Hey guys I currently have a black GSII and a white GSII on hand right now. I was planning to return my black one for a full refund to Amazon (because I wanted a white one), but now I am baffled. So as you guys can see in my pictures I have a black GSII on stock KI4 firmware and a white one on stock KI4 firmware. They are both on lowest brightness, however the white one has a much more washed out display and looks significantly dimmer than the black one when they are both on lowest brightness. The screen on the white one seems to have a grainy texture as well. FYI: both screens are set to NORMAL display modes (not dynamic or movie). In addition when I look at pictures with a lot of black in the background in pitch-black I can see gray spotches over my screen. I am almost positive that this screen is faulty (on the white one of course). Can anyone confirm that the White one does indeed have a faulty screen? Thanks

Oh yea - don't mind the charging on the black phone - it doesn't make a difference whether it's charging or not because it plenty of juice left anyways. There are no screen differences when it's charging and when it's not.
Could it be because the black one is charging ...

It makes no difference dude.
I just posted exactly the same problem!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313318
It not diffirence between black or white , it also happen to black and black, white and white . Samsung galaxy s2 is the best phone i'v ever used but it LCD panel pretty not stable . Even the phone just arrive in this month or the phone arrive in June are all the same , sometime i think i can never find 2 galaxy s2 phone that match in LCD panel.
I have the exact same issue with our other SGS2 that had its screen replaced. The one is way too dark/dim.

No difference for my case. It was dark on stock ROM (though I could swear it was okay when the store staff turned on the phone to let me check ). Even after I flashed it to the same ROM and kernel as mine, problem still persists. For the time being, I have hacked into framework-res.apk to crank up the brightness at every level. This suffice for now.
---------- Post added at 12:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:20 PM ----------
For those interested, you can follow the instruction here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1235212&highlight=brightness to crank up the brightness of your screen. I am currently using
80, 120, 180, 230, 255
As a comparison, I have to crank down the brightness of my black SGS2 to
5, 40, 80, 140, 220 and it is still brighter than the cranked-up white one!
My white one is fine and identical to the black one I used to own. I did notice a difference in blacks and greys.

I just picked up my nexus this morning and just noticed that my screen has a 1 pixel line that runs down the left side of the screen. It is very noticeable on white pages. I stopped by my bestbuy and checked out the demo and it has the same line... anyone else notice this?
Maybe you should post a pic?

i opened google homepage for white background and do not see this line
I just used the Screen Test app and did not see any lines.
Is it a greenish looking line when you view white or bright grey backgrounds when the brightness is low? My Vibrant has this, and I'm quite sure it's a consequence of the AMOLED RGBG pixel arrangement... just have to live with it.
I just don't see any green lines at all. Perhaps if you guys can get a screenshot, others will have a better idea of what you're talking about.
I'll try to take a pic when I get home, but just checked out another bestbiy and looks light their demo has the same green line... the reps noticed it too so I know it's not just me .
Ok here is a pic that I just took.. If you look on the left edge of the screen you will see a green 1 pixel line..

Yes, same thing on my Vibrant and any other 4" SAMOLED panel by Samsung, it's normal. Go to wikipedia and lookup pentile matrix display and look at the subpixel matrix arrangement of the Nexus 1 picture (RGBG) and you'll know why it's there.
(When the red, green and blue pixels are lit, the human eye perceives it as white, but at the edge, not a full RGBG pixel is there to make it look white, so it looks green to us since it's probably missing a red or a blue, and the human eye is more sensitive to seeing green)
thats normal. All galaxy s phones have this problem.

lol yes, I suggest if you didn't notice it before, don't go looking for it.
Ok when I first bout my phone about 6 months ago or less...my screen was very bright. Now I am starting to notice vertical dark lines across my screen, and the screen is noticiby allot less brighter than before...my 2nd gen itouch has a brighter screen that will blind u compared to my phone. Ive been running on overstock kernel eversince it came out so it is not the kernel.. I think my screens pixels r dieng also the dark lines r not noticable unless u got one big bright plain background but this is bad quality control

With the amount of galaxy s phones produced I think this has been darn good quality control. And i bet your itouch doesnt produce the great blacks that our vibrants have. If you have only had it for 6 months then you still have 6 months warranty left so send it in and get it fixed.

