Samsung have re-assured anyone buying the Note that they will soon get it updated from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich. What benefits will that bring to the note?

Where did you get that information?
Curious too. What does "soon" mean?
Android Authority posted it here. Not sure if Android Authority really have "authoritative" sources as I don't see any official announcement from Samsung.
I guess "soon" is a little too optimistic. I guess we have to wait a few months until we'll see the ICS on the Note. The only thing that we know for sure is that both the Note and the SGS2 will receive ICS, as Samsung declared... officially.
I have read a news that Samsung have confirmed this via their official twitter page from Italy...
Kiss my Tab!
Also, newspapers in Norway are quoting official Samsung resources saying this...
BTJ
I remember reading the update will be 2nd quarter next year...

It should be obvious that the Galaxy Note will get ISC update. This is only logical and you do not need any official confirmation to know it would get the update/upgrade. I think the question is when? I'm surprised that alot of us bother ourselves about this obvious fact.
thats a bad news, while in six months i will have a other phone.. hope to get a update in the next two max. three months.

You speak about obvious facts, but I haven't seen an official Samsung "fact" anywhere.
I just see rumors everywhere, repeated by various blogs that read each-other. (and need some traffic)
There has been (as it seems, but also not confirmed, just a rumor) a statement from Samsung Italy on an (not official) Italian blog, and this blog has revised its message since then.
Sure, I would like to have ICS on my Note, but I don't get my hopes up.
And I don't understand why everyone speaks about "facts" while there is no fact to be found.
It a fact when there is an Official Statement from Samsung on a Samsung operated website.
And I also want that to appear. But it hasn't.
(and my personal guess is that ICS will NOT come on this Note, but on the next, but I hope I am wrong)

Are they quoting a statement that can be read on an official Samsung website or press release? Or are they just repeating the rumors that appeared on some blogs??
Maybe you find me annoying that I question this ICS on our beloved Note, but I really want an Official statement...
During the official presentation of Galaxy Note for the Italian market Samsung (Italia) has confirmed in an interview with Telefonino.net that the Note will have ICS in 2012 for sure.
However they didn't say when (could be in January as well as in December...).

The most important benefit will be the ability to run tablet apps ie apps optimized for tablet resolutions. Ics has some other nice things too - Data monitoring, hardware acceleration, offline google mail searching, and etc etc

ICS has native pen support.
ICS uses 1280x800 as desired resolution..
what makes you think the Note won't get it ?
hopefully when ICS is released and we see some Note kernel source
(I don't have my note yet, so haven't started looking)
we can start to port it across, lets see if we can beat samsung
i hope so, it would be a great thing to see it as soon as possible..

That link suggests that 3.2 will add in support for Qualcomm processors, but the 7 inch Tab has the ARM Cortex A8 processor I believe. So are people reading this story, putting 2 + 2 together and getting 5? Or am I missing something and we will in fact be getting 3.2?

Indeed. k0sh regularly misreads what people say or takes them out of context.
Android 3.2 is not been released for Galaxy Tab, What spacemoose is talking about is that once it drops for official devices he will be able to use that and port to our Tab if all goes well.

Dude, it is NOT coming to our Tab, Its coming to new official 7" Tablets and space will use those as a base for port rather then the SDK build.
You are very much mistaken.
"The last straw was when I discovered that 3.2 is going to drop on a new 7 inch tab in a month or two (and will be pushed to the Motorola Xoom in a matter of days according to various accounts on tech blogs.) With that news, I've dropped development altogether.
3.2 is designed to be compatible with 7 inch screens and single-core processors... So continuing this port would be like trying to cram your foot into the wrong size shoe when the right size shoe is sitting just across the room... what's the point?"
explain the bold words could you the atheist , maybe i'm wrong

It means that the OS has been modified for 7" screens and single core CPU, This doesnt mean it is been officially released for our specific tablet, That will be down to Samsung and licenses with google etc.
This news is for NEW 7" tablets that are been released officially for honeycomb.
When or IF it will be released for our Tab it will be announced via Samsung.

k0sh I'm sure you meant well, and much respect for reading and writing in a language that is not your native tongue... but yes, you have misunderstood. It appears that 3.2 is going to be released for devices similar to the Tab, but it's not yet been confirmed that specifically means the Tab.
I'm assuming that spacemoose means that the version he was originally working on was difficult because it was never meant to be on a 7" device. Although he'd got close, the news that a new version is coming that supports devices LIKE ours means that he's anticipating it's going to be relatively easy to port 3.2 onto the Tab.
If Samsung came out tomorrow and said that 3.2 would be natively ported for our Tabs then I think we'd all cheer, but in the meantime it looks like we may be waiting to see what spacemoose and other devs can come up with.

