Newb encounters problem when flashing (mmcblk0p2) - Droid Incredible General

So i'm not a total newb, but almost. I've been rooted and flashed to various roms for a few months, but don't really understand programming or anything.
Today I was trying to flash this rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263035) using clockwork recovery like usual. Then this happens:
Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (File exists)
cache won't wipe. It then gets stuck in a bootloop on first boot. I pulled the battery and managed to get jermaine's insensitive rom running, and so I thought it was fine. Then I tried again, and the same thing happened. Now insensitive won't flash (stuck in boot loop). I was able to get nils business sense 3.5 to flash though.
I'm scared of trying to change it now, because I have no idea what's going on. SD card and EMMC mount to PC, and no issues with anything else.
Is something wrong my SD card? I reformatted it (fat32) and put the roms back on after the first error, but since the error happened again I don't know what it is.
Thanks

Do you have a ext2/3/4 partition on your sd?

I remember getting this error similar to this when I had apps2sd setup. It sounds like ur /cache partition might be jacked though. 2 fixes I know. The hard way is to manually repartition using gparted or another like program. The easy way would be to flash a PB31IMG.zip from the bootloader. That would repartition everything and return you to full stock..
That's only if it is your /cache partition messed up.

Not sure. How would I check that?

Ok I see what your saying. Return the phone to completely stock and then root/install new rom etc?
The only thing I'm scared of is the process of returning to non-rooted status. I'm afraid I won't wind up being able to get anything flashed at all, and just wind up with a worthless phone. I did download parted to my SD card since I saw someone mentioning it. I have no idea how to use it though.
EDIT: How would I tell for sure if it is the partition that is messed up? Is there a diagnostic procedure I would do that would tell me? Like a phone memory analyzer?

So I guess I'm going to try going back to stock and see if that fixes things. Hopefully it does.

Having trouble flashing new roms

I'm kind of new to the rooting and custom rom thing. I have successfully flashed Fresh Rom 2.1.1 to my phone and I've got A2SD running on it. However, whenever I try to flash a new rom (including flashing Fresh again), it just freezes while booting and sometimes loops.
Before I flash the zip (running Ra recovery 1.5.2), I do a factory wipe and dalvik wipe. Once I flash a rom (I've tried fresh and ic3), it just doesn't work. Does anyone know what the problem is here? I don't know much about A2SD, so I may just be doing something wrong there, but any help would be appreciated.
Some folks say you need to wipe the ext partition, also. Don't know for certain that that is YOUR problem, but if you don't mind reinstalling your apps, it might be worth a try.
The 3.99 invest ment in Titatnium Backup is well worth every dime.
You are going to more than likely have to wipe EXT for every rom you flash, sometimes you will get lucky. If it doesn't boot with in 20 minutes, go wipe EXT. Some times you will have to even repartition the whole card.
Make sure you are not using EXT4 partition when you try other roms, just fresh works with ext4 i think.
I thought Darch's newest worked with ext4 also?
probably. I just know that when i had Ext4 fresh was the only one that worked for me until i removed ext4 and went back to ext3 so i could use damageless rom

Alright, I'm working on this whole donate system with titanium backup now. Waiting on an e-mail or something. (Not really enjoying this method of buying a program very much...)
I'm using an ext3 partition if I remember correctly.

It's the only way he can really lock down the program with a key file.
The market doesn't offer ANY protection for apps that are paid.
This is something Google REALLY needs to do something about if we really are going to attract iPhone devs.
Kind of a PITA but it protects his app.

My keyfile came in the mail. It was kind of difficult understanding what was going on, but now I get the process. It seems very effective, I understand it completely from the developer's perspective.
Now that I've got the backup working, I'm gonna try wiping the ext partition and make sure I can restore it from the backup.

