Hi
When I try to delete, copy or move a file with the file explorer, file explorer locks up. After a soft reset the file move, delete or copy has succeeded. This is the same for SD Card, Rom and Ram and has only just started.
Any suggestions before I perform a hard reset?
Cheers

mate,
this used to happen to me along with a couple of chaps in the forum. someone suggested that taking out the sd card and then doing a soft reset fixes up everything. worked but all that trouble... think it has something to do with the file explorer getting "confused" with reading the sd card (as someone said) but don't quote me. i finally did a hard reset and now everything is a-ok; even with the sd card inserted. must be one of those microsoft bugs...
cheers
Hi Robson
Thank you
Last night I performed a hard reset, installed most applications, and thought I would try deleting a file, once again file explorer hung.
I then performed another hard reset, and before I installed anything I tried to delete another file, again it hung.
I was just about to call orange and get a replacement, and I found your reply.
It now works if the SD Card is out. I will try to format the card again, and if that fails I will order a new Panasonic SD Card. My current card is a cheap Taiwan card.
Cheers

mate,
on the topic of sd cards; i do notice that sandisk isn't as good (no offense to those who love em); i use both panasonic and kingston. both of which, i've noticed, doesn't cause any file explorer hang ups. although after the hard reset my explorer app is working properly despite the sandisk sd card being inserted; perhaps the sd card you're using is indeed causing the hang ups. brand? so that we'll know what to avoid buying
cheers then
Hi
Its an Integral 128 MB SD Card www.integralmemory.com and its made in Taiwan

Hi everybody.
I strongly recommend u to use such SD: TRANSCEND, PRETEC, HAGIWARA. Nothing personal - I dont work in that coporations   , but IMHO...
Hi
If I soft reset with the SD card out then file sexplorer has no problems, but with it in duriong a soft reset any file operations causes the system to hang.
I just tried this with a 128MB pretec SD Card, Pansonic 8MB SD Card and a 128MB MMC and they all gave the same results, that if I soft reset wit h a card inserterd then file explorer hangs on any file operation.
I can live with this as I dont soft reset very often, and when I do I will simply pop the card out first.
Cheers

Hey! I love the forum!
Anyway, about three days ago, my Wizard just decided to stop recognizing my MiniSD card. My computer can still recognize/read/write/etc. to the SD card, however.
Here is my Device Info:
Rom Version: 3.3.0.0 WWE
Rom Date: 11/10/06
Radio Version: 02.25.11
Protocol Version: 4.1.13.12
ExtROM Version: Faria V4.0
When I insert the SD card, the backlight comes on, so I know the Wizard knows it is there, but when I go to the Memory Settings, and I click on the Storage Card tab, it says it is not installed.
Thanks in advance!
Check in the File Explorer.
I have had the the Storage Card listed as Storage Card and another as Storage Card2 at the same time.
The Storage Card is a temporary folder and the real storage card is Storage Card2.
Delete Storage Card, reset and Storage Card2 becomes Storage Card and all should be well.
DO CHECK THE CONTENTS OF EACH STORAGE CARD FOLDER IF THIS HAS HAPPENED AND DELETE THE RIGHT ONE.
If this is not the case, sorry can't offer any other answer.
Thanks for the reply, unfortunately that did not work.
This is really confusing me now.
As a last resort, you could format the card, then remove the partition and let the phone try to format the card. Of course, you would loose everything in your card. I had a problem with the phone not recognizing a card that I formatted with my laptop. But there differences for your situation is that your card was working and when you stick the card in, the phone gives some indication that it knows the card is in there. For me, the phone gave no indication that a card was inserted. Like I said, this would be a last resort.
That's what my 1gb sandisk did. one day it just disappeared. if I popped it in my lappy, it read it fine. So I copied the contentd to the desktop, reformated and copied back, life was back to normal.
Thanks for the help! Reformatting did the trick

