I've been trying to root this Droid 2 all day now using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782556
Watched the video as many times as I need to.
I've rooted phones before so I'm not sure what the problem is here.
It just hangs at the finding device screen or if it does find the device, it fails to root, then can't find the device again.
I've tried two different root tools on two different PCs, USB debugging on, PC mode on for the 1 click and charge only for the other like it says.
No luck.
Running stock 2.3.3.
try Pete's Motorola Root Tools
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258599
old root tools don't work with gingerbread
I ended up getting it, the last 48 hours, I've learned a lot coming from a DINC.
I had to learn how to sbf, how to use stock recovery, all from trial and error haha.

Z4root currently doesn't work for 2.3.3 unless it's been updated for it.

No NAND unlock yet, but now we don't need to fiddle with SD cards and curse at the phone/wall/ceiling for hours while trying to get root on the stubborn Incredibles. Thank you so much Unrevoked!
unrevoked 3
How do I use unrevoked 3? Does it let you tether? I need step by step instructions. It's not like the first one that you do thru the phone so I'm clueless. Help someone.
its easy just download it and extract... find the html file and intall the drivers from it then run the EXE and it does everything
I spent a lot of time on this rooting thing and eventually gave up. And then I saw the recent message regarding the release of Unrevoked v3.0. I installed it and it worked perfectly! I am grateful to finally have root! I would like to thank you guys so much for your time and effort !
How???
how do you find and install the html file??
Edit: never mind i got it

Just read their tweet gobto their website and download their program(if u go read their tweet it will direct u to their website and download the easy root for your OS) make sure that there are no programs interfering with your usb port.) Good luck its really easy.

I was in the middle of unrevoked 3 and it said on on my computer waiting for hboot. I also couldn't find the hboot option on my phone recovery menus. What should I do ?

I just used this for my Droid Incredible on Mac OS... worked very very easily, with no hassle whatsoever. Thumbs up to unrevoked.
4G Speeds in EVO Still Available Under Unrevoked3?
Does the root that's provided through Unrevoked3 impact the 4G connectivity on the Evo? I know that was an issue with other root methods.
Also, is there a way to safely revert back to a 'stock' build (i.e., non-root) in case there are unforeseen issues with Unrevoked3? Thanks, folks!
Wifi Tether
I just used the Unrevoked3 root/reflash it worked great! 30 seconds had the phone done!..I did a nandroid backup and downloaded Titanium Backup, Titanium works great also! now, I download Wireless Tether from the market, installed and ran the app, it asked for su permission and was granted, the app was running, I turned wifi "on" on the laptop and it found AndroidTether ssid, i connected, all I get is a full signal with an yellow exclamation, no internet access! what am I doing wrong? I am using windows 7 Ultimate version.
You need a different kernel to run the app "wifi tether". You can get a custom kernel by downloading a rom like Sky Raider.
Got it working..., thank you!

Can't get Unrevoked 3 to work
I get beyond installing the driver and I get to a recovery screen but....an Adobe Flash window pops up on the computer indicating the script is running slow do I want to stop and I say no. About this time, Unrevoked shoots a message that it has stopped communicating with the phone and I should start over.
Although this is a great method, it would be great if someone would list the steps that this process is using so that maybe from where I lost communications, I can just finish. Or tell me what to do to get the Flash error message to stop coming up.
Thanks for any help!
I just got easy root on my x 2.2, and it said rooted and when I reboot and come back to easyroot, I get the I agree screen. Is their a process that is this easy on a mac? Or am I just missing something lol.

Hey,
My girlfriend has a Motorla Defy.
When she got it, i wanted to update it from 2.1 to at least 2.2 so foolish me, I went with the idea to see how the Stock 2.2.2 looks like, if it is good she can keep it, and just root it.
Well its not that nice, and now I can not root her phone.
I tried Z4. I tried SuperOneclick (more than one version ) I had usb debugging on, and I tried a manual method i found here on the forums (it basically contained adb usage, as of pushing the files, and then changing the permissions of the exploit and running it)
And now I am out of ideas, as I use Samsung Galaxy didnt think about problems with flashing another rom (anything can be done with Odin).
I want to put miui on her phone, but i dont see it possible without root.
Her software versions are :
system version
version.34.164.3.MB525.Retail.en.FR
model number:
MB525
Firmware version:
2.2.2
Baseband version:
EPU93_U_00.59.00
Kernel version:
[email protected]#1
BPflex version:
UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA03A.0R
APflex version:
GAS_EMEA_USAJRDNFRYORTFR_P014
Build number:
3.4.2-164
I think motorola patched the rageagainstthecage exploit in that update. =/
Any idea how to get rid of this rom, where i can use the exploit?
Yea, I can not downgrade, since it was an official upgrade, probably not downgradable....
Any any any idea please?
Thank you in advance to you guys.
You can try gingerbreak or flash clockwork recovery through fastboot

Did you enabled "debug usb" mode?
You could reflash the rom and try to root afterwards. personaly i never had problems with rooting my defy.

