Hi.
I still cannot really believe it but I somehow managed it to erase my status bar constantly...

I have a rooted galaxy S2 with cm7 and transparent status bar patch.
Today I tried the app "super status bar" for theming the status bar without root.
Because the app applies a second status bar over the native one I hid it within launcher pro to keep the transparent look.
After playing a while with super status bar and trying to change the app with ninjamorph because I did not liked the icons from the free version I finally decided to remove it.
After that my status bar was gone and did not come back after changing the settings with launcher pro plus.
I still was not really alarmed- I mean I had clockwork recovery and a nandroid backup.
So I decided to flash cm7 again and also do a full wipe- to be on the safer side...
But the notification bar is still gone- also with adw launcher...
Now I am alarmed.... any ideas... help.... ???
You need to replace the framework.apk with the current one. Download and replace the framework.apk of your current ROM.
thank you- I will try it.

You must've replaced with a wrong framework. Anyway, get rid of the bootloop first,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499
then find the correct framework to replace.
I already flashed back to stock rom with odin but I still have a bootloop...
Now I really don't know what to do because I don't know how to try the villain rom with bootloop and no recovery..
I don't understand it- I really did a lot of flashing with my former phone- the motorola xt720- and when everything went wrong flashing back to stock rom was the last but the step that worked everytime!!! What went wrong now????
Did you remember to wipe data and cache in stock android recovery after flashing stock firmware/rom ?
If not, do this and the bootloop will be history. ;-)
I have experienced bootloops before when flashing different stock firmware/roms.
I hope all works out for you

.... I did not forget it but I do not know how to...
I just know how to get into download mode... I have to admit I am quite hectically now...
Okay dont panic
How to get into recovery mode.
1. press and hold the volume rocker up and the home + power button, while the phone is off
2. just continue holding those 3 buttons til you see the recovery screen, if not try again.
This should get you into recovery mode.
---------- Post added at 10:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:17 PM ----------
Its just like getting into download mode, when the device is off
Only difference is holding the volume rocker up instead of down, i think.
thank you both very much- that was the problem.
I guess I needed such an experience to realize again what messing around with framework etc. means... and that I am really not that android experienced I started to believe the last weeks...
Im glad, i could help.
HELP please !!

Hi peeps, I'm looking to install a custom kernal like Phoenix 1.49 or Xtreme 1.0 and possibly a custom rom. Everytime I've tried to flash them via Rom Manager/CWM it says Signature Verification Failed. What am I doing wrong. Titanium Backup says I have Superuser access so I believe I still have root. I bought the paid Rom Manager so I could do all this but I am still getting this error. It's really starting to push me towards the edge. I'm off work till the 3rd of January due to knee surgery so I decided to read up on rooting and flashing custom roms and kernels. I have no clue what I am doing wrong. Someone please help me.
Thanks
Tom
Did you use the one click root with clockwork mod? You can't use Rom manager to install clockwork mod while on stock kernel. I'm not sure what steps you have done but you don't have clockwork if u did it thru rom manager
http://forum.androidcentral.com/epic-4g-roms-hacks/42178-rooting-ultimate-guide-v1-0-2-a.html
This is the link that I followed to root. If I'm not supposed to post this on here I apologize. But if you have the time to check this through I would greatly appreciate it.
Tom
You cannot use ROM Manager to flash anything while using the stock kernel. Perform the following steps to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
1. Turn off your phone.
2. Hold down VOL DOWN + CAMERA + POWER
3. You should be in ClockworkMod Recovery (Green Text)
4. Flash Phoenix/Xtreme kernel.
5. Reboot
Now you can use ROM Manager to flash anything.
When I do that all that comes up is
Reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition.
Nothing about my kernel on my sdcard. Does it not have to be in a zip folder or something?
Oh, you never installed ClockworkMod Recovery, which is a requirement to flash 3rd party mods.
Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388
Followed it and still the same thing
I was getting this error when I first got my epic and it was because I was booting into stock recovery (red text). Make sure you are in Clockwork Recovery (green text) as mentioned above by holding Vol down, Camera, and Power when your phone is off. Hope this helps.
That's exactly what I wasn't doing I was just rebooting from Rom Manager Manually lol. My noob mistake. I have it working and installed BakedSnack 1.6 rom any feedback on this rom or is there a better rom/kernel combo that I should use?

It's all about what you prefer. I used one of the new odin updates to install dk28 and flashed Mammon's rom and have been loving it especially after applying the gingerbread theme. I'm so content with it I don't plan on flashing anything until they get cyanogenmod or a ported gingerbread out.

I just bricked and recovered my brand new s2 and of course because I was careless , just thought if I post it , it might help people who brick their phones and go in into "panic mode".
The whole story is simple , while trying to reboot the phone instead of plain reboot , gave reboot into recovery , and in a sense of hurry , removed the battery and put it back in , now to my luck the phone started with all my settings except that it messed up the phone modem , luckily I HAD BACKED UP EFS AND THE WHOLE PHONE WITH CWM
I had a custom rom on the phone with titanium backup as well , I just restored the /efs and got the phone back up from the recovery mode , flashed the ROM again , restored the apps from titanium backup
Next time if you are trying something new PLEASE backup anything and everything, because accidents happen.
Hope this will help somebody someday !!!
thanks for the heads-up bro
Excellent advice Dreamchaser

Ya I came close to bricking mine a couple times too because like the other people have stated I was in such a hurry to get the custom rom on there I thought it would be ok to skip steps. Just yesterday I ran into big problems because I put a new rom on and didnt do a full wipe and I got random reboots, forced closes and all kinds of crap. Thank god for the good old nandroid backup! Has saved me more than a couple times!
oops my bad
Thats actually download mode and not recovery , sorry my bad and yes I know I didnt completely brick it, but still I thought sharing this will help
True that!
I almost messed up my friend's Samsung i9000B because I flashed the wrong kernel!
Luckily I was able to go into download mode and flash the right kernel.
argh-like all things in life (ok, most of them) things cant be rushed or done without some knowledge.
when im flashing something i check 5 times am i doing the right thing. no issues so far. cool story eh?

