i just updated my dvd catalyst to build 4.1.0.2
theres 4 different device settings for the xoom
xoom
xoom(fast)
xoom hq1
xoom hq2
what settings do you guys use?

Hi Fondoo,
I just replied to your post over on xoomforums:
http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/dvd-catalyst/11792-dvd-catalyst-4-settings.html

I use xoom 1. A 4gb file usually gives a 2gb file. Great quality.

DVD catalyst is only for DVD ripping? I have over 3TB of movies 720p in my hard drive and want to have some movies on my xoom, the video format are for the most part avi but i also have others formats. Can i use DVD catalyst to decode mmy movies into a format that I would be able to watch on my xoom?
Sorry it is of the topic

It does video files too.
Just try a few of your files to get your settings figured out, and after that, it is as easy as dragging your entire 3TB collection onto the program and tap Go to have dvdcat convert them all. It batches them automatically. With a collection that large, it might take a while before its done though.

I know but I will convert my video as I need them. I purchased the app and I tried to convert 5 720P videos to see how it would work. I used the option Xoom HQ2 because I am converting HD files and according to your post it is a faster option. I saved in my SD card and also in my Xoom's internal memory just to see which one would have a better performance.
What's happening is that when I tap on the video to play it looks like it will load but it never does, the video (all of them) would never load. The videos are about 2.3GB in size.
Any ideas of what I should do?

Actually HQ2 is (for 720p files) the profile that provides the best quality.
Based on your description I would suggest to switch video players. My guess is that you have a trial version of Dice Player installed that is expired.
The video files created by DVD Catalyst play great using the stock video player, and while there are quite a few market-players that have hardware support, some of their "plugins" can cause conflicts with the default video playback engine.

Rockplay Lite work for you? It's worked for me...
it says "Not play hardware codec, move to software codec!!"
wtf lol
just downloaded rockplayer. It gives me the choice of using software or hardware codec but both fail. Downloading a new movie....
I know this is slightly off topic, but I have been using DVD Catalyst to rip DVD's for my Xoom and I am extremely impressed with the ease of use and the quality of the converted files. The files play perfectly with the default movie player full screen and the "volume maximizer" works very well.
I know this may not help if you already have DVD rips as I know converting files multiple times does not always work very well, but thought I should mention it.
I do not work for them, just a happy customer.
Just tried another video in both players, same problem. Any ideas?

Wait, I thought the Xoom could play many different formats.
Use MoboPlayer
You need to use the Moboplayer. Get it from the market or from their home page
moboplayer.com
Use the Medium V6 VFP version on your Xoom.
It plays just about every video format out there.
ya, that made all my divx work and i didnt have to convert anything =D
I hated re-encoding everything to Xoom format until I found MoboPlayer. Sit back and enjoy your movies
Motorola didn't pay to get their tablet "Divx certified", so you have to use third party players to handle avi/mkv files. The only negative about having to use a third party player is that its using the CPU to play the file and will drain the battery at a faster rate than if the Xoom was hardware decoding it.
Does anyone know if the Moboplayer will play MTS files? My Panasonic DMC-ZS3 camera captures 720p movie using the AVCHD (MPEG-4/H.264) format, via AVCHD lite..... The saved file is an MTS file and I'd love to be able to play it natively without re-encoding it........

[Q] Convert video for Iconia

Hi guys, it's about a week that i'm tring to create a flawlessy working HD video for the Iconia, i've tried a lot of config but no one works, so i tried with Up downloaded from iTunes and it works like a charm, with a very good quality in about 4GB with the native Honeycomb player. So i take my Tron Legacy BluRay and tried to create a MP4 with HandBrake with AppleTV 2 preset but when i play it with every player i've got on my tab (native, Mobo, VPlayer, RockPlayer, Vital and Nemo) it's like fast forwarding and i cant slow it down to normal speed. With MediaInfo i compare the downloaded Up m4a and my rip of Tron, they look the same (same ref frames, same b-frame and all) but the iTunes one works, mine not. Obviously on PC everything it's ok.
So guys, what do you use to convert your videos to playback on Iconia?
I took the advice from this post and was able to get a 720p conversion using Handbrake from a 1080p mp4 rip of Shaun of the Dead, using Loose Animorphic setting and 1280 Picture width. You have to go to the Advanced tab and set Maximum B-Frames to 0 (from default 2?) and Preferences/General/Output Files, uncheck "'Use iPod /iTunes friendly (.m4v) file extension for MP4'". Also a good idea to make sure the Audio's set to no more than 160kbps, I think that's the Honeycomb maximum audio rate for video files atm.
Oh, the 720p file ended up being ~2GB, looks good but not great picture (occasional blur artifacting on hard scene transitions.)
Thanks, did you use AppleTV preset?
I'm going to try with your settings (i thought i used the same, but probably i'm wrong), tomorrow morning i'm coming back to update.
I've been using this preset: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVBpeQNWbEQ and have had no problems
That preset works perfect.. Thanks!
I use normal and no b-frames and i got a playable videos but very choppy. I'm going to try that present, thanks Bootup.
I've used HandBrakeCLI under Linux to convert HD MKVs for use on my Iconia. It definitely works ok for 720p video but not yet tried any 1080p.
I've written a couple of scripts that convert a single mkv file and also a directory full of mkv files, they can be downloaded here: http://db.tt/Fq7knIr
Usage is simply: "mkv2iconia.sh inputfile.mkv" or just "bulkmkv2iconia.sh" for a full directory. They will both produce "inputfile.mp4" that can be played via hardware accelerated system player
Requirements: a linux command line, HandBrakeCLI, and a lot of time/patience.
Hope this is useful to someone.

