This "news" has been out fr two weeks already, with exactly the samererference...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1902873&page=17
Let's hope it's not a mistake of Samsung Thailad
This would be nice, as 4.0 is starting to feel kind of dated after using 4.2 on the Nexus 10. I still love my 7.7 and think it's still the best 7" yet (price notwithstanding), but an OS update that isn't buggy as hell (apologies to devs working on the 7.7) would be a new lease on life.
..
Other people quoting back to the same potentially wrong source is not a confirmation......it's just noise.

What i remember the last 4.1 jb is 4.1.2 b4 they move to 4.2
via Galaxy Tab 7.7
As noted in the related thread, I'll believe it when I see it on my tab
As noted in the related thread about updates to the 7.7, I'll still believe it when I see it running on my i815. Until then it's just rumor and a possible source of frustration (for me) because I have seen and used JB (on a Nexus 7 that I formerly owned) and enjoyed the goodness that was rolled up in same.
I really want to hope this news is true and that we'll all get it eventually, but eventually may be a long time off in the future and if so, well, I'm not sure I have the patience.
Not so certain. And here's why:

Much as I am hoping for the best, I am not so sure this is the news we are all waiting for.
I am an expatriate living in Thailand. My partner is Thai and he's reasonably technical. He owns a Galaxy S3 and an 8.9" tablet. I showed him that status table from the web page that you are speculating about. I did not show him the Google translation that you are pinning your hopes on. But I asked him what the status for the 7.7 means.
He said that the wording was poorly chosen and could be interpreted many ways. In other words, a fluent Thai reader could not look at that status message and walk away with certainty about Samsung's plans. It could mean anything from "confirmed" to "to be confirmed." (The latter possibly meaning that Samsung HQ has not yet determined a decision.)
We can tell you that Thailand users did receive an OTA update for the Galaxy S3 in the past couple of weeks. So the date for that product, stated in the Thai Buddhist calendar system, is correct.
Great news !!

Wow it is great news !
The thing is, even if the rumor turns out to be true, Samsung really dropped the ball on updating this device, for legal reasons or otherwise - doesn't matter.
It would have to be the latest and greatest version of jellybean for me to even consider upgrading.
Where Samsung failed, the development community stepped up and have offered superior alternatives to what Samsung is bringing to the table.
Or hasn't to be more precise.
This is a terrific tablet and Samsung has failed epically to capitalize on its potential as a higher quality device in a sea of average tablets. And they feed this mediocrity by saturating the market with 50 versions of the same plastic garbage they are so well known for producing.

Of course Jelly bean is even better :good:
So in what you use your tablet for on a daily bases JB is better then ICS ?
I use ICS on my 7.7 and JB on my Note. Frankly for daily and normal use it's the same ****..
Problem is I have developed a odin phobie, the previous time I attempt to flash to hc, the mainboard is dead. By the time JB is out, the warranty will be over.

the legal reasons are gone. and this the best tab in specs so far for its pretty display and built quality.
even with dual core the tab performs well enough in the high end game, no reason for not support with JB

The JB custom ROM just don't provide as much battery as Samsung's ROMs

I don't think there was any doubt of this, but it's nice to have a rough guess of when we'll get it.
There will be custom roms in the meantime but I suspect we'll lose a lot of stylus support.

Yes, ICS has support for Pressure Sensitive screens.
I don't understand why everyone thinks the Note will get ICS.
Its just some blog that says so...
They even have edited their post now:
Update : is not official confirmation from Samsung Korea (the only one who can give the full official) but is "a hypothesis" for the next updates. Only Samsung Korea will confirm the roadmap of aggironamenti.
I say, the Note does not get an Official ICS...
Its far more logical that the Note II will get ICS.
NO confirmation, nowhere. Stop fooling yourself.

Why are you so negative about ICS? Secondly, note is a brand new device. Almost all devices from past 6 months must get an upgrade to ICS.

Wait for an official Samsung announcement, than talk about "its confirmed".
And why "Almost all devices from past 6 months must get an upgrade to ICS" ??
Wishful thinking maybe?
Because otherwise it's bad PR. Android devices which are at least six months old have always been updated.
Think about what Samsung needs to do if they put ICS on this Note.
They spend a lot of money on marketing the Note, and its just about to get released...
If they would put ICS on this Note, they either have to revise all the marketing material, or recreate the exact same software on ICS, including launcher etc.
Even the Italian blog mentions second quarter 2012 as a date for a possible Note update to ICS.
By that time the market is also ready for a Note II with ICS 4.5

If they don't update to ICS, Samsung will have a lot of negative media about not supporting there brand new flagship devices. Which will result in a lot more of a loss than the gain. Plus they have to update TW to ICS anyway, they might as well put a bit of more effort and make it work for Note. And ICS can act as an incentive for newer purchases, people always like forward to buy newest Android OS. Galaxy S2 came out and still they are providing updates for Galaxy, why do you think that happens?