Can u get the phone back into recovery mode? With the phone off, press and, hold the power and volume down button. When the LG logo appears let off the power button and quickly press and hold again. The screen should turn white and will ask if you want to do a factory reset. Choose yes and you should go into recovery mode. Hopefully you can get that far. Then you can reinstall from your backup(if u made one) if not. Be sire you do a wipe. Also if you unzipped the file into multiple folder you can have problems too. If so flash the backup and delete everything except the zip file. Once you are in recovery wipe the data. Be sure to include dalvic cache and cache. Then flash the cloudy Rom,zip file and all should be good. Pm me if you have any questions about it.

But i always go into recovery, do a full wipe (dalvic cache, cache, system and data)!
But the problem of security error is always there!
Flash a proper kernel for it to run.

You need to flash Kk_baseband for your device

Install this APP to know better all the info about your device and add screenshots (IMEI not necessary).
Flash a stock rom via Odin, wipe in stock recovery, and you should be fine.
Thanks guys, please see below.
How do I erase all my data and bring it as close to stock as possible? Does flashing a stock ROM un-root it and basically take it back exactly to stock?
Where can I find a stock ROM?
Cheers
Or do a simple google search...
Is Telstra the carrier? It is is, you could use Odin to flash a stock ROM and perform a factory wipe before flashing the phone for the first time.

Thanks. Just wondering how I clear everything on my phone completely and then put the stock firmware back on? Will this un-root the phone as well?
When I hold Volume Up + Power + Home it goes into a recovery where my options are:
- reboot system now
- apply update from ADB
- apply update from external storage
- wipe date/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- apply update from cache
When I hold Volume Down + Power + Home and I click 'Continue' it says "ODIN MODE" at the top and in the middle of the screen says "Downloading.... Do not turn off target"
Any help would be much appreciated! I'd really like to sort this out so I can sell my old phone ASAP.
Cheers
You flash the rom with Odin in download mode which will unroot and put everything back to stock. After flashing, boot into recovery and perform factory reset.

Thanks a lot. My only problem is the stock ROM is 1.6GB and it keeps disconnecting before it's finished! I'll have to try and find a copy elsewhere...
Hello to everyone,
I hope that someone can help me at this point where i'm stuck on bootscreen after i flashed an custom ROM.
So, let me tell you my story.
I have a little of experience with flashing custom ROMs. And on my personal phone (Galasy S5) i succesfully installed over and over again custom ROMs. I really like the ROMs from AOSP Extended. They are covering all of my needs. So today i have an Samsung Galaxy J5 SM-J500FN. It is having some problems with the capacitive buttons(Back and multitasking buttons); those are playing however they want, so you can realise that entering in some app and your phone exiting fro it by itself is very annoyng. So on my S5 i have an option that can disable those buttons for good. And i wanted to install the Android &.1 Nougat offered by AOSP Extended today. So i ve got the TWRP from the official website for the right model of the phone (J500FN) and put it succesfully on it. I downloaded the ROM from official AOSP website, and succesfully installed it on the phone whithout any error. Then i installed the GApps nano, again with 0 errors. And when i was relaxing a little bit hoping that everything it s allright, when i wanted to boot up the phone, it froze up at boot screen (At the moment with that logo with Samsung ... powerd by Android). Then in a couple of seconds it started to turn to an green screen and then to an white screen. At this point, everything is frozen. So i removed the battery and entered in recovery mode(TWRP). There was no problem (only with those capactive buttons that i want to block).. But anyway, i donloaded several ROMs and nothing so far. I tried with anoter TWRP version, samething, stuck on boot screen.
Until my first atempt to flash the custom ROM, the phone worked just fine, only that those buttons ware going crazy. But now, i can't start it up in every mode i can think of.
Can anyone help me with this, please?! Any ideea of how to slve it?
TWRP version 3.1.1-1 j5 nlte
Firmware version: AospExtended-v4.5-j5ltexx-20170816-2007-OFFICIAL
Phone version: SM-J500FN
Tried with various TWRP versions and ROMs. Installing with and without GApps. All the results were the same like in the pictures below:

For now, i can flash with Odin any version of TWRP, i can flash from TWRP any firmware, but i cannot get it boot up normally.
I don't have any backups from stock firmware so, please don t ask me about that.
Thanks in advance...
Look at the aosp file you downloaded. It says j5LTE.
Your device is j5nlte not j5lte you tried to install the wrong file.
Simple as that.
And if that isnt your problem you may have the wrong bootloader and modem but changing that is easy just follow the guide here https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...5-1-1-bootloader-modem-j500xx-t3566801/page15
