Hey Guys. Not necessary looking for a fix but misery loves company so I figured I'd ask if anyone is having a similar issue:
When sending email through Gmail IMAP email messages receive and sync, but do not send (yielding a popup that states "make sure your connection to the server is correct...etc")
So anyone feel my pain on this?
same issue here
I am on DCD 3.1.2 w/radio 3.39.10 and I have the same issue.
Going to go back to pop3 for now and see if fixes this issue for me.
I'm running off of completely stock stuff right now ( i think it's 3.53). Nothing special or cooked.
Should be working, but it's not. :-/
I'm also having this issue
this happens intermittently for me - very intermittently. I have found that ending my google mail account that's running in the background and going into that mail account via the mail application again corrects the issue. I use HTC Task Manager to close out apps in the background... a soft reset would do the same thing.
This is a Gmail (imap)/Windows Mobile issue. Not sure what the problem is, but it definitely sucks.
I would recommend sticking with Gmail POP until Google gets their WinMo/imap act together.
I'm running Gmail 2.3, it came with the Evo I bought this week.
Anyone else seeing the problem of Gmail getting stuck on ONE email?
For instance, I can see a list of emails, but whichever email I try to select, it will always show only one particular email. And pressing the left right navigation arrows at the bottom of the email still shows the same email.
Gmail been flakey on all phones this week. Thought google fixed that.
8pen from my supersonic on the xda app.
I don't get this issue, but many times after clearing my inbox in the app it still looks like I have new emails when I don't. The number of new emails doesn't go back to zero till I login via gmail.com or wait for a new email to come in.
Gmail has always been like this for me though.
Last year I learned how to include a push feature Google offers on the iPhone, and I set it up there, yes the push worked. Until then I got the Evo in June and used Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync instead of the gmail app.
If you want a true sync, then u can get it set up in MS Exchange by entering your username and password, then click on manual setup, from there, when u see the server box which says gmail.com, you will need to change that to m.Google.com then click next, choose which u want synced then ur good to go.
P.S. screw the gmail app, I prefer the HTC mail app though, has user friendly UI and the ability to multi select files to be movedto another folder or deleted...I tried moving files on gmail and don't see that feature implemented on the gmail app, unless I missed it.
I deleted the data for GMail within Settings Applications and everything was okay again after the resync.
Man.... I have never had any issues you guys write on here, I must be extremely lucky *knocks on wood*
No issues here

I was having issues with the sync yesterday as well. Clearing the data like you said fixed it. Thank you!
This doesn't help I'm just stating my personal experience:
I have never had issues with Gmail app other than trying to save attachments as posted. Other than that it has always been solid. If Google has server issues it wont matter what app you use.
I have an N7 3g. I'm using MoDaCa's JR-4. Outgoing emails continually get stuck in the outbox and don't go out. I think it has something to do with N7. I have never had this problem with other android cell phones, PC, etc.
Is there a solution?
Thanks
I have had this problems on phones before, but not yet on the N7 *knocks on wood.
First I would check your sync settings to make sure all is appropriate.
The way I was able to remedy the situation was to either uninstall gmail, and reinstall, or just uninstall the latest update. I haven't had that fail me yet. You could also try clearing data, cache, and force stop the app from settings first.
(may require reboot after)
Good luck!
i had this issue in Gmail today on the N7 running a CM 10.1 nightly. i used to see this a lot as well on Gingerbread, and uninstalling the app/clearing data in the app does work but makes you lose the draft you had written(which sucks if it was a long one!). i used to solve it by clicking reply and creating a dummy message in the same thread, saving that message as a draft, then going into my drafts folder and the message that got stuck would have an option to send... or something like that, and that worked. however, i couldn't seem to get it to work today, on Gmail 4.1.2 fortunately my stuck message today was small, so i just cleared data in the app and rewrote it, and it did send then.
You could also just highlight the whole draft and copy, then paste when done. It should be copied to your clip board and not the gmail app. I suppose it is always safer to save it somewhere before deleting, though I would think if you were going to do that, you would want to save the copy in a different app like ever note.

