Hdpi mdpi? - HD2 General

What is htc hd2 mdpi or hdpi etc...? Im running android on it and alot of the themes have either mdpi or hdpi... Like CM7 Mixer theme thats on the market is only for hdpi

HD2 is HDPI. Only devices that have 320x480 resolution is mdpi.

Well...
(H)DPI is about pixel density (pixels per inch). HD2 has high density (217 I think) by default, but some cooks (ROM makers) may lower this number, so the apps will think that our phone is a tablet and e.g. icons will be smaller.
If DPI wasn't set on a fake number, you could take other device, let's say SGS (233), and the icons would be the same size (in centimetres, not pixels).

VISIONary temp root and LCD Changer

The capability of changing my pixel density using LCD Density Changer was one of the last few questions i had before i jumped shipbto the shift. I figured that maybe others would have this question too.
I was able to change from a 240 to a 180 with no issues if i use the preview button while on temp root from VISIONary. I'm sure the other sizes will work well too!

Why would you want to change the pixel density to less dense? Are you having a hard time seeing the text on the screen?

Its the other way around. By decreasing the pixel density I am increasing the amount of screen real estate.
Its like changing your monitor resolution from 800x600 to 1024x768. You make everything smaller so you can fit more on the screen. I tend to do this and then use adw.launcher to set my app drawer to 5 columns and have more then 4 application shortcuts across my desktop screens.
For my evo 160 was a sweet spot but on the shift its 180. Any smaller and you would struggle reading text or taping the correct space on the screen.
I hope you're not using Sense with LCD density changer. It's useless without being able to adjust icon rows and such.

Your exactly right. I am using adw.launcher dreaming of the day when I can put cm7 on and do the same thing with out the sense apps.

What screen density (dpi) are you using?

I'm stuck on 190, haven't gone lower since SD days on americanandroid. Anything higher just makes things seems big for the screen IMO
well i use 167 and i'm happy ....my phone looks bigger with 240 it looks like u have 2" screen
Mines set to 200.
I would go smaller but I can't be bothered editing my dock again lol.
i get use to ...when i first flashed typhoon rom ...i said what's that the android icon had the same size like my face any way ...it's question of taste
set to 210
stuck with the basic 240. i play lots of games and many just run with a small screen when when the density is too lower, unchecking compatibility mode doesnt always work either. I like it though, don't need to squint to see things lol
Mine is set to 240dpi
mines at 217 and looks great
I stay with 240. I seem to get along with it just fine.
Standard Hyperdroid of 167, works great, only a few apps don't work properly, but most of them do.
My HD2 is set to 231
167 is just too small for keyboard and others, its a huge 4.3" screen so why doing that??
my rom is "sense of eclipse" (sense 3.0), the smoothest, fastest, coolest ( ) and most stable sense rom (maybe the best rom i had... ).
im on 167. i use 6x8 widgets/shortcuts on the home screen (hyperdroid rom).
is there a way to get similar configuration on a sense-based rom?
200 set for now. i think i'll give 190 a try.
167 is doing just fine with me.

Good point....not sure what mine is....got standard Pyramid sense 3.0 ROM installed, so i presume it's 220 or 240?
Gonna have a lil mess about now and see what looks best.
Might bore everyone with a few screen shots at different density sizes...lol

I'm using 167 dpi in Americandroid.
I use this to change the dpi:

once again the rom you are using is NOT sense 3.0
it is sense 2.1 with the sense 3.0 rosie port and and other sense 3.0 stuff
from seo
if you dont believe me just ask Daekin
200 density is good enough for me.

2 much spare time i decided to stick to 220.
some pointless screens...lol........

Currently on 167, using NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V2.7_NAND_(Android-2.3.4)_update by Tytung...Switched from stock Launcher to GO Launcher Ex (6 columns 5 rows)...keyboards are a little on the small side but the voice to text recognition is on point...by the way i used the LCD Density app thats here in this forum.

[Q] decrease text or DPI in sense roms

I installed virtuous unity and I notice that in the phone application I can see the first 6 contacts over the virtual keyboard.
With standard sense for desire z (virtuous sense) I can only see my first 3-4 contacts.
This because virtuous unity is ported from a device with more resolution (I think) but the effect is great!
I hate the standard sense because I can't set the text size.
Large text is good for people that have vision problems, but I don't have, and I would like a rom with "less zoom" to see more objects in my screen.
I switch continuously from sense and cm7, I love cm7 and AOSP for the text size
PS: Spare parts have an options to resize the text, but don't work with all the sense applications. I hate the space waste of senseee!!! but I love sense services and beauty
Try LCD Density Changer from the market.

I don't need a dpi changer.. change dpi in sense roms don't works.
I would love a sense rom with the text dimension and proportions of sense 3.0 ported from other bigger screen terminal.
I think that in bigger screen terminale htc makes smaller proportions in sense..
So an htc HD2 sense rom ported to htc desire z would be great (I think)
Someone can confirm?

I never keep any icons or wigets on any of the home screens. I use miui plus zeam launcher on almost all my devices. One thing I am confused about is why the rom cook would need to know what dpi people like. I just edit the build.prop and the dpi changes. 160 dpi is too small icons for me and 240 dpi is too large icons I been playing with the build.prop and changed it to 190 dpi which seems to be a good balance. With this streak is the first time I have saw different roms for different dpi.

In most Roms, both the HDPI and MDPI formats are combined. With this one, it was split up for some reason. I would love to have both combined again to make it easier for changes.

This is only true for dell devices I think, most other manus only have the xDPI assets that specific device uses. At least the rom dumps of the N1/NS are like that.
I def like how dell included mdpi and hdpi though, as it means switching levels still gives you better icons then having them being streched/shrunk to work
CM7 160 DPI please 240 DPI is too much...
I find 200 a good compromise

actually, i like 190 most! fit & suit for me & my thumb
but, gplay doesn't support it
between 160 / 240, i will take 160 since 240 is spacekiller

would be better for this ..........
Everyone that isnt using 120/160/240/320 needs to keep in mind that a non-standard dpi will break the market. It's part of their policy now that "list what dpis you support" instead of the older "list what dont work".
You pretty much wont be able to use the market (or at least a lot of stuff will be missing/broken on market) on a non-standard dpi. You can switch back to a standard one and use the market and switch back of so inclined though.
