I love htc but they did us wrong with the kernal source. I know we got it but they made us wait a while. Even though we did well without is thanks to our awesome devs. I was wondering if all you out there will stick to htc or go elsewhere due to the support? Im not totally mad because like i said we did great without it. Let me know whats in on your mind.

i'm still gonna support HTC cause no matter what they got the build quality and i love sense still the best
Yeah Sense UI is what keeps me with HTC, its just so pretty and their phones are solid, but here recently i have been thinking alot about them doing us wrong on source but HTC is where ill prolly stay.I have been looking at the Design too

The build quality on HTC's are solid. The kernel source was really frustrating to me and the way Samsung is handling things makes me want to go Samsung next device. Alas I still have another year+ for an upgrade.
I love HTC I know they took a lot to release the kernel source, like everybody else the build of their phones is great, the htc loggers issue and now the wimax issue.. and still love sense no other manufacturer skin on top is better.
I just switchd to the Motorola Photon just cause it has a great build quality, better radios the international capabilities and is faster overall but the most important thing is that I bought it brand new for only 250 bucks that was less than half price...
But I would definitely buy HTC again in the future.
I agree with others that HTC makes a great phone, and I love Sense; but I'll probably go to a different manufacturer next time around due to the lack of communication from HTC about the delay in releasing our source plus the data logging being done unscrupulously by HTC.

I was thinking of the Design too. I figured by New Years/Christmas that maybe the price would drop a little and i can get a good deal on it
It's true HTC did screw everyone by holding up the Source Kernel. I for one am truely pissed off by this. But that being said, I WILL buy an HTC device when I finally decide to retire my Shift. Because I prefer their devices to all the others I have owned (Samsung, Motorola, LG, Sanyo).

You can believe that , big brother is always watching. Here's a little tid bit for all you out there. I read somewhere recently that their are over 1 million surveillance cameras active in the US
I'm gonna stick with HTC because they have the best quality android phone with sprint. The samsungs and lgs feel like toys and also feel like if you dropped them they'd break. Plus Sense is awsome....
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Although HTC has delayed the Evo Shift kernel source they have stuck to their word on other devices. Look at how fast the kernel source for the HTC Sensation and HTC Evo 3D were released. But like others said I am also pissed about how they kept it from us for so long. Then the only reason they did is because we all got sick of it here on xda and decided to bug the sh** out of them about it. Next time we need to not wait so long and get on their a**es right away

Definitely will stay with HTC. They, imo, have the best quality devices. And yes ill say it also, sense rocks!!
sent using a freaking pigeon, with a note tied to its leg
I will go with whatever company has a phone with the features I am looking for and it must be able to be rooted fully and I want the Kernel sources released in a timely manner. Build quality is one major thing I do look for. I will not switch from Sprint either...I get too good of an employee discount through my work(24%).
I was in Sam's Club yesterday and handled some of the phones and the Epic Touch 4G is way too big and feels cheap. I would probably not buy a Samsung because of how they feel even though the features and screens seem nice...way too big on the Epic Touch. But nice if they made a high end phone in a 4" screen or smaller like last years models. I am not sure if the screens would overcome the build quality...tough call. Samsung does seem a little better lately with support though.
The Photon felt really nice. It felt solid and seemed to have nice features including a nice kickstand. The styling is a nice change as well. I would consider a Motorola based on build quality and features but I wouldn't buy one until a full root was achieved. They seem better lately but I don't trust them as a company.
The HTC EVO Design 4G felt the best of the bunch. I would love that phone if it had the specs of some of the higher end phones. The build quality was great. It reminded me of the Nexus One based on how it has the unibody type build to it. I would consider this phone in a heartbeat if it had a dual core processor.
The EVO 3D was nice as well but I hate the fact I would be buying a phone with 3D. Even though I could turn it off I hate knowing I am paying for a feature like that which I don't care about. Give me the EVO 3D specs in the EVO Design body/screen size minus the 3D and I'd be in heaven.
It is just too bad you have to buy a tablet sized screen to get the best specs anymore. After owning the EVO Shift as my first smartphone and using Swype and Swift Key X I will not buy another phone with a hardware keyboard but I will also not buy a phone with a screen larger than 4" so I am in a sort of dilemma as I don't have a lot of choices these days in high end phones. Hopefully by January-June 2013 there will be better options with better sized screens available. That Epic Touch just felt huge. There is no way it would be comfortable to put in my pocket.
Anyway, back on topic. Yes, I would buy another HTC but not out of brand loyalty or anything like that. I buy based on what the phone has to offer.
amoled looks soooo good that I'll be jumping brands when the time comes.
I'm actually upgrading from my shift to an epic 4g touch but strictly for issues with the device(ie. Messages, contacts, replacements w/ corroded motherboards) but I plan on keeping my shift and rooting it. Just can't stay with a manufacturer who can't do anything to help on a carrier who only cares about high end devices.

