I have recently formatted my laptop and re-installed everything from scratch. I now am unable to install xap files to my phone. every error i get seems to be something related to the connection or not detecting the phone. I have tried Toms xap installer and winco wxap assistant and neither work. I have zune 4.8 installed, as well as the windows phone 7 sdk and the windows phone 7 developer tools. I have the HTC HD2 running xboxmod/yuki mango rom, which has been updated to wp7.1. zune detects the phone and i am able to sync through zune, so i know that the device is installed and working correctly. I am thinking there may be an error in my install of either the wp7 sdk or the wp7 dev tools, but i am not sure how to check this.
The laptop has been updated from 2gb ram to 4gb, so i now have windows 7 professional 64 bit (i did have windows 7 pro 32bit before). hopefully one of the good people on xda will know how to fix this problem!

Installed it on my hd2 one of diverse versions of WP7 and downloaded a series of XAP files available. After a long time, I learned how to open ports of FireWire on Windows 7 (64 bit) and I could unlock my hd2. However I cannot install any software, always seems to be blocked again. I used the toms. xap installer, Windows Phone Device Manger and another one that comes in a pack (forgot the name). An important comment is that my phone is activated, I got the code in microsoft. Actually I can not install or there is any solution?
Sorry for my english
make sure Zune is synced
make sure that it is unlocked, you cant install XAPs at all unless its unlocked.
run the application deployer in admin mode, right click > run as admin
Do wat dazza9075 said and turn off the screen timeout so it doesn't lock while your installing stuff.. I've noticed that leaving the phone either in the market or music and videos helps while syncing..
Xap won't install for me without it being in the Sync Complete screen

Ive tried to figure this out myself for days now. I broke my laptop last week which was working fine deploying xaps, windows phone device manager working fine. etc, etc.
So I finally got a replacement laptop. Fresh install of the exact same windows 7 x86. Installed latest zune, Windows Phone Developer Tools 7.1, Windows Phone Device Manager, .NET 4.0, WP7MarketplacePC.
So now Windows Phone Device Manager wont open at all. No error messages just wont open. Which isnt a big deal.
Main problem is none of my xaps will install. Ive tried the one that comes with the marketplace program, Tom's xap isntaller and a few others. All error out. wp7deploy which is the one I normally used errors while its analyzing.
Ive tried different roms, Including ones I know worked with my other laptop.
This is really bothering me like crazy since my laptop broke after I flashed a new wp7 rom but before I deployed any of my xaps.
I must be missing something but WTF is it. ahhhh
Thanks
Seems like quite a few users do face problems with WPDM on Windows 7 - on any version, that is. Haven´t seen any solution for this, unfortunately.
Maybe deleting and re-installing WPDM will help, don´t know...
Thanks...
Got it working finally...
uninstalled WPDevTools 7.1.
Installed WPDev Tools 7.0 with october update.
Uninstalled WPDM.
Then synced with zune and all is good...
Thanks again. Problem might have been with the 7.1 WPDevTools since it was in beta. After I get all the xaps deployed while its working Im gonna reinstall WPDM and see if that works again.
I was unsure whether or not this post belonged in the Windows Phone forum, or the Windows 8. However, it just makes sense to me to put it here, so I did.
I downloaded and installed the Windows Phone SDK 7.1 Release Candidate (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=27153) because I have a (mango beta, ISV build 7712) Samsung Focus that has been developer-unlocked (InterOp-Unlock), and frequently sideload apps to it. Did it many many time in Windows 7 with no problems whatsoever. When the Developer Preview came out, I installed it on the same machine which I used to sideload apps from. I also installed the regular things, like Zune software (4.8). Now, whenever I open XapDeploy.exe (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v7.1\Tools\XAP Deployment) , I get this error message:
Exception from HRESULT: 0x89721800
I have tried to work my Bing magic to no avail. I have tried many of the solutions found on forums online to fix this, but to no avail. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, and repaired the Windows Phone SDK 7.1 Release Candidate with no fruition. Does this work in Windows 8 at all? If yes, then how can I fix my problem. If no, are there other XAP deployers that *do* work in Windows 8? Please help!!
Same error... I've to switch to Windows 7 to deploy .xap.

