Hi, not a newbie (well almost). Had my Vega a while now, upgraded to Modaco r8 as soon as I got it and its been fine. But for the last week, when web browsing, if I don't click a link or otherwise use the connection for about 3 to 5 minutes, it won't connect through and says web page not available, even though the wifi icon at the top of the screen is there and on the wifi settings page it says I am connected. If I untick the "turn on wifi" and retick it the connection re-establishes.Have searched various things but can't anybody with the same problem. Anybody any ideas or solutions. Thanks in advance.
Hi there.
R8 is based from old firmware now (v1.08 i believe), if i remember correctly a stock firmware update did improve wifi. Not saying it should not be working, just might be time to consider upgrading your firmware to a newer base. I have not used froyo for a while now. Bar a few niggles, vegacomb is best. Honeycomb is just far better for tabs.
Sorry i could not help further.
Thanks for the reply ganjaman, if I flashed the modded stock rom, could I still use r8, as it all works (except the wireless, but as I said thats a recent thing). As from what I have read there are a few bugs with vegacomb still, so would want to wait till its virtually bug free
With a little bit of research, I've found the answer, yes I can. But if anyone knows of a different solution, please feel free to chime in!
No you cant. R8 is a full rom and will replace the modded stock files. If you want to stick with froyo, either use corvus sp1 rom or stock (from the advent website) with my add-on (link in my sig)
Last time i tried my add-on with the modded stock v1 it did not work. Not tried v2 thought.
I use vegacomb on a daily basis, and its fantastic. Your choice...
Good luck.
Cheers gangaman, I'll have a further read and see what I decide

Hey Guys,
I got to be Retarded, because i cannot seem to find where or how to update my firmware, reason being, i got Froyostone 3.1 running off of ChuckyROM. I have a 7.2Hastarin kernel and want to switch to a 7.6 because it fixes the premature flash issues but when i replace my zimage it fixes the flash, but doesnt allow me to have wifi connectivity.
PLEASE!!!...
i've been searching DAY and NIGHT for 1 week straight trying to figure this out and i HATE NOOB QUESTIONS, and this one is it, i really tried looking before i flooded the threads.
PLEASE ANYBODY HELP ME!!!
I suggest reading the "how to update your kernel and modules" page at the HTC-Linux.org wiki. Specifically the part about the modules.
Or you could try the Readme files included with all of Hastarin's kernel updates.
Yup, he has got a readme right inside along with the kernel.
3 steps

He is not asking about flashing a custom ROM, he's asking about changing Linux kernels for Android.
Hi guys, I was just about to flash my tab to gain some features and updates and I was about to use RomManager but couldn't find my model of tab on it.
So I started my search and came cross a number of threads that talk about flashing different parts of the firmware.
e.g. making voice calls (I'd love this but i'm with optus australia and they block... )
A kernel flash ..... sounds nice
a filesystem change
all of these sound great and I have been searching but I really don't know what is for general useage in the roms or what is specific to australian roms...
I just don't want to brik my rom....
any help
cheers
Are you willing to flash Euro ROM? I thought JM6 (can't even remember if this was Euro ROM) was the greatest, then JME.
I'm using RichardTrip OC Kernel+ext4 on JMI now and few things are broken: call volume is very small when turning it up pass 75%. If you go back to 75% it's louder LoL. Others mention video laggy. Other also suggest to go all the way to Modaco ROM. Oh, bluetooth is broken as well (when I was running Modaco kernel+JME ROM but Paul mentioned something about because the old ROM so he suggested switch to newer ROM).
If you want to convert to ext4, use Modaco kernel Jan/2x date. It's very easy. Just READ the steps and have good Roto backup to your PC first.
So there you have it. YMMV

Interesting_ well it's at least a place to start got lot's of searching terms now
so are the roms realesed based on performance and features since this is Linux we're talking about, I imagine that a major part of the difference is back-end as opposed to my old HTC trinity which replaced functionality as opposed to doing too much back end enhancements - Is this right? is there a list of features each rom has ?
cheers
It's probably best you go check out the "Developers" section. When someone posts a new ROM they usually give you a list of features.
Try reading the entire thread so that you can see if others are happy with the ROM or what issues they're having. After this, you can make an informed decision on which ROM to flash.
which order do we flash in?

