[Q] Reason for tethering problems, and national roaming. - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

I know that tethering is not working in the GB custom roms, but why? Is it hard to get it to work or do devs just don't find it necessary? I use tether app from market and it is working fine, I'm just curious.
Does someone know why there is no national roaming on Oxygen and MIUI? I used to have Oxygen and liked it, but I cannot have it since they removed it. It would be really nice if they could ad it to custom roms. CM7 have it and it is a really good rom but I would like to try different ones.

Stockwell said he is going to test tethering in his next MIUI release. Wait for it.
About roaming, I don't know about that.

Im still on Ivan's Official...am I using an outdated ROM?

All I really want is the fastest, most stable ROM available. Are there better options? It needs to be able to tether, too; I'm using PdaNet right now and it's working flawlessly.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, opinions and advice.
You're using as up-to-date software as thousands and thousands of non-rooted Eris owners. The *core* of the OS, Android 2.1, is current. Sure, you can get Android 2.2 on your phone but it's not really ready for prime-time yet.

Ya, just flash Zanfurs OC kernel if you want to have more accurate settings and you should be good. And by the way, PDAnet lets you tether with any rom, as far as actually tethering without pdanet then the ivan rom should do the trick though I never tried it myself.

I use this configuration EXACTLY.
I also use wifi tethering a lot around the house for my gf's laptop.
I have gone to EVERY popular ROM out there for at least a couple of days. I keep going back to SenseUI if a ROM doesn't have it, and I keep coming back to Ivan's when I get to SenseUI. EvilEris was the second longest ROM I ever had, almost a month. Was finished with Sense crashing, and the De-Odex'd stuff (no room in the /data/ area, phone kept running out of memory, and no I don't like A2SD).
Ivan's and PDANet ftw.
You can try tnoobs it is a stock ROM, a revamp of plainjane. It has the perks and is quick.

- +1 - Tried them all, including the Froyo scene - very buggy! Ivan's is the standard of reliability and reasonable speed. I use PdaNet and Wireless. The only other ROMs that seems to be as stable and add an effective Apps2SD is Fresh 3.0 and XTR-Sense 3.03.

Updated Wireless Tether file

Just released about a few hours ago - I have it working just fine
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
wireless_tether 2.0.5-pre3
Mule
Thanks to the developer Harald.Mue for his hard work - donate if you like
You do need root for this to work
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/source/list
looks like only changes are multilingual support and desire compatibility enhancements
still best app there is
yeah small updates, i think i'll keep my current version since its not broken.
Hopefully they make a version to support Froyo. I know it's kinda redundent but I like the interface of wireless tether, and the fact that I can use internet on the phone while i'm tethered, on froyo it locks the phone out of using internet when wifi tether is on.
i still can't get the old wifi tether app to work with my evo. maybe i can get this new version to work
Im with u on this..

oops nevermind.. i read the "do" as "dont" slow morning and havent had my coffee yet

Here's a link to the AT&T Inspire forum with the APN settings that allows the Inspire to tether using a basic data plan.

I don't know about changing the apn but you can flash CM6 or CM7, those have wifi tethering built into them. It works fantastic and I use it multiple times a week. There are apps on the android market that will do it, but the built in apps with CM6/7 are the best.

The OP has installed the AT&T Froyo update and therefore he is stuck and cannot root his Aria, thus the reason for his post and question.
being that 2.2 is unrootable, is that a permanent issue or is that something that someone is working to break thorugh?

This is a issue with several of the HTC devices, not just the Aria, so there are groups that are looking for a break through.

working wifi-calling on froyo 2.2.1 HTC Dream G1

I made it work wifi-calling on rom Froyo by Laszlo 2.2.1 and work
I leave the update for that use HTC Dream G1 T-mobile U.S with Froyo by Laszlo 2.2.1
Warning I am not responsible if this affects your current rom or otherwise cause damage to your phone
for those who have the rom Froyo by Laszlo 2.2.1 reboot in recovery make a backup and flashing the Htc-G1-wifi-calling-for-froyo-2.2.1-signed.zip
to try another rom 2.2.1 delete biuld.prop from the Htc-G1-wifi-calling-for-froyo-2.2.1-signed and replace it with the rom build.prop to try and add this to the build.prop

Since laszlo is based on cm6 would this also work on a cm6 ROM? I am running the last cm6 nightly which I like a lot.

might work would only be build.prop remove and replace it with the CM6 and add the necessary information to the rom build.prop CM6. and remember the wifi-calling is only for T-mobile user
Wow, thanks a million! I was desperate to get wifi calling on my G1 because I live in a half-basement apartment, so my signal is pretty much useless. I switched to Froyo by Lazlo from straight CM6 because the latter was being laggy anyway. That took some doing, but once I got that all straightened out, I flashed your zip, opened up the app, and flipped the switch. Bam! Wifi calling!
I don't know who is behind building this, but thanks for pointing me to it and recommending Froyo/Lazlo. You made my night.