Reformatting didn't work for me...
Hi folks... i have the same issue described above... and i did reformat my sd... but it stil doesn't work... i tried to format with fat32 and fat.... no one solved the problem. My laptop can read the card without problems... but my wizard... no signal. Any help? thanks
Should be formatted as FAT, not FAT32.
Do a scan-disk on the card and look for bad sectors. Try to repair or disable the bad sectors, and you'll get some more time on that SD card, but once the sectors start going bad, your SD card's days are numbered, and it's a small number.
Nothing yet...
Thanks for the tips, but it's stil not working... i flashed a WM5 ROM, and it recognized my microSD again... but a few soft resets later... and it's gone. Now i'm using AMP v.2, i flashed it just today, and there is no signal of any Memory card instaled... (by the way, i did format it into fat32 and made a scandisk...) Any other idea? Thanks in advance.
Did you try to let the phone format the card? When I let my laptop format the card, I could not read it in my phone. When I formatted the card in my phone, then I couldn't read it on my laptop. Weird, but true.
A way to make it work...
Well... i think i found a way to make my wizard see the SD card... but it's deffinitely not a pleasant way... Every time i hard reset my wizard, it comes back recognizing my SD... but then i have to instal everything again... About the last topic, i'm not an expert here... how can i format my sd from the pda? (hum... i think i already said... but there goes again: I'm using a G4 with AMPv.2) Thanks one more time...
Update...
A couple of soft resets... and the SD is gone again...
My wizard won't read the SD either. I formatted, disk checked and still nothing..
Whats funny is that on WM5 it worked great, once i upgraded to WM6.1,,, crapped out.
any suggestions?
thanks
Big problem...
Hello guys! It looks like sd loss is a real problem even with other devices... i did read a lot of pages about this issue, but til now i didn't find any solution that worked for me. Anyway, here goes some ideas, if it works for someone, please tell me!
Make a registry change: hklm>>>drivers>>>SDclass>>>disablepowermanagement: 0. (change this for 1, soft reset and try again...)
Any other idea? please guys, I have to make it work! My wizard is almost useless without the SD card... Thanks.
How to format it in the phone? I even cannot find a SD. Shall I start Wizard or what?
Hello everybody, I'm new here and I'm having a strange problem with my Hermes.
Sometime ago I downloaded the slide2unlock cab and installed it. Then I removed it for some reason. Last week I inserted my sd in the computer and it asked me to format the card. There was no way to get into the sd and I lost all my data.
Now, after having formatted my sd, the device is continually hanging and when I put it in standby it always turns on automatically. Most of the times it also doesn't recognize the sd card and I have to reboot.
Can anyone help me, please?
Did you reformat the sd card FAT32? Its the preferred format but they seem to come formatted FAT by default.
Check to see if the sd card is still being detected by the PC, if it isn't then its time to get a new sd card.
Had you installed any apps on the sd card that might be causing problems.
Not from the sd card but I have had apps that, though I'd installed to the sd card, had installed the exe file onto my Hermes and a heap of data files onto the card.
Otherwise, might be time for a Hard reset...
Tanks for the fast answer. The sd card is formatted to FAT (not FAT32) and now is working in the computer.
Regarding programs installed in the sd, the problem could be exactly the slide2unlock, but I've removed it sometimes ago.
Only other thing to do wopuld be to do a hard reset. !st backup up your contacts to the sd card with spb backup(has a demo of 5 backup/re-installs). Needs to registered but you can at least backup contacts and messages then re-install after HR.
Hard reset should fix all your problems.
Cheers...
Hello,
I had to do a HardReset.
After that, I can not delete/copy a file from/to the StorageCard.
It looks as if the card ist read/write-protected.
But where can I change this?
I can start a own program from the card,
and this program can write to the card.
But I can not start a cab-file from the card.
After the HardReset I did a backup with sk-tools,
everything looks fine and I can use the installed programs.
Thanks for help

this is not the case with the 2gb memory stick?
any ideas? i cant even format it!
Hi.. Not sure if it will help but you coud try applying the SD Card Capacity Fix.... Your find it on the Hotfix Post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=604634

After several HardResets my HD2 was nice to me.
The problem came up with the installation of
Touch-Keyboard-Keypad.CAB (freeware)
There must be a READ/Write-protection somewhere
in the registry.