Did you use a "portal mode":

Make sure you DO NOT mount your SD card.
Yep

To be honest, I don't remember. But I suppose not mounting the SD card is to make it possible to copy the exploit on the phone. That I could do.
I wish my girlfriend still would be here. (We live on different continents...)
She is kinda lazy for these things, but ill make her try a few things out.
The portal mode -you referred to -, is the charge only mode, i suppose.
Maybe i will try to extract the newer exploit from SuperOneClick, and just do what i have to manually.....
This thing is very annoying. =/
i updated to 2.2.2,i found i had to use superoneclick twice and on the second time it rooted

The "portal mode" is on the top of list (then connected USB, there 4 items - portal mode; charging; SD mount; none (if I remembered correct))

when I updated to 2.2.2, first I tried z4root - that didn't work. Then I tried SOC 1.9.1, it rooted OK, but failed on "not marked apps". After day or two there was v 1.9.5 and this do a job on "not market apps"
For me

For me SOC failed every version of it i tried. Z4 was trying but then exited, and nothing happened. Then I went on with pushing the files and the exploit onto the phone, and running the exploit by hand. Well, I didnt get root shell back there either, so I couldnt proceed. That is when I decided to open this topic.
I believe SuperOneClick has two exploits in it, this psneuter, and a certain 'rageagainstthecage'.
Did you try this one?
I used

Today My friend bought a Motorola (with Chinese rom) and updated on the same way i did with my girlfriends mobile. Then I ran the SuperOneClick for him, and it did the trick for first try....... It is Weiiiird.
i've the same version and the same problem with rooting!! I'm triyng to root it from many hours with a lot of methods but nothing.
Has anyone rooot it and HOW?
Ok,
I feel like a total noob. I'm a droid incredible owner and could tell you everything about rooting and modding an Incredible. My wife owns a D2. Since our counteract is nearing the end, I would like to root it for her. This way if I mess it up, or more likely, she messes it up, she can upgrade.
I have done some reading, but HTC and Moto are VERY different. I need a few pointers before I begin. I've read about SBF. I don't even know what that is. So I'm a total noob when it comes to Moto.
I can tell you with my Dinc, I was able to download unrevoked on my Mac, and it basically did the work for me. It took about 5 minutes, and boom it was rooted. I have CWR installed and can flash any Rom/Kernel I want. Same thing on my Nook color. Been back and forth with CM7 and MIUI for it.
Basically, I need a beginners guide to rooting the D2, with all the vocab defined for me. Can anyone spell it out for me or point me in the right direction? I really just want to give her Titanium backup and wireless tether for her work iPad.
It is updated with the latest Gingerbread OTA, and I know with the Dinc, if you weren't rooted with S-off before the OTA, it is now impossible to Root it. From what I read, that doesn't appear to be the case with the D2
I use a older 1click root app called z4root which works fine on froyo. If shes on gingerbread theres a newer app called superoneclick, which can currently be found on xda's home page. Not sure how it works exactly but it does work for the d2. Good luck hope this helps.

I'll have to check it out. She is on Gingerbread. Does z4root give you permanent root? Or does it revert back after a reboot? I'm curious if superoneclick is the same.
Here is the best way to root the phone, I've used it at least 15 times by now.

No need to go through the headache of SBFing just to root if he's on a clean install of Ginger Bread. On top of that he will have to set the phone up again and re-install all the old apps. That said, the OP may want to read up on SBFing just so he's clear on how it works.
Just google Droid 3 one click root and browse the rootzwiki result. I'd link it but I don't have enough posts yet.
Pete's Tools is literally as easy as it gets. Download the program, hook your phone to the PC though USB, select charge only, run the program, then click root. It literally is a one-click root.

IIRC, you don't need to SBF while doing this method. Only if you're downgrading to 2.3.2. Otherwise ADB doesn't care if you're clean or not.
SBFing was the first thing it mentioned on that link so I was thinking it was a necessary part of that method. Just didn't want the OP to have to mess with that unnecessarily.

I have been trying to root a Sidekick 4G for two days now. But the only process that I could find to do it that was currently updated was SuperOneClick. I am posting this to hopefully help others that might be stuck somewhere along the process because in my extensive searches, I have found so many people that were stuck at the same places I was, but noone seemed to have any answers other than re-install the drivers. Well I installed and re-installed the drivers about 10 times; downloading them from various websites.
Problems that I had:
- My Samsung drivers would install part of the way or not all all
Finally, what worked for me was to DL KIES from the Samsung Website. I installed KIES and let it fix the drivers for me! I was then able to get past the 2nd line in SuperOneClick where it was waiting for ADB but now...
- I was getting stuck at Step 5 in SuperOneClick and sometimes at step 7
What I found was that my virus software (Bitdefender) was deleting the exploits as soon as I started the root process! Even though I thought that I had shut down Bitdefender (in MSCONFIG) when I went back into MSCONFIG to check I found that Bitdefender was turning itself back on!
I found that there was a way in the settings within BD to turn off the autovirus scan for a short period of time. Once I had it all turned off, I unzipped SOC again (because BD apparently couldn't see the zipped up files and never deleted those). I reran SuperOneClick, then it finally worked!!!
Hopefully this helps someone from spending the hours & hours that I did trying to find the solution.
SuperOneClick stuck on step 5 for me too.

This worked for me. Couldn't have been easier.
Always used SuperOneClick to root my ML2.
Please, check this items:
- User Debugging Mode
- Motorola Flash Interface (on Device manager of your computer), if not show this, will not work well.
With your device manager opened, click on Root button and check if your cell loses connection when stopped at chmod command.
The SuperoneClick uses the zergrush tool and seems like a exploit by anti-spyware softwares. Make sure that you disable when runs the SuperOneClick.
