Wanna get a larger sd card for my hd2, i realise it a bit of a lottery whether i get a working one, question is..... do i absolutely have to do a hard reset to activate a new card or will it format the card just by re-booting the phone ? and...will a hard reset wipe all my info ????
D.
Yes, hard reset is needed. SD card is for WP7 just like internal memory, imagine that you cut a part of /Windows folder on your PC... it won't be able to work anymore. Also yes, hard reset will wipe all your info.

Hi
When I try to delete, copy or move a file with the file explorer, file explorer locks up. After a soft reset the file move, delete or copy has succeeded. This is the same for SD Card, Rom and Ram and has only just started.
Any suggestions before I perform a hard reset?
Cheers

mate,
this used to happen to me along with a couple of chaps in the forum. someone suggested that taking out the sd card and then doing a soft reset fixes up everything. worked but all that trouble... think it has something to do with the file explorer getting "confused" with reading the sd card (as someone said) but don't quote me. i finally did a hard reset and now everything is a-ok; even with the sd card inserted. must be one of those microsoft bugs...
cheers
Hi Robson
Thank you
Last night I performed a hard reset, installed most applications, and thought I would try deleting a file, once again file explorer hung.
I then performed another hard reset, and before I installed anything I tried to delete another file, again it hung.
I was just about to call orange and get a replacement, and I found your reply.
It now works if the SD Card is out. I will try to format the card again, and if that fails I will order a new Panasonic SD Card. My current card is a cheap Taiwan card.
Cheers

mate,
on the topic of sd cards; i do notice that sandisk isn't as good (no offense to those who love em); i use both panasonic and kingston. both of which, i've noticed, doesn't cause any file explorer hang ups. although after the hard reset my explorer app is working properly despite the sandisk sd card being inserted; perhaps the sd card you're using is indeed causing the hang ups. brand? so that we'll know what to avoid buying
cheers then
Hi
Its an Integral 128 MB SD Card www.integralmemory.com and its made in Taiwan

Hi everybody.
I strongly recommend u to use such SD: TRANSCEND, PRETEC, HAGIWARA. Nothing personal - I dont work in that coporations   , but IMHO...
Hi
If I soft reset with the SD card out then file sexplorer has no problems, but with it in duriong a soft reset any file operations causes the system to hang.
I just tried this with a 128MB pretec SD Card, Pansonic 8MB SD Card and a 128MB MMC and they all gave the same results, that if I soft reset wit h a card inserterd then file explorer hangs on any file operation.
I can live with this as I dont soft reset very often, and when I do I will simply pop the card out first.
Cheers

Hi,
I've had a 1GB SD card in my wizard for months with no problems at all. I had some software installed on the card and the other day I wanted to free up some space so I uninstalled the apps that were on the card (SPB time, SPB shell and Brain school)...Since then, my phone does not recognise the SD card. There are no errors or anything it just doesn't register that the card is there. I've done a factory reset but this has not helped.
I'm running WM5 with a moleski updated ROM that has been on the phone probably a year or so
Any ideas?
I guess the card must be knackered, I tried it in my camera and the camera wouldn't work either. weird how just removing software could kill the SD card...
Run the card in a card reader on a computer. There, you should be able to do a long format/bad sector search. This will tell you once and for all if it's dead. It's the only way to be sure.
i have exactly the same problem and its happened twice now. the data is fine on the card just wm5 doesnt recognise its existence any more... if you wipe your phone and start again it pops back to life
I've tried a factory reset (hold the four buttons then press send) but this hasn't fixed the problem....I need to buy a card reader I guess to check for sure
With no reason my SD card don't appear anymore in the file explorer, but i'm able, thru usb, to transfer files from pc to the card. Done soft reset, hard reset and the same...
it happens with the 2 sd cards i have...
does anyone know why? thanks in advance for any help

I had major problems writing to my sd card in ubuntu. Althought this isn't explicitly linked, i found that there was a problem with the file system on the card (hence why ubuntu would only mount it read only) so it might be worth running a file check on the sd card and see if that helps
Try doing a hard reset. It should fix the problem.
Hi everyone,
Just a thought IF i want to format my SD card that came with my Tmobile HD2 then do a factory reset. WOULD all the original apps will be install in the SD card after i formatted? or let says IF i buy a new SD card and insert into SD card slot and do a factory reset, WOULD all programs including system files automatic be in it?
Thanks,
Drew
Yes it will delete all if you do a factory reset.
Hi and thanks
I realize all apps will be wipe after the hard reset what i means is if i upgrade my sd card, do i need to copy all the system files from original card to a new card? or is there any? beside apps?

Yes you will indeed need to copy the files from the original sdcard to the new sdcard, a factory reset will not restore files that were on your sdcard
Thanks,
I got everything working on my new card

please help. i have installed WP7 on my HD2 but cant get to my sd card (photos, music etc.). anyone know what the problem is? thank you
What make is your SD card? Was it in the phone when you flashed WP7?
its a kingston 8gb sd card. and card wasnt been in phone whenever i flashed WP7.
wp7 was never designed to support ejectable memory like sd cards. Of course there is a internal (beacaus you have to open the back cover) sd card. So you have to insert the sd card at the first reboot or make a hard reset. wp7 will integrate the sd card to its memory. If you change the card, you have to do the same procedure.
you need to put SD card in BEFORE you flash it or plug in the SD card and do a hard reset
also copy everything of your SD card as windows will format it
to be clear
Installing Windows phone 7 WILL delete everything on that card so back it up before!!
thank you all guys. that was very helpful

turn off the device, hold down the buttons - vol up and vol down, then tap the power button, keep holding the vol up and down and you will get the a message to reset your phone. i believe its vol down to clear and vol down again once its finished.
The phone will reboot, and should install windows again, if it doesnt the go in to magldr and reflash the ROM
oh and keep the SD card in this time!
