I followed the steps to set the security flag to 'S-Off' and I know everything went successful on the terminal but when I go into Hboot it still shows 'S-On'. I'm on 0.86.0000 and I'm perma-rooted with Visionary using stock 2.2.1 build of Froyo. I rooted the device earlier this year with no problem and 'S-Off' worked, too, but I had to give device to Mom, so I unrooted it and switched back to 'S-On'. When I got it back, I re-rooted but now I can't get gfree to switch back to S-Off even after I followed those steps exactly as written. Can someone help??

The best solution that I know of is to factory reset with pd15img. There are some cases where for some reason s won't become off. And after a factory reset it should work fine

Have you tried the root.sh method. It gives s-off also, but you do it on the phone instead. Make sure you have 2.2.1 an use androzip to unzip the file.
From my fist to your face, enjoy!

i used the method mentioned here
hxxp://theunlockr.com/2010/11/15/universal-android-rooting-method-visionary-method/
and it shows i still have SU permission... but everytime my phone re starts, it opens visionary and says rooting phone...
but the thing is, my phone is snail slow now... and when i go back to the main screen, it takes forever and says loading... then my normal screen shows up... its also taking forever to do simple things, such as open text msg's
any suggestions on this problem?
Lol i think you didnt properly s-off and prem-root your phone. Go to G2/disireZ android dev... locate the thread about prem rooting. There should be 3 methods. 1 gfree(safest) 2. Unforgivens method( fastest) and 3. Rage method( dont know) well yea... hope u get rooted and if anybody sees my post can you guys better explain lol thanks
Edit: lol just go to stickes and there should be a thread that talks about guilds and roms.

shows my phone is rooted, and su lets me access it, also just tried to dl setcpu and it has access as well....
just the phone is still stupid slow.. and i want to fix that
Okay... what rom are u using?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
stock, i have not touched anything yet, tryign to get input on which is the best sense rom to dl...
basically i just want to clean up the phone, remove all bells crap from it, and speed it up a lil bit....
Quick thing i want u to do. Can u turn off your phone and hold vol down + power and tell me what it says on the upper left of the screen
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
ya it says s-on still.... whats the easy way to get rid of this... and as i said i just want to speed up this phone a lil bit
Lol do you want full root? Or just speed up your phone?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
both, id like the option to upgrade to a nice optimized sense rom, and to speed up the phone

http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...Subsidy_Unlock.2C_SuperCID.2C_and_Radio_S-OFF
( this is the gfree method the safest) i advice to follow this sinces its the safest

but since it says my phone is rooted already, can this cause problems? or can i un root and re do it?
Lol alrighty. When you get prem-root/s-off you should flash virtuous Rom(sense) or cyan RC1 Rom(stock android feel).
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
No lol you are not rooted. You have temp root. If your hboot says s-on then your not rooted. I advice not to mess with the prem root button on visionary.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
no no what im saying is that since my phone says its s-on still, but it says its rooted... how can i start fresh, by say unrooting my phone, or is there some way i can just hop in the middle here....
im new to all this and i dont want to screw up my phone lol
Your using visionary right? Since you have s-on after you reboot your phone it should be unrooted again. Just make sure you turn off the start at boot thing on visionary
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Dont use visionary, use the other two. There have been to many problems with Visionary.
i did turn it off, and setcpu still has access it says.... so where can i confirm on the phone is it is or is not rooted....
Does h-boot say S-Off?
Like i said before. Turn off your phone hold vol down + power. If it says s-off on the left top of the screen the your rooted. Well i used unforgivens way of prem rooting and no issues. S-off (security off)

nope says s-on

Have you tried the ./gfree method? the root.sh script method?
I have tried the visionary way but s is still on.
Gfree gave my computer a virus so I was being on the safe side and not trying that again.

WTF? gfree gave you virus? care to elaborate on that? that is the first time I heard of this in XDA. Far as Visionary go did you follow it exact step by step?
I did everything they told me for visionary.
But with gfree when setting up adb the link from google some reason gave me a virus from the recommend download

I was hoping I could have some light for me on my issue that i'm having.
I installed Visionary / checked off temp root boot / made sure debugging was on hit temp root now and then I went in to the terminal and am able to get into SU / cd /sdcard/root sh root.sh
but after this when I Reboot and I hold down the volume button that new screen pops up but it says
S = ON
How do i get that to say off
Try grankins method. It worked for me. I couldn't get s-off with any other method and I tried them all. Did his method in one try and have had s-off since then.

Do I det the file off my sd card. I have tryed with out det and it said I was already
Rooted?
are you still running stock rom? if so download rom manager from the market, install clockworkmod and flash a cutom rom. if its going to be a froyo (2.2) rom download and flash clockwork 3.0.0.5, if it's going to be a gingerbread rom (2.3) download 2.5.x.x or follow a guide to install 3.0.0.6. root doesn't play nice with stock rom that's why usually when you root you flash a custom rom fairly quickly afterwards.
Hope this helped
Nic
You can also get superuser off the market.

I assume you're using visionary to temp root and permanent root. if root doesn't stick the first time, keep hitting temp root and then permanent root in visionary. Try that. I can tell you brief step by step to get ultimate permanent root and sim unlock but you might go crazy just by reading lol.
Just go get superuser out of the market again. Then you will be able to su in terminal emulater again.

i need help, tried to root and visionary is stuck in the black screen (not responding). is there anything i can do to fix this. usb debugging and fast boot are off, and unknown sources is on.
It should go black for a little bit. What version of visionary are you using.
14 was the only one that worked for me.