you had to go!!!! After having this phone for 2 weeks, it just didn't quite cut it even though on paper it was remarkable. It had a dual core processor, higher resolution, webtop capabilities on and on...
In the end I guess my old eyes couldn't handle the smaller icons due to higher resolution, I had issues with my MP3 player playing only 3/4 of song then stopping and then i wasn't liking the dual core heating up like a toaster oven. THe icons were dull colors too....Motorola likes these dull browns for icons where as HTC likes to use color and make it vivid.
I also like to play around with my phone too much so LOCKED BOOTLOADER was not cool. Did you hear me Motorola, LOCKED BOOTLOADER for a lot of people dont like that.....
So in the end I got the Inspire 4G with Sense. You really cant go wrong with HTC, although I understand the postive and negatives to each phone, mine just happen to fit more in line with HTC.
So for you hopefuls that Motorola will unlock it, wish you the best of luck or that they will do many updates, wish you the best of luck!!!
Not trying to start a huge debate, but if you are on the fence about these two phones, just spend 10 mins. with the Inspire and most people will probably like it over the Motorola.
its funny i had the inspire for 2 weeks....got rid of it a few days ago
got the Atrix...and THANK GOD I DID
4.3 inches at the **** resolution its at was a disaster, hurt my hands. Too heavy
not very fast, barely played videos (htc codecs suck)
Like you said, it comes down to opinion
but switching from inspire 4g to atrix was the best thing I ever did
PS: The battery on that thing gave me EPIC NIGHTMARES.

You actually can go wrong with HTC, its when they put a 1200 mah battery in a 1.8 ghz capable phone then you get to watch your battery lose a percent every 4 minutes of use. I had one it was totally BS battery life and was totally unacceptable. Then people say "just don't OC it" so then you have a 4.3 inch captivate with less ui lag, no usable internal memory storage, and GPS that works.

I love HTC phones. But they have to be Android. I have the evo 4G and I couldn't be happier. It's fast, vibrant, has all the bells and whistles. I literally have a mini computer at the palm of my hands.
I've had it for about 3 weeks now and yeah the battery goes quick but thats because I can't put it down! I had the Hero before switching to evo and I love everything about this phone.
I didn't understand why it was called the supersonic until I used it. Is rather have my HTC evo over any other phone on the market. Puts the iPhone to shame with its 8.0mp camera, and its secondary front-mounted camera makes video chatting a synch, the kickstand is awesome for watching YouTube or movies and also playing games. Oh and I almost forgot it has an HDMI out. Used it and the picture on my tv is remarkable.
Keep up the good work HTC and Google....I love you
Oh and one other thing it has a 4G mobile hotspot that can provide WiFi for up to 8 devices at once. If thats not remarkable I don't know what is

i like the Evo and a lot of people i kno and see around campus have either the evo or iphone 4, very few galaxy S phone, but honestly i think the Atrix is better then all of them, even the Galaxy S II won't compare judging from the specs that were given(but i can't prove it until the phone comes out so it's just an opinion)
I've never been a fan of Motorola. I have had very bad experiences with mot. Phones. I have had nothing but good experiences with HTC w/google. I also used to have the blackberry curve 8310 and thought it was the best thing since buttered toast. But that quickly changed when I switched to sprint.
Sprint has better service than ATT & Verizon combined IMO. But thats just how I feel. They have given me good prices and great devices with no hassle and I'm not the type to ruin a good thing. Bottom line is "to each his own" but I will recommend HTC with Android until either HTC starts slacking or Google bites the dust (which they wont).
I'm sure you all have valid points about your phone's but I'm pro HTC and definitly pro Google.

I've had many htc phones and have always had a good experience. I had a hard time waiting for the atrix when I saw the inspire for $100. At that price point it is a steal for the features you get. In the end i'm glad I waited though. The Atrix is rediculously good!!! Super fast and great battery life (I get about 16 hours a charge... 16!!!) It is hands down the best phone i've ever used. Head shoulders and more above the rest, a GIANT among a sea of average phones.

