Radio Issue - Lost Signal - Nexus S General

Hi Everyone,
In dire need of some help/advice...
I flashed the KF1 radio for my I9020a and lost 3G signal. It would connect on Edge sometimes but very infrequently. Several XDA members told me to try flashing any other radio with fastboot. I tried and still have no signal. Brainmaster told me to flash a radio that previously worked, pull the battery, reboot and wait for a few hours. I even tried restoring to a previous backup to no avail.
In recovery, I noticed that there was a Wimax partition - Does my phone think it's a Nexus S 4G now? Is that causing the problem?
What can I do?!

Did you flash a radio that wasn't specific to your device? Do you think that is a possibility.

I assume it's a possibility - I've done it multiple times before but I guess I could have been half-asleep this time...

I think that's. T-Mobile radio u flashed... if anything pull the 3 files from the efs folder and move them into the root of your SD Card but you need Root explorer... u can find the file in 4shared.com version 2.16 ... but make sure u flash a different radio before moving them... the files u need to move are

All Current Radios

here i have all current known radios for the Eris. these radios can be flashed via Amon_RA recovery. ive put them in update.zip format. so all u need to do is place them on the root of ur sdcard and flash like any other update.zip from recovery.
FLASH THESE AT UR OWN RISK. LIKE ANYTHING ELSE U DO TO UR PHONE. IM NOT RESPONSIBLE
INSTRUCTIONS
step one: download and put the desired radio update.zip on to the root of ur sdcard.
step two: flash the update.zip via Amon_RA recovery. by selecting update.zip from sdcard and choosing the radio zip u want.
step three once it flashes it will ask u to press a something to continue. do it and itll reboot and take a few seconds on a bootloader screen. once that finishes, it will reboot back into recovery. from there just choose reboot, to boot into android
step four go into settings>about phone>software information. under baseband is ur radio version. enyoy
now as for the question of which radio is better...
there is no good answer to this question. some enjoy results from different radios. an up graded radio will always do good. as it will most likely give better battery life and signal then the stock radio. all of these radios will work with any rom (1.5 - 2.1) and unless a dev has inclued a radio in their rom. the radio will always remain the same unless u flash it with another.
now for the question about why some radios say heroc instead of eris...
the heroc radio are just that... heroc radios from sprint. its a cdma radio so it works the same as verizon radio. dont believe me?! do a strings | grep on all the radios and u will see they are all using both sprint and verizon logins and such. also as right now im running the latest radio which is the heroc one. everything works fine and its the one ive had best results with on both my Sprint Hero and my wifes Verizon Eris. although others may find better results with other versions.
please feel free to post ur radio results here on this thread.

Nope, everything should work fine, i use to use sprint radio's all the time on my winmo devices, i allways thought they worked better
its only been 10 minutes or so since i flashed the latest radio, but my 'Time without a signal %' is at zero without the Airplane Mode trick will keep checking, but this seems to be good news! Not that I have ANY idea if that bug could even be related to this haha, but whatever, as long as it works..
edit: well over an hour now..still 0%
edit2: started doing it again after the next reboot, airplane trick still needed
Thanks for the tutorial, and for those that browse and don't want to register an account (don't be lazy) I have the files hosted over at photex-media dot net

just dont forget to give credit. i didnt get these radios in update.zip form. so i did all that work myself. also took the time to flash each of them before posting to make sure all was good and they all worked
Please be careful guys, I would not flash your radio without a reason to.
However thanks for the tutorial, I have another eris radio version, but I don't think it would be wise to flash it. Do you want it?

have had the newest eris radio for a couple hours now and can say that the signal strength has signifigantly improved and can't confirm battery drainage at this point but the signal strength is there for sure...jcase why would it not be advisable to flash a radio update?

pm me and give me the info on it. please
also there is no reason to try and scare people about these radios ive posted. they all work and it will do no harm to flash them. ive noticed better reception and battery life since flashing the latest sprint radio on both my heroc and eris. if anyone flashed the root leak they got a radio that ive posted here. its actually an older radio at that.
but yeah if u are sure u have an eris or sprint radio. then please give me the info and ill test it.

flashing anything can be risky. but i wouldnt have posted this or anything else that i have not tested myself. i wouldnt ever post something that would put anyones device at risk. ive flashed many radios and know what im doing. i wouldnt advise anyoone to go out and find mystery radios to flash as that is a sure fire way to brick ur device.
again all of my radios were tested by me before i posted and they all work well

excellent, thanks for sharing and taking the time and the risk to test and post these as i stated previously signal is much improved with the newest eris version...living close to an airport seems to reek havoc on my coverage idk why, again thanks.
I know this sounds bad but how the heck do you see what radio you current have I know its in settings but I am having a brain fart or am just to blind to see it in about phone.

toastcfh of course you get credit, i'm just trying to have a nice organized site with tutorials and files locally hosted as an alternative. XDA becomes pretty cluttered at times. I hope you don't mind I did some spelling corrections
And for a quick review before flashing the heroc rom I had maybe 0-1 bars in my apartment, now I have 2-3 and calls connect EXTREMELY quick in comparison.

I have a reason to inform them they are running a risk. A lot of people out there have no clue what they are doing nor risks involved. If something happens, say some idiot pulled the battery, or flashed on a low battery, bad things could happen. or if a file happens to be corrupted.
I have the radios from stock 1.5, root 2.1 and leak 2.1, which do you not have.

That's what I did. But RUU may make odd things happen, a few users who did BOTH and then RUU'd lost s-off functions but still had s-off. So if you're going to do both just commit to never RUUing. If you want fastbooot commands you need darchs. Darchs is undone by RUU. If you are good with just HERCIMG.zips then regaws wil do, but will NOT be undone by RUU.
i know this is somewhat off topic.. but i love the title of this thread..
its like a feeling we all have at first.. we are a little embarrased after our first flash.. and ask ourselves "is it ok to flash??".. then we end up flashing everywhere and all of the time..
sorry oostah, i had to let that out..

