Questions about the CM7 updates to Milestone 2 - Milestone 2 General

Goodnight everyone,
I already have the version "EndlessCM7_20111001_Nightly_BPSW_v1_0.zip" installed on my phone.
Can I upgrade straight to the CM7-nightly-20111021-Milestone2-ICS?
Or do you recommend I do all the updates one by one?
example:
- EndlessCM7_20111001_Nightly_BPSW_v1_0
- 20111004-Nightly-v1.5
- 20111011-0258-Nightly-v1.0
- EndlessCM7_UPDATE_1_for_20111011.zip
- 20111012-0056-Nightly-v1.0
- cm7-20111018-NIGHTLY-UK_Devtree-v1.0
- cm7-20111020-NIGHTLY-v1.0
- cm7-20111021-NIGHTLY-v1.5
- cm7-20111021-NIGHTLY-Milestone2-ICS-pre_stable-v2
and so on ...
Regards,
João Junior

You can simply install the latest version without wipe data and cache.
But I suggest you to backup your data or apps before you install another version.
Because if you face some problem, you should wipe data and cache and re-install.

.
Really? \o/
If so will be easy to update ... I thought it was necessary to make all the updates for lack of "Endless" in the name.

you do not need install all the updates, just the latest. would be interesting to perform the backup, as stated earlier, and then put the rom and give the resets (Cache, Dalvik). maybe you only solve these resets, if not, do the wipe.

Why can not I open attachments greater than 5MB, not The options Open and Save.

Tks guys....

[Q] Force Close on ROMs

So, as the title says, when i try to install a new ROM to my phone after the ROM boots i constantly get force close messages so i can't get to my home screen. This happened to the dungphp Pyramind Sense 3.0 ROM, tyween's CyanogenMod 7 v3.5.7 and 2 or 3 other roms(forgot the names). I have benn using tytung's NexusHD2 Gingerbread for some time and this one works just fine, but i wanted to try something new. Any ideas on how should i make this work ?
I tried Task 29, i checked for Bad Block(don't have any so far) so what can be causing my problem ?
do you wipe data/factory reset in ad recovery before flashing roms? if you dont do this your sd-ext files and dalvik cache will stay in sd-ext and will cause troubles.
I did that too but still the same problem
do you make proper nand partition for new roms?
You mean the partions that are made when i install CWM ? If so, yes, i do.
It is weird if it does that, too, after doing a fresh install.
Fresh ins-tall. n. : Doing a complete TASK29 to your device, format your sd card, install latest MAGLDR/cLK (not really, just to be up-to-date) install a clean CWM with the required partition size, install ROM (only one ROM, not all ROMs work under the same circumstances), reboot, without restorin apps via TB or CWM Advanced Restore.
That's exactly what i did except from formatting the SD, but i'll try that too

if it doesnt work write all steps you take.i think you miss some steps.
Ok, so this post is written while i am instaling a new ROM.
I chose this ROM because last time i tried to install it, it didn't work and because it's a very popular ROM.
ROM: [16.AUG.11][MAG/cLK] TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 Nightly v3.5.8 [2.3.5][A2SD][tytung r10]
- right now i am doing a task 29...Task 29 complete
- the radio i have is 2.15, the recommended one for this ROM so no need to flash a new radio
- installing MAGLDR 1.13...Done !
- installing CWM provided in the ROM's thread (5M // 150M // 5M)...Done !
- wiping data/factory reset....complete
- wiping cache partition...complete
- wiping Dalvik Cache...wiped
- formatting SD Card...SD Card formatted
- copying ROm zip file to SD...Done
- installing ROM...Done!
- Booting...and still the same problem
Here is a list of FC i get:
Google Partner Setup (process com.google.android.partnersetup
Email (process com.android.email)
Android Live Wallpapers (process com.android.wallpaper)
Clock (process com.android.deskclock)
CM Stats (process com.cyanogenmod.stats)
The process android.process.media
Bluetooth Share (process com.android.bluetooth)
The process com.android.phone
And the list just goes on and on...
lol, I just had this problem (yes, today I installed typhoon ROM ) .
I fixed it by factory resetting/wiping after a fresh install, that's got rid of all the FC.
I guess i'll have to try that too. It seems like a battle between me and my HD2

i read all your steps.all seem fine. can you try this:first prepare sd-card(format,make sd-ext etc.) then do other steps(flash mgldr etc). after flashing cwm partition, directly install rom(dont put any steps between them)
Did what you said and it's working now. Thanks for the help

Android rescue.zip project...