I'll try that here on Jelly Bean next time, but that actually wasn't possible before. When the message got stuck sending, it was in a limbo state where the text of the message wasn't accessible to be copied! I definitely tried that because i lost some pretty long drafts!

I have rolled back gmail to the earlier version several times but it keeps updating behind my back and emails become stuck in the outbox again.

I have rolled back gmail to the earlier version several times but it keeps updating behind my back and emails become stuck in the outbox again. Also, although I'm currently using JR-4, I have CM-10, PA, and stock rooted ROMS nandroided. I could restore any of them and test, but I'm pretty certain it's ubiquitous. It's either the gmail app or android 4.21.
Also, I have a Galaxy Note 2. 2 versions of gmail are installed: 1.0 and 4.21, and emails don't get stuck. N7 only has has 4.21 installed. Why doesn't N7 also have 1.0 installed?
Also, I just cleared cache and data and the email is resynching. I'm certain that the problem will return. I love the N7, but this is really annoying.

Is there a particular version of Gmail that works better? If so, have you gone into your market settings and disabled automatic updating? I've been running the 4.1.2 version for a long time now, and it never updates to 4.2. I also disabled update notifications so it doesn't bug me at all.
But yeah, it's an annoying issue. Sometimes i turn to K9 Mail, as it works great for Gmail accounts. Plus i love the dark theme option. In the end i like the way native Gmail synchs tho.

Thanks for your help. How can I downgrade from 4.2.1 to 4.1.2? I think that will work until Google addresses this issue. The Disable link inside "App Info" used to show this downgrade capability. However, that text was probably there when I was using a different Rom. I have MoDaCa JR-4 running now and I think I want to keep it.
I think if you flashed a ROM that came with 4.2, you won't have the option to uninstall updates. In any case, i posted 4.1.2 in the 3rd to last post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005006. You can just uninstall 4.2 and install 4.1.2 if you wish. I will warn you tho, I did have the stuck sending issue yesterday, but I think that was the first time.

Oh sorry, if it is a /system app in the ROM, then you'll need to use Titanium Backup or a file explorer app. The free version of Titanium will do the job.

I just use file explorer to delete it from /system/app, then install the 4.1.2 apk and turn off automatic updating in Play Store?

Yep, you might even want to disable automatic updating first, haha. And If I remember correctly, the apk installs just by tapping install, no need to paste it into /sysyem/app, I don't think...

Bad news 4.1.2 emails are now stuck in outbox.
This happens because Google wants to take over your e-mail service; in other words you must be using your Android or smartphone's e-mail app instead of Google's GMAIL App. There are two fixes to this problem, first is to download Goggle's GMAIL App and use that for email communication; and second is to ask google to allow 'less secure' apps i.e. non-google to access your e-mails (i know!) Here are the steps for the second option:
Allowing less secure apps to access your account
Google may block sign-in attempts from some apps or devices that do not use modern security standards. Since these apps and devices are easier to break into, blocking them helps keep your account safe.
Some examples of apps that do not support the latest security standards include:
The Mail app on your iPhone or iPad with iOS 6 or below
The Mail app on your Windows phone preceding the 8.1 release
Some Desktop mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird
Change account access for less secure apps
To help keep Google Apps users' accounts secure, we may block less secure apps from accessing Google Apps accounts. As a Google Apps user, you will see a "Password incorrect" error when trying to sign in. If this is the case, you have two options:
Option 1: Upgrade to a more secure app that uses the most up to date security measures. All Google products, like Gmail, use the latest security measures.
Option 2: Change your settings to allow less secure apps to access your account. We don't recommend this option because it might make it easier for someone to break into your account. If you want to allow access anyway, follow these steps:
Go to the "Less secure apps" section in My Account.
Next to "Access for less secure apps," select Turn on. (Note to Google Apps users: This setting is hidden if your administrator has locked less secure app account access.)
If you still can't sign in to your account, the "password incorrect" error might be caused by a different reason.
Hi guys,
i've updated to KitKat from 4.3 on my Nexus and now i am not receiving new email sound notifications unless i open the app and mark all messages as read. This is my work account (exchange) and the issue is really annoying because my daily email flow is about 100 messages. Most require my attention right away and i have to turn the phone on and off every few minutes to see if new message is there.
i've tried re-adding the account, changed notification sound, updated to 4.4.1 and then to 4.4.2 but the issue is still there.
any suggestions?
device is complete stock.