Oostah, I was sorry to read about your phone issues and I thought it was great how you didn't give up and got it solved.
The 1st time I went S-off, I only used Darch's Eng Spl. I RUU'd to try and solve my phones intermittent (Rom flashing) issues. So, I lost S-off obviously and used Regaw's to root and then decided to do Regaw's S-off (since I had the 1.47 bootloader now), then, I did Darch's as well even though I don't use fastboot commands often, but it's a nice option to have. I didn't know about the issues that Il Duce brought up (but he would know since he is so active on XDA). I know that there are many who have gone the same route to get S-off.
It has been a lifesaver for me when I lost my recovery some how. If you just want temporary s-off, you might just want to just do Darch's since Regaws is permanent at this point.
Good luck and Happy Flashing!

when i got it back to recovery and the bootloader. i should have flashed a radio before trying to flash the s-off. the s-off and radio didnt play nice to gether. 95% sure that i could have got it back. but i no how now to get it back if any one gets in that state. Duce, pstevep, and oostah I had the same issues that Duce described but it was of no big concern ,because I'm on a different phone. But I've been trying to keep up with you guys over in the Mild_salsa thread and help.So before I got my new phone a I used regaws s-off and Darchs together ,evrything was groovy as they say.I when I get my new phone ,I unroot my hero and then I start to try to help with your mms issues over in the other thread.Lo and behold I can't flash any HECRIMG's from the bootloader, can't figure it out then I come upon this thread :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971550

So I take it out today and re-formatt to FAT32 and (How does that chef from LA. say BAAMM!) my bootloader now recognizes the HERCIMG.zip.(I just tested it again took out my card formatted it to FAT booted into bootloader and it didnot recognize the HERCIMG,took it out reformatted it in FAT32 and BAAMM! lol it recognized ther HERCIMG.)

That just sounds like things when wrong in the /efs folder when you flashed, which will cause that problem I believe. You should backed up the folder so if that does happen, you could just restore your efs/ folder again, and things should have been hunky dory. I use this tool to back up my /efs folder, you can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546
I suggest you might want to read this:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/backup-and-restore-your-efs-folder-on-samsung-devices/
Candanga said:
Why the /efs folder?
This is a very sensitive system folder that contains Phone-specific information such as the IMEI (encrypted in the nv_data.bin), wireless devices MAC addresses, product code (also in the nv_data.bin), and much more. Often users trying to change product codes or trying to unlock the mobile will end up corrupting data in this location.
Why back it up?
Well, let’s resume it saying that backing-up this little folder will keep you away from Samsung service centers.

Just from how you described what happened, a problem with the /efs sounded like the most likely cause of your problem. Obviously I don't have your device so I can't tell you what actually happened. The problem of your phone not reconsigning your sim after flashing is the main symptom of a corrupt or damaged /efs folder, that's why I thought to suggest you back up your /efs folder, so if it was your problem last time, and it happens again, you can just restore the folder and things should be fine.
Ok, I will think about that but Im scared to death of paying $200 again :S
If your aint 100% confident on flashing, you shouldnt be flashing anything.

I suspect they were lying, but I'm no computer engineer or technician. I just cannot see your phone sending high enough voltages or enough heat, to physically damage your motherboard. Nor can I see how flashing a rom through CWM messing with your bootloader.

Question to Radio/Baseband

Hey,
I have flashed a few days ago my DHD successfully with Jelly Time.
Everything works fine, except for my GPS.
Now I read that it needs a different radio version. No idea why, but I have this:
Baseband version
12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M
I have now this here concerned:
PD98IMG_12.69.60.29_26.17.14.11_M
Now there is an IMG file inside. This I put on the SD card and tried to flash it, what did not work.
Now, I kept reading and found that I. (Probably) have no radio-Off and ENG S-Off is with me nothing
With me in the bootloader this is here:
ACE OVT Ship S-OFF RL
HBOOT-0.85.0024
Microp-0438
Radio 26.10.04.03_M
eMMC boot
April 12 2011,00:55:45
What lack I yet for now, what I have to do?
Anyone who wants can answer me in German as PM, that would be good
Yes I believe you don't have radio S-OFF.

[help] no imei no baseband

First of all I'd like to express how I feel. I feel like crying! I honestly just spent my entire savings for this year to get my note III and now I have no idea how to get it back to work. Phone is working but IMEI is null and baseband is unknown.
I wanted to install a custom ROM and thought it would be a great idea to backup my EFS. I used EFS Professional v2.0.91 tool, and for some reason instead of backing up my efs this tool got rid of my imei and baseband. I have tried every solution there is and I reached a dead end and the point of I just wanna cry now! Please if anyone could help me!

EDIT: I am getting random reboots from time to time

OK I'll chime in here before you mess up your device due to advice that is very poor IMO.
The fire script only works if you lose your BASEBAND not your BASEBAND and IMEI!!!
By flashing the fire script it actually messes the device up more. And it should ONLY be run if you lose basband not IMEI/SN.
Read THIS thread and learn the risks, your device can be fixed, however you need to use ADB and be prepared for a bit of a headache to restore your IMEI.
People need to stop recommending that fire script until they know what the hell it actually bloody does.

Your issue would have been loss of BASEBAND not IMEI and BASEBAND, there is a HUGE difference. I suggest you learn the differences and how they vary before recommending a script that can ruin a device.

you are mistaken bro, the brickloop fix was actually made for efs/imei loss,. that was being caused when the note 3 was first released and the custom recoveries deleted imei
i have helped many ppl get their imei back using that very fix