I'll give it a try if the preset posted before wont work for my rip of Tron Legacy.
I've been using a Windows application called DVD Catalyst 4 (tools4movies.com) to convert video. It had a lot of buzz about it on various forums, but I was skeptical. But it has a group of settings specifically for the Acer A500 (fast, HQ, 1080p) which make it easy to use and the new beta version works with DVDs or Blu-Rays (even copy protected ones if you have AnyDVD installed). I've done a few movies as tests and it seems to work very well.
And I was a user of Handbrake and RipBot264 previously.
I'm ripping a DVD now to try this process. It's getting good feedback, but I'll be able to decide for myself once I get it on tab. http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...rum/14292-ripping-videos-dvd-acer-solved.html
Update: Just transferred the movie onto my tab (Tangled @1.05 GB) and all I can say is wow!! You guys definitely must give this a try.
@DJ_Jedi
At the risk of sounding stupid, how are you using videos downloaded from iTunes on your Acer? I thought they were DRM protected.
Do all of your videos that you have encoded come out a bit choppy? Like skipping frames all the time.

I just take it, renamed to .mp4 and copy into my Movies folder, it said "Could not work, copy anyway?" i said yes and it works.
But great news guys, used the Xoom preset posted on the previous page and it works great! Picture quality it's not the best, a little bit lower than on my previous tries, but definitely good, i'm gonna try 2 ref frames and target size 4GB and not avg bitrate 3500.
i use rock player... it plays pretty much every video file
Here is a guide for ripping high quality DVD to a500. Read to the bottom, as video conversion is discussed as well.

I have been using dvdvidesoft for our other android phones with the iPhone/I pad settimgs with no issues. I switched to it from handbrake because it was faster...,very user friendly and wasn't quite the resource hog handbrake was

Been using DVD Catalyst for a long time now. I usually rip in a Divx encoded AVI wrapper, but the Iconia Tab d/n support AVI files. So I did a couple rips using the Apple TV HQ HD settings and that is working peachy. I didn't realize it had a specific device profile for the Acer (doh!).
I like this tablet, but the poor media file format support will keep it from being my main entertainment portable go to device. That will remain my Archos 70IT (250GB) for the time being.
I think i'll stick to Handbrake + Xoom Preset downloaded from here, good quality and about 3 hours conversion with a 2.1 dual core mobile CPU, guess how much it takes with an i7, because i'm going to buy a new PC this summer and i'm waver between i7 2600 and new AMD's Bulldozer...

It is not free, but DVD Catalyst is well worth it. It creates very good quality files that play perfectly on the Xoom. They have several presets for the Xoom based on how you plan on watching (Xoom or HDMI).
http://www.tools4movies.com/2011/03/dvd-catalyst-4-xoom-update-v4-0-2-6-release-notes/
If you have already ripped your movies you can still use those files with DVD Catalyst, but it can also rip them for you.
I do not work for them or are in any way related, just a happy customer.
If it's a dvd rip, you might be able to get away with moboplayer's (or rockplayer's) software decoding mode. Get it (on your xoom) and try one or two of your rips before you convert everything.
ok guys. i use dvdfab to rip the movie and then purchased dvd catalyst 4 xoom to convert. i uploaded the mp4 video to the xoom and the movie does not play. i downloaded moboplayer with avi codec and it still doesnt play. what movie player do you guys recommend on the xoom??