Help: Dont laugh - Bricked my phone

Ok so this morning my alarm wakes me up and I noticed I had to unlock my phone to make it snooze, something didnt seem right as my alarm app usually comes up to the front and I can snooze without unlocking my screen. So what do I decide to do half asleep? I decide to reinstall the rom. Here are my steps, and I suggest you dont follow them.
1. Format system
2. Format data
3. Format cache
4. Mount system
5. Reboot phone (Swear this was an accident, as I was trying to navigate to the "install zip from sd card" option)
So my question is ,whats the quickest way to unbrick my phone. It just stays on the "M" boot logo. I found a couple of threads on different sites but want to make sure I"m using the latest method and for the Droid X. Thanks in advance

Looks like an SBF is in your very near future.
Go to the Development subforum and search there.
If you have not applied the OTA 2.2 update, you will need the instructions to SBF back to 2.1 and then apply the 2.2 leak, and load your ROM from there.
If you have already done OTA 2.2, there is also an SBF that will restore /system only. It Might save you.
BE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU DO NOT FLASH the 2.1SBF if you were on OTA 2.2. If you do, it will be game over.
Let us know how you fair.
One of the first things I did was the 2.2 ota when I got my phone.
Thanks, I will search there and report back.

Can you not get back into Clockwork if you pull your battery?? And they do have a 2.2 sbf that restores your system files.

if you hose /system you won't be able to get back into recovery. Recovery depends on the logwrapper in /system/bin. If it's gone, no recovery boot.
I'm guessing Format System pretty much took care of that

Yes. I think that is your only hope at this point. If it doesn't work, I think you are SOL.
I did something very similar to this, flashing the 2.2 System SBF fixed it

good for you man. seriously. just read a couple threads like this. makes me real nervous about flashing roms.
Not nervous since I have insurance
Seriously I caused my issue with a silly mistake. Usually its smooth sailing.

[REQ] Nandroid backup request (offering cash)

Just wondering if anyone who's flashing and rooting could please do a backup and upload it somewhere. Myself and a couple others have accidentally partitioned our internal SD incorrectly causing a catastrophic touch screen issue.
I'm hoping it'll have the properly partitioned SD storage because I'm having difficulty doing it manually. If someone could upload this it'd be hugely appreciated!!!
BUMP!!!
Can anyone please provide me with a Nandroid backup using Tenfar's recovery??? I can throw some money once I get my Paypal sorted out. I'm desperate, fellas!
Can someone please help? I'd like to try anything I can to get my phone working this weekend. It's been an entire week without my Atrix.

Im relatively new to android...is this backup you are speaking about a TB backup. Or what method of backup are you looking for?
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
You actually need to be rooted and have Tenfar's custom Recovery menu. In there it has an option to do a Backup.
If you're new it may be too engaging but I appreciate the offer nonetheless. If you could help, it'd be great. If it's too much trouble, I thank you anyway!
yeah what does the nandroid backup...back.. up? the apps?
What I'm HOPING and PRAYING for is that it'll also copy something in the internal SD which was partitioned due to my stupidity. dev/block/mmcblk0p18 is what that is in particular.
I tried manually formatting and partitioning it but I'm unable to do so. Fastboot freezes and Early USB Enumeration goes by so quickly I can't run the commands that I need through ADB. And I don't even know if that'll work because I made a script that executes the commands and I get weird errors. I'm far from an expert and monkeyed around too deeply where I shouldn't have.
About 4-5 others are reporting the same problem. The ****ty thing is that I'm in Canada and it'd be a huge pain to send it to Motorola. They're giving me a lot of grief and I've had to put up a big fight. Waiting to see if they'll send an RMA because I may need to send it in. When I get it back I might sell it and buy a Bell Atrix because I live in Canada and if something bad happens, it'll be easier to send to Bell or Motorola Canada.
from what i understand you have to have an unlocked bootloader to backup or restore using a nandroid backub
Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology then.. just need a backup from Tenfar's customer Recovery. I don't even know if it'll work but I'm out of ideas.
I'm at least thankful that the Xperia X10's bootloader was cracked. I forgot to send a replacement back to Rogers and I phoned them asking if I could use it for now. They thankfully said yes because they forgot to charge me for it lol... it's got some really great ROMs, but looking at this beautiful, mangled Atrix makes baby Jesus cry!
i can do that but im wondering why you dont try SBF file?? should work better than Backup

also a nandroid backup would also restore some else's settings and information on your device....

I've already tried the SBF files but it doesn't do anything to the internal SD. I need an actual backup because the user settings are exactly what I'm looking for. Normally you'd want a fresh flash from stock but I hope you now understand why I'm asking this constantly.
Flashing to stock was naturally my first step. Unfortunately it had failed. About 5 others reporting the same problem.

What maybe you could do is? go into tenfars cwm recovery go to mounts and storage and format the internal sdcard and system and boot and data. This is safe as far as I know and me and tenfar have both done this.I literally formatted every single thing in the option menu. just to see if I could do it. Which was stupid but I was curious and used to do that before I installed new roms on my old backflip all the time! Also might wanna do a factory reset through cwm and clear dalvik cahe as well for good measure. Now after you format all that. reboot system which will send you in a boot loop/wont boot past first screen. Pull the battery and unplug usb cable from charger. Then reboot and enter rsdlite mode by holding volume up and the power button. Now just flash your 4.1.26 sbf file through rsdlite 5.0
As long as you flash back to retail 4.1.26 afterwords using rsdlite 5.0 that should put everything right! As I have done this and my phone is working normal.
I better put one of them warnings here though anyway lol

I was not aware of this and was so focused on correcting the challenge that this was a complete oversight. On second thought, I don't want to compromise anyone's security.
I had in mind a fresh backup, preferably for AT&T's 1.2.6 SBF but it's a bit of trouble and a lot of space. I retract my request due to the amount of work involved and that I don't want to compromise anyone's security in case they don't clear their user details, etc.
Thanks for pointing that out, knigitz. I think ADB access in the Recovery is our best bet. Crossing my fingers.

[Q] Unbricking with Heimdall: not working...

Hey guys,
My Galaxy S was running Cyanogen 7 (stable release) for ages (installed by a friend), then started giving me grief with apps constantly shutting down. I flashed it with a nightly build of CM9 and things were all good for a while (except Clock kept shutting down), but then a week or two ago the phone started dropping it's mobile network connection quite often when I was using mobile data. Then it started turning off at random. Eventually it wouldn't start up, and just boot looped at the Samsung Galaxy S screen (the screen would flash occasionally). Then it stopped booting altogether, but would still enter download mode.
I'm pretty ignorant to how all this stuff works (as I didn't root/flash it in the first place), but I've managed to figure things out to the point where I've used Heimdall to flash it back to stock as explained in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886393
However, the phone still won't boot. When I flash it using Heimdall the terminal window (Win7) tells me everything's successfully uploaded to the phone and reboots it. When the phone boots it goes to the 'Android system recovery' screen and says the following:
Successfully copied meida files.
-- Deleting files....
E:failed to mount /data (Invalid argument)
E:delete_data_files:Can't mount /data
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot actions.

Cache wipe failed.

If I use the menu option to reboot from this screen, the phone still refuses to boot. It usually gets stuck looping at the Samsung animation, but often won't even get that far.
I'm completely lost and any help would be awesome.
Thanks!

well lag fix is conversion to ext 4 format ( one and the same thing) , and not undoing it before flashing anything or factory reset can give you serious problems...you will loose your internal SD card function, unless you can reconvert it back to rfs (the original samsung format) .
What did you use to do the lagfix?

yup , do that and use that to undo the lag fix, cause anything you flash will not be able to undo lag fix, IF you have CWM recovery on your phone you should keep it, as it may come in handy in trying to format your partitions back to rfs, (if possible as last resort)

yup, thats the problem, cause when you did factory reset, it would have tried to install the previous version and that would cause this problems as your orginal would be in rfs format and when you did lagfix ( depending on what sort) you would have change the system and data to ext 4 or even swapped the data with the system ...this is why so many people end up trying to use a two partition EXT SD card to get the phone to function, losing the Internal SD card altogether

Are you sure about this? Because, when you check the "Re-partition" option in Odin, it should erase and create the partitions again. And then they should have to be formatted. So I'm thinking that flashing an original Samsung ROM with re-partition checked should do the trick (at least, it has worked for me in the past, no matter where I came from).

yup, very sure, as I know of too many , who had done practically everything and still cannot format their internal partitions back to rfs. And their final solution was to partition the Ext SD cards into two to get it to act like an Internal SD card

[Q] Semi-brick internal memory issue

Hi everyone, sorry to post but I'm at wits end.
I've searched and googled all over for the past week and have found problems similar to mine but none of the fixes have worked.
If this has already been asked I apologise and will remove but here goes:
I rooted my phone and using the latest cwm flashed the rc1 of cm10, this didnt flash properly so I tried again, no joy.
I read around and decided to try with a different recovery, twrp.
So I tried flashing with that, again no joy. so i used twrp to do factory reset and cache wipes. As I was unfamiliar with the layout of twrp I'm under the impression I've deleted or wiped the cache/system and data partitions.
I've since flashed a PIT file to restore the original partitions, gone back to stock tried reflashing new roms. Its been a nightmare.
The issue itself is no recovery can mount the ext-sd which is actually the internal memory and cannot access the cache/log etc.
The phone itself shuts down randomly and then will not boot up.
Adb can't write or push anything to the device either, the strange thing is when the phones working for brief periods of time I can read and write to device memory?so at this point I'm flat out of ideas.
Any help/ideas or advice would be gratefully received, once again thanks guys