So i am here with a new idea. A rescue.zip which can be used to rescue any android device which have a recovery like the famous cwm.
So here is it..
Some times we people screw up our android os like hell, and to reboot the device we usualy do a recovery flash of a new os, flash back our nandroid backup ( both on worst conditions) or even do permission fix, clean cache or dalvic cache( those in 'not that worse' conditions) . So thats are all the options we got. Rit?
Although flashing recovery backups, new roms can fix all, it will also eatup our apps, current setups, contacts, msgs, etc( in case we dont have backups) and will probably screw us. All we can do is say " WTF..WTF..WTF.."
SO here is my idea,
Find out the causes of what causes a reboot, non-boot, hang,fc etc.
And keep a zip that can be flashed through recovery, that has a solution for our problem. They may be including..
1) fix permission of system, data, and user data.
2) zipalign the apps
3) fix the default clock speed of processor
4) defragment memory
5) flash a new copy of su and busy box
6)wipe data or system or ext or cache or dalvic cache
7) flash a new copy of framework.res, system-ui.apk, settings.apk with default permissions( those files are kept in separate "custom" folder on the zip, so that end user can put their own files to that "custom" folder for flashing., the reason behind it is known to all, yap. Not all devices have them in common, every device have its own files)
These are all i got for now, pls post ur ideas and knowledge for any possible cure about any problem u faced/ cured. So that we can make it an ultimate rescue.zip that have a cure for 99% problems android os have. The rest 1% will go with a clean flash.( well we cant avoid that if we did something that bad).
So my plan is to use aroma installer( now on hard learning to find how it works). Throw in some scripts, files etc. Into the zip.
And since its not a device specific .zip file, i want to know how and why any problems are caused in any device( there are many common problems, but that is not what i ask for. I ask for device/os specific problems, and not for a problem that we can cure after booting, but for a problem that can make the device un-bootable) . So u people may help me to find those problems and cures for it. For my knowledge i have experience with wildfire and hd2.
Well i will keep this thread for a week or two, so that u can post ur knowledge, and info. after that i will release the file for u.
To the admin. Of the forum, pls keep this thread as announcement so that all can take a look.

good idea however there are SOOOO many variations of the files that would be needed, that basicaly it would be easier to consider what ever ROM you are using as the OMG_RECOVER.zip
Just my 2 cents.

[SOLVED] Market FC - com.android.vending not responding.

Hello everyone I flashed the new CM7 update recently and after that no matter what I do I get this error. I don't usually write for help, usually I find my answer from google and try everything, but I guess I already did that I'm really desperate, please help me I've tried everything...
- Reflashing Gapps
- Clearing the Market (and associated apps) Cache
- Fixing Permissions
- Wipe Data, Deleting Dalvik Cache
- Installing the latest Market (installs, but the error still remains)
- Replacing market related apk files with root explorer manually
- Formatting everything, re-flashing rom, re-flashing google apps (and all of the above after that) and still no go
I'm using the latest nightly PLEASE HELP! I've never screwed that bad before
P.S.: Info about my phone in the signature!

Thank you so much for your reply! Maybe it is.
- Unfortunately noone else reported it in the time being, thus meaning it's not.
- Fortunately I haven't tried flashing a stable release in a long time... probably never so It's a must to give it a try! Maybe even an older Stable release (still cm7 though). I'll wipe everything, flash it and if it's good I'll backup and upgrade to the latest again, if the problem comes up again - you were right, I'll restore the backup and wait for the next release, if not... even better, thanks again! Didn't thought of that.
In the mean time other suggestions are accepted as well, I'll report later what happened!
I dont think this is related to rom. I cleared the data and cache of google play a couple of days ago. It started force closing after that. Tried reflashing, uninstalling the update and even advanced restore of system (as I replaced vending.apk with another one) but it didnt solve it. At the end I did a full restore of my nandroid which solved the problem..

