Xperia PLAY is better than Nexus S - Xperia Play General

Hi. If you read some reviews or Specs about our Play and Nexus S. There isnt much difference. You can see that Xperia PLAY is better than Nexus S. So Hardware is Supported for ICS
Dont compare the Play with Nexus One. Compare it with Nexus S xD

Very Similiar hardware.

Even a lot of much older phones will be able to run ICS. As long as the phone has a GPU, which most of them have.

mmmm...what? just because it has hardware acceleration doesn't mean all phones with gpu can run it.

It pretty much does, just like apple, google will wan't as many devices as possible on there latest OS. Anyway the ICS SDK emu has already been ported to some very low end devices like the samsung galaxy 5 that only has a 500mhz cpu.

Atrix Gyroscope / Accellerometer

So the Atrix doesn't have a gyroscope, and most likely has an accelerometer.
Would anyone mind commenting on how well motion control games and apps actually function with the Atrix?
How about a comparison to your old phone? It would be unfortunate to have something so powerful crippled by an overlooked feature.

I hear that gaming is nice.
Tested out Jet car stunts on the cappy and this phone and they are the same.
Works fine on snowboarding and racing games that I've tried.
The only android phone on the us market to even have a gyroscope is my nexus s why do people think the galaxy s have them #Smh and games are the best with a gyroscope the gs2 will be the next to get a gyroscope

Yea the old snapdragon CPU sucks wont handle alot but you don't need a gyroscope for the game.

Gyroscope has to bethe most overrated and useless feature on a smartphone today. Who buys cell phones to play games? Games suck on phones period. How's that GPS working for ya on that Nexus S lol.
True, but the N1 didn't support "true" multi-touch either, which I guess could be another reason it sucked. Can't wait to try it out on the Atrix...been mising FIFA10 since I've defected over from the iPhone.

Might be good news:
I found out through LogCat that the problem might lie within the PowerVR SGX540. Which is in fact the same GPU as the Galaxy Nexus, in which Rockstar states will fix soon. So yeah, it should work, just wait a bit for an update.

Same deal with the Droid Charge (which has the same CPU & GPU) even with Chainfire the display is still black. If it's really a GPU hardware issue we may be able to get it working after they update it.

Which GPU is better? I guess PowerVR is..
Adreno isn't the best at games.

I had to get it illegaly even if I own it on my Galaxy S II, I was unable to find it on the market from my SGT7.
I have test version 1.1 on My tab running ICS Alpha 3..and its work...^_^
Here the screenshot :
sweet!
Looks nice on ICS
Where do you get 1.1?
I got 1.0 via 4shared - I'm not unwilling, but hesitant rather, to spend $5 on an app that's currently known to be not working, and version unknown for the one on the market (if it appears for the Sprint 7 tab).
Very willing if it works, that's a cheap price for a big game. Anywhere to "try before I buy?" Usually that's an option with most games, sample or ad-supported version, etc.
thanks-
EDIT: Note I'm not running ICS, I'm not rooted, although that is in the cards at some not-far-future point. I just got this tab yesterday. Is your build a requirement? Looking to try this out on the stock Gingerbread - if it works, I'm glad to buy it for the cost of a Subway footlong.
It does work, many have confirmed it working. Just a bit laggy. So hopefully you can spare $5 to support development

Vodafone Australia promises Nexus S Jelly Bean .....read on.....

So this has me thinking..... Nexus S is similerly specs to the Xperia PLAY and it will be getting Jelly Bean...man... For those curios unless games work great on ICS and or JB I will stick with GB as it offers, currently, the most compatibility. Still though.. if the Nexus S can get it the nwhy not the PLAY. Clearly $ony has moved on and has forgotten about our awesome little gaming phone.... guess its JB or waiting until later today to see what the supposed new ZTE Gaming phone is all about.... peace ya'll

The ZTE smart phone doesn't even have a gamepad. Also only a tegra 2 processor. Bit dated. On the plus side, it is cheap though, only £189.99

Wasn't ever going to happen. Anyway, doesn't Sony have the patent for physical gamepad in a phone?
i heard that JB only needs 512 of ram. Does it mean that it will probably run better as ICS did?

Oh god, not this again.
The reason that the Xperia Play is not getting ICS is not because its hardware!!!!
READ THE FOLLOWING LINES PLEASE!
The reason because the Xperia Play won't get ICS goes like this:
1- Sony launches the Xperia Play.
2- Some months later, some developers like Rockstar Games and EA make some outsanding games compatible with the Xperia Play (GTAIII, Dead Space...) wich helps a lot on the sales of this smartphone.
3- Sony, wich plans to update the Xperia Play to ICS like the other Xperias from 2011, launches a beta of ICS for the Xperia Play in order to allow people to test how their apps and games run on the new version of Android.
4- The beta works great on the phone, but some games like GTA III and other important titles don't run well. These games need to be updated to work correctly on the ICS for the Xperia Play.
5- Rockstar, EA and others refuse to update their games for the Xperia Play.
6- Sony, with no option, doesn't want to lose the most important titles of the Xperia Play and decides to not update the device.
END.

you know what grinds my gears?... the xperia E!

I am a little upset that the xperia E comes with official Android 4.1 JB having less specs then the xperia play and they get jellybean! not ICS straight to jellybean! both specs are identical but the xperia E has a lower Gpu and internal memory AND STILL! I understand that sony said that they wanted to leave this phone as a gaming phone but at least make it a optional update on your own risk or something

I think the problem is even if Sony released JB for our phone game development would still be slowing down like it has been lately. Plus all the older XPO releases like asphalt 6 and star battalion wouldn't work. Not like a lot of people play those. I still do. Is it possible to utilize some aspects of the xperia e's firmware?

thats why i say at your own risk, for people who might not want to game in the xperia play
Wouldn't be the first time a weaker phone got a newer FW than Xperia Play... we've already established that the reason Xperia Play didn't get ICS/JB was because it would throw the software compatibility way off.
If you want a good example of how bad it would've been, just look at all Evo V owners who are in an absolute fury because the vast majority of 3D games were made to operate under 2.3. The way I see it, Sony did the smart thing by opting for a more stable ecosystem.
The thing is that a lot of app developers are abandoning gb, and making apps for 4.0+, even Google them self, example, chrome browser a great browser but not for gb.
I'd even settle for a decent official ics from Sony, I mean the developers here are doing a better job than them
sent from my R800z using XDA premium
The Xperia Play has a Scorpion S2 CPU, it's old. The Xperia E is a Cortex A5. Scorpion might be faster in raw flops but the A5 has more features. Snapdragon is quite poor by today's standards and the Xperia E will probably beat it in many ways.

Hey dan!
and i see what you mean by the differences, i seen some benchmarks
I am going to admit many people know more about the inner workings of hardware. But I am sure that with the xperia e's 320x240 resolution also helps in benchmarks as it's not having to push as much in terms of resolution. Although I know that is only one aspect of a bigger picture.

If we dont get an offical update, the Only possible thing we could do is port Samsung's 4.2.2,but it's hell of a job. And i dont understand why would someone even want that,Touchwiz is the stupidest and most bloated thing in whole android industry, followed by Timescape and sense and such. Use CyanogenMod,that's real android power, not stupid manufacturer-bloated roms. We should concentrate on cracking the bootloader and porting AOSP and CM10.2. Then we will see the true power of our phone.