I was impressed by the Inspire back when it came out on Sprint as the Evo... what, eight months ago? I made the mistake of buying old hardware that just came out once, the Hero. Never again.
Coming from the Captivate, the only things I miss are how vibrant the games looked on SAMOLED and flashing the new hot stuff roms.
Do not miss accidently bricking the thing and having to use a USB jig to fix it though...
I am from a another continent; a faraway country - Singapore to be exact. Smartphones is one of my hobbies. I have had several HTC phones - Windows Mobile, and now the Desire on Android which is about 9 months old, and high time for a replacement. I have been reading and eyeing the Atrix since Jan 2011 - all excited about it's superior tech specs, and particularly its innovative HDMI/TV docking unit. I have been preparing myself to be an early adopter and to purchase a unit from EBay at a premium price. I have been so impressed with what I read that I even invested in some MMI stocks. But, all these excitement, hype and high expectations of owning a Atrix (will be my first Moto) came to a complete stop last weekend - when I learnt that a famed developer (he did the unroot for the Atrix) abandoned his work because of the locked bootloader! Motorola may have their own reasons to do this, but it is unacceptable to me. So, unless I see a Moto announcement to unlock the bootloader, I am off looking for another dual core smartphone - either the LG 2X or wait for HTC to release one. Obviously I will also sell off my MMI stocks - even if I have to incur a loss, given its recent rapid decline. Sorry folks, if I have been somewhat off-topic. Just wanted to voice my opinion.

It really is perplexing -the decision to lock the bootloader. I mean, are they afraid someone would engineer a program that steals fingerprints...etc?
Had to post to fellow nexers. Lost my sexy nexy n am now in position to buy out right my next baby. Choices r evo 3d, g2x now (been waiting atrix, n evo. Its hard since I've waited so long for LG star/g2x. G2x has vanilla but rom changing either way. Thanks for n e feed back ^_^
via light blue yoshied magic
I'm torn between the G2X or the SGS2.
The Atrix eh. I think the dock is cool, but would never use it. I think motorola has the bootloader on lockdown like other models.
I like the Super Amoled Plus of the SGS2 but no Tegra means no Nvidia love. Also since most Honeycomb devices use Tegra, it might not be fully supported.
I was thinking that I didn't know if I could ever love another screen that wasn't amoled... but a coworker has a G2 and the screen is very crisp. Unless you are purposely comparing black levels, the SLCD might have the 1up.
Maybe we'll get lucky and the SGS2 will launch with a Tegra chipset. They said some markets will get them. Maybe wait and buy a Tegra2 SGS2? Best of both?
What ever Cyanogen moves on to, real talk lol.
Did you have insurance on the N1 or is this next purchase out of your own pocket?
I've never had a smartphone that wasn't made by HTC and I don't know if that will ever change. Still waiting for their next stock phone but if I had to get something now(well, soon anyway), I'd definitely go for the evo 3d. However, buying a dual core phone right now seems like such a waste. Gingerbread does not properly support it and you never know if and when these phones will get updates. I wish the nexus S hadn't been such a let down.. but I'll be happy with my N1 for a while longer
Thanks ALL for replies ^__^

have discount and could get atrix & laptop dock for 700 outright and school with a laptop with no battery is really starting to sway me. I've SCOURED it's forums on XDA and can get a rom i'd be happy with already and the dock has some really good highlights (ex. opening your home XP pc in a window and fullscreen it for a specific program, etc.) I'd miss the .3" extra screen real estate but eh. No 3d like evo or optimus 3d, but it have to be at a certain distance and my television isnt 3d so no good there. atrix will mirror to my 73" hd tv. though Switch to att is a pill i'd have to swallow but employee line helps there ^__^ and it's lte will be backwards compatible so will just need a sim not a new phone (G'Luck verizon). Would like to have htc on tmobile but I cant wait for ever and i lost my nexus New Years so I've been relying on my htc magic since then =( may wait till april 20th to see what LG says this time but prob. biting the motorolla bullet tomorrow

Really? Since when? HTC's are the ones with the screens falling off and hinges that open when the device is tilted. I haven't heard of any 'build quality' issues with any samsungs?!
The only problem with sammy is the delay in receiving 'official' updates but who uses stock anyway?
The specs and features of the sgs2 out shine any phone on the market, the only thing it is lacking is a qhd res but that isn't important to most people, I mean who cares about screen res when you can 1080p output via hdmi.
What you should really be worrying about is which phone supports wiimote and can do full hdmi mirroring.
Wait for HTC pyramid supposing the rumors are true!

