PBAP(Phone Book Access Protocol) on Galaxy Tab P1000 - Galaxy Tab General

Dear Friends
I was planning to buy a BT Headset with caller ID functionality.
I started searching for a suitable one for galaxy tab.
But I coulnd't find any reported BT Headset, to be working with GTAB, I mean no one reported that they see callers Contact Info on the display of BT headset as saved in Phonebook of the GTAB.
So I searched for possible reasons and faced with term PBAP (Phone Book Access Protocol).
I saw some of GTAB spec sheets reporting that, GTAB has PBAP support.
So what is could be the reason for this inability?
Is there way to make it work properly?
Is there any BT headset that works with GTAB flawlessly with caller ID display capability?
thanks in advance

My car has BT voice kit, and it works ok with phone book and caller id, so i think yes, gtab supports PBAP.

Yes. So does my Galaxy tab euro firmware 2.3.3 and JVC Bluetooth enabled car hifi and I also get caller ID and names on my Jawbone Era Bluetooth headset.

I have Nokia 7W or something car kit, it doesn't have display so I can't say if it is receivin this info or not.
I really need a BT headset with caller ID working on its display with GTAB.
Jawbone Era is not sold in my country, and it seem really expensive to me, at least at the srotes that I looked.
Any other suggestions will be highly appreciated.

This came up while searching on Google.
However reality is different when shopping around. Seems decent and reasonably priced headsets with caller display are hard to find even here in Hong Kong...

I've found some BT Headsets with caller ID display starting from 23-25USD's.
But I'm looking for a headset which works with Galaxy Tab.
Most of these headsets are just able to show the "number" of caller.
But if possible I'm looking for a BT headset that can show the "name of caller" read from GTABS contacts database.

Any other suggestions?

Hi!
I´m also interested in this matter: I´m expecting a Samsung P6800 7.7 tab, and I plan to use a BT headset with caller ID.

Hi. I've got Jabra Extreme2 and it does have PBAP feature. It don't have display, but says the caller id (voice synth). It works fine with GT (P1000).

Wired headset with caller display?

I use my XDA Exec in closed clamshell mode most of the time, and the biggest shortfall of the Universal is the lack of a caller display in that mode without opening it.
I'm looking at a Sony Ericsson HBH-200 BT headset as a possible solution, but if I understand it correctly you then have to take the call via BT which isn't appropriate at work (even with the bud-type earpiece).
Is there a wired headset with caller disply on the market that would fit the Universal, with the option then to take the call on the headset or on the phone? I've googled with little success..
Hi,
I do not understand why is it not appropriate to bluetooth headset at work? I find that it will make you look more professional and you will not be finding yourself tangled up with wires! You can simple place your BT headset in your breast pocket while not in use. And when there is a incoming call, just wear it. You will find that it is much better than a wired headset. I wear my Jabra JX10 the moment I stand out of my house till the time I return home.
Anyway, if you are looking for a BT headset with caller ID, I would recommend you Jabra BT800. It is small, comfortable to wear and has vibrate option! I was using that before I change to JX10.
Anyway, Good luck hunting for the right BT headset for you!
Regards,
Johnnie
Basically, it would not be possible over wires alone, as there are only 4 pins on the headset connector - Ground, Left out, right out and mic in. This gives no headroom for enhanced functionality headsets.
Thanks for the replies - the Sony Ericsson it is, then!
does anyone know if the Jabra BT800 shows the name of the caller or just the number of the caller.
Thanks
It displays just the number, something to do with the version of the bluetooth stack used in the Universal.
Thanks for the reply, so that means I would have to remember everybodies telephone numbers. Maybe the new rom coming for the Jasjar on the 23rd of this month Feb. will have a fix.
So are you saying its only a Universal problem, will you get a caller id name of the caller on any other phone?
The new rom may indeed fix the problem, I hope it does contain the new version of the bluetooth stack as I have this headset.
Any phone that is using the old stack will suffer from the problem unfortunately. I don't know which phones has the new stack (or aren't using the Microsoft stack at all).
Cheers

Tilt, AT&T Stock ROM, Microsoft Voice, and Bluetooth which work - PLZ Recommend

Greetings,
I have reviewed the Bluetooth vs. AT&T Tilt vs. Microsoft Voice threads, and cannot find a specific answer, so I am going to try to ask a narrow question here ...
... does anyone who has (i) AT&T Tilt with (ii) the AT&T ROMs, (iii) Microsoft Voice, and (iv) a Bluetooth Headset have all 4 working perfectly together? I need to buy a bluetooth headset, and the forums are littered with problems with Voice announcing, or problems answering the phone thru the headset, etc.
That's why I am just hoping to hear from someone who has all 4 of these things ... that work together. Any recommendations for the bluetooth headset are appreciated.
Thanks
My Tilt worked great with the stock ROM, MSVC 1.6.17913 and my BlueAnt Z9 worked flawlessly including announcing calls over BT.
Thank you!
I will look into the BlueAnt Z9. Thank you so very much for responding.
Of course ... if anyone else has the combination of stock tilt/voice/bluetooth, please let me/us know what other adapters might also work.
I did not have any issues with the Motorola H700 and MSVC 1.6.17913 on my Tilt.
H700
Andre - I recall seeing some mention of the H700 on other threads. Can you (please) confirm that you can answer the phone thru the bluetooth, and that call announce works?

I keep my unit on vibrate and ring and this is the way I tested it. I first placed a call using my office phone to my mobile handset in the "vibrate only" and "vibrate and ring" modes. When my mobile handset was on vibrate the notification came through to my headset with audible tones and my mobile vibrated, but no voice announce from MSVC was heard. When I switched the handset to normal vibrate and ring mode (assume this works on ring w/o vibrate as well) MSVC announced the caller through the headset and nothing audible was heard through the handset. I would say this headset is 100% compatible with the Tilt and MSVC.
Bought the Z9
My Z9 arrived today, and it does answer the phone, engage in voice command, etc.
Pretty nifty (but expensive) bluetooth.
Thanks!
Glad you like it. I hope you give us a nice reveiw after you play with it for a while. I am contemplating moving up because I have had this same type of headset for years now HS810, HS820, HS850, and the H700.
I've got AT&T Tilt, Stock ROM, MS Voice Command 1.6.17913 and Samsung WEP200 all working together.
Also, in MS Voice Command, there are options to select the source the phone calls are made from.
Go to "Start" > "Settings" > "Voice Command"
Click. "Notifications" button and the options that come up are...
-Announce notifications using Bluetooth hands free only
-Announce notifications using Bluetooth hands free if available
-Announce notifications through device speaker or wired headset only.

i still cant get it all to work on my tilt like my 8125...8126 was the bomb with vc. tilt is so nice but not with vc
I tried out a plantronics 665 the seemed to work well, but I didn't care that much for the headset. Returned it and got a nxZen nx9000, and it doesn't seem to work with voice command. Not sure why one works and not the other. Anyone care to speculate, or state with authority, why the 2nd headset doesn't work? Thanks.
Anybody knows how Logitech Mobile Pro Headset works with this combo?
Thanks

Is the Jawbone working with all this? I broke my last Jawbone, but would definatele get another, assuming it would work.
My Jawbone works with my Tilt with the stock ROM. Make sure you install VC before you pair your phone with the headset. If you already paired, delete the pairing and re-pair after the install.
Thank you much.
Now I've got another issue, somebody said "BLUEant" and I saw went looking... I like Blue
Trying to decide between the Z9 or another Jawbone. Comparitively they're about the same with the Z9 being the smaller and more "attractive" of the two, and it also costs alot less. Not to mention it's firmware can be update.
But the big plus for me is that it's BT 2.0 BT 2.0 + Firmware upgradeability make it a serious contender in my book. The Jawbone is in it's prime... whereas the Z9 could get better.
Can't decide at the moment...
I also have the Tilt and Jawbone working together but does anyone know if it is possible to issue the voice commands via the headset. I can only talk into the phone to make it dial a name and then the call is directed to the bluetooth headset.
has anyone got this to work all through the headset.
I couldn't imagine it not being possible... I managed to use the Jawbone with the RAZR V3 in or to use voice dialing and it worked decently.
Jawbone and voice dial
Have had a Jawbone paired with my tilt since I bought it. Works perfectly except calls are not announced through the bluetooth, but important e-mail subjects are read through the headset when they arrive.
The Jawbone is sometimes awkward because it gets loose on your ear/cheek if you move your head alot and then sounds like your talking through a long tube.
Thinking about trying blueant, but haven't heard any glowing reports yet.