But there is no official announcement or confirmation from Samsung that they will update the Note to ICS. Its just a blog, and they already had an "update" in their post, they are not so sure anymore.

As I said in another thread, it would be a PR disaster for Samsung to come out with a phone at the same time they issue ICS and not provide an upgrade path.. At thIs point I think you're speculating yourself, and you need to sit and wait like the rest of us and see what happens. My bet is you are very wrong.

(And the rest is speculating)
Google requires all manufacturers to deliver updates for at least 6 months for all new devices.
So ICS should come to the Note.

i am pretty sure given the way samsung has been working these days.

actually, Google said 18 months. I am quite certain that ICS will land on any Galaxy S2 and after device. PR disaster. I mean look at the other KOrean maker, LG, they are not exactly doing great.

You clearly dont know what the hell you are talking about here!
Google wants that all manufactures update to ICS because of fragmentation. Google will update once a year like Apple!
The Note II maybe not coming at all if this thing does not sell. So they will update this Note to ICS. Every new phone you buy from Sammy will get 18 months of Support So that means ICS will come to the Note!
Mark my words ! Of Course they will not confirm this this quick because of the galaxy Nexus. It will interfear the sales of that phone!
Mod Edit - this is now where all JB discussions will be directed.

Old News
Before ranting about how Samsung sucks blah blah and messing up this thread, please read this --->post<--- first.
I will start a discussion about JellyBean (Android 4.1) so that our forum will not be cluttered with JB stuff.
Although i was late in viewing the live stream of google i/o i found this info over at phonearena. Jellybean will remove lag on devices that will run it? If so it would be cool to have it on our device (even though i only experience micro stutter lag). Hope it removes those little lag i experience sometimes.
Source: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Android-4.1-Jelly-Bean-is-announced-waves-goodbye-to-lag_id31659
Do you think our device will get updated to JellyBean? My personal opinion is yes because it is just a point release not a major overhaul of the OS. Maybe it will be less hassle to developers on porting it from ICS to JB than from GB to ICS (since this one is a major update). What do you guys think? Will it finally remove the micro lags we are experiencing or will it just be another android update without much improvement?

4.1
"The first side of the Jelly Bean update is the way it interacts with hardware. One of the main complaints with Androids is that it often gets laggy even on the most sophisticated devices. Google has finally radically addressed this so manufacturers and developers can make their devices lag-free. The solution is called Project Butter and it comes with triple buffering so that the CPU and GPU work without waiting for each other. This means scrolling, zooming and virtually all actions become much faster."
It took them 4 MAJOR versons to fix this! Shame on you Google!
Are you guys really gona move to an OS without Flash support?
I know i am not!
4.1 Jelly Bean
4.1 is Jelly Bean.
Super excited for the release of the new ASUS Nexus 7 tablet, which will run with 4.1 Jelly Bean.
I expect great performance from this latest update. I expect that if they are marketing it to be lag free, than it should be.

I purposely don't have flash installed on my home PC. If a video is in Flash then they wont get my views then simple. HTML5 or GTFO!
I don't expect Samsung will release it for SGS II.
I doubt JB will be worth at all... ICS except few changes like icons ect. is worse than GB...

Flash is becoming obsolete. Adobe has accepted html5 is going to replace it and is ceasing support for it soon (though its pushing devs to Adobe AIR platform).
And the video play back is very good. Try you tube opt in and look for a no-ads video to test it, better than flash imo.

Where can I find the video presentation ?
Why do you all think we won't get this for our phones? I'll be really disappointed if we don't get it. Samsung has had access to Jelly Bean for some time now (according to Google), and since it's a rather small update and well within 18 Months of our Galaxy S2's update span, we should really get it.
I just have one question: will Samsung upgrade our devices? 4.1 sounds cool, seems smoother, otherwise Google woudn't release this.

Source Link:

I know this is not Android development post, but I just want to make sure our beloved developers know the news, and they are the only ones left now that can bring fully functional JB ROMs to our tablet. I really hope they can start spending more time on JB ROM development.
Your justification/reason for posting this in the development section is definitely not sufficient.
I am disappointed by Samsung not upgrading GT 10.1 for three reasons
1. GT 10.1 was released *after* GS2, and GS2 gets JB.
2. GT 2 10.1 is so similar to GT 10.1, that if Samsung just pays a little more effort, they can upgrade GT 10.1, too.
3. GT 10.1 was a flagship device, just last year.
Probably it is because GT 10.1 did not sell well as Samsung expected, due to iPad or all that Apple legal stuff. Well, but I can still enjoy GT 10.1 as it is (4.0). And I hope Samsung would release a bigger and faster one (like 12 inch or something). Then I would sell GT 10.1 cheaply and move on to that device.
Well it is ok, i hate touchwiz as a lot of people and we have good developers that will bring CM10 full functionally, but it is mean that probably we will have problems with drivers for futures updates.
start a facebook and twitter protest along with a youtube video
I bet they will pay attention. At the least force them to release the code so others can develop it.
The points made above are very valid.
I though part of the Google agreement was devices had to be upgradeable for up to 18 months for something like that.
You think a company like Samsung would have learned from Microsoft to make their devices and software work for all of their hardware just like installing MS Windows across different brands.