Hm nice to know, unfortunately I've lost my nandroid backup... (it was on my flash drive, the next moment it's gone...) Could you possibly back up your market with TB and share the backup file from your SD card? Or at least send it via PM :?
**Double post intended to bump **
Banging my head against the wall here, but I feel I'm getting close! It turns out it's some kind of permissions problem (tried fixing permissions about 100 times) still no go.
Here's a log cat from the market on a clean brand new installed CM7 nightly (latest again):
Code:
06-04 01:27:33.952 W/PackageManager(229): Unknown permission com.android.vending.permission.UPDATE_MARKET_FAILURE in package com.android.vending.updater
Anyone knows how to fix this? The device is currently formated from head to toes. Gonna install a different ROM on it tomorrow and swap Cyanogen after that =/ Hope this helps, cuz I'm running out of options here.
EDIT: OMG Just tried the splash mod after wiping everything... SAME PROBLEM :O I guess the problem is in gapps? or my sdcard maybe... or CWM I have no idea...

I run the latest Nightly Build after I really needed to use my video camera as that does not work on Erwin's ICS for now. No issue with my Market but one thing that could cause this is your MTD partition. I use 180 20 on the latest build (Nothing added, nothing removed in the ROM). Hope it helps.

MY F***ING HERO!!! After 4 days... 4 miserable days...!!!
Moral of the story - You shouldn't set 150MB for the ROM and 10 for the Cache partition
Just to make sure I set 250 for the rom and 40 for the cache (like the original partitions of the wildfire) - voala... Now I'm gonna lower them, but it's good to finally see where the problem was. One beer from me dude! /Changing the topic name now
Final Decision: Rom:160 Cache:20 works like a charm.
Glad to hear you solved the problem. My internet went down yesterday so I couldnt reply you.

sorry if this sounds like a silly question, but I've searched around and was not able to find any clue... I do think I'm experiencing the same problem (even if it worked flawlessly for weeks...)-- HOW can I set the cache?
thank you in advance!

Guys - you make it sound like breeze to change the MTD partition?!? I have now used several days searching the net to try to figure out how to do this - but with no luck. All I've benne able to figure out, is that my Galaxy Gear has MMCBLK type partition and not MTD. But can you please explain to me how to change it?

[Discontinued] Helly Bean Cbalt Edition V26 Test Online

Here is just some of what is changed. Mine isn't just a stock port, mine has stuff removed. dave71670's Salty Rom is in the second post.
Now without further ado, here is my V26 Test Release
Wipe Data/Factory Reset/Wipe Dalvik Cache/Flash Rom/Flash Addons/Advanced Fix Permissions In Recovery. If your power button randomly stops working from flashing my rom or anything else happens and you blame me I am going to laugh at you. If you do not know what you are doing, don't attempt to flash it. If you break it you fix it, I will help, but I am not responsible for anything.
My V26 Test Build = http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?iv6mz6cr82l663p

Removed Apps & Files Folder (Some of them are newer than the old folder) = http://www.mediafire.com/?c0f17oxct7dq5
I am calling it a test release at this point, since I haven't ran it more than about an hour. I haven't had any problems though. If coming from CM10 or something else you will more than likely need to flash twice, first flash will go to around 15% and flash the kernel and reboot, second flash will go all the way and say install complete.
Changelog :
Based on 09/04/2012 Helly Bean
MMS updated with pop up notifications
Added https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.helroz.GSII_Repair&hl=en to the rom since I have noticed people complaining of losing there EFS folder a lot lately. I would download this on your current rom and back it up as long as you imei is correct, just to have it for all future releases of my rom or whoevers rom you decide to go to in case you ever lose your EFS folder which has your IMEI. It is a small app, is free and works great, I tried it by backing it up on my phone and then deleting my efs folder, then restoring it later with this program after I got the generic imei error. Credits go to Helroz for the app

Compiled from latest source of CM10 which you can find the changelog at http://changelog.bbqdroid.org/#captivatemtd/cm10/next
renamed the two navbar menus
More Build.prop tweaks
Edited Build.Prop Look In About Phone
Kernel in rom is always the latest VC Kernel
Updated GPS Config
Changed Boot Animation, Wait for a few seconds on boot up if you think it froze, It did not.
Changed Modem To KC1
Changed Updater.sh to Flash Modem if you have a modem already installed or not.
I have also created what I would like to call Cbalts Launcher Program. I have 4 launchers in the removed files folder, Apex, Nova, Trebuchet, And Zeam. You can flash any of them and it will remove the default zeam, to get zeam back flash Removal Tool.zip which will remove all 4 of the launchers if you decide to install all four of them at once. Then reflash the launcher of your choice and that will be the only launcher you have. If you do not reflash a launcher after flashing Removal Tool.zip you will not have a launcher. All launchers remove zeam, but the zeam launcher, I set it up that way since zeam is the default launcher. If you want a new launcher, tell me your choice and link me to it and I will make a flashable zip for it.

