[Q] ? about CM7 on emmc - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I Have been attempting to reinstall cm7 to internal on my NC. I have been following the instructions on nookdevs.com that I have used previously. They have always worked great for me, and I have been up and running in mere minutes. This time however I have had issues finding the version of win32diskimager that I need and the correct version of CWR for my 8gb Microsd. Anyone got any advice on where to find the correct files. The links on Nookdevs did not work for me.
Thanks in Advance!!!

Take a look at the internal section of the guide I have linked in my sig.

Hey Nburnes! I bought an 8GB class 6 SDcard from ebay, so itll be here in a couple days(yay)...sooo the hacking starts soon
Butttt....I was looking over ManualNooter and it seems kinda complicated for me. Im good with phone hacking and understand pretty much most of that (i have an HD2 running Motomans 4G mytouch ROM).
And i understand most of all the steps for MN, except the SD card step. its step "3.CWM Bootable from SD Card: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987735 - You should use CWM 3.0.2.8
•OR emmc CWM Recovery Installed"...i went to the link but im not sure what to do after i download my file(which would be the 8GB SD card file). Is there anyway you can help me with that? Thanksssss alot!

Once you have the xxx.tar.gz you need to expanded at two levels. First you are need to uncompress the file to get to the xxx.tar archive. Then you need to open the .tar archive to get to the image file, 8gb_clockwork-0.7.
If you are running UNIX this is a simple process likely to just required double clicking. If you are running Windows you need a 3rd party program like 7-zip.
Once you get the get to the img file you use a utility to burn the image to the SD card. I run windows and used WinImage.
Once I got the files on the uSD card I replaced the uImage and uRamdisk files as described in the instructions.

Ok i think I have most of that down now. I should be getting my SD card in a couple days and then can start hacking it. Are you using CM7 for your NC? That seems to be the best right now. If i have any trouble, ill be sure to ask for help. Thankssss

WinImage does not work for CM7 Size-Agnostic SD

(I can't post this to the correct thread because I am new)
Found this thread describing how WinImage did not work for the Size-Agnostic CM7 image:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096865
I can confirm this is true, WinImage did not work, but Win32diskimager worked fine. I'm using a 16GB Lexar Class 4 mSD. Thought verygreen might want to update the instructions.
Here is the thread I wanted to post to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
Thanks and I hope this helps some others.
Winimage worked for me
I used winimage a couple of days ago and follow a video on how to use it worked for me . I had iniatially tried Win32diskimager but couldnt find a youtube video to watch to know how to use it . I had to do my sd card twice though as I installed the cm7 and then went back and tried to install the gapps to no avail . I redid the card and installed the cm7 and gapps at the same time and it worked . Now I am trying to work out how to dual boot, I fluked it once into b and n stock with the card in . Love to know how you are suppose to do it though, or do I have to do the multiboot file reinstall ?
I used the instructions in the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
The only difference is I used Win32diskimager instead of WinImage. Other than that I did it exactly as in those instructions (which includes the multi-boot bootloader and installing gapps as a separate step).

Root 1.3?

Hi everyone. I'm kinda new. I've rooted devices in the past and jailbroken other non android devices. I've read the tutorials, they were either very vague or didn't work at at all.
I purchased a refurb NC from B&N. It came with 1.2 but auto updated to 1.3. I've tried burning an the 1gb clockwork image to my sdcard and the manual nooter zip file straight to the root of my sdcard and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? Can someone help guide me in the right direction?
Thanks
Try this link Re-Root 1.3 You should get help on this thread.
You will need to follow links from the above to yet other instructions on creating ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) SDHC cards.
One thing to remember is that most Rooted Nooks came via 1.2, so read the posts with this in the back of you mind. It may not be an issue, but I have not checked.
Also be aware that the majority of the threads relate to CM7 which has nothing to do with Rooting your B&N 1.3 Nook Color. These folks are completely replacing the Operating System with a different one. One or two threads about Kernels may apply equally to both B&N 1.3 and CM7.
I'm also using my ancient G1 phone as the sdcard reader via usb. Would that possibly be the problem?
Not sure, I am not highly technical in this area. However why not use your NookColor as the SD card reader and writer?
Also look at Supernooter on this thread It may well be superceeded, but that is where I started when I was on 1.2.
OR
Look at this thread, it may be more relevant.
Thank you so much, I did use the nook as the sd card reader and it worked like a charm. I never thought of that for some reason. But once again thanks!

[Q] CM9/ICS on SD Card

I have seen instructions on how to apply CM9/ICS to eMMC and to also set up a dual boot sd card that contains it.
I would prefer at this point to set up an sd card with the most recent and/or stable nightly CM9/ICS only to see what it is all about and what the state of development is.
Could someone provide me with that info, please?
FYI: I am running my original NC having updated my v 1.3 with 5.12.20 instead of going the 1.4.1 route. It pretty much works in terms of my usage and I got the added benefit of having HBO Go work! Still not willing to give up my ability to "read in store".
Thanks in advance for any/all help with this
All the info is here. You just have to read, read some more, and then just read some more.
It all gets so much easier if you do this. Plus you'll find the threads you want to keep an eye on for new info.

Use the size-agnostic procedure that discusses putting CM7 on an SD card.. just rename the zip file to be compatible for flash. It is in the Dev section

Having done numerous iterations of various CM and others both internally and on sd cards, I was able to do all of that because I do read this website rather thoroughly!
However, doing this specific task (as a standalone) just did not appear to come up.
I had assumed I could do it the same way I had done CM7 but was not certain due to apps and other issues at this stage.

Thanks...any suggestions for which version to try?
Just get the latest nightly on the samiam303 post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444943At this point there is nothing that is "stable". Make sure you use the large ics image or you'll need to expand boot. Finally I found I had to load the update and gaaps at the same time without a recovery boot in between to get the google calendar to sync. Runs real nice.
If I may suggest, try Racks triple boot of CM7 and CM9 from SD card -- see his thread
elsewhere on XDA -- I've been running it for several weeks, including latest update fro OC, and everything works fine. ICS is of course still "in process" but you might be surprised at how well it runs. And the CM7 is stable as a rock and swift, especially with the supercharger script installed. And you will still have your original B&N stock in emcc.
Thanks...I saw that and since I had already used CM7 off and on both internally and via an sdcard just didn't want to get into another dual boot scenario.
This time around, I just wanted a simple ICS steup on a dedicated sdcard that I would install when wanting to try it out and replace with my storage sdcard when operating normally with my rooted (5.12.20) 1.3.

[Q] htc hd2 space

Hello,
I have got a HTC HD2 and i have used htchd2android com website to make it an Android device.
The phone works great, only the space is very minimum, there are like 5 apps on it and now it don't even want to update facebook anymore (too low space)
I have used link2sd to place all the apps on the sd card but that isn't the solution for the problem.
i came across this page enfeuman com /2011/06/01/how-to-fix-abnormal-internal-storage-space-on-htc-hd2/ But will it help when i just install the new recovery partition or do i need to do more or purhaps do i need to install everythinh again?
Hope someone can give me an good explenation about how to fix it.
What partition size did you originally flash? If you flashed the correct partition size in the first place, then that guide won't help.
I have used 250 mb version just like that guide says on htchd2android com

Just follow guides on XDA. I've read a couple of guides from other websites before and almost all of them have flaws. Jayceooi's website is good though.
In that case, you're wasting 80MB of storage. Backup your ROM in CWM, flash a 170MB partition then restore your ROM. You may also want to back up in Titanium.
Try native SD Rom...fast like nand and no problem for space....or if using nand...reflash your partition and use app2sd script