yes but what is the next step - what rom do i need? A system rom, A kernel a firmware fix - or rather, so I don't brick the phone what order should these be done in I think that is a better question
I have already rooted the phone , made some symlinks to add functionality so i'm kinda noobish to linux but I can catch on
cheers for any more help
I have also not yet flashed anything, because I don't have a need to as yet. But if I were to flash any ROM it would be the MoDaCo ROM with an OC'd kernel. That seems to be most peoples ROM of choice as it keeps the device looking as stock as possible with a good performance enhanced backend by changing the FS type to ext4 (which is faster than the current FS) and obviously a faster processor speed. CWM is also added for good measure. This allows you to flash certain zImages and have a more robust recovery menu.
Hope that helps.

Hello, I think this is one of my firsts post (maybe not the first) in XDA, althought I was registrered and following discussions several months ago now
I have a Liberty Tab (from Packard Bell) which is exactly the same that the ACER Iconia Tab A500.
I was happy enough with my tablet, nonetheless I missed some functions, so I decided to install a coocked rom on it.
I tried Thor Toshiba Thrive v1.1, which was nice (specially because it has many apps from different roms) but too many FC and very slow, at least in my case.
Then after reading other many posts, I decided to try Taboonay (installing first v1.1 and then 2.0) and it works really well, I like it. I just miss some games that were pre-installed on my tablet when I bought it (like Hero of Sparta, Lets Golf,...) but I will download from Aptoide, so no problem hehehe
FINALLY, my question is HOW to get the 3G USB modem (from Huawei) workingon this rom? does anyone know how to configure it?
I could do it with Thor Toshiba Thrive rom, and now I want to do the same in here... but for the moment no way.
I don't find the answer in the forum, neither can post in developpers forums yet... so pleeeeeease help!
Thanks in advance!!!
It's me again, and still not able of making the 3G USB modem work.
I cannot post into the Developpers forum, so please if anyone can, do it for me. I want to use my tablet with 3G again! hehehe
Thanks in advance!

Go hear, somewhere it was talking about 3g and the module to add.
it's the post I was reading, but it's toooooo long
I will try to find something again :-(
thanks in any case
Hi folks.
I've just been given this phone by a friend who has just upgraded to a Galaxy S2. I'm running a HTC Sensation myself but the handset looks like it should still be a useful upgrade for my daughter if I could get a custom ROM on it.
Almost all the DL links from the DEV sub-section seem down though. I did get Jazzman's ROM eventually but can anyone still playing with this device tell me if this is a good, bad or indifferent ROM to try. I don't want to waste time installing a bad'un.
I see from reading other threads that all custom ROMs seemed to have inherited a camera bug which could be partially fixed by reinstalling the default camera app (but no settings are ever saved). Did anyone ever get beyond that or did folks simply get newer phones and move on?
Lastly, if anyone still has a few of the old ROMS DL'd on their computer (Artos' anyone??) and could upload them somewhere for me and others to get access again, then that would be great.
Hoping someone can help. It's definitely too good to be binning it without trying something.....

Hey Crommy, did you upgrade to the latest stock rom? That really soves most of the issues with the device and is quite decent by itself.

Hi everyone.
I've been spending a lot of time now searching the forums and google for answers regarding a problem I am experiencing with the Pixeldroid Android 4.2.2 NAND ROM. In case you are wondering I'm really bad at all this and in case I have to reflash or something like that I would be glad if it's possible to explain to me in detail what I have to do
So. I installed the ROM via magldr and clockwork mod, and to my suprise (cynanogen 10.1 jellybean 4.2 didn't work out for me) the OS booted and everything seemed to be ok. However when I wanted to check out the app store, I wasn't able to turn on the internet. I've seen people having issues where a network simply doesn't appear on their list, but I can't ENABLE WiFi connection! The slider that says on/off is greyed out and I can't interact with it in any way.
If there is any additional information needed to solve my issue I'll be happy to provide it. Keep in mind that I am very new to all of this and that I am still learning