Yes, ICS has support for Pressure Sensitive screens.
I don't understand why everyone thinks the Note will get ICS.
Its just some blog that says so...
They even have edited their post now:
Update : is not official confirmation from Samsung Korea (the only one who can give the full official) but is "a hypothesis" for the next updates. Only Samsung Korea will confirm the roadmap of aggironamenti.
I say, the Note does not get an Official ICS...
Its far more logical that the Note II will get ICS.

Wishful thinking maybe?
Because otherwise it's bad PR. Android devices which are at least six months old have always been updated.
Think about what Samsung needs to do if they put ICS on this Note.
They spend a lot of money on marketing the Note, and its just about to get released...
If they would put ICS on this Note, they either have to revise all the marketing material, or recreate the exact same software on ICS, including launcher etc.
Even the Italian blog mentions second quarter 2012 as a date for a possible Note update to ICS.
By that time the market is also ready for a Note II with ICS 4.5

If they don't update to ICS, Samsung will have a lot of negative media about not supporting there brand new flagship devices. Which will result in a lot more of a loss than the gain. Plus they have to update TW to ICS anyway, they might as well put a bit of more effort and make it work for Note. And ICS can act as an incentive for newer purchases, people always like forward to buy newest Android OS. Galaxy S2 came out and still they are providing updates for Galaxy, why do you think that happens?

As I said in another thread, it would be a PR disaster for Samsung to come out with a phone at the same time they issue ICS and not provide an upgrade path.. You clearly dont know what the hell you are talking about here!
Google wants that all manufactures update to ICS because of fragmentation. Google will update once a year like Apple!
The Note II maybe not coming at all if this thing does not sell. So they will update this Note to ICS. Every new phone you buy from Sammy will get 18 months of Support So that means ICS will come to the Note!
Mark my words ! Of Course they will not confirm this this quick because of the galaxy Nexus. It will interfear the sales of that phone!

I am not holding my breath for Samsung updates.... I'll just try to think of something else and try to enjoy what I have (JB 4.1.1)
The last time I trusted Samsung, they delayed the promised release of JB in over 2 months (it was initially meant for early august but was released in late october).
Anyhow, even 'though I am one of the pathetic flash junkies (I resent that, btw), I am trying to get over it, because it causes too much anxiety, which makes me drink too much coffee (or the other way around, IDK), which causes me to not sleep well at night, which causes me to be late for work... damn you, Samsung!

Once you have the base 4.2 samsung rom you can simply use most of the features by copying/installing those features. it think multi user is only for tablets. But frankly 4.2 has no mind blowing are a must have feature like 4.1.
4.2 camera is already ported, the only exception the sphere is not working for anyone, hopefully will get fixed soon.

Check this video from Samsung:
It's the official announcement of JB and all the new features. They called the enhancements they made to the OG Note "Premium Suite" also. Everything shown is in the German ROM some of us have been using. The fact this was posted to YouTube today means the official roll-out is close.
They've also created a micro-site for it...

What's in that video is new and was posted on YouTube today. This is the first mention of "Premium Suite" and for any detail provided publicly of what's actually in the Note's JB update.
Yes I have already highlighted that in my first post.
The second mention was a reply to your post that they have create a new microsite.
What they are essentially doing is rebranding Note and re launching it in a sorts with the New JB update to push it sales even more. The positive about the same is that is we may get upgraded to 4.2 in future

Also if you go on Sammobile you will find there are whole host of tablets which have received new updates so samsung is on a kind of upgrade spree

Now there's even more for us to moan about having to wait for..
Omg...this is so cool...
I am so desperate for this update now...
My wife thinks, i am infatuated to this tablet... she's so wrong.. this is actually pure LOVE!

