When I write a long sms (over 3 sms), the stock app converts the sms to mms. Is there a fix/mod?
Its how it is. Issue has been posted to Google since long days and there is no fix. However u can try a third party app called "Go SMS Pro"
Link: I recommend you to use GO SMS Pro v 3.72.
Visit the links from your android phone.
GO SMS Pro v 3.72 ( http://market.android.com/search?q=pname:com.jb.gosms )
U can send how much ever part message in a single message without it being converted to MMS. I had sent 30 messages in 1 using this app. Also there are tons of other features.
I try Go SMS Pro and Handcent SMS and Pansi SMS. But to me the most beautiful the stock app
I agree with jebiga... is there any solution that fixes this issue with stock sms?
stock sms is fine except this one thing...
Haha jebiga...hrvatska

Yes I completely agree that stock SMS app looks a beauty and sleek. But you will later get used to third party app as you use them. As far as I know, there is no fix for stock app.

The stock messaging app is pretty crappy to be honest. I suggest you use Handcent instead. Remember to turn off the notifications in the stock messaging app so you won't get double notified

Can you still receive and send sms/ text after you deleted mms.apk
try to freeze that apk with titanium backup and see if you can still send\receive SMS
the freezing option prevent the system from using the file without the risk of deleting it

..no if I'm right the sms functionality is included in the mms.apk.
You will have to install another sms app to receive/send sms again.

Is that mean I will not be able to receive or send text without installing another sms app? I just want to make sure that I or someone else cannot use my phone to send and receive text/sms. I want to permanently disable this function all together.

I have no need for it. I am a talking kinda guy and not much a texting kind
I cannot figure out how/why on my wife's S4, when using chompSMS and having Quick Reply enabled, she gets a text, the Quick Reply window comes up, but takes her out of where she is and opens chompSMS behind the Quick Reply window. Even if I use the Quick Reply window to respond, it still takes me to the chompSMS app. I checked all settings and I am sure they are the same as my Galaxy Note and chompSMS performs fine on my Note. What am I missing here?
Thanks,
MB
You should use go SMS pro. Or SMS pop up for stock messaging app.

I dont use chomp sms but I do use textra sms which is an app in the playstore which was created by the same developers who made chomp sms and it doesnt have this problem. I highly recommend checking it out.
Chomp sms is always having problems like this. I second the suggestion to use go sms pro.

@op you should try out textra like everyone said. The MMS on it is superb
I'm currently using ChompSMS with my GS4 and have not come across this issue. Maybe try un-installing and re-installing the app to see if it fixes the issue? Maybe e-mail Chomp for support as well?

I have not had any issues with chompSMS to this point. I am gonna try the uninstall/install thing and see if that works. If I cannot get the issue corrected, I am going with another SMS/MMS provider.

Any problems with textra and MMS? ChompSMS just fixed their MMS issues.
Thank you,

Does anyone know how to fix this? I have to switch to stock messenger to see the pic and then when I go back to chomp it will then show.

Try handcent SMS. I've had problems with chomp in the past and always came back to handcent. The devs are really good about fixing any issues.

Try Textra...it's made by the same people, and it's fast, fluid, and completely replaced my stock messaging app (I can freeze the stock app with no issues). I've had no issues with MMS in it, like I have with most other 3rd party SMS apps.
+1 for textra I use it as my daily SMS app. I was having problems with other 3rd party SMS apps I would take a picture but it would only send sideways it was stupid with textra it doesn't do that and its light so it makes it fast.

OK, so I'm trying out textra and have made it my default SMS. I'm not receiving notifications or the pop up. I'm getting them in the stock messaging though. Am I doing something wrong? Help is appreciated. Thanks.

It's a common problem w chomp i fixed it like so...begin by whining your application cache for chomp and stock messenger. ..
Go to your mobile settings and copy the mms settings or whatever...then input those to the chomp app...i also had to enable in the stock messenger "auto retrieve mms"....then in chomp disable that feature that says something like b preserve resolution"... Once all is done reboot and have someone send you a pic. It should work. Give it a few hours i knew mine wouldn't work right away but now it's golden.
No Textra Notification
This happened to me as well. I found that if I have any additional third party SMS apps besides Textra installed, then Textra will not notify me of a new message. Also check your stock messaging app and make sure notifications are turned off there as well.

I.tried all the suggestions and in the end nothing worked so I jumped ship to Sliding Messenger, which does fine with pics.

Lucky you, I've never gotten Sliding Messaging to fully work with MMS, no matter what combination of settings I've tried. It's the reason I jumped ship to Textra (although to be honest I've been using Hangouts for my SMS lately...the only features I'm really missing are the pop-up replies and dark theme).

Have you tried 8sms? You can raise the cap in there to 500.
Whatsapp....the internet usage is so low. On average, statistics show that you'll be able to send over 1 million 2kb messages on a 2gb data plan and unless you chat a lot, thats going to be nye impossibe to do.