I sold my EVO and bought an Epic back in December... big mistake for someone that likes to dev and tweak his phone. The Epic hardware is awesome, but the dev support is very lacking. Yeah, I could overclock my Epic and score 2400+ on Quadrant and it took great HD Video compared to the EVO. The screen was also beautiful. I traded the Epic for an EVO because I missed being able to dev. If you're the type of person that always wants to be on the cutting edge with the newest version of Android, then stay with what the DEVs are using (probably EVO3D). If you're someone that runs the same ROM for months at a time (i.e. not a flashaholic) then the Samsung S II may be best for you. It depends on what you're looking for and what you're looking to do with your phone.

My only concern is developing for the EVO 3D as they have some new files that are going to be or may be difficult to work on. Only time will tell. I'm going to the EVO 3D because I love Sense and I can tell you right now the galaxy wont have that.
My favorite roms are myns for sense and cm7 for latest android roms. So I guess ill stay with HTC

I checked out both phones at Google IO. The galaxy S2 was so thin and the screen was amazing. Both phones were super snappy.
The only turnoffs for me on the galaxy s2 was the plasticky cover and the weight. Anyone who's owned a Samsung phone knows what i'm talking about with the plasticky feeling phones. But the weight of the S2 blew me away. I can't remember a lighter smartphone. It felt like a toy. It was basically "too light." I'm sure for many, that phrase doesn't even make sense, but for me, I like phones that feel solid and have some substance to them. For some, when they throw this phone in their pocket, they won't even know its there.
I have to hand it to Samsung though. The S2 is an impressive engineering accomplishment. Its the highest performance phone I've seen announced, and its so damn thin and light.
I'm personally a fan of sense, or at least having the option of sense, and I doubt that would ever fully translate to a Samsung product no matter what developers are working on it.
I really love the slab form of the GSII, if they release a HTC slab phone (like the Sensation) on Sprint, that would really be the phone I'd want. Evo 2?
HTC has better radios and gps, Samsung sucks!
the s2 does seem intriguing...also i hate that instead of hdmi out, the use usb and then give you a converter cable w/ an additional power source on it. plus, for some unknown reason, it seems we could be waiting a while before it actually hits the market in the states for some reason eventhough it is already in europe (gsm version). also, i hopped on to the evo 3d thread a while ago and the dev's were introducing themselves...there were LOADS of great dev's coming on board. With the specs and dev's on board, the 3d will have some spectacular features!
I am intrigued by the GS2 and the new version of Touchwiz... I HATE HATE HATE touchwiz, but the new version looks ok so far.
One thing that will keep me from considering the GS2 is if it has a physical keyboard. I don't know why Sprint has to be the one that gets that...
I'm going with the EVO 3D. The specs look awesome.

Enough new features that make the phone better, its easy to overlook the design that's different form the One X.
I think its a nice phone. Most of the new phones coming out are all nice and promising. Not to fond about the network haha sprint just got slow.... but hopefully their Lte will be great we'll see

It is a nice phone...now we'll probably have to wait a year or so for devs to make better ROMs for it. I *wish* HTC would drop the "Beats by Dr Dre" crap. Makes all audio sound like crap.

Why do you assume we'll have to wait that long? Evo 4G was rooted before it even launched, I was flashing new ROMs 2 months later (based on my post history).
I agree that Beats is lame, though. I see students wearing their Beats headphones and telling me how epic they are, I have them listen to my 8-year-old Sony DJ cans (which aren't even that amazing to begin with, compared to the Sennheiser set I had before them) and they totally outperform. Plus, they cost less than half what the Beats label costs these kids (or, realistically, their parents).
I think the Evo One is a great phone, it was obviously announced yesterday because yesterday was the day launch-day Evo 4G buyers were eligible for full upgrade. But that's fine with me, I've been looking for anything that could make me feel as good about upgrading as the Evo did in 2010. Wasn't too stoked about the SGS3 or the Galaxy Nexus, I was hoping HTC would bring something big to the table. They've been faltering as of late, hopefully this will represent a comeback.
Now that's the phone that may keep me around with Sprint after my current contract expires. I just hope that they would have the LTE network in my area soon. WiMax??? I got to use it only twice when I visited Chicago ever since I got the EVO.
1.2mp front cam. i'll pass. what a let down. what a joke. pathetic phone.
not worth the $200 upgrade.
notsrs.