Dont buy lcd
..super amoled so spd
Sorry but as fantastic as Super Amoled looks initially, it quickly fizzles out, and is prone to burn in.
check this thread out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799750
SuperAMOLED doesn't have burn-in, but rather serious image retention.. so if you leave a screen on it will leave a retained image but you can get rid of it by playing back lots of video or full screen games.
I haven't had any problems with my Super AMOLED display or my Vibrant in general besides the GPS antenna thing which in my account is a flaw of design and not poor quality control.
I think black looks cleaner as white is not having 100% white frame like X10 used to have but looks great on the back side ;-)

Honestly one of the nicest phones ever designed. White for the girls, and black for the guys. Those are probably the targets too.
I'll buy in black.
Every phone I get is usually in black.
Sent from my LT18i using xda premium
I like how the display in black phones just melt in with the rest of the phone in a way that i dint find the white ones doing. I think the screen seems smaler when u have a white phone, and I like big screens
Usually black makes slim.
If it's matte black then I'll choose black but if it's glossy black then I'll choose white over it any day.
i was thinking of making this thread as well, im confused about which color i want to get myself too
You know what they say: Once you go black, you never go back.
Maybe this should be transferred to the Xperia S forum now?
In any case, unlike most here I prefer the white one from the front as I like the contrast. But, I'm afraid there's too much white for my taste on the back.
As far as the black one goes, I don't think the bottom plastic part will blend nicely with the deep glossy black bezel surrounding the screen, as the plastic will just look a little "less black" and not very integrated if you know what I mean.
black is the best colour. Whie does look nice but you will get bored of it very easily and no way of changing it. I used to have x10 with both white and black housing but after 2 cdays with white i always ended up returning to black.
Black. I think white is more.. girlish. No offense
Black colour is better because, if it gets dirty/scratched, it will be harder to notice it. Especially when talking about those shiny covers.
I pre-ordered the white one, I think it looks better than the black version.

Black
I have Arc S in white, but next one will be black
So here is the basic situation:
My friend and me bought a same i9000 from the same company at almost the same time. It's Telenor-Hungary.
We have been using it for over a year and I discovered an issue with the screens just yesterday.
I'll provide some screenshots:

as you see the only difference in the two screenshots is that I use 182 dpi and he uses 240.
But when we look at the phones with our eyes its not the same.
Mine , the lover dpi one is faded and greenish its blue is not really pure.
we tried to take photos of the difference:
so you can see the left one is more greenish and it's like missing some light blue or something i cant define. The best way to say it his phone has deeper colors.
also we discovered another difference
this is the 240 dpi (right one) with the better colors
and thiis is mine the sh*t greenish colored
you can notice the sim tray and the micro sd tray is different colored.
any idea why my screen is different than his?
By the way we use the same rom/kernel : teamhacksung b14 and devils latest with led2
thank you please just take a loook
Oled screens get worn out after time, especially the blue color is going to wear out fast. It could be that one of you two uses his phone more intense than the other...

tapatalked from GalaxyS
Thats true mate!
I use 20 times more than him
This has nothing to do with usage.
It's just a difference in ur hardware. many users here on xda have this problem including me.
My girlfriends phone has so nice and deep colours but my phone just looks yellowish and wasted.
I installed chainfire3D and use nightmode to adjust colours manually which brought a really nice result and I also use voodoo color for adjusting gamma values.
This brought me a whole new display and now it looks like this of my gf. Feel free and try it.
and to your sim tray and sd card problem^^
Your friend has the protection stickers/foils still on and u don't - that's it!
greetz
Thats the same colour the Sim Tray. Thats plastic...

Yes, you can think that's the amoled technology that gives a strange tint until you see different devices.
Then you will notice some screens are quite OK, some are yellow and some are blue (and right out of the box).
I don't know if Samsung had several screen batches (they do that on PC monitors and TV without warning) or if the amoled panel is just not regular at the end of its production process.
Supercurio tried to investigate on some Galaxy S II models, asked people to give their screen identification serial and which problem/tint they noticed. I don't know if he came on a conclusion.
Anyway, for now you have this gamma adjustment tool included in Team hacksung ICS, you'll also have a new "Voodoo screen tuning app" with profiles and advanced options soon (Supercurio announced he will release it after he has sorted out some payment/market issues).
How can u tell me then, why i can see a bright ribbon on white screen where my status bar normally is? 5his is deffinitely a wear symptom...

Yeah, there's no denying screens get old too. I was just explaining this tint problem in particular.
So, one of the big reasons that I waited for the S3 instead of upgrading to the Galaxy Note, was because of widespread reports of "crushed blacks" on the Note's display (see this thread).
Crushed blacks is where instead of seeing an even progression in brightness from absolute inky black to the next darkest series of grays, you'll see black and then a stark jump in brightness to the next darkest gray. This defect makes watching movies and other media with lots of dark scenes a problem because it's hard to ignore the high contrasty / blotchy areas.
I'd appreciate it if someone could verify that this is a non-issue on the S3 by using the test image I've attached below. Download it, and view it fullscreen in a dark room. An actual photo of your screen would be nice too. TIA.
EDIT: Thanks all! Glad this isn't a problem on the S3 (and hopefully it won't be on the Galaxy Note 2 either).

I come from a Galaxy Note, too. The problem doesn't exist on the S3.
First thing I did when I got my S3 was that I did the test like on the Note (opened the image in QuickPic with the setting "Force true color decoding on") and went into a pitch dark room. Breathed a sigh of relief.
Here is a good example of what the problem with the Note looked like

I'm happy to report that I had no issue on my screen. Looked great and no crushing at all. I also went ahead and did a dead pixel check and turned out to be 100% :good:
