!

Had the same question as thread opener. I'd prefer to use dashclock to handle this kind of things, non that Samsung stuff. And, at the same time, I'd like to keep text content readable on notification bar. Is this lock screen notification disposable somehow? I see nothing that could be related to it in settings
Note 2 N7100 - DN3 ROM @240 dpi - MK4
I took the other way to solve this one..
I have actually installed Textra sms client and I have kept the stock Messaging app aswell.
So, now on, the new sms is captured by Textra and displayed on status bar like before. And if I want, I can use stock sms to reply or read, but I prefer textra now. In case you prefer textra, u can actually turn off stock Messaging from App manager and permanently use Textra (or any other sms client) as a replacement.
Just install a 3rd party SMS app and disable notifications in stock app.
Donnt be bothered about RAM when using a powerhouse such as Note 2

I managed to obtain what I needed with rom toolbox pro using its auto run manager function. Make system apps visible, than look for a package named com.sec.android.app.keyguard and disable the first receiver, whose lengthy name ends with "missed widget provider". No more notifications on lock screen taking the place of my widgets (namely dashclock)!
Hope this helps, fell free to ask for clarifications if needed. No side effects noted until now, but I seldom receive text messages since WhatsApp has been invented, so it hasn't been tested much. Cheers!

I need them badly and don't want to download the whole firmware for just 2 files.