I leap to presume as the EVO4g Design has been out for a long while and doesn't even have a listing on XDA Forums. And I have yet to hear of ROM support for it.
It looks like a promising device. I wish they'd have stuck with the ONE brand name, but that's just a minor quibble. Unless something else hits in the latter part of this year that strikes my interest, this might be my next device (coming from the OG EVO).
Personally I was bit disappointed yesterday, after hearing that sprint would be possibly getting a one-x. I was hoping that they would have kept the one-x the way it was with the two extras that they added. I guess I just wanted something fresh in the aesthetics department as well as specs but o well. I also think that if they had stayed with the look of the one-x that the possibility of more sales could have come from just the looks of a new phone. Customers that dont really care about internals are going to see this 4gLTE one might not be pleased.
Overall, it looks like a decent phone. I'm personally not happy with the sealed battery/case. So I will wait to see if the Samsung Galaxy 3S also has a sealed battery/case before making a decision which phone will replace my Evo OG. Of course, I won't look at either until there is broad LTE coverage in Atlanta. So probably 2014 at this rate.
Defiantly not buying it.

You can do it on an Evo 4G by simultaneously pressing the power, volume up and volume down buttons. So I would assume the new Evo would also have a way to do it. Worse case, you have to wait for your battery to drain.
I'm pretty excited about it! And fyi the front cam is 1.3 mp and its capable of 720p video. I'm not really big on the design, but the features look to be enough of an upgrade to my og evo to warrant paying $200 for the upgrade.

HTC pissed me off big time after I locked myself into a three year contract in 2010, only to find the last update my phone would ever see would come less than 12 months later.
Thanks the the Andromadus team I was fortunate to keep my phone running a newer version of Android, but at the end of the day, I don't care what anyone says, without help from HTC with a 3.0 kernel, the roms never really ran as well as they should.
Now it seems that not only are HTC not helping us out by releasing some of their drivers, they are actually using legal powers to go after the dev's working for free to make their ****ty old devices better! Go Figure: http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/176z3i/htc_demanding_i_take_down_ruus_and_even_my_custom/
I won't be buying again from HTC anytime soon.

and their new ****ty devices.
Iphonish device :
- so sd
- no removable battery
The g2 was my last, for sure.!
and here i thought i was done hatting htc.... seriously why is it that my once favorite smart phone company has their head so far up their ass that the loose all respect from those once committed customers? how do they not realize that the people most praising android phone manufactures tend to be the developers and users of custom software. when they piss of the ones with the loudest voices they loose not just the developers and users but when their base shrinks they start loosing the average customer too.
id bet for every one developer that leaves htc hundreds users of their custom roms go as well. and for each one of these people who leave hundreds more go from hearing their thoughts.... eh done ranting, **** HTC im through
If they would have given more support to the MyTouch 4G Slide I'd still be using it. Instead two devices have turned into paperweight mode because of HTC's lack of concern of its consumer base. The last decent phone they made was the G2, and I still keep it updated as a backup phone.
HTC makes such good phones yet they are way behind even on updating their flagship phones.

I must agree. I think HTC shoud not compete in the Iphone market (with no sd card, no hardware keyboard) instead they could creat its own market, find its own costumers, we are here waiting for a better G2 with a better hinge, faster and with more RAM/ROM.
I remember the times when to think HTC was to think good-solid-business-phones and they are now music-social-photo-iPhail-phones.
A good market stratagy could be encourage devs to develop for HTC instead for other brands. They have expensive lawyers that could be better used helping HTC encouraging devs than used to hunt them down.
I agree
HTC should stick with their own phones instead of trying to be like everyone else. I love my G2, and am actually considering getting the Samsung Relay 4G, I don't care for the all touch screen phones, I prefer to have a physical keyboard, ever since my first Sidekick Color, and up til a few years ago, I was a Sidekick freak til the Danger server crash and severe loss of my data. But I also realized that the Sidekick was a little behind the times and slow to catch up, so after my SK LX, I jumped to the Motorola Cliq, which was a bad move, but still a major stepping stone. I think HTC was on the right track with the hinge on the G2, I have had mine for almost 3 years now with no issues, and have dropped it more than several times!