I had major problems writing to my sd card in ubuntu. Althought this isn't explicitly linked, i found that there was a problem with the file system on the card (hence why ubuntu would only mount it read only) so it might be worth running a file check on the sd card and see if that helps
Try doing a hard reset. It should fix the problem.
Help suddenly I cannot see my memory card and most of my apps on on it.

same problem here... hmmmm.. please htc.. do something
try a soft reset.
are you on a VF uk phone?
Got the same problem last week.
I find out the memory card got corrupted. dont know why.
XP didnt seen the card in reader at all.
Vista helped me to format the card, but i lost all my data, as i have to do full format to get the card live again.
Yes tried that. Yes on Vodafone but using laurentius26's Ultimate Rom which I believe is based on a T-Moile rom. I have been using this for some months without issue.
How do you format a memory card that can't be seen?
when you open file explorer can you see it there
or has it dissapeared from that too?
File Explorer will not open so soft reset now it opens but whole startup process now quite slow.Storage card indicated ...tap on it get inbox .mstxxx so email I guess and Temp folder containing cookies, History and temp int files. Thats my lot.
This is a common problem. Try removing the memory card, soft resetting then delete the folder "Storage Card" or "Storage Card2" if it exists. Reset again and insert memory card.
This problem occurs when the storage card is mounted on a PC (Disk Drive mode) and an application such as email tries to write to it. Windows decides the folder (as the storage card is mounted as a folder) has been deleted, so re-creates it. When the memory card is unmounted from the PC, windows has to call it something other than "Storage Card" as that name has now been allocated to a folder.
If that is not the problem, put the card into a PC and see if it recognizes it. It might say "this card is not formatted" etc. in which case you need to reformat and lose all of the data on it
the_sikko is quite correct the same thing happened to me last week. I simply re-connected to the pc and deleted the newly created 'storage card' and that resolved my problem.
I did notice a folder called Storage card earlier on now after numerous resets it's gone. I have also reset back to factory settings. Each time I reinsert the card Windows Mobile Device centre shows me the memory card (although my phone indicates no sd card loaded etc.) but when I try to access it, it disappears!
Try increasing the timeout that allows your storage card to be detected when the device is booting or coming out from suspension.
These registry edits worked for me:
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]
“PNPUnloadDelay“=dword:8196
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]
“PNPWaitIODelay“=dword:8196
Also, you may want to disable the power management on your storage card with:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\SDMemory_Class]
“DisablePowerManagement“=dword:00000001
Hope this helps
Ok now I will have to learn wo to edit my registry
So without having to edit my registry I managed to grab the file that said Storage card but when I tried to delete (with the card still inserted) it I'm told Access is denied and I should check the card is not write -protected or currently in use. When I try to open it it simply disappears. If I try to delete it with the card removed I get Cannot delete "mxip_notify":There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use.
Any suggestions?
Could really do with some help here cos I'm well and truelly lost in terms of what my options are.

I literally just had this issue. I have two Kingston 4GB cards and one of them simply stopped working. I wasn't able to copy anything from the mSD card to my laptop, so have simply formatted the card and now it no longer shows up in Windows Explorer (Windows 7).
Now i'm using the other card. I can tell by the way this card is responding in the HD2 that the other card became corrupt. I have just ordered two Transcend 8GB mSD cards from eBay for about £30.
I downloaded a tiny piece of software which is supposed to bypass Windows Explorer limitations and force format SD cards...but it won't work because the card just doesn't show to the laptop.
Well in the end I put the SD card into the card slot of a PC and after a very very long time I managed to format the card. All is well now.
my card got corrupted too
maybe i know the answer..
sorry for my bad english..
I've the same problem. But searching from all forums, finally i get the answer. just find n download EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Proffessional 4.3.6 (for 5 MB). Insert the mmc in card reader, use this software to recovery all the missing file (choose Complete Recovery Option). After recovery process done, use software LLFTool (for 600kb, just doing some browsing at google) to Low Level Format the mmc (this LLFTool can recognize the mmc). After all done, Windows can recognize again the mmc at windows explorer. Just right click and choose quick format (format FAT32). Done.
Had to Hard Reset
Just to add my two pennies worth.
None of the above worked for me. In the end I had to Hard Reset. Harrumph!
