Freeze Market Updater using an app like Titanium Backup, or use Terminal Emulator to freeze it. The required terminal emulator command can be found in this post:

Hey fellas I'm new to the android world. Q? I just rooted my phone with the z4root, so how can I install custom roms with out flashing my phone?
Sent from my SPH-M920 using XDA App
You can't.
Simply put, you can't. That is the only way to install a different rom is to flash it to your phone.

On the phone, Download z4root from google and install it, then open it and choose Perm Root, then it will install su and the Superuser app.
Hope it helps.
I tried the z4 infact thats was the way I rooted my phone the first time but after the ota update they shut down Z4root's path. I need my root back to tether (no internet at all now!)

does anyone know how i can remove the stock messaging in cm7 and replace it with the one in wildpuzzle or can i remove it and replace with go sms
You can't install sense apps, and yeah you can install go SMS, I don't see the problem..., if you wanna completely remove the stock app, use adb to remove it or titanium backup.

tried removing with titanium backup how do i use adb to remove
Boot into recovery and mount system.
On terminal, type adb shell, then rm -r /system/app/Mms.apk

maybe for my HTC thunderbolt but not his samsung galaxy s i told him to look for that first
I'm pretty sure I have read from somewhere that phones released for Verizon by Samsung don't allow you to install non-market applications (this is requested by Verizon, so it's not really Samsung's fault). The only way to have that feature is to flash some custom rom.
I watched a video on how to root this phone and there is a one click root and the program has a button that will change it so it will allow non market apps but I want to know if it has to be rooted or not to do it

For non-market apps your device doesn't have to be rooted.
Only if you want to use apps that require root.

Got my atrix today. Still tryna get used to a 4 inch screen. Havent rooted yet (usually root my devices the second they get there first charge) but seems as if everything is beta rite now. Question though, would the updated motoblur launcher work without root? Like sidload the apk?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
use gingerbreak to root and the launcher probably wont work, havnt seen anyone mention it anyway
No you cant sideload apps out of the box. You first need to root with gingerbreak method and then use the gladenable script to enable sideloading.

I was thinking of using the side loading wonder machine. And to root, dont I have to rsd sbf 1.8.3 first? Anyways, thanks for the answers

Congrats! Ateix is a great device. Easiest way to install Nonmarket apps is to go to Android store n purchase "Non Market apps Enabler" created by fellow member here. Only costs 1 dollar somethn. Enables the checkbox n options to enable non market app installs. Works instantly. No side loading n all that needed. Saves a ton of Time n hassle. I got it n was installing non market apps instantly with it!
If its a UK spec one, you can side load without doing anything... Otherwise rooting will be required