Try and root your phone again with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219803
Thanks for the suggestion, this is the root file I've been flashing already

Ext sd is your sdcard.Internal memory is the system and data.
The pit file was not needed after you formatted the system. Its only for repartition.
My suggestion is to format system flash stock rom do a factory reset then reboot.

Sorry thats my mistake, I can't mount ext-sd in recovery to format it and nothing can be acessed in cache or cache/logs, hence I thought it was an issue with the partitions. I've tried your suggestion but will try again.
Thankyou

Is your phone booting fine ? I didn't understand your actual problem.I just checked the recovery.Sd-ext is the second partion for the sdcard./external sd is the sdcard.
If cache can't be mounted just format it.

Hi again. Cache can be mounted and formatted but recovery can't access cache/logs. My biggest issue is that the phone will randomly close when under stress and hit a bootloop that can only be cured by attaching the charger. The phone does boot I'm currently running pacman ROM. Tbh I'm fairly certain I wiped something important but flashing stock and even a pit file hasn't corrected it

Weired.Did you try other recoveries ? Unfortunately I don't have any idea of what else you can do.
I've tried cwm, twrp and am currently running philztouch recovery as this seems to be the most stable on my phone, I can mount every directory but sd-ext and it also cant format that directory.
I installed AParted app to it this afternoon during a shortlived moment of clarity, phone not me, and tried fixing partitions/blocks. the only viewable were /dev/block/mmcblk0 and /dev/block/mmcblk1
the former, blk1 had 4 pieces of varying sizes but no registered file system whilst the latter was fat32. Could it be that the unacessable sd-ext is in the wrong file format? I've read for cwm and philz it needs to be ext4 but I may be mistaken.
also the crashing seems to occur when an app or process attempts to write to our unaccesable area and leaves me in a bootloop stating the battery is dead. So weird...
beginning to lose hope of solving this and fixing my buggy phone
Anyone with any ideas/experience please help, I'm willing to try almost anything at this point
thanks again guys
ext-sd?
Have no idea about this, but who cares
Many TWRP and CWM first releases break /data and /cache when you format them in recovery
Only known fix for is to flash a full STOCK rom (sammobile tar.md5) using odin + PIT (the right one, memory wise)
All my last recovery releases fully support all format options on S4
By the way, internal storage = sdcard = /data
Thanks for your quick reply Phil. I've flashed back to stock multiple times using a pit file and the sammobile firmware for my device. No joy unfortunately. And your recovery brings back an error when trying to mount or format sd-ext. I don't know what the issue could be but its crashing my phone near constantly

Hi,
try to fix it tru kies recovery.
Have you tried formating your Ext SD card in a PC? maybe its corrupt?
Also the boot loop you mentioned, only being fixed by attaching a charger sounds like a faulty battery. Is it swollen in the middle?
I would try new SD card and/or battery and see if that helps.
I've tried lies and no joy. The sd-ext is a partition in the internal memory not the external SD card, confusing I know. Battery appears fine. During my reading someone mentioned it may be inaccessible due to it being in the wrong format also that it could've corrupted blocks of memory and the crash occurs when the phone tries to access said block. Any thoughts?

Hhhhmmm have you tried running a e2fsck on the sd-ext block?
Sd-ext is the second partition of the SD card while /external-sd is the primary. If you don't have a second partition that's normal if it can't get mounted.

sd-ext is in external_sd
If that's only error you get, it is not an error, it is normal
Google for sd-ext
ijnegea jessie
Well that clears that issue but still leaves me with the crashes and bootloop.
When I try to flash a ROM via recovery it isn't 100percent successful and it then says it can't access cache and cache/recovery/log even though when the phone is running they are visible so I know they're there. This is driving me to despair now. Thanks for the input guys

Did you try a factory reset with philz recovery ? Technically that should format cache and data with a compatible filesystem