Testing this now. I hope this work. It will help me TONS!
This is the best thing to happen to my G1 since I put Lazso on it. You have done a Great Job with this !!!!!
I have used this all day long on 10 calls and everyone has said the calls are clear. Also it works great with my bluetooth!!!!
I am sending this link to everyone I know that has a G1.
NOTE: if this thread was in the developement it would get alot more exposure!!!
thanks
Thank you for this. Works almost perfectly, but theres one problem.
After flashing this it causes roaming and 3g not to work.
I go to wireless settings>mobile networks>Network operators
Then get error searching for network.
Flashing laszlo 5.2 fixes the problem, but then wifi calling doesnt work.
Can someone help me? I really want wifi calling and being able to search for networks to work.
Anyone else get this to work with other roms? It causes the wifi to stop working on any other rom besides laszlo.

Kinda offical ICS MIUIv4

Just to let the devs know miuiandroid have released their version of Miui V4

Its not official, its made by a user. -?-
They tweeted it out, we also won to get ICS soon.
This might turn out to be very official.
Testing the rom now, will give initial impressions soon

Not the main common user thought,Andy Thomson is an active Dev on miui, well known for his much appreciated extended settings,etc...thanks to Roughavoc that i'm downloading now.
ROM - doesnt detect external SD card
EDIT: RAM is 180MB in use
browser seems same as others
The music app is to die for
Everything else so far seems same as other MIUIv4 builds

Excuse me but what do you mean by RIL?
RIL is fixed,edge,3g,H are displayed but i can't turn wifi on...it's stucked on "turning wifi on" and in wifi advanced settings it says MAc adress:unavailable and same for IP adress. In about phone>status it's only MAC adress that is unknown...just me?
Got mil...mean wifi Roughavoc?
EDIT:Good ol' reboot did the trick, got wifi.
EDIT 2:I was pretty sure i've seen the edge E logo but know it stays at 3g with not a move from signal status bars...sorry.
Wifi works fine for me. I also have a wifi MAC address, reflash rom again?
Music app doesnt play any music for me btw? FC's every time with music on the internal SD card
Can't wait to try this ROM but it's still stuck at the good looking orange "MI". I'm impatient as hell atm.

Radio interface layer. Previous ports had issues with it. For ex. signal bars were allways full regardless of actual signal strength. It took phone forever to register on network etc.

Took me 3+ mins to first book up, thought it froze but it kicked in. also reboot, first boot will be laggy as hell
thanks for the info about RIL.
Im not going to carry on using this ROM, I need music and external SD card to work so im going to stop giving my feedback on the rom soon. So far I think its very smooth, cant talk about battery as only used it for an hour or so.
Doesnt have voodoo colour im guessing nor OC/UC either which is a shame but it isnt a custom kernel so I guess thats why

I'll have a look where the problem with the external SD actually is. Think, it could be fixed for now with an init.d script.
OC/UC, LiveOC,... provided since it uses Devil Kernel. Use NSTools to tweak it. For VC use Devil Kernel 1.1 with VC...
Edit: After coming from a clean JVT flash it booted, yay! First impression: Problem with incorrect signal strengh still persists. Music app is GODLIKE like roughavoc said. And yeah... Gonna test this tomorrow during school.
Edit2: External SD mounted in /mnt/emmc/ and /emmc/.
Edit3: Problems with root-permissions. Clearly, root is disabled in MIUI ROMs but even disabling and enabling it doesn't help...
Edit4: Reverting to CM9 since a superuser.zip on my SD refuses to get installed. Hey Andy, if you take a look in here: Nice work, if you take care of these bug you are going to release a monumental ROM!
Titanium ask for superuser upgrade from market to work.
Power off option from power menu doesn't seem to respond.
Can't access camera, got fc when swith from apn to cam.

Root is enabled in MIUI lol. This is what you have to do, open up the LBESEC/SuperUser app before you open anything that requires app. Enable the option "Allow applications to request ROOT". Then any future app that requires ROOT, will launch that popup and you say "Accept/Deny".