Try to use XAPDeployX-V0.9
you can find on the internet
That's great work!!
Yeah, that one didn't work either. Funnily enough, I got the same error, just in a different message.
"Error: Unable to start. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x89721800)"
Anyone??? Please??
That was using XAPDeployX by the way. I have tried a couple of other ones, but they didn't work. Does anyone have a clue???
I've tried about 4 different ones. I think its because they all rely on the SDK to be working. So I'm now partitioning my drive and getting XP on here so I don't have to use my old computer. Lol.
MultiXapInstall v1.1 work for me
I tried that too, and when I tried to deploy, it just crashed and quit with no error. Anyone have ANYTHING???
Hey there,
I found a solution for the MTP-Driver issue under Windows 7 N Edition.
A few days ago I bought a new SSD Drive for my Desktop.
So i decided to install a fully new Windows on it, cause my windows 7 x64 was about 4 years in use now and doesnt worked reliable.
I decided to give Windows 7 N Version a try, cause it comes without some futures i thought i would not need.
ATM I use this KF First Aide with my KFHD 7
Installation of the ADB Driver worked without a problem, but i still got the yellow triangle on MTP Driver.
Tried then to install the driver manually using windows update. it didnt find a driver for MTP.
Tried to install the MTP device manualy selecting MTP Device in the "all devices" list (Standard MTP Device).
But this didnt work either.
After hours of searching i found a thread that led me to this :
As promised by Microsoft the N Version comes WITHOUT the Windows Media Player.
But as it seams the Windows Media Player contains the MTP Driver.
For god sake microsoft provides a pack to install it manually Media Feature Pack für Windows 7 N
This works of course only with original Windows as u have to pass a Genuine Verification to download it.
After installing the pack. The windows update found 2 other updates. i got them too and restarted my system. Now the triangle is gone. And my KFHD is recognised as Portable Device and everything works fine.
Dunno weather it will work with other Windows 7 Versions.

This is just ridiculous..
I have Windows 8.1 N Pro installed and can't use either, because it is missing the MTP driver. The fact that i have to install the Media Feature Pack to use a fundamental feature of my PC is just F***** UP! It is just Microsoft's way of giving the finger to the EU, and it makes the N-version completely useless.
But i refuse to install Windows Media Player and all that other crap just to use my Nexus 5 with my new laptop. If i have to write to the EU to try and make them force Microsoft to make the driver available as a standalone install, i will. This is just principally wrong of Microsoft, but really not surprising.
If people would just boycot Microsoft they might learn. But that will never happen, unfortunately..

no driver worked......i try clean install of windows 7 and use my driver cd but,,there is no sound
So you formatted again and did another install of Windows 7, and it still doesn't show up? Is it onboard audio? Check the BIOS to ensure it's enabled.
Google brings up a lot of results, have you tried looking at them? What does Device Manager show?
If it still doesn't work, the sound card/motherboard if onboard might be dead.
I can't count on two hands how many people, including myself had this upgrade problem. Always audio or video.
Firstly, I'd check to see on the notebook/pc manufacturer website if they have Windows 10 drivers for your model. That's the best place to start.
Some older drivers are getting automatically updated through Windows Update. It seems Microsoft has encouraged some key driver updates. E.g. Intel integrated graphics.
Lastly, uninstall the driver, reboot your computer, now, install the driver again under compatibility mode for the version of Windows you have.
For audio, compatibility mode worked. Get this. My notebook came with Windows 7. The Windows 7 driver works (after about 20 attempts) but the Windows 8 driver doesn't. My understanding is that Windows 8 drivers are a bit more compatible with 10 than 7. But the 7 driver actually worked better.
Let us know how you get on.