I'm having the same issue here. Did not notice the issue on 4.4 or 4.4.1 but as soon as I updated to stock 4.4.2 the issue showed up. Sometimes the unread email will be there if I open the app but no notification sound or icon. I'm also getting delayed push emails randomly. It seems to work fine for an hour or two then no emails will show up unless I manually pull and I'll get a flood and e-mails will come in normally for a while.

i am still getting emails pushed, but no notification sounds...
any ideas how to fix this???
I tried wiping my device and flashing the factory image, issues remain.
Something I have noticed is that the second I open the Email application, the messages show up in the list .. of course no notifications.. Another behavior is that when the sync is configured with "Push" it is supposed to be realtime, and before KitKat, it was that way.. I'd get an alert on my phone the next second I received an email.. However, that also seems to be screwed up as well. I was hoping this 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 would resolve the issue but it didn't.
So I contacted google about this yesterday and the first few emails went nowhere. Then they transferred me to a 'specialist', here is their response:
Hello Brian,
Thank you for your response. Not being able to sync your emails through exchange is frustrating. I would be more than happy to assist you in syncing with the Exchange server. Unfortunately, at this time in order to sync with the Exchange server you need to access a third party app through 'Google Play'. In the future there may be updates to the Android OS that may allow for syncing with the Exchange server. Currently, Kitkat is unable to facilitate syncing with the Exchange server.
If you have any further questions, concerns or downloading a third party app does not resolve the issue please feel free to reply to this email or contact us at support.google.com.
Best Regards,
Valerie

WOW!
Will they pay for that third party application for us???
I remember how everybody was bashing Apple when their update broke exchange sync. But they fixed it quite fast.
Never thought i will see that approach from Google...
Very sad
anybody was able to fix the issue?
anyone?
still have this annoying issue!

Same here.. I really need a fix for this, I keep missing important messages
I think Google tweaked the email client to turn off notifications unless you open the app. If you get the first email, it will make a sound. If you don't open the app and check it, it will stop notifying you of further emails. I'm really not sure what the solution will be to this issue..
This is on my Nexus 5, but I have the same email client that the N4 does.
you can change that in settings :

That's a Gmail setting, we're referring to the native email app that handles Exchange accounts
For me not
It always works for me
try using the application of your email provider(f.e. if you have a microsoft account use outlook.com app). that is what i do and i don't have any problem anymore. if you like to have all your different accounts in one application i would suggest to find another application. droid mail and k9 mail are quite good as far as i know

It makes an audible beep every time you get a new email in the "Email" app even if you don't open the app every time? Are you on 4.4.2?

I use it for my Exchange account for work email, there's no other email provider client. I'll see if I can get droid mail or K9, but they're relatively expensive options for just this 1 issue.
I've been struggling for past month or so with gmail not receiving notifications at all unless I manually go into the app and refresh. I've checked notifications settings and battery optimizations but didn't have any success. Only solution I could find was to uninstall the update and use gmail version that came with the phone. Has anyone faced this kind of issue and found a permanent solution?
Maybe the new update has a bug that will hopefully be fixed in the next update? Maybe try inbox by Gmail, I find it better than regular Gmail. Anyways have you checked to see if you have auto sync enabled?
The Gmail push notification thing really started with Android N. If you Google it people across all phones are having the issue. I have emails show up late or I have to manually refresh. I installed inbox by Google a while back as the above poster stated. It has helped but still not where I need to be on notifications. Lately I have been having issues with text messages not coming through. I will be factory resetting tonight.

Yeah I found tons of posts but couldn't find any solution so I thought I'd post it here. Inbox also has issues for me. I don't think I had issues with txt but good luck.