That is what Google stated at I/O 2011. So this makes me wonder... 18 months from when the GTab 10.1 I/O released (March 2011) or when it released in the US (June 2011), international (July 2011;not sure cause I didn't pay attention to that release). We are within that window when they said that JB will release in Q4 for the listed devices. We are DEFINITELY in that window from when JB was announced.
That will teach us, samsung is fast abandoning devices as well as releasing them. Note to self, next time stick to everything nexus.

I moved to Google Nexus. Will never purchase any Samsung products in future.

Well it is ok, i hate touchwiz as a lot of people and we have good developers that will bring CM10 full functionally, but it is mean that probably we will have problems with drivers for futures updates.

I agree about touchwiz, but you have to think like this: they need to release JB, so that our developer can get all the required drivers for camera and other stuff. This makes development much faster. If you check current Alpha/Experimental CM10 JB ROMs, front cam not working.
I felt really bad when I read the news, because I still really like my Galaxy Tab 10.1 even if it is 1 year old.

Im on a cm10 and my front cam is working. It'll be there in versions with the 3.1 kernel, the ones out there right now are with the older kernel (afaik).

Yes but i think 3.1 kernel its only for P7500 i have the P7510 wifi version, someplace i look for an experimental kernel 3.1 but microphone doesnt work.
Samsung are truly morons with this crap. The Tab was my last chance with them and they just blew it.. This was their 3rd strike. My 2 year old Nexus S 4G with 512mb of RAM gets an official JB upgrade from Google (and runs great) yet the tab with a dual core and 1gb of RAM Samsung decide to skip over. Google is all about getting the most out of a product and Samsung (who ironically makes the Nexus S) is all about getting the most out of your wallet.
I had a hunch this was going to happen, but I'm still annoyed. Not so much because I can't just root, etc..... but the fact that they've given the finger to those that bought it while they support older products still. Samsung was even present when Google announced the "Android Update Alliance". Um........... atleast give us working drivers, etc.

The 3.1 kernel Samsung released is for both P7500 and P7510. If you're running official ICS now, you're using 3.1 kernel.
Figured as much.
But, my Tab with ICS and Nova launcher absolutely rocks, so to be honest, I'm not really that disappointed.
Still a geat device.
I am runnng cm10 on my tab and it works great. I dont neec Samsung offical laggy rom. I have cm10, its faster and better!

it is official news from Samsung. I just need to find the official press release link and post here. They did not say no JB for Galaxy Tab 10.1, but they did NOT included it on their JB road-map for this year and next year, so this should tell you something, unless Samsung decides to include it at last minute.
The only comments seen publically are from sites other than samsun. Sammobile is not an official site and their source was not samsung either. Suggest you all calm down. Besides, it would be like expecting win7to run on a win 95 computer expecting updates for ever more

But AOSP based jb has already been ported to 10.1 which makes it a vaible candidate since the hardware is good thus ur comparison is like comparing apple to oranges since win would never even bootup in win95 PC let alone run!
PS: I am dissapointed with Samsung bcuz most ppl with 10.1 r early adopters yet Samsung including myself yet Samsung decided to show the finger to us!

EDIT 11th May 2013
May be, just maybe Samsung listenened and JB 4.2.1 is here
It took a year for this to happen, which is not good enough for a premium tablet.
Sadly, I don't have this tablet (or any tablet al all), but I maintain no more Samsung for me at least for now.
I hope those who do, enjoy the enhancred performance that Project Butter brings.
INITIAL POST BELOW:
According to a list released by Samsung, the 7.7 is NOT getting a JB update.
If that's true, this is the last Samsung Android device I will have bought.
Disappointed
Yea dissapointed too, big question is why?! Are they preparing android 5.0 for this tab??

If no JB so far why would we expect Key Lime Pie on or tab at all
Sent from my GT-P6800 using xda premium
Now that would be very disappointing! Why the 7 plus getting JB and not the 7.7? If samsung is reading this, you gonna need to re-think why the 7.7 is excluded from JB!

Ahhrg!
The only thing that a HATE mad in Android is the fact that is the manufactorers who choose if you gonna get the last version of Android or not.
I have a LG Optimus Black and the Galaxy Tab 7.7
I´m on 2.3.4 Gingerbread in OB (no prevision to take ICS)
And now I receive this notice that my Tab will not get Jelly Bean!!
you can imagine how frustrated I am!!!!!!!!!
Disappointed too. Do you think it its related to the European ban?