The MP4 files created with DVD Catalyst play best using the stock video player (since it has better hardware support) however, Gallery tends to be a bit picky.
The best way is to use a file-explorer (es file explorer or root explorer for example) to browse and select the video.
edit: try directly from DVD rather than using dvdfab first. I am not sure if you changed any settings in DVD Catalyst, but try the defaults first. There is a Xoom guide (pdf format) included in the zipfile you downloaded. It makes things a lot easier
I use DVDFab to rip and convert at the same time right from my DVD disc. I use it for MP4/AAC at 20fps, subtitles turned off and choose 2 pass conversion. Comes out really nice. Terminator 2 took about 37mins on my PC and was ready to xfer to my xoom.

so the xoom isnt as easy to get and play dvd rips on as my galaxy tab,for that i just use handbrake and put it on the sdcard and plays perfect everytime was hoping when my xoom gets here it would be that easy. cause i have a bunch all ready ripped to use. their in mp4 format will those work(will handbrake work for xoom using default player)? thx

Videos for Transformer/Tegra 2

Hey guys this is a good video conversion program for virtually any device it comes pre-loaded with 1000's of device profilea. So if you want to convert videos to the closest possible specs for whatever device with good compatibility then try this program:
DVD Catalyst-PM if you need the program
*I also use it to convert 4-8GB MKV to AVCHD with no quality loss. It just remuxes the audio and makes it ready to burn to DVD or DVD-DL so its compatible in PS3 and other Blu-Ray players
Photos are attached. Hope it help some of you

Yup using this now too ...good selection of settings also.
Or spend 5 dollars and buy Dice Player, it'll play anything 720p smoothly no matter what container or audio with mkv embeded subtitle support too.

Not true.

Some "complex" MKV scenes doesnt play well with dice player. if they can solve that, I'd gladly buy the app. I've tried a lot of MKV files and none of them play smoothly without slowdowns for the entire duration of the TV show or Movie.

This used to be the case for me but since they released the codec on a separate app some mkvs play bad. Mx video player works pretty good with mkvs now. It's free and there's a optional paid version

For Blu-rays I've found DVD Catalyst 4 inadequate because of sync issues. I've also read that by turning off Blu-ray Telecine will correct the issue but it doesn't. So, I had to look at other software to rip and convert my Blu-rays. Also DVD Catalyst 4 set my Kaspersky Antivirus Heuristic off and said it was performing in a way similar to a virus or trojan.
I've found that Aiseesoft Blu-ray Ripper works really well. It has video acceleration and will utilize you're AMD (app acceleration) or a NVidia video card with (Cuda technology). It's normally $39 but you can get it HERE for $23.40 with the coupon code 'SMRT-ADEK'. HERE is a guide as to what settings to use for the TF.
Another great software would be Pavtube Blu-ray Video Converter Ultimate which runs $65 but you can get it for $37.70 HERE with coupon code 'SOFT-K8TT'. It makes flawless videos for the TF using the XOOM settings. HERE is a guide on how. It has video acceleration just for NVidia video card. It will also let you select not only different subtitles but allows for 'Only allow forced subtitles'.
When I get home from work I'll upload some clips so you can test them on your TF. Also I suggest you use either Dice Player or MX Video for playback.
EDIT: This is the Pavtube settings. Right click on the picture and 'Save As' to download a short single chapter MP4 file to test on your TF.

Playing Blu-Ray movies on my tablet

How can I move Blu-ray movies to my Tab 2 10.1 and play them?
hmm I believe I tried a ripped blu ray and it didn't work, maybe due to the level and spec.
Your other option (if this is the case) is to convert the file down to something we know will play.
http://www.makemkv.com/download/ to rip
and then any other software prog to re encode, I use ripbot264
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/RipBot264
but you will need to ensure you have installed the other bits of software it needs.
I have been using makemkv and dvd catalyst 4, but i am having problems ripping the subtitles, only the hard encoded ones like in avatar.
I will give ripbot a go.
John.
I have been using Ripbot264 for years. I usually choose "SD iPad" setting
with MKV, 1280x720 resolution, CF22, 2.0 audio, normalized to 100%, and
hard subtitles(if needed). A 2-hour Blu-ray usually end up as a 1.3GB
MKV video file.
Instead of the default video player, I always use DicePlayer.(which plays
somewhat smoother 720p video than MX Player)
have you considered using DicePlayer? they've been successfully been able to play my anime, so maybe they're able to play bd? and if you rip them, i would suggest you also use formatfactory. just be wary when you install it as it tend to install random add-ons but other than that, it worthy to use.
FYI: DicePlayer also play .flv as well. i haven't fully tested it, but i can confirm that it play various format and known format to anime, if you know what i'm tlking about.
I have used the Blu-ray converter to enjoy the HD movies on my tablet and I have got it with the cheap price in the Easter deal, works very well.
MakeMKV and Handbrake.

I watched a 6 gig .mvk file on the Tab 2 today. I also used MX Player. Make sure you check the h/w+ option in the settings. Also if you encoded DTS just search for "mx player dts codec" and you will find one.

It’s an easy job as long as you rip and copy your media from your Blu-rays to your computer’s hard drive or even transfer them to your tablet or phone. An easy-to-use Blu-ray ripper is the key.
You can find some freeware like MakeMKV, but it also has some limit, like it can only help you to rip Blu-ray to MKV format, and it may not work well on Windows 8 or Mac Mavericks.
In this case, you can find a MakeMKV alternative tool like Pavtube Blu-ray ripper
i install xperia movies and i can see all bluray movies with best video and audio