There are plenty of fantastic reviews for the BlueAnt Z9. It seems to me to be just the same as when I was researching the Jawbone. You'll either love it, or you'll hate it.
The big plus to me with the BlueAnt is that it's warranty is fantastic (2 years compared to the Jawbone's very specific 1 year warranty), it's BlueTooth 2.0 Stereo (should result in better sound quality as I plan to use my Kaiser as my MP3 player as well), and the big plus for me is that its firmware can be updated. Thanks to the firmware, the Z9's limitations are moreso a limit of it's firmware than it's hardware, whereas the Jawbone is fixed.
With that said, I loved my Jawbone... and I'll still be using my current one while it's still functioning (it's falling apart... Jawbones aren't very well built I'll say that) and comparing it to my Z9 when it gets here.

Hi URPREY - I have the same setup (with the official ATT ROM update 1.62.502.0) working, but instead of announcing the callerid info, I'm hearing "please answer or not at home" through my Blueant Z9 via my Tilt. Any ideas?

Adventures in Bluetooth

Ok, I have the T-Mobile Tab, I have Skype and Google Voice working via 3G and Wifi but here is the issue...
I have tried 4 different wireless bluetooth headsets and they all react the same... They connect and pair with no issues BUT...
When you place a call the other callers voice is routed, as it should be, to the BT headset, however, my voice is not routed through the BT microphone and it uses the Tab's built in mic...
This is pretty unacceptable as you can imagine and pretty much defeats the purpose of a BT headset...
Any ideas, thoughts, or help on how to get the Tab to route voice via the BT headset as opposed to it's built in mic would be MUCH appreciated!!!!
Thanks in advance!
This was kind of discussed in another thread. Current thinking is that they modified the profile to not support a mic on the BT headset.
Until someone creates a patch, update or a custom rom, there probably won't be a solution.
This is the price we pay for getting the new toys right away. Once the dev's start rolling out the mods, I am sure it will be corrected.

Whilst this may be true for US Tabs, FWIW bluetooth headset profiles do not work with Skype on Euro Tabs either.
I've been trying it out this afternoon, and whilst my headset (well, wristset to be totally accurate) works fine for regular cellular calls, when I try to use Skype I only get audio out.
If I check the options for the connected device in the bluetooth settings, I have both Media and Phone profiles checked. If I uncheck Media, I no longer even get audio out with Skype (though regular phone calls still work ok on the headset), which shows that Skype is not using the Phone profile at all.
So, I suggest you look at the options for your bluetooth device to see if it even has the option for Phone. If it does, it seems that the headset profile is still there and it is actually Skype which is not using it.
Regards,
Dave
If you read some of the comments here, it seems that Skype for Android doesn't support bluetooth anyway.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks for the info man. I'll check it out on my Sprint GT.
Wonder if it's possible to put the Samsung Galaxy S BT on the Tab?
It is because the sound of these apps is being routed via the A2DP profile and not Headset provide is you are hearing the sound via the BT headset but the mic used is the Tab's

Since my headset didn't work with Skype at all with the Phone profile awhen I switched of the Media (A2DP) profile, I doubt a non-A2DP headset will help.
The problem is Skype doesn't use the phone profile.

I dont think its limited to skype either. I tried two other programs last night, neither one had working mic.

I wonder if it would be possible to flash or install the euro BT .apk?

Why? Still won't work because the problem is with Skype on Android - it does not use the phone BT profile.

No BT Headset Profile in any of the US Galaxy Tabs
The reason that none of can use their Bluetooth headsets with a program like Skype (or better yet, Line2, which I am a beta tester for) is that the Amrican carriers ripped out the ability to use BT Headset profile. Now some headset (such as te Jabra Stone) uses Audio profile, so it will work with the GalaxyTab, but we definitely need someone to break that an hack in a great fix so that we can get Line2, install it on the Tab, then us Bluetooth Headsets to do our communcating. This because the best (and cheapest) phone/data device in the world at that point. Is anyone working on that?