Okay, since someone else already grabbed above me, I gotta say this.
This boot animation (cbalt) is beyond atrocious. The idea is not to have as much **** fly over the screen as possible. The last image looks like a 10 year old + ms paint.
Look at slim ics' animation. That one does it's job, looks good and classy.
I know I'm coming off as a troll, but it needs to be said.
I look forward to the rest of the ROM. Thanks a lot. I do really appreciate it.
I think the separate thread was a good idea.
Cool!
I may check this ROM out.
You may want to create a zip file for those who want to add back on any of the removed stuff.
I woud not need this as I use Titanium Backup.:victory:
factory reset?
is factory reset really necessary? i thought wipe data, cache partition and dalvik would be sufficient. and fix permissions too.

Probably a wise idea since you are coming from a different JB ROM or an ICS ROM or GB.
I would imagine that subsequent flashes of this ROM would not require a factory reset or /system wipe once you are on this ROM.

now that you mentioned it, it does looks familiar 'wipe data / factory reset' in cwm. initially i thought factory reset means formatting internal storage. i don't want that to happen.

I personally recommend a wipe every update of this rom, just to help avoid issues, since dirty flashing is never ideal. Yes you can dirty flash, would I do it no, I wipe every time even if it is just a little change I did in the rom, I like to try and avoid issues as much as possible.
Full wipe it is - format /system, too?
Anyways, you need to update your sig/link:

Yes I would do that to. Why do I need to update my sig? That link works. I still spend most of my time in CWM Flashing roms (mostly my versions though) .
Sounds like you've got a great rom here. The change log is GREATLY appreciated. Could you fill me in on the difference between "my v13" and devil v13 please. Do the "nightly 8/1 changes" apply to only the devil edition or your v13 as well? Thank you!

Most of the difference is the stuff that is removed from devils version in my version. There are some other differences, such as some build.prop changes, updater-script changes, gps changes and some other stuff. If you look at the first post it will show must of the stuff I removed.
PS I am working on CWM Flashable Zips to Restore All Apps I removed and then Individual Zips to restore just one app that you want or more than one. Also working on a flashable zip to restore media aka notifications, system sounds etc.

So in the second post, where it says "nightly 1/08/12 changes," do those changes apply to your v13 rom in the first post?

Yes they do, since his rom is my base that I improve more to my liking since I like a slimmer rom personally and dont use all the stuff I removed. He rom is an amazing rom and is perfect if you use all the stuff he includes.
quick question, if i am on Devil Edition V13 Aka 0801 Build, but want to try cbalt's V13 Release, does that require a wipe / factory reset? or could i just wipe cache and dalvik and flash?
pros - quick boot time, snappier than DerTeufel1980's V10 (rom which i was from), benchmarks show better scores than my previous rom (antutu, quadrant, linpack, nenamark, smartbench)
cons- not sure what you want to show in your bootanimation but i've seen better ones. changelog contains negativity. i don't know what happened between you and those 3 people but including rage in your rom does create some perceptions among users, at least me.
nonetheless, keep up the good work! with less anger perhaps

Was my first animation, haven't had time to create another one and improve on that one. If you don't like what I put in the changelog and don't like the rom, then don't install it. Simple as that. I make the rom primarily for me and share it to be nice.
Btw im not angry.
Updated OP-Included Folder with all removed files.
Wasn't sure which thread to post in:
Running Der Teufel version and only issue I'm noticing is SDCard not being mounted after a reboot. Have had to go into Settings -> Storage -> select Mount SDCard each time. This also causes my default ringtone/notification to show as "Unknown" and has to be reset.
Anyone else having similar issues?