The shipping ROM didn't support exFAT so all the original marketing materials said 32GB. Updates changed that and 64GB is now supported. It's supported in the German ROM some of us have been using.
The video is uploaded on an old existing website and hence the confusion on specs but its shamefull how a big company like Samsung does not pay attention to small things like this
I'm starting to think this was a pre - black friday announcement to get the masses hyped. Now, if it pushes out in the next 3 days, I could be wrong'

I think you guys give Samsung far too much credit for premeditation. Between all the different regions and different groups involved in a single product their lucky to get stuff out the door at all. And 2/3 of their revenue is outside the U.S. where Black Friday is meaningless. I do think that the release of JB marketing and support materials means we're getting close though. Keep in mind with all the N8020 ROMs that were just leaked I'd imagine that product is going to be released shortly only on JB and those marketing materials are necessary to support it.

This "news" has been out fr two weeks already, with exactly the samererference...

Let's hope it's not a mistake of Samsung Thailad
This would be nice, as 4.0 is starting to feel kind of dated after using 4.2 on the Nexus 10. I still love my 7.7 and think it's still the best 7" yet (price notwithstanding), but an OS update that isn't buggy as hell (apologies to devs working on the 7.7) would be a new lease on life.
..
Other people quoting back to the same potentially wrong source is not a confirmation......it's just noise.

What i remember the last 4.1 jb is 4.1.2 b4 they move to 4.2
via Galaxy Tab 7.7
As noted in the related thread, I'll believe it when I see it on my tab
As noted in the related thread about updates to the 7.7, I'll still believe it when I see it running on my i815. Until then it's just rumor and a possible source of frustration (for me) because I have seen and used JB (on a Nexus 7 that I formerly owned) and enjoyed the goodness that was rolled up in same.
I really want to hope this news is true and that we'll all get it eventually, but eventually may be a long time off in the future and if so, well, I'm not sure I have the patience.
Not so certain. And here's why:

Much as I am hoping for the best, I am not so sure this is the news we are all waiting for.
I am an expatriate living in Thailand. My partner is Thai and he's reasonably technical. He owns a Galaxy S3 and an 8.9" tablet. I showed him that status table from the web page that you are speculating about. I did not show him the Google translation that you are pinning your hopes on. But I asked him what the status for the 7.7 means.
He said that the wording was poorly chosen and could be interpreted many ways. In other words, a fluent Thai reader could not look at that status message and walk away with certainty about Samsung's plans. It could mean anything from "confirmed" to "to be confirmed." (The latter possibly meaning that Samsung HQ has not yet determined a decision.)
We can tell you that Thailand users did receive an OTA update for the Galaxy S3 in the past couple of weeks. So the date for that product, stated in the Thai Buddhist calendar system, is correct.
Great news !!

Wow it is great news !
The thing is, even if the rumor turns out to be true, Samsung really dropped the ball on updating this device, for legal reasons or otherwise - doesn't matter.
It would have to be the latest and greatest version of jellybean for me to even consider upgrading.
Where Samsung failed, the development community stepped up and have offered superior alternatives to what Samsung is bringing to the table.
Or hasn't to be more precise.
This is a terrific tablet and Samsung has failed epically to capitalize on its potential as a higher quality device in a sea of average tablets. And they feed this mediocrity by saturating the market with 50 versions of the same plastic garbage they are so well known for producing.

Of course Jelly bean is even better :good:
So in what you use your tablet for on a daily bases JB is better then ICS ?
I use ICS on my 7.7 and JB on my Note. Frankly for daily and normal use it's the same ****..
Problem is I have developed a odin phobie, the previous time I attempt to flash to hc, the mainboard is dead. By the time JB is out, the warranty will be over.

the legal reasons are gone. and this the best tab in specs so far for its pretty display and built quality.
even with dual core the tab performs well enough in the high end game, no reason for not support with JB

This is probably because you don't need o have decent battery life
The JB custom ROM just don't provide as much battery as Samsung's ROMs

JB is a bit more customizable and smoother on the SGS3, should be the same on the tab