And these headphones have a mic built into them? And that mic worked for your Skype calls?

T-Mo Galaxy tab cannot pair with phone BT headsets

It seems that the BT headset function is disabled in the T-Mo Tab so even if you use Skype you cannot use BT which is very annoying for a device of this size
I have tried to pair a few of them and they are all not visible when BT scanning to pair
Is there a way to patch that with some of the EU tab files?
Thanks
Eric
Note: it is possible to pair stereo headsets but they will not work with skype or a VOIP app
My plantronics voyager pro+ works great with my tab. There is actually a thread already with tab owners talking about what all bluetooths work and which ones dont. My tab is a tmo tab.
Sent from Jt's Samsung Galaxy Tab!!
Thanks JTC442
Your plantronics voyager pro+ is supporting A2DP and all (or most of) the A2DP headsets are connecting to the Galaxy Tab
Have you been able to use this headset for a VOIP call?
Eric
No, only using actual phone. No mic with voip.

That is why I am looking for a file patch in this thread to get access to these features
It is interesting to inventory the handsets that works but at the end of the day,
None works in headset mode and most of them work in headphone mode
I would bet that the EU FW has BT headsets working just fine

yeah my bt headsets were working fine with the EU firmware , i have the plantroics 975 and jabra stone, also the Motorola MOTOROKR S9-HD worked great.. only thing i did notice i was having some issues reconnecting to the my bt headsets sometimes either a bad flash or something to do with the wifi ad-hoc mod, when i get my tab again i will try with the new euro firmware and see if i have the same issues, the Motorola MOTOROKR S9-HD did work on the US firmware just fine as well as my jabra stone but did not detect my plantronics 975
I have a feeling bluetooth headsets have been blocked on u.s. Tablets to prevent phone use. I have tried 2, both work fine on othet devices, but are not found in my GT's settings-bluetooth-scan menu... However I downloaded the google bluetooth app, and it does see the headset, even though its not the proper device type for that app.

Can you be a bit more specific? What Google Bluetooth app??
Its called "bluetooth talk" by google market inc on applanet. Not in the normal market, not sure why or if its really a google thing now. But "bluetooth chat" in the market sees my headset just fine also.

Not fond of Applanet, I rather pay for shareware when I need it and support the developers. What does this Bluetooth Talk does? Does it help in anyway?
E
The apps wont pair with the device but will show that the device is actually viewable to the tab. Just search "bluetooth chat" in market. Hit search and it will discover the headset. You still cant pair, but it shows there is no problem with the bluetooth protocol stack, but the pairing program settings compromised.

What is a good bluetooth headset to use for phone calling?

Edit:
What is a good bluetooth earpiece (not headset, sorry about that) to use for phone calling. I want to use the tab as a cell phone.
I use the BlueAnt T1. About $80 at Bestbuy. Excellent headset except that the T-mobile Tab isn't set up with voice dialing. The BlueAnt headset has voice dialing capabilities but the tab doesn't...as far as I can tell anyway.
Other than that the BlueAnt does everything that I need.
Bugman do a search for voice dial, or bluetooth dial.
There is a thread with an .apk that makes the tab work on BT voice dial

I'm using the Motorola SD9-HD. This is a stereo headset that works well for music, as well as phone calls. Bought it online for around $45. I've used it with my Sprint SGT to make Skype calls and listen to Slacker online radio.
It will accept voice commands for dialing out on my Moto Droid but I don't think the Tab is set up for it.
I think that you guys misunderstood me.
I am looking for a bluetooth earpiece (not headset, sorry) that I can use to make and take phone calls from the Galaxy tab.
I need it small enough to put it in my pants pocket.
Thanks.
Oops! I think there are any number to choose from, although I never had much luck with Bluetooth headsets for longer than a few months. Not really sure why. For reliability I've pretty much standardized on cheap, corded headsets for everyday use.
I think the last BT headset I had was a Jawbone because it was supposed to use DARPA technology to cancel out background noise. After a couple of months it quit pairing, but I never determined if it was the headset, the phone or just a ghost in the machine.
From Google: http://reviews.cnet.com/best-bluetooth-headsets/
I use multipurpose universal BH105 nokia headset. Works with tab nokia phone ps3 and costs around $15.