We can post all our dissapoiment in SAMSUNG facebook wall writing
DON'T FORGET US, WE WANT JELLY BEAM FOR GALAXY 7.7 OR I'LL CHANGE MY TAB FOR AN IPAD

As someone who's on the Verizon 7.7 and still on HC, I'm more than disappointed.
I have a feeling that Samsung looks at sales numbers and sees how many 7.7's there are on the market (not many), and then does a cost-benefit analysis that shows that the cost of having developers put time into 7.7 JB development is a waste of money. And it's really their fault that this thing isn't more ubiquitious since it's a great piece of technology, but for whatever reason, they didn't price it aggressively enough and this is where they ended up.
Hopefully we'll have some decent JB ROMs, but at this point, I'm still waiting for ICS.
All we can do it put our disappointment into action - make your next tablet a Nexus, 3G/4G be damned.
I'm on Verizon, too. There should always be a provision to install a stock Android version so if the Touch-wiz modidifcations stop coming at least one could try to update to next Android.
I am perfectly happy with ICS on my Tab. I only count on one upgrade per device. That is alll I have ever gotten on my Samsung and Motorola devices.
We should make our voice heard, because there is no reason for our tab to miss this update.

I dont know if its good or bad not to have JB, anyway it lags, ICS on galaxy s2, s3 works really smoothly but not on this tab... So if we could get JB and it will lag, whats the point?

the last ics update is crap full of weird bugs, wifi for exemple, anyone can use his tab without wifi? stupid question and Samsung don't have the answer!
if jelly bean will bring such bugs (of ics) better keep my lagy, microscopic text,... Honeycomb till the last day of this tablet ^_^

I use my tab 7.7 with and without WiFi every day without problem ranging EDGE to H+ in reception, not sure about how the modem/baseband fairs in other countries but here in sweden with both Telia Sonera and Comviq/Tele2 it works well.
No lag for me (except with certain thrid party widgets sometimes), been testing a couple of JellyBean ROMS on it and tbh it doesnt make my 7.7 fly or print money or anything like that so i dont really see why, appart from the looks, anyone NEEDS JB except the fact that it looks cooler and that everyone think they need the latest and the greatest for their device... just to let 2 days pass after the update and start screaming about samung sucking "cuz i aint gettin mah kay lame phie"... teah the tab cost quite a few bucks, but it works pretty well as it is.. and if one doesnt like it.. sell it to someone that might like/love it and buy some other "better" brand and start to whine about that one not getting each and every update
That said, i am quite surprised Samsung didnt announce JB for the 7.7, and also the list didnt have more than 4-5 models some month ago, who says that 7.7 wont be added to the list next week/month.. but then again i dont think this model has sold enough for Samsung to spend the money on the update.. yet, plus they have a bunch of new models they want ppl to buy..
Also if you reeeeeally want JB, just root and throw in a custom rom, sitting on this forum its not hard to find a guide on how to do it.
This is really bad from Samsung Tablet premium class not to participate with the official Jelly Bean but others such as GT2 Plus and has a lower hardware and the display. It is a shame but not bad because there are alternatives, such as PA, CM10 or my Nexness PRO and all: 4.1.1
thanks god we've got some rich developers who own this piece of technology
Ps : just kidding, i am also a poor student, but i doesn't matter, cause i really like my big investment
best regards

Galaxy Tab 7.7
I personnaly don't want any custom roms. I want the official stock roms. So this annoys me a bit, as I'm sure jellybean on the 7.7 would get a bit more out of our 7.7's

No sir, the point isn't crying about new updates, the point is, did we paid for this to let it run stone age operating system? why in the hell a 5 years old iphone still receive updates and i don't? do you think apple charged their customers more than Samsung did?
to be honest, i was happier with my old (sold) gt p1000 running gingerbread, on this one am waiting for a Samsung human developer to do something about the text size! (because honestly i don't think they used humans to test this before pushing it to the market) not those of xda, they aren't paid for that, and no body should blame them because they are doing us a favor for sharing their work with us. Samsung developers are paid to satisfy my needs, why should I give them a rest?
No sir, if my device is able to run the latest operating system in the market, so i want it, and i want it now.
if they are willing to ignore our expensive devices, ill sell it and get something else (Microsoft maybe?) note that I may lose some bucks, but Samsung may lose the market
as for the wifi, if it wasn't so important, why would I pay 6 times for a simple Kindle ebook reader, at least this one does exactly what it supposed to do without updates
I need to read from the net, that why i need my wifi working on ICS, and then on jelly bean.
and then i want a phablet dpi, i don't care about tablet UI, and if others do, Samsung can add a dual UI, Tablet and Phablet (that what android is, choices)
best regards
